Sylvia Nobel knows how to write a mystery
I have read all three of Sylvia's books, but Deadly Sanctuary kept me guessing right up to the end---what a surprise!!! I read it on my lunch hours, and had to force myself to go back to work. I HAD to know what would happen next.

This is a great read, and I recommend it to anyone who loves mysteries. This feisty redhead will keep you entertained for hours with her sometimes harrowing escapades in the Arizona
desert.

You'll never guess the ending of this one!
I'm not usually a big mystery buff, but I thought I'd give this one a try and I'm glad I did. Now I understand what the phrase "compulsive page turner" means -- I just couldn't stop reading! It's such an imaginative plot, with so many twists and turns I can't imagine many readers figuring it out ahead of time. A definite must read.

Intense Page Turner
This book is fabulous! You will read it in one sitting because you cannot put it down! A great mystery, quite the whodunit! I recommend it tremendously! Then hurry up and buy The Devil's Cradle and Dark Moon Rising ASAP, because you can't get enough of Kendall O'Dell!

PLAIN TALK requred reading.
Over my 37 year career in business I have read many books on leadership and how to manage a company for success. PLAIN TALK ABOUT LEADERSHIP is more than your typical leadership/management book and it is written by someone that has REALLY run a large company and turned it into one of the most successful in its industry.

Just the fact that the author has "been there and done that" speaks volumes (no pun intended) in my opinion. PLAIN TALK is very well written but more importantly it contains down to earth advice. Advice that has actually worked for the author in real life, and advice that will be of benefit for anyone that wants to imporve their leadership/management skills. Not only does it cover important topics for all managers it contains Silver Bullets at the end of each chapter that serve as easy reminders for those who want to sharpen their leadership/management skills.

PLAIN TALK shoud be required reading for all those who want to be good leaders and managers.

Bob Bailey's"Plain Talk About Leadership"
Loved Bob Bailey's book, Plain Talk About Leadership. Thought it had info for all endeavors of life. Quick and easy to Read. Loved the Silver Bullets. This book is not only for the business world, but High School students would get value from the book as well. I highly recommend it. Marilyn Bumpus Washington Court House, Ohio

Illustrations in Leadership
Bob Bailey provides many illustrations from his successful career to "hammer home" his points on Foundation of Leadership Being Great Communications. Mr. Bailey reinforces the importance of open, face to face, frequent and repetitive communications in creating an effective organization. I provided copies of this book to all my managers.

great book
Many speakers who have trouble obtaining bookings experience difficulties not because of a lack of talent, but because their marketing materials fail to project a professional image. Roger C. Parker's One-Minute Designer can prevent this from happening to you. Roger C. Parker's One-Minute Designer illustrates the details that spell the difference between design success and design failure. This book is a fast read. Best of all, you don't have to read it at one sitting because each page is devoted to a single idea. You can pick it up at any point and begin reading. Get the One-Minute Designer if your business success depends on your marketing materials projecting a favorable first impression.

Roger Parker Makes it Easy
One-Minute Designer Revised edition Roger C. Parker MIS:Press, 1997

Like it or not, if you use a computer you are a typographer, and that's anyone who arranges words within a given space: letter, report, bulletin, brochure, ad, billboard, book, sign etc. You don't have to be a graphic designer to create good typography because Roger Parker makes it easy to communicate clearly. The book is methodically organized. Each page is devoted to one subject, i.e. column width, placement, type sizes, word and letter spacing, font choice-all 204 of them. Parker writes easily, clearly, succinctly, and is always on the side of the reader, and the absence of verbiage and posturing is refreshing. Each page has direct, easy-to-understand two color illustrations that unambiguously define the text. Unlike program manuals that have incomplete or misnamed subjects, I'm impressed with Parker's contents page and glossary, which makes it easy for the reader to find information quickly. The soft cover book is a comfortable, easy to hold 7" x 9" portrait format. For quick review, the italic captions are printed in red. Text is set in one of my favorite fonts Minion, designed by Robert Slimbach one of the world's great type designers. The generous 11-point size makes is easy to read. This is a book that makes it easy to produce good looking, well organized layouts that communicate, a rarity in manuals. Parker's book should be within arm's length at a workstation, and [for the money], it's money in the bank.

