Haunting
My interest in the band "Garbage" led me to this book - its title was used by them to create a chillingly magnificent song on their second CD. I found the book itself to be one of the most creative and compelling works I read this year. The story it tells gets under your skin to such a point that I don't recommend it for those already depressed. For the rest of us, it is a chilling look inside a sympathetic character, a young woman dancing around the border between sanity and madness. She knows she is on the verge of losing it all, and knows she is not getting the kind of help she needs from anyone - least of all the mediocre medical personnel who see her as just one more casefile. Yet she's unable to shake the helplessness and displays the lack of will to take control of her own life which is so often found in the insane and/or suicidal. Galloway makes extremely skilled use of innovative page layouts and even unexpected graphics to really show us her character's imbalanced view of the world. We see through her eyes.

An amazing noveloffering insight regarding female depression
Galloway's novel about the depression and life of a middle-aged, female drama teacher living in Scotland, is captivating and insightful. Galloway uses snapshots from Joy's memory as well as emotion filled diction to create a fictional novel with a lasting effect and unique style. This first person narritive, written from the point of view of Joy Stone, a female battleing a depression over the death of her lover. "Sometimes things get worse before they get better. Sometimes they just get worse. Sometimes all that happens is passing time...The whole point is that time passes. That things fade" (Galloway, The Trick is To Keep Breathing). The novel tracks Joy during a year of her depression and gives a more personal understanding of the world of female depression.

Painful, but So Beautiful
This novel is painful to read because Janice Galloway's descriptions of Joy Stone's feelings and experiences are so accurate. We've all felt the way Joy feels at some time or another. The accuracy is so startling that at times it's tempting to forget that this is fiction, and not a non-fiction depression narrative, like "The Beast" or "Girl, Interrupted." Perhaps this is why Galloway added the subtitle, "A Novel." This novel is truly inspiring; it's refreshing to read a novel about depression which maintains a sense of humor. Galloway uses a number of unusual narrative techniques, including spontaneously breaking into dialogues when she's on the phone or talking to doctors, and putting comments in the margins to represent the thoughts that we all have, but don't always acknowledge, even to ourselves. This is a novel I'm sure I'll go back to again and again, because even though the subject matter is depressing and painful, this novel is so beautifully written and the ending is uplifting. This novel will be with me for quite some time.

Great Hometown Loving
Cara Lynn Garrett has fell in love with a man she has only know for a couple days. She tries to forget about him, but she cannot. She meets Jordan Davidson, her father's neighbor in the small town of Shelbyville, Kentucky where she grew up. Cara Lynn's thoughts were always on this stud.

Jordan Davidson was a simple man that had a successful construction company. He meets Cara Lynn when she comes to check out a stray dog he had in his home. He finds himself attracted to this young woman after only knowing her for a short time.

Each had issues they needed to resolve and a first it didn't seem like they were going to come together. They had alot of interference from a man named Evan Fitzgerald, who wanted Cara Lynn for himself.

The secondary characters and romances in this story were really good and made the book come together. It was a well written book, but what would you expect from Ms. Sims.

Fantastic!
I am in the process of reading all of Janice Sims books and I must ssy that this is one of her best ones. The character of Cara Lynn was well written. You really understood what she was going through. Throughout the book Cara Lynn had alot of things that she she had to deal with and the main thing was to open up and face her fears so that she could express love. Jordan was the man to die for, hard working and just fine. Love was expressed all throughout this book. Everyone will truly enjoy this book.

An on the edge of your seat page turner
I think Affair of the Heart is one of Janice Sims best works, yet.I have read this book four times so far.It not only has hot, romance scenes;Affair of the Heart has humor and a storyline any true author would die for. If you have not read this book,I ask that you do.I,for one, am looking foward to reading more of Janice Sims's natural talent.

What a thriller!!
Wow, this book was so intriging, I read it all in one sitting! I couldn't put it down. I was laughing out loud one chapter and bawling the next. If you like suspense, romance, humor, and a little insanity; this book is for you!

SHOCKER !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Impressive! Janice Hunt delivers an action packed story involving writing, relationships, and of all things the IRS. Very emotional writing. You will be laughing out loud, crying, falling in love, grieving hopelessly, and basking in triumph. The information in this book is very informative and overwhelming. Where has this one been hiding? The IRS has long been an untouchable organization and feared by many until now. Janice Hunt displays real courage writing about this subject. This author can see the light and knows how it should be and makes an unforgettable stab at justice. You will not forget this one!

It is to your advantage to read this book!
This book is incredible. Everyone in America and who must deal with the Internal revenue service must read this book. It is to your advantage to educate yourself and know what you are dealing with. Not only is this book Informative, it is extremly entertaining. I was surprised to read that this is Janice Hunt's first novel. I completely fell in love with the characters. I laughed and cried out loud. From the sixth chapter on I couldn't put the book down. It is such a psychological thriller that it should be made into a movie, that is if Hollywood would be able to touch it with a ten foot poll! Do yourself a favor and read this book!

