Blissful
In this comic, ironic tale, Babette Bliss guides us on a totally enjoyable journey through the domestic and artistic pathways of Manhattan, circa 1993. Check out the noise band called Mild Neurosis, and other maddeningly familiar urban icons. --Thaddeus Rutkowski, author of Roughhouse

Very enjoyable
Clever, funny, and well written. Like her short stories, and maybe even better.

powerful character study
Recovering from a miscarriage, Florida reporter Leslie Austin starts recalling people and places that seem so real yet has no seeming link to her. Feeling haunted by the strange fleeting memories, Leslie becomes shook to her core when she reads a wire story on the twenty-fifth anniversary of the unsolved Connecticut abduction of three years old Ruth Eden.

Leslie begins questioning why she remembers nothing before her fifth birthday and why she has no photos of her pre-school self or for that matter her parents whom her Aunt Flo and Uncle Mac insisted were dead. Leslie confronts her widowed aunt who reluctantly confesses that her mentally ill brother abducted a young child and gave the girl to them to raise. Believing she must be Ruth Eden, Leslie locates her biological father who explains that he believed her mother cheated on him so he sexually assaulted her. When Ruth was born, her mother went into a deep depression that turned worse when the child was kidnapped. Leslie wonders who is her dad?

Though the mystery of who is Leslie is well written and will hook the audience, the theme of VOICES is much deeper as the audience receives a powerful character study focusing on Leslie whose life is based on an initial lie. The prime protagonist knows that she was raised in love by her "aunt" and "uncle", but upon learning how the hiding of her past sent her down a different path, she forsakes her trust in people. Janice Law is at her best in this tale in which the first domino is ignored with the push starting at the second tile.

A fine, meditative thriller
Another excellent work by Janice Law that will surely delight her legion of fans. Oddly enough, this was Law's first book, written before The Big Payoff (Houghton Mifflin; now available through iuniverse) was published in 1976. It sat in the author's drawer until Forge Press got fine reviews for what may still stand as the author's best work, The Lost Diaries of Iris Weed (Forge), and as is with such things, all of a sudden Law had a buyer.

Continuing the author's fascination with memory and "quiet" cases -- such as the disappearance The Night Bus (Forge) was based upon -- this is a thriller that slowly builds to a tight crescendo. Don't look for bold thrills or techno-angst; this story, like many that take place in Law's novels, is one that delights in its subtlety and suckers the reader in until the awful truth is finally revealed.

Small details will delight knowing Law fans: As some know, she went to college in Syracuse, NY in the 1960s and of course makes her current home in rural Connecticut (she is a professor at the University of Connecticut, though Googlers should be told that "Janice Law" is something of a wry nom de plume) where a number of her books have been set.

An excellent educational book . Must for all parents
Using this book in our family provided the development of an excellent foundation to develop trust with our children. Children are aware of the special nature of parents reading stories to kids. Many parents and guardians find this a difficult subject to talk freely about. Using the story telling approach neutralises any apprehensions parents or children may have. Ruth has used questioning from the children to their parents on different things and this encourages children to ask questions. The environment of story reading and the ease at which questions arise and are answered by parents is brilliant. God's involvement in the process lets children know how special they are.

Congratulations Ruth

The Best Book on the Market for this Subject!
I was looking for a book for my 8-year-old that was to the point, descriptive (but in good taste), and informative about where babies come from. Not only did this book fit the bill, but it is also written with a God-based text which I really appreciated.

There is a storyline with a 7-year-old asking questions of her mother and father and it covers topics such as: physical differences between men and women with anatomical names, how married people show their love for each other, how fertilization occurs, how women and men help in raising children. It also briefly touches on adoption, breastfeeding, and other related topics.

An excellent choice for opening up the lines of communication on this sensitive subject with your children!

Best Romance of the Year!
What a fabulous book! I couldn't put it down for even a second. If you want a great book to read, this is just what you've been looking for. The story is about two people Lynn and Adam who discover that the hospital made a mistake several years ago and mixed up their babies. Now,these two strangers are going to get married. This is really a great book, and I would recommend it to anyone.

An Original Concept!
This book is based on the case of babies being switched at the hospital - a terrifying thought for most parents. This concept is original and was well done indeed. I very much enjoyed this book and so did my brother.

Something for everyone
This book has it all, an intriguing mystery, a satsifying romance, and well-researched and accurate historical detail. A must-read for anyone who enjoys a well-written book.

From These Islands
I am one of two surviving members of a pioneer family, the Carmichaels, that are still living on the Queen Charlotte Islands. My grandparents were the first white people married at Sandspit just after the turn of the century. My mother, aunts and uncles were born at Aliford Bay. Both these places are on South Morseby Island, part of the Queen Charlotte Archipelago. Today, I live on Graham Island.