Doyald Young, teacher and author: Logotypes & Letterforms and Fonts & Logos

This book is fantastic!
I bought this masterpiece after I read 'The Non-Designers Design Book' by Robin Williams. The content is much the same, but explored much more thoroughly, with clear examples and well-thought layouts.

If you want to get only one book on Desktop Publishing, THIS IS THE ONE! Don't waste your time with other books.

The second kiss
I read "The Second Kiss" in 1999. It's a wonderful book. The author has such a gift of taking you right into the story. It is a love story that you want to go on for eternity. I do wish this book would be reprinted so I could own my own copy. I have had the honor of meeting Gayle Rogers, and she is as enchanting as her writings.

UNFORGETTABLE, BITTERSWEET,AWESOME
I read this book in the late 70s, and read it and reread many, many times. This has been my favorite historical romance novel of all times. No other compare to this magical, bittersweet romance story. The dialogue of the Native Americans are so incredibly profound that it makes your heart melt. I wanted it to go on and on. Gayle, the author, seemed to have such a spirtual insight when she wrote this book. This love story is passionate, gentle, mystical, heartbreaking and leaves you wanting more. After I read it, I kept looking for her novels and couldn't find any. I read it first as "Nakoas Woman", then discovered that it was first named "The Second Kiss". I still have a very old copy, and am going to buy another one to have my daughter read it.

Second Kiss
I read Nakoa's Woman about 25 years ago, and have never forgotten it, especially the haunting ending. I just reread it under a dif. title, SECOND KISS. This books speaks of the continuation of the soul, about us being on this Earth to love and grow. The poignant and heart wrenching love between Nakoa and Maria is so well written and lyrical, that joy and tears are elicited. The author deeply understands the struggles and the rapture of finding one's self, surrender and acceptance. The American Indian culture is authentically portrayed, and contrasted against the white man's world. You must treat your mind and heart to reading this book. Gayle Rogers, if you read this please mail me. Thank you for writing such a wonderful book that touched my soul.

Whackiest way to change your life
What's the best way to whack yourself to a more creative way of life? Surely the Creative Whack Pack is one of the more practical systems to problem solving for anyone. I bought one sometime ago, now I'm buying four more for my colleagues at work and for Christmas I'll be buying some more

Top-notch creativity stimulators!
Roger vonOeck's WHACK series -- cards, books, etc -- are an outstanding way to boost your level of creative thinking in many areas of life: professional, personal, and even parenting/relationships! Whack-y approaches to perception and problem solving foster a "don't panic" mentality in troubleshooting and problem-solving with their upbeat attitude, but don't let that fool you into thinking that they are not the seriously useful tools they are. Highly recommended, R.vanO's WHACK and related materials will enhance your way of thinking and doing almost anything to which you apply their concepts! 0:) S.Mako

A POWERHOUSE TO SLAM THROUGH ANY BLOCK
I am no reviewer, I can assure you. I can't offer "words of wisdom" that any "normal" person can't figure out for themselves. May I, at the very least, offer you my humble opinion of this work? I will start by saying that NOTHING can make you smarter, wiser, more astute, or more creative... There is not a teacher nor an author that will transform you into a "million seller". However, there MAY be a work that can HELP you to unlock the "closed doors" of your mind. I bought this to help me overcome "writer's block." I learned that I block my own life in various ways that have NOTHING to do with my craft. This work means absolutely NOTHING if you already know everything. If, perhaps, you need a "kick in the pants"--a "nudge" towards the obviously "too obvious"...Then THIS is for you...At the very LEAST--it was for ME. Thanks.

