The Lost Diaries of Iris Weed

Psychological mystery at its best
At a highly regarded Connecticut university, Professor Jason "Lars" Larson teaches literature. Because of his antics in the classroom, students enjoy Lars' classes and anyone fortunate to attend his seminars is considered lucky. Some of the prettier females go so far as to share a bit more than just his professional time. Because she believes he loves her, Lars' spouse Emma quietly accepts his trysts and the emotional ups and downs of his extracurricular activities.

However, Emma begins having doubts about Lars feelings when Iris Weed becomes his latest student involvement though she rejects his advances. Iris has obtained Lars' permission to write a journal about living in a truck with no other modern convenience. However, Lars feels like a moth to Iris' flame as her élan pull him into her sphere. When someone murders Iris, Lars hides her diary from the police. Though it can help capture her murderer, it provides insight into the darker elements of the charming Lit Professor that Lars prefers buried for now even if the police feel he committed homicide.

If you have not read a Janice Law novel, you are missing out on one of the better writers of psychological mystery on the market today. The story line allows the audience to get inside the heads of the key cast members so that each individual is quite understandable on how they behave following the homicide. This deep character development enables the powerful plot to gain incredible speed and suspense until the tale is finished. THE LOST DIARIES OF IRIS WEED is another triumph from a strong author.

A great new thriller with a masterful twist for an ending
Janice Law's latest thriller is perhaps her most accomplished to date. As a longtime fan of her Anna Peters series I was prepared for a fast-paced thrill-ride; what I wasn't prepared for is Ms. Law's newfound depth of characterization. Her "hero," Lars, is charmingly odious; and the namesake of the novel isn't entirely what she appears to be. I don't want to give away the central plot twist, but readers who devote 20 pages to this book are in for a nasty shock -- and just wait until the ending. This one would make a great movie.

Great Conclusion to a Fabulous Trilogy
What a fabulous book! I loved this conclusion to the Patton's Daughters trilogy. Janice Johnson is a gifted author who brings these characters to life on the pages of the book. While The Woman in Blue is my favorite of the trilogy, I couldn't help but love this book. It nicely incorporates all the previous characters from the other books into the pages, as well as bring Abby's romance with Ben to life. Buy this book immediately (of course, it wouldn't hurt to order the previous two while you're at it)!

Excellent contemporary romance
In Elk Springs, Oregon, fire inspector Abby Patton investigates the aborted arson of a pick-up truck on a lonely road just outside town. The truck suspiciously looks identical to that owned by her deceased father, a respected police officer. She calls in the license plate and learns that it was stolen from the mother-in-law of Abby's sister. When she sees blood in the inside of the vehicle, Abby calls the sheriff's department. Detective Ben Shea arrives on the scene.

Abby wonders if the truck is a warning message to Abby and her two sisters. Ben agrees that the truck and subsequent incidents appear as if someone seeks vengeance. As he persuades Abby to date him, the incidents turn nastier and more personal. Ben soon realizes that the culprit seeks revenge on the daughters for something their father caused. Ben and Abby fall in love, but not only do they have to contend with an unknown assailant, he must find away to prove to her he is not her abusive father.

The third novel in Janice Kay Johnson's Patton's Daughters retains the freshness of the two previous tales while establishing a freshness that is uniquely due to Abby. The story line is exciting as incidents parallel events from the other two books and Ed's personality comes into greater focus. Ben is a beautiful person whose patience will make him a hero to readers. A MESSAGE FOR ABBY is an entertaining novel with a message that how the child is nurtured impacts how the adult behaves.

A near-perfect historical instrument method
This is one of the best method books I've seen for a historical instrument. Every essential topic is covered: tuning, intonation, articulation, fingering, baroque & classical ornamentation (fingering for trills off of each note, for instance). Period sources (notably Quantz, plus several others) are quoted frequently. There is also a good discussion on the differences between different historical models. Plus there is a wealth of exercises and tunes from the period. While not pretending to be complete in every sense, this is far superior to many methods I've seen for recorder and other instruments. It's also quite affordable.

Jan has written a clear, concise yet very complete book.
The book has great instruction at your fingertips to start learning the one-keyed flute. There is so much here! But it's not bogged down with copious trivia. This book is especially helpful for the Boehm flutist who wishes to transition into some baroque flute playing. When you purchase this volume, you'll have everything you need (apart from the instrument itself!) to get started, and also to avoid injury to your hands and fingers through incorrect position or over-practicing. Wonderful, sound advice clearly presented.

One of my favorite books of the year!
I grew up in the city, I was very moved by the explanation and discription of the Appalachian mountains, life styles, and cultures. This was a very moving story about excepting and loving other persons and their differences.

One of the most engrossing books I have ever read!
"Miss Willie" is a delightful story about a school teacher who moves from a big city to a very small community in the hills of Kentucky. Easy to read, this book kept me spell bound until I finished it. A real treat for readers of all ages

Great book for children of parents who miscarry
I bought this book in anticipation of the day when our little girl will ask who is the "other" baby on our wall. Although the book is a little long and she will need to be 3 or 4 to understand it, I think it will be a great help to us when it time to explain about her lost brother.

"Molly's Rosebush" helped explain miscarriage to our son
The first time I read this book, I knew it was going to be a world of help in explaining our miscarriage to our son. The story is very gentle, very sweet, and involves not just the mother and older child, but her father and grandmother too. There are several analogies in the book that help explain the "why" of miscarriage to a young child. It is a sensitive, beautifully written story. The foreward for adults at the beginnig is also wonderful. I would recommend it for any family who encounters the need to explain a miscarriage to a child.

Some really wonderful and healthy ideas!
I took this book out of the library and was pleasantly surprised! In the past I have found that beauty recipes can be challenging. With this book the ingredients are accesible and the recipes aren't difficult to make. I have started copying out recipes to try and will add this book to my christmas list!

More than I ever imagined
I loved the other two books a lot. When I bought this book, I was hesitant that there could possibly be much more that Janice could show me... Was I wrong? YES! Filled with loads of information and wonderful recipes and how-tos this book doesn't even reach the bookshelf, I keep it so handy! Great job Janice Cox!

It's Great!
I am a health care worker in Amherst, Massachusetts with an interest from childhood in Greek and Roman art. It is a pleasure to recommend Ruthie Knapp and Janice Lehmberg's sparkling museum guide, Greek and Roman Art. This delightfully written work is a perfect guide to the classical collection of any museum, and brings the culture of the ancient world alive for adults and children alike. A wonderful resource indeed!

Greek and Roman Art-Off the Wall Museum Guides for Kids
This book is a wonderful guide for all members of the family to use when seeing Greek and Roman art. Although the purpose of the book is to help children enjoy a museum visit, anyone can profit from advice to limit oneself to short museum visits which concentrate on a few objects, rather than trying to stuff the whole museum into one's head in one session. The authors have lots of other good sense suggestions about museum visiting in general.

The format of this short and handy book is most inviting: bright colors, lively illustrations, witty language, interesting facts. The facts are given in words which the reader will find easy to remember. The whole book is peppered with entertaining surprises.

The authors clearly explain to the reader the basics about Greek and Roman art, and how to see differences between them.

I would heartily recommend this small but potent guide to persons of any age who will be visiting collections of Greek and Roman art.
