Though brief, was very informative and usable, it works
Though only 95 pages, the information included menus, recipes, and count guidelines that were easily utilized and actually brought results. After reading, I understood how important it is to control carbohydrates in my diet. I acquired this book back in 1965 and still have and use it to keep the diabetes in my family at bay. If using this book as a guide, you can lose weight and feel better with more enegy.

A tribute for independent women
When her twin brother runs through the family fortune, a young woman travel to London masquarading as a man to win back the money before her brother's creditor forces her into marriage. In London, she meets the honorable Major Wrotham who eventually penetrates her disguise and instead of despising her charade, becomes her biggest champion.

This book is so marvelous, because never once, does the heroine fade into a creature that must be saved by the hero. Instead, the hero, is just that, for the respect that he lends Lady Alex and the sensitivity he shows in helping her to be even stronger and more independent.

All of Evelyn Richardson's books are about strong independent women and the men that are secure enough with themselves to offer respect and support to the women they love. This is my favorite book by this author. A must read.

Cultural Archeology At Its Best
Forty-one years ago, V.S. Pritchett went looking for what makes London itself. He wrote this before McDonald's arrived, just before the Beatles and 007 put it on the world's pop map, just as cranes were setting out the beams for glass and steel skyscrapers. Much has happened in the interim, but what Pritchett found explains not only its past but its future. He makes neat work of reconciling the many ironies in a place that reinvents itself every so often without much of a plan, but which also hangs onto traditions, ways of being and a passion for order. This is a tour of neighborhoods, but also of centuries and the historical events and personages that have contributed to the city's enduring character. It moves seamlessly between the concrete image and the abstract idea. Pritchett's prose is crystalline, his insights spooky at times (he describes those new skyscrapers as having a "smashable impermanence" to them). The photographs by Evelyn Hofer are haunting. There will always be a London. This should be required reading for visitors to that city.

Longman Crossword Key - invaluable
This is an excellent book for assisting in solving all types of crosswords. It is a must have. I have an old, rather sad looking copy of this (due to lots & lots of use!). I am looking for a hardcopy which I am hoping will last better (or a better condition soft copy).

I do not know why they have discontinued this publication - I am sure it is/was well used.

Although Nouwen was Roman Catholic, his writings provide "soul food" for anyone looking for something more from day to day life. I would recommend this lovely little book to all.

One of the most helpful books I have ever read
After listening to the warm and enlightening tape by Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estes, "Warming the Stone Child" I realized that I needed to learn to mother myself. Dr. Estes said that even if one is 'unmothered' or not mothered well they can indeed learn to mother themselves and this would nurture and grow the internal mother within which would give them strength and inner security and help mend the gnawing hunger within for love which is often filled by addictive behaviors. So my next question was how do I learn to mother myself when I didn't have a good role model? This book is helping me to learn more about mothering and nurturing myself. Reading this book felt good deep inside and I could feel so many parts of myself being nourished by the authors words and grow stronger. I highly recommend this book to anyone who didn't have adequate mothering. It is also helping me learn to be a better mother to my own son.

I also recommend the tapes and books by Dr. Estes and the books of Victoria Secunda and Motherless Daughters.