Discover It! A Better Vocabulary, The Better Way

An effective approach to vocabulary building
I felt "Discover it!" was an effective and efficient way to build my vocabulary. One of the hypotheses of the book is that words are best learned in context. This concept, learning in context, motivated me to buy "Discover it!." "Discover it!" presents word in a natural context. As a graduate student in Speech & Language Pathology I have had to learn and apply knowledge about vocabulary developement. Again and again it was stressed that vocabulary, and language in general, flourishes best when learned in a natural context and with repetition. "Discover it!" does this well. Before each section there is a "word cluster" and "word builder" test. This test is not like the ones in school. It is clever strategy to help you conjure up the concept of the word-root(s) that will be presented in the following section. So, before you "know" what the word-stem is you already have a strong feeling for the what you are about to learn and your brain is "primed" for storing what you are about to study. In addition to the books clever organization, it present the cognates of words presented. For example, the common element bases "bene and bono", which mean "well" or "good", have roots with similar meanings (cognates)in a language other than Latin, such as French, Romanian, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish. All of the similar word-roots are presented. By providing this information I found it easier to identify word-roots that were spelled differently in the words I learned from the book and when I encountered new words. Overall, this book made learning vocabulary words easy and effective. I did not have to work hard to remember the information presented because it gave words a context. Having a context made recalling the vocabulary words easier than if I were to just study the vocabulary words from flash-cards. Having spent many hours making flash-cards and not getting very much out of them, I am thankful that Dr. Danner assembled an easy to use book that facilitated effective learning.

Short of Learning Latin, Greek, etc.
Dear Potential Reader:

I have nothing but praise for Dr. Danner's _Discover It_. He has taken one of the best methods for self-help learning, the graduated inductive method, and combined it with accurate information about the origins of English words. The reader is led, step by step, into developing an ever larger and more enriched English vocabulary. I would say that anyone who works through the entire book will acquire a level of etymological knowledge and a facility with English vocabulary that normally could only be produced by a course in etymology taught at the college level. My own preference would be for students to learn the relevant languages; _semper nobis linguae addiscendae sunt_. But short of learning Latin, Greek, French, and German, you can do nothing better for building your English vocabulary than to buy and use Danner's _Discover It!_. I highly recommend it.

Cluster Learning Makes it Easy
I have searched for a good method of learning vocabulary for years. I've spent lots of $$ on the latest word building tapes, CDs and books that taught long lists of words to memorize. The problem is that those words were forgotten only weeks after memorizing them. Recently while cramming for the GRE test, I discovered the "Discover It" method described in Danner and Noel's book. It uses a different approach which teaches word clusters instead of individual words, based on the learning the Latin roots of words. This approach saved an enormous amount of study time. The approach allowed me to be able to accurately determine the meaning of a word, even if I had never seen it before. This is a fantastic book. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to build his/her vocabulary, or take a entrance exam for which he wants to be well prepared.

What makes this book special is that they feature other photos to flesh out the full story. You relive every trip you've made to the park. If you do have a collection of the postcards, a checklist is also featured. This book was everything I had hoped for and more!

The Finest Disneyland History In Print!
We're just glad this book is back in print for all to enjoy! With first editions now selling for over $200, it's great to see the 2nd edition just in time for Disneyland's 45th Anniversary. The story of Walt Disney and Disneyland is told through the history of Disneyland souvenir postcards from 1955 thru the present. Bruce Gordon and David Mumford are to be commended for this true labor of love. The book is jam packed with hundreds of color and black & white photos (as well as images of the original Disneyland postcards); and the accompanying text accurately tells the story of Walt Disney's creative vision for a new form of family entertainment. Beautifully bound and printed with quality materials. A fascinating read from cover to cover! Bravo!

BURSTING AT THE SEAMS!
If you're a fan of Disneyland and it's history, then this book is a must! I was astounded by the scope of this work, and the attention to detail. It covers Disneyland from it's beginnings in the early 50's to the present day with individual "stories" about the different aspects of the park. Accompaning these "stories" are hundreds of rare photos and artwork along with the postcards the book is named after. This is a definite must have book for fans of the California park.

