Adorable! A great childrens fantasy.
I have always loved reading, but when my first grade teacher gave me this book when i was six, I read a little of it, then put it down. It wasn't until six years later, I was browsing my book shelves filled with my childhood books that I found this book again. It was a school morning, but I picked it up anyways and started reading it. I couldn't put it down! Sure, it wasn't my reading level, but it was a sweet book, written in a way that makes you want to know what happens next. It's about a little boy named Nick who gets an Aussie puppy named Aleasha instead of his wish-a sister. Aleasha wants Nick to play with her like he would a real little girl, but he doesn't. So she comes up with a plan. She will turn into a human. What happens next? Read the book to find out, or read another review that theaches you more about it. Whatever!! But it's a really sweet book.

An enchanting fantasy for young dog lovers!
The Puppy Sister is a fantasy to be enjoyed by young or the young at heart. Alesha, a Aussie puppy doesn't understand why Nick (her owner)doesn't treat her like a person. Then, as she realizes that she isn't human, she decides that she can become a human. A true masterpice!

A very funny book that is sure to make children laugh.
This is a very funny book that is sure to make children laugh. Even the student who doesn't like to read will enjoy this book. The illustrations that are included in the book help the reader visualize exactly what the puppy sister looks like. I would recommend it for anyone, ages 8 and up, especially animal lovers. The theme of the book evolves around dogs, brothers and sisters, and family life. After reading this book, readers will never look at their pets in the same way again. The Puppy Sister is the type of book that can be read either privately or aloud to an entire class. This would be an excellent book to use during a discussion of brother and sister relationships. It could also be used with students who are planning on getting a new pet. After reading this book, students will realize just how closely animals sometimes resemble people - both in their actions and looks.

great book..
good sons who didnot forget their up bring. could read more...

Heart warming, entertaining and funny
After reading this book I felt proud to be the daughter of one of the authors(Ed Morris) He has always inspired me and directed me in the right way. As you can see in this book that he and my uncles had a hard life and intended to use his life and the situations that came about to nourish his family. The book was one book of many biographies that I have read that you actually felt like you had lived this life. I loved the book and would recommend it to anyone to read. Of course being modest due to the fact that my dad and my uncles wrote it. I am very proud to be a Morris.

"Roads" an enriching and entertaining journey
It was the first time I had ever been to the hollow in the narrow valley of Aaron's Fork, about 20 miles northeast of Charleston. It was way too cold for a Florida lad, accustomed to warm, sunny Februarys. The frost-painted grass under my feet made a loud crunching sound as we walked back to where the three room plank house and pole barn had sheltered the family. Everything seemed frozen in time, like a movie set from scenes shot before color graced the screens. As a guest of one of the Morris brothers, I felt like I had a front row seat in a replaying of the first part of that movie which ran some six decades ago. While "The Roads That brought Us home" is not a PBS documentary, it easily could be one in the making. Brothers Ed, David and Roger grew up among the poorest of the poor in rural West Virginia, yet each of them would climb well above the poverty line and rise to the top of their chosen professions. Their road began in Aaron's Fork with no well or even an outdoor toilet. Drinking water was provided by a spring that bubbled out of the ground and they "did their business" behind a large rock near a creek. It was years before they got a radio and in the early years received no newspapers or magazines to learn about the "outside" world. But one by one, they left Aaron's Fork and moved into mainstream America, their mixed personalities as mixed as the country growing up with them. Brother David made a career out of drinking from the government trough of Illinois, a quiet, devoted, likeable team player who worked for a time with a man who is probably most famous for being Monica Lewinsky's lover. Brother Roger is a marathon runner who has become an accomplished sophisticate, acting as Director of Public Affairs for DuPont Pharmaceuticals and a food critic (as well as a former wine columnist) for USA Today. Brother Ed became a college English teacher and long-time editor for Billboard magazine. He is probably one of the most honest observers of the follies of the human race, a truly funny vegetarian who attaches himself to common sense in its purest form. He hates everything from religion to sports, to dancing, to small talk, to pierced ears and tattoes. Far from being self-righteous, he is his own worst critic. A fourth brother, Darrell, who was the eldest, died before this book was written, but his life was clearly influenced by the others, as was their late mother, Mary Elizabeth, whose death in 1988 drew the three together again. In "The Roads That Brought Us Home" David, Roger and Ed speak to the reader as if he or she were the fourth person in the room, listening as the grown-up boys trade memories about their separate but overlapping lives. The book is their story, but it's also yours and mine.

