Energize your teaching style!
This book is full of exciting ideas to help pep up your classroom and teaching style!:) I found so many ways to make learning meaningful to all my students. It is a great book for new teachers as well as seasoned teachers who are looking for ways to help motivate all types of students (as well as yourself). Even though I have read the book through once I still find new things to try each time I flip through the pages. This would be a great graduation gift for a new teacher!:)

"A Must-Have Book"
Motivation and Learning is one of the very best books we have ever put in the hands of teachers! The strategies are useful for any classroom, but specifically useful to teachers who develop lessons under a block schedule!

This book should be must reading for the new teacher.
"Motivation and Learning" is loaded with motivational strategies and tips that work for all grade levels. Spence Roger's research based strategies and tips not only make teaching easier through increased motivation but also increases student achievement. This book should be must reading for the new teacher as well as the seasoned veteran. Try "Class Commitments", "Carousel Graffiti", "Vanity Plates", and "Quality Assignmrnts". These are a few of the strategies that I have used from this book at the beginning of the school year. The difference in the quality of student work was obvious. Having taught for thirty years, I thought I knew it all. This book has raised student achievement to a new level in my classes. Hats off to Spence Rogers for hitting the nail on the head with "Motivation and Learning".

Separates hype from hope, again and again
When this book was first released, I gave a copy to my 75-year-old mother, who has osteoarthritis. Over and over, she's told me about consulting this book when trying to decide whether or not to try some remedy that a friend has suggested. She feels that it has kept her from spending a fortune on snake oil, and has made her bold enough to try alternative approaches that have been helpful, such as glucosamine-chondroitin supplements. Obviously it was the perfect gift.

An Excellent Guide For Anyone, Traditional or Nontraditional
I found this book very helpful in making sense out of the confusing array of alternative therapies out there these days. Ms. Horstman provides a no-nonsense overview of many traditional healing techniques, together with a comprehensive bibliography and medical references. The organization of the book makes it very easy to use, too. Overall, this book shows a high level of quality on all levels, and is a valuable resource for those of us in search of health and healing!

Great resource
Overall, a finely-written and much needed compendium of arthritis information. Judith Horstman did a wonderful job of sifting through the medical literature to produce an easy-to-access resource for the (often) confusing world of alternative arthritis treatments.

A nice family trip to the desert!
This is one great Foxtrot book. The arc about the desert trip is hilarious and it is well worth the invetiment on the future laughs when rereading this.

Hilarious---and almost eeire for myself!
This book is just great! I love the FoxTrot comic strip and wish my paper would carry it. Every single strip is great. I say FoxTrot is almost eeire for myself, 'cause I just see SO MUCH of myself in Jason---Star Wars nut, Star Trek fan, and lover of dinosaurs and the Lockheed F-117A Stealth Fighter. I think the Fox family's trip to Skeeter Falls is my favorite series of strips in this book. I highly recommend it!

FoxTrot #11
Bill Amend is back! The Fox family has a ton more fun and you will too! You'll laugh till your head falls off!

Must Have for WWII Aviation Enthusiasts
If you enjoy WWII aircraft, and appreciate the breath taking detail and accuracy of Rikyu Watanabe illustrations, you must have this book. I found my copy 3 years ago at OshKosh, and have been offered (...)for it - no way was I parting with it. It is, without question, the finest piece of reference / art work on these 12 aircraft I have ever seen. Vet, IFR Priv. pilot, R/C aircraft modeler.

Incredible!
I'm a WWII airplanes enthsiast, and this book has filled all my expectations. The text, the scaled drawings, the fold-out panels, everithing is exceptional in this complete guide of WWII airplanes. The drawings of this book are incredibly detailed, and if you're meticulous, you'll never find a book like this. My grandfather was a WWII pilot and became nostalgic when he saw the plane he had flown.

Lots of nostalgia
In my opinion, the most beautiful book of WWII aircraft which has ever been published.

I have flown the F4U-5NL Bu.No. 124511 found in the picture on page 253 with Ens. Cawley's name on the side. He was one of our squadron mates in VC-4, NAS Atlantic City in the early 'fifties.

Brings back many fond memories. Highly recommended to all aviators and aviation enthusiasts.

The field guide that started it all
If you're getting into birding, or want a good field guide to see what birds are at your cabin or in your yard, this is it.

It's got the bird listed opposite from the description and has arrows to show field marks of a species. New in the 5th edition are:

Maps on the same page as the description (maps improved too!)
The description mentions how common the bird is in the east.
The area covered doesn't take a sharp turn and leave out the tip of texas

If you're getting more into birding I'd highly recommend David Sibley's guide, it has many more views and plumages of each bird, but is a bit large to take in the field.