STORIES TO SOFTEN EVEN THE HARDEST HEART!
THE DAY I MET GOD is filled with inspiring and amazing stories of people who had an encounter with God....even the most unlikely of individuals. There's a story for everyone in this book. It will reach anyone and soften the hardest heart! If you have a friend who is need of God's healing power or truth, this is the book for them. These stories will lead them to God! I particularly was moved by the story of the young man was robbing a man who agreed to give him his money, but told the burglar that he needed to give his heart to the Lord. There's is no doubt in mind that this victim must have prayed for the man who robbed him, because he was later led to the Lord. The criminal was really haunted by the man's words until he gave his life to the Lord. I won't spoil the surprise of how he turned his life around! A great evangelical tool, this is a book that Christians can give to their non-Christian friends without fear of offending them. This book''s gentle stories speak loudly of everyone's need for God and also it shows how we are all individuals and how God meets us not just where we are but in such a special way that it validates how well he knows his children.

My whole family is loving it!
Bought the book last week and we are passing it around the house-everyone wants to read The Day I Met God, we have nearly worn it out! Theis collection of stories will touch your heart and move you as you see God's faithfulness. Get an extra copy for a friend!

This Book Made a Profound Impression Upon Me
Truth is stranger than fiction, for these stories are totally absorbing. The Day I Met God causes the reader to re-evaluate his own life. In my case, it made a profound impression upon me. I hadn't yet finished it, when I realized that it was time for me to follow the examples in this book. It's about time--I am 81 years old.

A Close-up Look at American History
Thom fleshes out American history with real characters, and an inside look at one of early America's most influential families. Although some of the Revolutionary War and Indian War sequences drag on a bit long, it was well worth the trip as a launching pad for the famed Lewis & Clark exploration. In fact, I hated to leave them as they reached the Pacific, and would like to see how they faced those same challenges on the journey home. It paints a less than flattering picture of our nation's early history, while at the same time celebrating the bravery of those who made it happen. Readers who enjoy historical fiction will enjoy even more this piece of history that Thom embraces like a story.

brings American history to life
Although I'm not much of a history buff, I read this book at the advice of a friend. By the end of the first chapter I was hooked. Thom brings the adventures of the Clark family to life. The book is accurate from a historical perspective and leaves the reader with a new appreciation of the courage and sacrifice behind our country's westward expansion. A must read.

Great Revolutionary era history from the Frontier
This is the best novel of Revolutionary American history I have ever read. The story of the Clark family is incredible, especially that of two particular sons, George and William. Perhaps the main theme of this book is leadership. George Rogers Clark was a phenomenal leader. He almost single-handedly won the western frontier during the Revolution. In the end, he was ruined rather than rewarded, for his efforts. As his inner fire dies, it is momentarily rekindled by his young brother, who departs to co-lead the greatest adventure in American History. Thom's depiction of George's brutal marches on Kaskaskia and Vincennes, and the Journey of the Corps of Discovery, is a masterwork.

Superb
I read this book years ago, but the story of George Rogers Clark has stayed with me. Thom is one of those rare authors that can paint pictures with his masterful weaving of words. A fictional presentation of a real-life hero, a man who accomplished amazing things and lived and outstanding life - and he is one that has long been overshadowed in the history books to a degree by his younger brother's feats (William Clark, famed adventurer of the Lewis & Clark team).

Thom has done a superb job of showcasing George Rogers Clark in this book. It's an outstanding read and could well set the reader on an adventure for more historical fiction from this fine author. Be sure to check out 'From Sea to Shining Sea' as well.

Not a quick read, but well worth it.
This is the second book I've read by James Alexander Thom. I love the way this author writes. Like the first book that I ready, Follow The River, this book pulled me in and I couldn't wait to get back to reading it to see what happened next. Thom does a superb job in his research. I read the book over the Christmas holiday when I was travelling. After the holidays I happened to catch a History Channel presentation on George Rogers Clark. To my surprise, Thom was included among the experts that they interviewed. I would recommend that anyone who likes to read about history and have it brought to life in the story read this book. I can't wait to read another book by Thom.

long knife
this story shows how the efforts of "george rogers clark" contributed to the growth of this country. we are used to hearing about the exploits of the revolutionary war but not often do we get a chance to know what was going on in the northwest territory. this is one of the best books i have ever read that covers how important a part was played by what was happening there. i recommend this book as an excellent read and most informative.