The saddest story I ever read
I cried unconsolably for days after reading this book. The pathos, the sheer bleakness hit me like a ton of bricks...oh, I'm sorry, wrong book. I liked this book, cats are inherently funny, so when you combine cats with that other great element of comedy, Samurai, you have total comic genius. I laughed, I cried, I'd read it again.

FUNNIEST BOOK EVER WRITTEN!!!!!!!!
This is literally the funniest book I have ever read. Although, if you don't have a good base of knowledge concerning weapons in general and firearms in particular, you probably won't find it as amusing as I did. It also helps if you read a lot to be able to recognize the "Guest Villains" as they appear. And it doesn't hurt to like cats

the best samurai cat book ever!!!!!!1
This is without a doubt the best Samurai Cat book written. They all rank as the best fantasy-adventure-historical-comedy books avalable. Rogers is the funniest man alive

An incredible hands-on resource

The tips are so practical and arranged in sections that range from creating a classroom environment to increasing student motivation. NOt only are the tips presented in an engaging fashion, there is also room to personalize the tips, which I find helpful. As an English teacher who loves to give books as gifts, this is THE book that I give to student teachers and interns. What a super resource!

Outside the Wind Whispers/Ute susar vinden
Many of the poems could be mentioned but one in particular seems worthy of note. "Outside the Wind Whispers" is the poem I have chosen to write about because I think it reveals an interesting aspect of Vesaas's poetry. Forgive my taking the liberty of quoting from page 35 of the paperback version of Through Naked Branches:

Inklings of the storm,

of the heavy trembling,

are surely what drive

us together.

Inklings of loneliness,

of a creeping frost,

an imminent fall,

a futile cry.--

[The formatting of the poetry might be lost. I have double spaced the lines hoping that they maintain the proper format. When I didn't double space them, they flowed together as one long line.]

This final stanza of "Outside the Wind Whispers" seems to me to describe the sensation of much of Vesaas's poetry. He often describes awesome and magnificent aspects of nature and contrasts these with a sensation of emptiness or spaciousness. He attributes human characteristics to nature and creates a feeling of humanity overwhelmed, or humanity buffeted by forces it cannot control.

from the stoop
the previous reviewers have not mentioned "From the Stoop." this poem is about dusk's arrival. it is one of many in the collection that refreshingly infuses a typical daily experience or event with a new and emphatic significance. in a sense, the reader must pause and remember to reconsider the dramatic effect of that which she sees every day in nature. "Rain in Hiroshima" on the other hand, describes an unnatural event which had, and continues to have, a huge impact on the world, which is very different than that of dusk's approach. however, the two poems are written with a similar wondering and melancholic intensity.

I would like to quote the poetry to show you the grace and power of the language, but I am not sure if that is permitted.

A Total "Bargoon"
I enjoyed Miss Haversham's review, but I must point out that you don't have to be a contortionist to enjoy this book!! She hit the nail on the head regarding the highlights of the book's content, but she did make a few errors that I cannot resist correcting. The paperback version of the book is almost 200 pages, not 150 pages. The poetry is translated from Norwegian into English and not the other way around.

I too enjoyed the poem entitled "The Small Rodents," but I was more impressed by such poems as "The Loon Heads North" and "The Horse." The poetry is mysterious, moving and quite varied in theme.

Bravo to Miss Haversham for reviewing this book first and pointing out its many interesting aspects!

Inspiring for the young and old
Waves of Passion, Inspirations for Love, speaks to your heart and soul about love. As you read the poems, scripture, and comments, you know Roger Mangum has "been there, done that". Regardless of the state of love you are in-searching for love, found love, lost love-you can relate to these poems. This is a book to leave out on the coffee table, because it is inspiring for the young and the old.

Inspirations for Love ~ Inspirations for Life
Though this is a relatively short work (128 pages), it is "full" from beginning to end. Never before have I read a publication in one sitting such as this one: scripture, poetry, self exploration, advice, heartache and wisdom all set up in a biographical type form centered around love and our need for it.

Roger Mangrum's works coupled with Rich Drennan's art makes for an outstanding adventure into your own heart as you journey these pages. So many have lost love, suffered from broken hearts or are in situations where their love lives could use some sort of remedy. If you fall into any of these categories, this would be just the right prescription in your quest to cure what ails you. Roger Mangrum sums it up best with his definitions of love, "Love is helping each other grow -- fully!" and, "Love is a poem left undone."