Uplifting and informative
I thought this book was wonderfully uplifting. Ms. Connell gave a lot of information on the background of each vision. This book will certainly bring you closing in your search for deeper union with our Blessed Mother.

You will be joyful you read it!
You will no doubt fall in love deeper with Our lady and pass this treasure amongst others - or that is you should!

Meetings With Mary: Visions of the Blessed Mother
What an extraordinary book! After reading, I'ts DEEPENED my Faith in Mary. At the time I was in the middle of reading the book, I was involed in an automobile accident, this book along with my Rosaries were in my briefcase, she pulled me through the ordeal without any horrendous damage.

Her messages should be loud and clear for all who read with an open heart. She TRULY is here for us, and she shows this through the ones whom SHE chooses to appear. I feel, not only does God work in mysterious way, but Mary too.

Bible for a first time pregnancy
I had three best selling pregnancy books and this one stood above the others!! I refered to it more than the others due to the content being more "facts" rather than the "stories". Any Mom may have her own way of doing things but there are basics that you just can't expect to know based on instinct and this book spells them out in easy to read sections that are well labeled for reference. It's the best and most thorough! A MUST!

This should be the number one pregnancy book!
I found Pregnancy to Parenthood "by accident" in the book store. When I got it home and started reading it, I couldn't believe how wonderful and informative it is. I have to agree with the reviewer who said she'd trade all her pregnancy books for just this one. It gave me more birth information than any of the others. And it is so clear and understandable. Now that my baby is 6 months old, it is still the one I refer to for guidance. The breastfeeding information is the best--so supportive. You can tell that these writers have "been there." I love the great photos and the cartoons too. If you are pregnant, get this one FIRST--you won't need any others!

Very, Very helpful
I got this book beacuse I couldn't find what to Expect when your Expecting and I love it!! It is very helpful. I then got WTE and found that PTP had better information in most places. This book has more Medical information. I found that the other book said See your doctor or try the diet way to often. I would reccommend this book to anyone. I particularly liked the area that talks about how the baby is growing and what is happining to her/him.

Excellent book--excellent meditations
The author has written a wonderful book about all the appearations of "Mother Mary" in a graceful style of daily meditations. I must highly recommend this book. However, what the author should consider is that Mother Mary is actually Mother God (cf Sylvia Browne's books on Journey of the Soul--also totally excellent), and further she states that "Christians do not believe in reincarnation" which is not exactly correct. Gnostic Christians do believe in reincarnation. Edgar Cayce, being a Southern Baptist and Sunday School teacher did not at first believe in reincarnation, but then after numerous meditations to help the hopelessly ill, he could not ignore the fact that our past lives do affect our health and well being. (Edgar Cayce's books are also excellent on theology and heaven). Reincarnation was edited out of the bible by Constatine/Augustine c. 350 BCE because they felt the illiterate masses could not properly understand such a complex doctrine. From a historical point, early Christians did believe in reincarnation and when the 4 gospels of the New Testament were originally written, the disciples and Jesus himself made numerous clear references to reincarnation. (Syliva Brown has a list of these biblical passages in her Journey of the Soul Series, or you can write me direct for them.)

other than these minor corrections, the book is wholly excellent in that it draws one much closer to Mother God in an extremely religiously correct manner explaining the full beauty, grace, love and mercy of God, and that is the whole point of our existence on earth. there is no doubt that Ms. Connell's books have sold well. Mother God is behind her and Mother God loves and protects fiercly those that come to her.

Although Mother God does not care what she is called, it is still best to understand that Mother Mary is Mother God is Mother Earth is Gaia, Diana, Isis, etc. and all the hundreds of names that people have called this most gracious, full of love apparation throughout the long milleniums of our existence.

She is there, She loves us and She cares.

Read the book, see Her grace and glory

How to Survive On Earth in Spiritual Realms
Queen of Angels, Mary's Answers to Universal Questions is a delightful, simple question and answer way to develop useful spiritual savy. The Daily Applications of Mary's answers really work. I particularly like the Meditation on page 177, in reference to the question: "Spiritual Mother, how shall I plan for the future?" - - After Mary's loving response is the following Meditation: "Little children know they can control little. Wise people know they can control nothing." I find special enlightenment each time I read some part of that book.

Beautiful and touching
I was given this book by my mother after something extremely traumatic and devastating happened to me. There is a wealth of comfort and beauty in this golden book. Love permeates the pages, healing and gentle. I would give it as a gift to anyone who needs hope, or just as a message of love.

A beautiful, sad story
I loved this little book the first time I read it a few years ago. It's the sad, true story of William and Janice Burns and their struggle with AIDS. Janice tells her heartbreaking story in a clear, honest voice and there is little window dressing on the tragedy of this tale. It's so easy to identify with the Burns, they are so like anyone you would have gone to college with. I'm sad to learn of Janice's death, but I'm glad her mother has posted on here. Janice's words have touched many lives, far more than many other more superficial things in life.

