A wonderful tome by Janice Emily Bowers. These essays combine gardening, ecology and self reflection with a wonderful use of vocabulary. Thoroughly enjoyable; definitely not a one-read book!

Back to the Days of Yesteryear
I was fortunate enough to have a Mom who bought this book. She loaned it to me and told me I would not only LOVE it, but would not want to give it back. She was right!! It is unlike any cookbook I have ever seen. Although there are recipes in the book, the main focus is on the stories that accompany the recipes. They are heartwarming, thought provoking, and in the case of one story I think of, even a bit sad. If you are older then 45, I would say you have lived some of the events in the book. If you are younger, well, you can learn allot about the way it used to be back before society almost mandated "Mom" to work outside the home. There are wonderful places, times, and people told about in this book. At the end of each story, there are recipes that you may not find anywhere else. For instance, LUMBERJACK BEANS accompanied a humorous and very interesting story of a couple who worked in a lumber camp during the depression. And how about SALT PORK CAKE? Not a usual find in a cook book, I am sure. But, it goes along with a short story about a person's remembrances and heritage, along with four other recipes. I found that I re-read most of the stories, wanting to savor the times, aroma, thoughts, and feelings that each one gave to me. Each story is different, with it's own feel. But each one is an event of the mind. They give insight to a world that, sadly enough, has almost disappeared from our lives. This book is fantastic fun! It can recapture some of what has been lost with progress. Try it. You'll like it!!

A wonderful introduction.
My parents had a collection of religious books for the kids to read at church when we were very young. I remember loving the small books and the individual stories. I credit these books with my firm foundation of biblical events and stories compared to so many other children who grew up in the confusing 1970s. When my sister gave The Good Samaritan, to my daughter (her goddaughter) as a baptismal present I was elated. The pictures are lovely, and of course the story is timeless. The phrasing is all in rhyme, which I found to be a bit hokey, but my daughter loves the rhythm. When I come into the room, I often find that she's picked this book or another from the same collection and is excitedly reading (or pretending to read). This book, and other Arch books, are essentials in every Christian home. They are fun and simple introductions to the bible.

The most useful book for care plans and practice.
The detailed nursing implications of each drug make the monitoring of patient care for side effects and interactions more reliable and complete. The listing of interactions with other medications is a valuable tool. This book explains in nursing language the physiological action and use, gives details of adverse reactions and what to look for, as well as drug absorption and interference with diagnostic tests. A valuable tool for care planning and client teaching.

Exactly right!
For the past two years the Montessori preschool where I am a volunteer has placed this book on display in October. What a wonderful book for 4-year-olds! The illustrations are a pleasure and add their own content to the story. It happens that the families are Afro-American, and an adult reader might conclude that Tommy is being raised by a single parent, but neither of these circumstances is central to the book, which is about adults looking after their children in matter-of-fact, but nurturing ways. You can't finish this without a smile, and you'll not object to reading it aloud as often as a young child would consider necessary.

Very Imformative!
I found this book to be greatly helpful as a quick reference to get a second opinion on my findings with patients. I enjoy doing my own research for an answer than always having to ask for help and this book is a good way for me to refresh my knowledge and help take my eduation to the next level as I learn something new every time I pick it up. I recommend it to anyone.

Okay. This book's famous because it's Liefeld's first. Don't let that fool you. It's really an symbolic take on the good ol' USA, and where we're going with it.
