Lots of unrealated Content
There are only about 20 pages in this book that have to do with Speed Reading. Most of the book is success stories and how to improve your study habits which would be fine if the book was titled "Improve Your Study Habits and Get a Brief Introduction to Speed Reading" but it's not.

More Detail Please
The presentation here is well organized and easy to follow but there is a lack of detail and a failure to address key points. For instance, how long should one drill on techniques presented to improve "linear reading" before moving on to "layering"? The title implies a seven day structured course. Yes, exercises are suggested and methods to improve reading speed are clearly explained, however, there is no clearly defined seven day syllabus. I am intrigued by the teasing suggestions that, fully applied, one may experience a paranormal "visualizing" when reading. Unfortunately, I have not been able to successfully progress past step one. The tape is primarily geared to secondary or college students and some helpful study tips are presented which I would like to have gleaned when I was in those learning years. Because the prospect of reading beyond my current, pitifully slow, level is so enticing, I have not given up on the idea that this process may work. However, if you are (as I am) curious about the prospect of reading at a rapid pace with high comprehension, I suggest seeking out a speed reading course that goes into more detail and presents a more formalized plan for achieving proficiency.

Give it a chance...
While the narrative started out with a murder, it continued at a slow pace. This book isn't a cause for much nail-biting and I wasn't in any hurry to read it but I'm glad I did. The story gets better as you delve into it. Although, the author's style of writing isn't the best and at times, was difficult to follow, she did a good job at tying the scenes and situations together without leaving a "Yah, right-that's impossible!"-feeling to her work. I would like to check out other books written by her. It may surprise you to learn who the real killer is. It didn't surprise me though but I only half-guessed at his/her motive(s). Give it a chance before giving up on it. Thank you, Evelyn.

Flower Reviews...
Matt Bolt is a retired (not by choice) homicide detective. Things are bad enough with his son Austin thrust upon him...but then Ginny comes around. Virginia Carney is running from the past. And Matt is there to help her through it.

This book was...okay. Not the best, not the worst. I am only 12- turning 13 in less than a month. Despite the sex scenes, I still found this a fairly good book. The worst thing is how it was rushed. It is obvious that Matt and Ginny are in love when they first meet. Maybe it's that 'love at first sight' thing, but it was TOO fast.

Still, 3 stars for this book. ^_^

Goes to School (My Little Friend)

Just okay.
This book is nice for children who are beginning school for the first time and are not sure what to expect. The story tells how a typical first day of school might go. It is also nice that the other children in school are portrayed as friendly and helpful. The story itself is pretty unimaginative. Page by page, the boy learns about what he will find at school. Then, towards the end of the book, he find he has lost his "friend" and the kids help him search for it (thus the "helpful" portrayal I referred to earlier.) The search is short and ends abruptly with no real message. Overall, the story was just okay.

INDULGENT BUT NOT POIGNANT
INDULGENCE is one seductive book that enchants and could have the potential to be so much more if not for the lack of nuanced emotions in the stories.

The Masquerade Cruise story by Connie Bennett is one that strictly belongs to overdosed fantasies about an actor on a cruise finding unexpected sincerity and love in a masquerade. Thea Devine's story creates blazing sensuality with the hero, Nick of a story about a simple love-triangle and admitting desire before a wedding. Olivia Rupprecht dishes a story of a romance writer falling in love with her editor who firmly believes in her sensual stories to sparkle and incite. Evelyn Roger falters in the department of sensuality with this one, a forgettable tale of a woman learning love at first sight.

INDULGENCE is a fleeting read and one that is made up of sensual pleasures and fluffy dreams. The sex and romanticized elements are as indulgent - and as empty in emotion-stirring. It engages but is not as poignant since characterization is vague. A pity - for this book has more than the potential to dish only castles in the air.

An informative bio of the world's oldest living aviatrix
Bobbi Trout, is alive and well, and perhaps one of the most overlooked aviatrixes. Bobbie set several world records and comming up on January 2nd, 1999, is the 70th anneversary of her world endurance record for women; twelve hours and eleven minutes. Bobbi is also the only survivor of the original Powder Puff Derby.

This book, full of Bobbi's magazine and newspapper clippings, tells the story of this gifted and healthy lady's life as a pioneer in aviation. A must for all aviation buffs.

The Legacy
Published in Audio Cassette by Chivers Audio Books (May, 1998)
Authors: Evelyn Anthony and Bill Wallis
Amazon base price: $69.95
Average review score:

Not her best
If you're a fan of Evelyn Anthony's many thrillers, you may be disappointed with THE LEGACY. The storyline is flat, although Ms. Anthony is very good at developing her characters. Missing is action and suspense which were hallmarks of previous books, especially the Davina Graham espionage series. This book concerns an estate, inherited by the second wife for her daughter. Her stepsons seek to contest this by employing unsavory methods. Ms. Anthony is at her best at characterisations. You do feel strongly one way or the other about the characters. In LEGACY, one character remains unknown until the end. Nazism is again a theme as it has been in other books. If you're a true fan of Evelyn Anthony's, you might come away with a feeling of missing something.

A Youth at War
As a fan of Confederate General Daniel Harvey Hill I was very happy to discover this slim little volume by his aide, Major James Ratchford. In addition to staff duty with D.H.Hill, Ratchford served as adjutant to John Bell Hood and Stephen Lee and witnessed over thirty engagements from Bethel to Bentonville including the disastrous Franklin-Nashville battles. This little book lets the reader see the war (and a number of its senior participants) through the eyes of a young man who may have preferred cordial young ladies and fine fishing to the battlefield. See also Hal Bridges' bio of D.H.Hill - LEE'S MAVERICK GENERAL.

Miss Melville Returns

More farce than mystery
Miss Melville does indeed return, and is as witty and sincere as she was in the original. Unfortunately, her supporting cast doesn't live up to her high standards. Jill, her agent, is just not credible enough for her role in Miss Melville's life, and Alex has lost a lot of his charm. Other characters introduced in the original have not been fleshed out to the extent that made "Miss Melville Regrets" a virtuoso perfomance. The story holds together despite these failings. The plot, especially as regards deceased artist extraordinaire Darius Moffet, is undeniably a farce, yet plausible in the New York art scene Smith depicts. Overall a good story, despite the weakness of the characterizations.