It was with great interest that I read Janice Kay Johnson's book, Winter of the Raven. Her capture of the sense of these islands parallels well with stories that I grew up with as a child that were about Haida peoples and the early settlers of these islands. Her recall of history is extraordinarily accurate. Also, her geographical observations are near perfect. Mixed with the fiction in this book it is an excellent read, one that I highly recommend to anyone intersted in the Queen Charlotte Islands, the Haida peoples and the history of both.

It has been a very long time since I have read a book that I didn't want to see come to an end!

To Ms Johnson: I hope that there are more wonderful books to come from you in the future! You are a superb writer!

It could happen to anyone - Very highly recommended
Detective Connor McLean caused more emotional turmoil for her than any one else in her life ever had. When he and a social worker unexpectedly knock at Mariah Stavig's door, accusing her husband of raping a small child, the doubts the detective left in his wake ended Mariah's marriage. The small child's words forever destroyed Mariah's belief in her husband. Without proof, the case was dropped. Following their divorce, Mariah cannot prevent her ex-husband exercising of his visitation rights. Although her daughter never exhibits any signs of abuse, Mariah remains emotionally torn even three years later. On one hand, she fears the detective was right and her daughter's in danger. On the other hand, she fears the detective was wrong, and she betrayed her husband.

When a student confines her sexual abuse as the hands of a fellow teacher, Mariah must fulfill her legal obligation to report the incident. Unfortunately, Detective McLean is assigned to the case, bringing back all those terrible days of fear and betrayal. As they work together to help the student, Mariah finds herself inexplicably drawn to the man she's blamed for the end of her marriage. Connor likewise feels many misgivings; even as he's drawn to Mariah, he also feels guilty. He's come to feel as though it's his role in life to destroy families, and he's beginning to consider making far-reaching career changes. Such deep self-evaluation makes completing his assigned task even more complicated. Worse, while he believes the student's been raped, he doesn't believe she's truthfully identified the perpetrator.

Author Janice Kay Johnson takes on a hard-hitting plot with grace in THE WORLD OF A CHILD. Never backing away form the most difficult and painful aspects of her plot, she also approaches the topic of childhood rape with sensitivity and insight. While a strange background to create for a love story, this subject with all its different aspects successfully furthers the plot, deepens the characterizations, and leaves the romance lover richly satisfied. These are believable characters that demonstrate admirable growth and sensitivity. Remarkable in scope, beautifully realized with plot and characterizations, THE WORLD OF A CHILD comes very highly recommended.

Fabulous Novel by Janice Kay Johnson!!
On an ordinary day, in an ordinary neighborhood, a knock on the door of an ordinary house leads to an extraordinary revelation.

Detective Conner McLean is the man who came to call, carrying with him a child's accusation. Conner's visit ended Mariah Stavig's marriage and left her a struggling single mother. Three years later, the word of another child brings Conner back into Mariah's life.

Conner knows his investigations can ruin as much as they fix, but he has no choice. He has sworn to speak for the innocent and seek justice for the victims. And now, to do his job, he has to have Mariah's help--no matter how much she hates him.

Part of the 3 Good Cops triology (also look for His Partner's Wife and Maternal Instinct), this is a great book that easily stands alone. It deals with some very difficult subject matter in a deft and touching way. The romance is real, with actual characters who struggle with many of the same emotions that we deal with everyday. By far one of Johnson's best.

Two entertaining stories
Missing Molly, a new story by Janice Kay Johnson has all the flair, competence and good storytelling we've come to expect.

The Mesage, a reissue from Stella Cameron, has heart, characters with determination, a good dose of mystery and a love story to remember.

Janice Kay Johnson's Novel is Emotional and Engaging
The first novel in this volume is an early Stella Cameron, and it reads like one. The story is enjoyable, but it is a bit of a mish mash of motivations, plots, characters, etc. One can tell just by reading that Cameron was still figuring out her style while writing.

But the second novel by Janice Kay Johnson makes this collection a must-read/must-buy! This is a brand-new story by this Four-time RITA Award finalist, and it is one of her best. Missing Molly is an poignant, emotional journey from page one. Johnson creates characters that read like real people with real problems. You'll be rooting for them all by the end and completely forget that there're fictional!! The romance is sweet and moving, and the secondary characters are just as engaging as the hero and heroine.

I urge you to buy this book today. It is an entralling read, thanks to Johnson's contribution!!

The ABCs of Violin for the Absolute Beginner: Bk1

Great for the Adult Beginner!
Janice T. Rhoda is a graduate of the New England Conservatory, a trained Suzuki teacher, and has taught adult beginner classes. I am a current student of hers, and am energized by her enthusiasm for teaching. She has developed this series to coordinate with Suzuki methods and to provide immediate reinforcement for students by playing recognizable melodies that also teach fingerings, bowing, and musical notation. Even though I was a very proficient violinist before taking a 20-year break from playing, I have not been bored working through this book with Janice to redevelop my musical skills. This is book one of an on-going series which includes more advanced books, easy piano accompaniments for them, and forthcoming drill books for further study. If you are a violin (or viola - books also coming) teacher or know one, you really should look at this series!
