A great reference for both C and FORTRAN users!
As the title implies, this book is a great reference for someone who is looking for a guide to the syntax and usage of MPI. The book does not teach "parallel programming" and doesn't discuss other parallel programming tools which means that the nuts and bolts of MPI are all the more clearly presented and accessible. Furthermore, there are still plenty of examples which demonstrate the usage of the many MPI functions.

Another very valuable (and appreciated) aspect of the book is that *both* the C and FORTRAN prototypes are given when new MPI functions are presented (the C and FORTRAN implementations have slightly different forms).

Excellent Reference
Set up more as a reference than a tutorial, this book allows users with a very basic understanding of MPI to really take off up the learning curve

I found this book in a second hand book store about 10 years ago. It was the most riveting and memorable book I have ever read. I would like to read the reprint of it. This book grabs you right from the first page and never lets go!

Passion Play Pilgrim's Review
My huband and I were privileged to attend the Passion Play in Oberammergau last month. I saw this book at the shop across from the theater before the performance, but I did not purchase it because I thought it would be too heavy to carry in my suitcase on the rest of our European tour. After seeing the live Passion Play, I went back to the shop to purchase this book because it really captured both the history and performance of the "2000 Passionspiele." The only thing I regret is that they did not include a CD of the music that accompanied this incredible drama.

Spectacular Photography of a truly extraordinary play
If you do not have a chance to go to Germany this summer and see the passion play, this book is your one chance at a glimpse of a great tradition. This wonderful work, put on every ten years for the past 400, is the product of a small village in Germany where the locals play the parts of Christ's passion. The phtography captures as best as is possible the beauty and craftmanship of the production. "Passion" easily refers here to both the trails of Christ's earthly journey as well as the effort and style of the performers' work. The book is a very well done look at a play which is simply inspiring as good art really is.

Behind-the-scenes tidbits - plus patterns
"Pieces of an American Quilt" seems to fall into a category all its own. The book isn't really a quilt pattern book--although it has instructions for how to make several quilts seen in the film. And it isn't really a "making of" or movie trivia book--although it contains those elements as well.

Author and quilter Patty McCormick provides an interesting Hollywood outsider's perspective on the making of one of my favorite movies. McCormick is so NOT a movie person that when she gets a phone call to provide technical quilt assistance for "How to Make an American Quilt," she doesn't recognize the name of Steven Spielberg's production company. Her tales of how the movie's quilts were designed and created are quite fun to read.

Although the quilts were an integral part of the film, several specially created quilts appear on screen so briefly that getting the opportunity to study photos of them is a treat. Learning what happened to a few--such as the well-loved crazy-patch quilt that young Finn clutches while sitting underneath the quilting frame--was a bit like hearing fingernails grate down a chalkboard.

McCormick provides patterns for both the "Where Love Resides" Baltimore album quilt that the quilting circle works on throughout the film, and Anna's baby quilt featuring African animals. I didn't buy it ever planning to make either quilt, but those monkeys, lions and giraffes are rather growing on me. Perhaps someday.

5-star plus
This is a great fun book, full of life. The author describes the role that she and her "stunt quilters" played in the filming of the movie, How To Make An American quilt starring Winona Ryder. Quilters who loved the movie (based on the book by Whitney Otto) will love McCormick's book too. It contains full-sized patterns for several of the quilts you see in the movie, with all the details you never notice in the film.

I loved this book!
If you think psychoanalysis is dead... boy, are you wrong! Cooper and his collegues explain to us how this is still the most profound and clear path to the human mind. A must for anyone who has a mind that is not analysed. Those who have been analysed might also find this book mesmerizing!

A most insightful view of contemporary analytic thought.
Dr. Cooper continues to amaze us with this most thorough journey of contemporary analytic thinking. He shares his view on how psychoanalysis has evolved and the influence that has had on civilization. He gives an opinion that could only be conceived by one of the most influential clinical minds of this century.

Remember Me: Women & Their Friendship Quilts

Remember Me : Women & Their Friendship Quilts
There is something about friendship quilts that touches our hearts. Seeing those names from the past we wonder about these people. What were they like? What were their lives like? Linda Otto Lipsett wondered too and that wondering became this book. In "Remember Me" , she tells the stories of seven women and their friendship quilts. Along with the women's stories are beautiful pictures of their quilts as well as great old photographs of the women and their times. In order to write this book Lipsett interviewed numerous relatives and others who remembered these woman. Through the stories in this book we become aware of what it was like to be a woman during the times when these quilts were made. Somehow reading these stories written on such a personal level makes their lives so very real.

A Quilt is More Than Cloth and Thread
This book will intrigue any reader interested in American history, quilts, or the art of the human soul. A book is more than paper and ink, as a quilt is more than cloth and thread. Lipsett illuminates the lives of women who worked the names of loved ones and pieced together patches of remembrances into treasured friendship quilts. Historically the lives of the women were often fraught with hardship and deprivation. This book shares the beauty and joy these women created in the form of friendship quilts. For many women of the era, the quilts they left behind were the only concrete evidence that they ever existed. The cameo biographies bring the reader into the lives of these women. The photos and explanations emphasize the significance quilts have played in the lives of people. A wonderful book.

Excellent photography and reference for Old Roses
Wonderful photography and detail description of old and historic roses. Important information on Nurseries and Growers to help find them.

Excellent rose book
I took several books on rose gardening from the library and found that this one is the best. The pictures are great, the explicit details are excellent. I have started the rooting procedure and that seems at the moment to be working. The correct amount of time has not elapsed. I highly recommend it to rose novices. The book is so well liked by me that I am going to purchase it

One of the best (if no the best) in the feild
You cant go past this book,

This book reads at any level, Great introduction to the field as well as an indespencible reference. Shows easy to implement code examples, and has lots of pictures showing what can be acheived.

This has been a main reference for a theisis I am currently working on. The question is, why is it out of print. If you can find it it's worth it's wheight in gold.

A must
In my opinion, the best work ever written in the category not-for-beginner-but-available-to-non-specialist (such as Beauty of Fractals, by the same authors). An easy answer to question "How can I generate a fractal image with my PC?", from brownian motion to Julia sets. A must for reader interested in fractals (a bit out-of-fashion but still very interesting field).

I'm a MOM of a 5-year-old and I love to read it aloud
I bought this book to read to my son because I'd heard of Tony Millionaire- he's a cartoonist in our local alternative weekly and does two strips- Sock Monkey and Maakies. But this is him entering the children's book market for the first time and it's very cool.

It has the feel of a Stuart Little-ish classic- like a min-chapter book with pen and ink drawings. You can read it over two or three bedtimes for best effect. The drawings are amazing- beautfiul, sweet, detailed- and Isaac loves to look at each picture as I turn the page.

The writing appears to Isaac to be just a wonderful children's book, but as a fan of Tony Millionaire's adult work, I can pick up on the cool, inside vibe that gives parents rewards and chuckles as you read. My favorite kind of book- I don't zone out when I'm reading it to him!

I love love love it. And there you have it.

The best illustrator...ever!
I thouroughly enjoyed the book, as did my 2 year old sister. She kept asking for "more Sock-a Monkey". Awesome.