Our thoughts are our pens and our minds are our papers -- if we keep our pens moving in the ways which would benefit and inspire our minds, such as Roger has, our lives surely would become more fulfulling.

Truly a book to inspire.
I found Rogers book to be humerous, sad, and inspiring. The book is about how he found love, lost love, the heartbreak he went through, then to find a way to mend his heart through God's love and the ability to love himself and finally, to find that person we all search for, our sole-mate.

Once again...
Once again Rosemary Rogers does it again. This book was filled with memorable characters. I enjoyed it immensely. Another can't put down book as usual. The romance was exciting as always. If you like historical romance this book is a must.

The Best Twist and Love Story I Have Read!
This is my all time favorite story. The characters lived lives that were realistic with their sexual laisons, etc. I get tired of reality being left out of romance books. Authors like Rogers who dare to include in their stories such things as the incest the step father forced on Rowena make the stories more interesting. This story has so many interesting and shocking twist to it as the family history and relationships are revealed. I fell in love with Lucas. He seemed to be such a senuous man. The relationship between him and Rowena was disturbing, erotic, and thankfully ended positive. I can't say enough about the twist in the stroy, these twist and Lucas is what made this my all time favorite!!!

Truly Captivating
The Wildest Heart was the first historical romance I ever read...and that was at fourteen. The characterization and story still capture my imagination today (I am in my mid-thirties). I enjoyed being introduced to Rowena and Lucas and viewing the struggles they went through, both together and individually. It was wonderful to have the opportunity to watch them grow emotionally and to watch them discover they were stronger than they realized. Rosemary Rogers' Wildest Heart kept me captivated well beyond the last page...beyond the last word...her Ro and Luke continue to wander out there in the southwest, two truly "wild hearts."

Ready, Set, Relax enriches education...
Ready, Set, Relax provides teachers and parents with an important resource for helping young children learn valuable self-regulation skills. Jeff Allen and Roger Klein make us aware that learning requires both physical and mental preparation. By introducing physical relaxation and positive mental imaging skills into the classroom environment, children develop essential learning prerequisites, increase self-confidence, and enrich creative interactions between teacher and child. The lessons of Ready, Set, Relax should be eagerly integrated into every elementary school curricula.

This book helped my child overcome fears.
We ran through the "Ready, Set, RELAX program when our child had a serious illness. It helped him overcome his fear of treatment and helped reduce the anxiety level of our whole family. I am hoping for a sequel.

Wonderful
This book is a fantastic alternative to customary means by which you raise your children. I wish my own parents could have read this fine book 40 years ago.

A wonderful story that could have really been
Wow, life really is vibrant in this wonderful story. In every tale there is truth, and I dare say it exist here in.

Exquisite writing; a must-read.
Saul's Book ranks among the top three gay fiction novels written (others are Baldwin's "Giovanni's Room", and Holleran's "Dancer From the Dance"). The writing is vivid and stunning; the characters are extremely well drawn such that you understand their motivations completely while despairing of their choices. A very compelling read. Come, see what great writing is.

Top 5
I was expecting to see scores of reviews for this book. This is an amazingly good book. Not for the naive or timid. I read it 5 or so years ago and I still flash on it. Paul T. Roger's only book. RIP.

Excellent Read!
I can't say it enough- this book is excellent! Jim Mahoney is a great story teller. I went through a phase where I read a lot of veterinary anecdote books and this is by far the best one. The focus of the book is about how he saved a puppy he found, but throughout it he tells stories of other animals throughout his career. The stories are truly touching and very well written- I was constantly reading them outloud to anyone who was around. I definitely recommend this book to everyone, not just animal lovers!! You won't be disappointed!

Very important and touching book. Read it!
I have read and re-read this book. Everytime, Dr.Mahoney's sincere account of his life with Molly and the chimps , his love for the fellow creatures and his agony over some of the hard choices he made, move me. This is a must read for everybody who wants to understand the meaning of love and understanding between human and animals.

Every animal rights activist should read this book!
No matter which side of the fence you're on regarding animal research, Dr. Mahoney's thoughtful and well written book is a must read. It's a wonderful peek into the lives of some courageous and caring individuals (animals and humans) who have given their lives to science so that all mankind may benefit. As an animal lover it's comforting to know that people like Dr. Mahoney are out there making the lives of research animals better and helping fight disease for all of us. Buy this book, read it, then make a contribution to the retirement homes of Dr. Mahoney's friends!
