An impressively comprehensive collection
The Drawings Of Stefano Da Verona And His Circle And The Origins Of Collection In Italy: A Catalogue Raisonne by Early Renaissance Studies expert Evelyn Karet (with the collaborative and scholarly assistance of expert archivists and translators of the 15th-Century Italian texts found upon the drawings) is an impressively comprehensive collection of the work of the painter and draughtsman Stefano da Verona (1375-1438). An impressively extensive and informative text about the artist and his work accompanies the many illustrations of da Verona's quite moving black-and-white sketches. Fully annotated, (and including a group of rejected works), The Drawings Of Stefano Da Verona And His Circle is a very well-written and ardently recommended addition to any comprehensive European Art History collection in general, and Renaissance Era Italian Artwork reference reading lists in particular.

Dreidelcat is Dreidelrific!
This astoundingly charming - yet strange - keepsake book retells the Hanukah tale with the cats as the Jews & the dogs as the Greco-Syrians. Brilliantly capturing the spirit of the tale in both text and illustrations, Dreidelcat is a book I would highly recommend for children of all ages, at any time of the year. Adults would also like its off-kilter take on Hanukah as well. Be sure to check out the wonderful drawings of the cat with its whiskers cut off, the dogs riding their "army of armadillos," and the infamous cat sacrifice scene in the temple. Brilliantly conceived! Destined to become a classic!

Enhanced at the end by a page of facts about bald eagles
Ably written for young readers by Evelyn Minshull and illustrated by the superb artwork of Andrea Gabriel, Eaglet's World is the powerful story of a bald eaglet, hatched from an egg, who must grow up and accept the challenge of leaving the comfort and safety of his nest. An informative, engaging story, enhanced at the end by a page of facts about bald eagles to educate young readers, Eaglet's World is an ideal and welcome addition to family, school, and community library picture book collections.

Truly a prize winning book!
This biography of the English saint and martyr Edmund Campion won the Hawthornden Prize in 1936, and I read it because of that. It is very well-written , tho it lacks a bibliography and footnotes. Campion was executed Dec. 1, 1581, after being sentenced to "be hanged and let down alive, and your privy parts cut off, and your entrails taken out and burnt in your sight, then your head to be cut off and your body divided into four parts." It surely makes one grateful for the 8th Amendment against cruel and unusual punishmnet. This is a fast read and eminently worth reading.

Inspirational and entertaining conclusion to trilogy
As the final and easily the best volume in Waugh's Sword of Honor Trilogy, this book manages to stay light and amusing while dealing with the greatest taboo subject of twentieth century literature: man's relationship with God. Waugh handles the weighty topic with the same dexterity with which he treats all of his subjects, never bogging down and keeping the reader laughing. The story also provides interesting historical material on both WWII and the disappearance of the English aristocracy. I would recommend reading Men at Arms and Officers & Gentlemen, the first two volumes of the trilogy, to be able to follow the story and the significance of the events.

Getting the feel of the Gilded Age
I tracked down this book and read it, because after seeing Ragtime (musical) I realized I didn't know about Evelyn Nesbit and the "murder of the century." I'm so glad my curiosity led me to this particular book. It tells the story of the three main characters in the famous murder, but also tells the story of the time they lived in. Reading the book gave me a sense of knowing much more clearly a time in our American history. One gets a stong awareness of the free-wheeling expansiveness and frantic growth in New York City at the turn of the Century. It was fun and interesting to encounter three such unique personalities, and see how being placed in that particular historical moment affected their life pathways. Whatever his personal pathology, Stanford White, was an astoundingly energetic, creative, and productive person. And it is amazing how having $40 million enabled wife abuser and murderer Harry Thaw, who seems to have been "crazy as a BetsyBug", to run loose and live as he pleased.

The best biography I have read of Waugh. In fact, one of the best biographies I have ever read. The depth of research is most impressive. The style of writing is very agreeable.

Visually elegant with fascinating text.
I was delighted to discover this lush volume on the work of the canadian artist F.S. Coburn.
The quality of the photographic reproductions of his paintings is superb, and the text is both entertaining and informative.
The author has managed to capture not only Coburn's uniqueness, but also his diversity.
This elegant coffee-table book is a must buy for those who enjoy art and a good read.
