interesting , but.....
It is very interesting to read this kind of book. But I prefer "Ethnographic Studies of Homosexuality" and "Geography of Perversion". Especially the latter is more comprehensive survey on this topic. Nevertheless I recommend the book for those who have interest in the matter.

Nazi Hideaway
This Kamp was a punishment Kamp for Auswischtz.(!) Prisoners were trained there from Auswischtz, true story: Like unit 731 and Belsen, operations without aenesthetic were performed.Drunken gaurds bashed prisoners brains out and pushed them off the cliffs edge at the Quarry. Many other means of murder were practised here,it was something else.
The author does a good job documenting the horror apart from sharing an absurd snobbery that survived in some prisoners, they had a terror of their red triangles fading and being mistaken for pink. She's a bigot, but this should be a school textbook in AUS and is recommended.(no stars though)

Great reading
I was hooked from the very first sentence. A beautifully written, poignant story of a desperate but pure love.

Gourmet Banquet for Mind and Heart
A good read, but a superior study. What is lacking in many ministries is the development of experience as well as theology. I was assigned to review this book by our RCIA director. My recommendation is to provide it for each member of the team. This book provides a METHOD of practicing ministry that is inclusive of the community, your personal experience, and tradition rather than simply a "preaching" from above. Each chapter is like a different course of a grand banquet; different texture, taste, and purpose. It deserves your finest wine. Bring the commitment of your very blood and be strengthened. By desert, you are ready to seek out a ministry for yourself.

An intelligent and entertaining mystery.
_Miss Melville Regrets_ is a well-written story of an artistic, forty-ish former socialite who becomes a paid assassin. In this highly entertaining first book in the series, Miss Melville -- out of money, out of a job, and soon to be out of a place to live -- decides to kill herself at a banquet to publicize her plight. On impulse, she instead turns her gun on the man being honored at the banquet, a wealthy and uncaring man who has caused some of her misfortune, and kills him neatly and efficiently with a single shot through the forehead. In the hubbub that follows, she is hustled out of the banquet hall by a stranger. He turns out to be a hired assassin who had been assigned to kill the very man Miss Melville had shot. He is so impressed by Miss Melville's skill with a gun that he recruits her as a paid assassin. The remainder of the book recounts her adventures in her new profession and evolves into a mystery as Miss Melville tries to figure out who is the shadowy figure who sponsors the assassinations. One of the most enjoyable parts of the book is learning about the world of banquets. Banquets are usually held to raise money for charity; the people invited are the rich but rather dim social set who have inherited more money than brains. We also learn about people who entertain themselves by crashing these events; for them, it's an opportunity to dress up and get a free meal. Miss Melville's unique position is that she is a member of both groups -- a former socialite who is now penniless. The quality of writing is first-rate. Evelyn E. Smith's language and style are always intelligent, fluid, and correct. Unfortunately, the copy-editing and proof-reading were sloppy; the book abounds in typographical errors. There are three more books in the series: _Miss Melville Returns_, _Miss Melville's Revenge_ (out of print), and _Miss Melville Rides a Tiger_ (also out of print).

New York Lampooned
Miss Melville and Miss Manners have a lot in common -- they both hold courtesy to be an obligation and propriety to be an art. But only Miss Melville has to decide the appropriate response to a death threat! And where else but in Miss Melville's New York would Mafiosi, Middle Eastern royalty, and our resident artist share a tea at a home for pregnant teens and chat about the problems of the residentially impaired? With wittier-than-usual writing and better-developed characters, "Miss Melville Rides a Tiger" is one of the best in the series.

A Nature Lover's Delight
I would have given this book 5 stars except for one problem. It really needs a pronunciation guide. Even adults will have difficulty pronouncing some of the unfamiliar animals' names. That said, all else is wonderful. The illustrations give a real feel for the forest habitat and its inhabitants. The story line describes typical activities of the various animals. It is like watching a PBS documentary on wildlife! In the back of the book there is a globe of the world, with the appropriate area spotlighted, and a one page blurb about the Virunga Mountains which is directed towards adults. Then there is a beautiful four page spread of the rain forest. On the fold-over pages to the four page spread are 32 different illustrations of plants and animals that live in the forest. A beautiful & informative book. I am eager to also read the other books in this series.

Excellent Pictorial History of Neptune, NJ
NEPTUNE & SHARK RIVER HILLS by Evelyn Stryker Lewis is an excellent pictorial history of Neptune Twp. and its unique waterfront enclave Shark River Hills in Monmouth County, NJ. The book is well-researched and replete with photographs tracing the development of this Central Jersey shore community. It is written with a "broad brush" so that readers of all ages can enjoy its colorful history. This book is a must for all current and past residents of this proud municipality.

A must for any feminist (male or female)
I read the 1982 version, and am trying to get the updated version. It's like having a dictionary in your house -- it's a must! An important book for feminists (of both sexes) even if they aren't Jewish or aren't Lesbian.

Handy out in the field
If your interested in upper midwest flowers and want something to take with you in the field than this is the book for you. It's armed with the common and latin name, where you're likely to find it and several have a little history about it's uses or how it was named. I've had my book for over ten years and still whenever I spot a flower I haven't seen I return to this book to find it's name and mark it as one I've found.