Probably the best of the field guides
The 5th edition of Peterson's field guide is an improvement over previous edtions. The maps are included in the front with the birds now, in addtion to having a separate more detailed map in the back of the guide.
These range maps are the best of all current guides because the details are easiest to see because their so big.
Sibly's is great also but because of it's size(the guide itself) I wouldn't recommend it for the field, more as a reference for back home.
So if your going to own just one field guide the 5th edtion Peterson's is the best all around guide out there.

My new bird book....
I may have finally found a relacement for my old Peterson Field Guide to Eastern Birds. My new Peterson guide -- BIRDS OF EASTERN AND CENTRAL NORTH AMERICA -- arrived today and is it beautiful. Best of all, it has a flexible cover and is light enough to carry into the field.

I have dozens of bird books, but this little guide is by far the best for field work. In addition to it's apparently waterproof and flexible cover, and being just the right size for a backpack (you can even carry it in your hand comfortably--no small feat for my arthritic hands), the new guide includes those nifty little arrows Peterson has used forever. The arrows, size specifications, and placement of maps on the same page as the species, allow the bird watcher to immediately locate and identify distingishing characteristics.

The Peterson guide does not contain as much detail as the SIBLEY GUIDE, or the NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC BIRDS OF NORTH AMERICA, or the SMITHSONIAN HANDBOOK - BIRDS OF NORTH AMERICA, but the Peterson guide is detailed enough for field work and much lighter. If you are a serious bird watcher you will want to buy all four books, but if you can only afford one or don't want to invest in all four, the PETERSON GUIDE is still the best bet. And, I still think the Peterson guide is the best one to use with kids.

The National Geographic guide includes some wonderfully modeled bird specimens with incredible detail that could only be produced digitally. The Peterson illustrations are hand painted and thus not as detailed. Although other books may show more detail, the question is -- will you really need all the detail in the field? Generally, you have only a few seconds to identify a bird. Peterson's arrow markers and the alternating sections of white and light bluish-grey backgrounds make it easier for me to flip around the book quickly.

The SMITHSONIAN GUIDE is fully loaded and very heavy. Each bird occupies a single page, and the guide provides a nice "rule-of-thumb" feature that allows you to gauge the bird's size by the book size. I use my Smithsonian guide for follow-up work after a trek in the field -- and in my own back yard.

Apparently, the Peterson folks have considered the effects of global warming as the winter and summer ranges of the birds have been extended. I now have five kinds of wrens visiting my small back yard in Arlington VA. And, when I travel to Wisconsin in a week or so, I can use the Peterson guide because it extends west to Minnesota.

Perfect, wish I had it sooner
My son had a wood turtle who was experiencing some problems with his eyes. Finally bought this book, but the turtle died before I got the book. The book is very good and has a lot of good information for us people who don't know much about turtles. Wish I would have gotten the book a little sooner and realized what the problem really was.

NO Boxie owner should be without!!
This book is awesome! Everything that keepers need can be found here in this easy to read, straight to the point book. If you have, or are considering a pet Box turtle you need this book!!

The Box Turtle Manual or "My Box Turtle Bible"
I love this book. I can't praise it enough for all the helpful hints it has given me, helped me out with big and small problems I've encountered with my turtles, and last but not least, it SAVED ME MONEY because I didn't have to go to the veterinarian with all the small problems, they were easily dealt with once I knew how. It's a must-have for any turtle-owner!

Good read....
I really enjoy Chris Roger's books, but wouldn't mind seeing less of Parker in the coming books of the series. Why is it a female character who whines about the dangers of her husband/boyfriend's job is a harpy, but we excuse the same behavior from a male character? Love Dixie, but Parker's got to go!

Another great "Factor"
Chris Rogers continues to keep us totally involved with Dixie Flanagan and her man Parker. I loved the first two books in this series and this one lived up to my expectations, though I think we saw a gentler Dixie this time. The writing is smooth and the story gets the reader involved immediately. I highly recommend this book.

Dixie is back!
Do you know where your grandmother is right now? She might be so lonely she's turned to someone with a hidden agenda for comfort. She might be robbing a bank. She might be getting herself killed. Chris Roger's heroine returns in this third novel in the Dixie Flannigan series and Chill Factor will have you wondering from page one how some sweet old women connected up with such nasty bad guys, but the biggest question will be, How can Dixie stop these mind-control experts from claiming more victims? A satisfying read in a great series with a strong heroine.
