Good reading!!
I purchased this book a couple of years ago. The author did a great job of wetting the appetite of an admirer of Madame Walker. The pictures were great and I look forward to passing it down to my children. The only downside to the book was that it didn't give any info as to what happened to the business after Madame Walker passed on and what happened to the grand daughter of Madame Walker. Madame Walker is an inspiration to me and was a remarkable woman.

Exciting, Electrifying, Riveting
I only wished that it wouldn't end. I wanted more. Very descriptive. Stories of a fascinating life. A can't put it down book. Much inside stuff about Vegas gambling and living in the fast lane with lots of sex and drugs. Throws you back in your seat like a jet.

Useful Insights, but Somewhat Uneven Quality
This collection of essays provides the reader with some of the growing insights being generated by the current generation of historians of religion in America. This book continues the effort to move consideration of the Methodist movement into the broader context of American history.

Some of the essays are shorter versions of arguments made in longer works by the same author (as with John Wigger's piece). But there is value in having these more condensed treatments of a subject.

Some of the stronger essays are provided by Hatch, Wigger, Hempton, Shiels, and Carwardine. But a couple of the essays are somewhat lacking. This is not unusual in a collection of essays, really. Still, there is some measure of disappointment, and the reader should know this. Having sounded a note of caution, I still give this collection five stars for the overall quality of the better essays.

Those interested in American history, or in American religious history, would do well to have this book in their libraries. Very useful.

Oscar meets the dark, as does Queenie. Lilah, Billy & Frances' normal daughter, becomes attached to Miriam and cannot be separated from her. To everyone's absolute surprise, Miriam marries Malcolm. Little Tommy, Lucille's boy raised on the farm by Lucille and Grace, comes of age, and plays an unsuspecting part in the eventual death of Elinor Caskey and her legacy of fear, and inadvertently returns the floods to Perdido, in spite of the levee.
Don't miss this series, you will have to find them in the used book stores but they are worth the search. Creepy, languid tales of the old south told in such flowing prose that you feel the heat and humidity, along with becoming a part of the small town and its gossip.

Microtransducer CAD: Physical and Computational Aspects (Computational Microelectronics)
Published in Hardcover by Springer Verlag (1999)
Authors: Arokia Nathan and Henry Baltes
Amazon base price: $218.00

Microtransducer CAD by A. Nathan
This is a much needed graduate level book/monograph on the physical principles of sensors and how sensors can be modeled. Although the physical principles are introduced and discussed using senior-level mathematics (advanced calculus, vectors and matrices) all the chapters are easy to read and follow; and provide the reader with the necessary principles and models for research and development in transducers. There are hardly any typographical errors. The book will be extremely useful in academic and corporate research and development laboratories working on sensors/transducers. It is ideal for graduate courses on sensors in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and physics departments. As a course textbook, the instructor will need to develop his own problem set as the book does not have questions or problems; though there are some examples in the book. As a graduate level course book it would score 4/5 due to a lack of end-of-chapter problems. There are numerous essential references for graduate students and engineers in this field and I found these references to be very helpful. What I like most about the book is that it has many tables of selected properties. For example, in Chapter 5 on Electrical and Thermal Properties, the authors provide several tables of properties, such as the Seebeck coefficient in semiconductors, Seebeck coefficient in metals, thermal conductivity of films etc. and they also carefully give the references from which the data were taken. I found these tables to be very useful for quickly checking on various physical properties of materials used in sensors. As a monograph, it is most highly recommended and it scores 5/5. All university and corporate research libraries should have a copy.

An excellent detective novel
The last in Collin's Nitti Trilogy is better than it's predecessor (True Crime), but not as strong as the first in the series (True Detective). Still, a fine novel and a fitting end to the cycle as Nate Heller's relationship with the famed gangster comes to an end.

The next in the series, The Neon Mirage, begins a new stage in the charater's existence.

Delightful version of a Slavic folk tale
The Month Brothers by Dorothy Nathan

Everyone knows that the twelve months of the year never meet but in this charming folk tale a little girl saw all twelve months at one time. Deep in the forest around a blazing fire the Months meet together as brothers each NewYear's Eve.

On a freezing Winter night, a wicked woman ordered her stepdaughter to go into the forest to find flowers. The poor child, bundled in her ragged clothes, sets out on her impossible quest. She is without hope knowing that she cannot return without flowers and that flowers won't bloom until March. The young girl weeps as she walks on until she comes upon a glade where twelve men stand warming themselves by a huge fire. They listen to her story, and you must read this book if you want to find out how they help her.

This children's book is based on a Soviet-era Russian play The Twelve Months by Samuel (or Samuil) Marshak. With delightful black and white illustrations by Uri Shulevitz, this 35 year old book is still a delight to read. Marshak's story has also been released in 1983 as Month Brothers, A Slavic Tale.

Mozart: Sonatas and Fantasies for the Piano
Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (1987)

One of the best available editions
This is one of the most accurate available editions of the Mozart piano sonatas. The editor, Nathan Broder, has worked from Mozart's autographs (where these survive) and the earliest printed editions. (This would seem to be just what a careful editor should do, but it is surprising how many editions of these works published within the last 100 years have failed to take such precautions.) Broder's editorial additions are carefully bracketed, and an informative introduction and notes remark on points of interest regarding the texts and ornamentation of these sonatas. Highly recommended

An excellent and accessible account of a mysterious disease
This book is an excellent and accessible account of a mysterious disease. The author compares the basics of the disease to a light bulb that has short-circuited; the nerves that carry electrical impulses in the body are damaged, and therefore the send sporadic messages. Specifically, nerve coverings are damaged because the immune system mistakenly attacks its own cells.

By using accounts of famous individuals who have been stricken with the disease, the author presents the disease as one that doesn't discriminate, one that can vary from person to person, and one that can be dealt with when under proper care. The book also discusses the immune system and the various forms of Multiple Sclerosis. The author does a good job of pointing out misconceptions and overstatements about the disease - for example, Multiple Sclerosis is not fatal and 2/3 of sufferers can still walk.

A very good book that will answer many questions in addition to fulfilling curriculum requirements.