A wonderful book.
Sarah's Song is a wonderful book that takes you on the journey of a newly married couple's discovery of their HIV infection and the struggles they live through as they battle it. There is a bit of all of us in this couple. They could have been any of us or our friends. Their story will make you cry many times. It is told intelligently and with wit and courage.I read the book in 1996 and always wondered how Janice was doing. I see by her mothers' comments above that she did not survive. I had hoped she would. Get snuggled in bed, grab some tissues and hot tea and make an evening of this book. When you are done take a look at your life and count your blessings.

Beautifully written by my daughter
I want to thank those readers of my late daughter's book for their comments. To those who might not know, Janice died on Sept.28,1996. She had received transfusions in July and contracte Hepatitis C. She was no longer strong enough to fight off the infection. She was brave and hopeful to the end.

A Lucid Account of Lucid Dreaming
Lucid dreaming first came to my attention when it formed the basis of a story in - where else - an episode of Star Trek: Voyager. I had heard the term before but hadn't understood what it meant. Subsequently, an arch-skeptic of my acquaintance called for support in a debate he was having with the members of an Internet newsgroup called alt.out-of-body.

I lurked for a while before joining in the discussion and was surprised to find a group of people were reporting out-of-body experiences and lucid dreaming, some on a regular basis. Although I felt that a number of the explanations being offered were rather fanciful, the reports of the experiences themselves seemed genuine. This was fascinating because it meant that a part of the human population were having dream, or dream-like, experiences that others like myself had never known.

I was curious to read more, so I ordered it forthwith via the Internet.

This is a substantial tome which, in paperback, runs to nearly 350 pages, if you include the detailed annotation, extensive bibliography and index, which are the proper appendices of any work which aspires to scientific credibility.

I mention scientific credibility because, unlike some of what is written about this subject, the authors have adhered to the ideal of scientific objectivity. Although written for a lay audience, they examine the research and thinking in this field in considerable detail, and they have been scrupulously fair in giving the various theories due and proper consideration, even those that some might consider more speculative.

In one aspect, though, they have a considerable advantage over other researchers: they have experienced lucid dreams and OBEs themselves.

The human mind and/or brain has been described as the most complex object in the known universe. Imagine trying to discover how a computer works from scratch: there is no manual, no help files and, initially, no knowledge of what it is made from and how it is powered. Even worse, it is associated with baffling phenomena such as consciousness. Imagine how much of a help it would be if you could think as a computer thinks, if you could learn about it from the inside, as it were.

This is especially true of an inaccessible phenomenon like dreaming, the activity of the conscious mind while the body is asleep. Janice and Jay are, therefore, in the rare and privileged position, for scientists, of being able to observe and experiment on themselves, of having a more intimate acquaintance with their subject-matter than is afforded to most researchers.

They have put this insight to the best possible use in this book, which I would recommend as the first choice for anyone who wants to learn more about lucid dreaming, and I can only endorse the words of one of the foremost researchers in this field, J Allan Hobson, when he writes in the Foreword:

"Brooks and Vogelsong are true scientists in both their adherence to value-free description and their state-of-the-art interpretation of their data.

The Conscious Exploration of Dreaming is a healthy antidote to the abundant New Age hyperbole on this important and serious subject."

An excellent naturalized approach to dreaming.
In the naturalistic tradition of Hobson, Crick and Flanagan, the authors tackle dream formation and "lucid" control with an intelligence and style that is refreshing amid today's cacaphony of hype and varying agendas. In probably the best lay exposition of REM sleep since Dick McLeester's WECOME TO THE MAGIC THEATRE in 1976, these amateur dream explorers map the terrain of the sleeping brain with an excellence worthy of the prizes given to the best sanctioned "academic" publications. The book is as good in its specialized area as Steve Pinker's was to the mind in general in HOW THE MIND WORKS.

As in McLeester's book, THE CONSCIOUS EXPLORATION OF DREAMING takes a balanced and fair approach to lucid dream potentialities and dream control, demonstrating that we always control our dreams to some extent through suggestion and that control and dream behavior are highly customized to each dream individual scenario.

The book is largely anti-psychoanalytical and attemps to show that rather than constituting symbolic distortions or affective resolutions, dreams simply are build-as-you go situations which we create in response to random brain activation. There is an existential "throwness" element to them; we are suddenly in Act II without an Act I. If we dream of panicing during a school exam, it's because we actaully "haven't" prepared for the test and we should panic, given the situation. No need to involve the Id and Superego in explaining the story.

I've been researching dreams and lucid dreams for over thirty tears, and this is surely one of the best tracts on the subject that I have seen in that time. Highly recommended.

Based on personal experiments and research.
Most books about Lucid Dreams are found in the New Age section of the book store. If this has stopped you from exploring the fascinating world of Lucid Dreaming then I highly recommend The Conscious Exploration of Dreaming. Janice and Jay Volgelsong have written a voluminous book about Lucid Dreams. They examine popular scientific and occult theory with a critical eye. Heavily referenced, their book is grounded in their own personal research, experience and observation. If you have been curious about where dreams come from you will find satisfying answers in their book.
