Great book for to research genealogy or local history. It's even a great book just to curl up with! The writer did an excellent job! I would love to hear more from her!

Old Busirla Grounds of New Jersey: A Guide
This book is an excellent resource for not only finding the old burial grounds in NJ but the explanations of the different funerary art and customs that Janet Sarapin details along with the approriate pictures as a pictorial guide. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who desires to know more about the old burial grounds and their history. These old burial grounds are also a living history of our country.

Forty + Ten= You Must Read This!
I wasted time attempting to find the book at a retailer and the local library (so I eventually bought it used through Amazon.com). What a read! The author, a pschyiatrist schooled in Jungian theory, shares (and analyzes) numerous "Middle Tales" (as opposed to fairy or elder tales). Middle tales desribe life beyond the "...and they lived happily ever after" of fairy tales. The "ah-ha" quoitient, especially for those of us who are living the "middle years", is close to 100! Dr. Chinen's insights bring one closer to the belief that there is a collective unconscious. (Or Not!) Definitely worth the search.

An Insightful and Provoking Look at the Middle Years
Chinen brings insight into the middle years of life with his delightful look at fairy tales from around the world that focus on the middle years. The simple tales are rich with psychological meaning and demonstrate the psychological tasks that must be achieved in the middle years to provide a sense of well being and balance. Move over Snow White and youthful princes--there is life after the hero!

this is really helpful
since i have just started pointe this book has really helped me break in my shoes and give me really good excercises to stregthen my ankles. one of the people in this book is my ballet teacher so that is even better. if u have just started pointe or have been on it for a while or even if u dont do pointe this book is really interesting and helpful.

This is the most thorough and informative book on pointe!
When I first learned pointe, I studied at two different dance schools. My instructor at each school gave a short lecture on the foot and pointe dancing in general, and the majority of their presentations came from "The Pointe Book". I quickly went out and bought it and now as a teacher myself, I require my students to get and read "The Pointe Book". I have not found any other work to be as thorough and informative -- who knew that so much was involved in a pair of shoes?! If a student only reads part of the book, I would recommend the chapters on proper pointe shoe fitting and pointe-related injuries. The chapter laying out a sample pointe class has come in handy for some of my beginning work with students and also provides them with exercises to do on their own. My favorite chapter, though, would have to be Conversations on Pointe, which has pointe stories from many well-known dancers. It was great knowing that some of my opinions and experiences are also shared by some of the greats! Janice Barringer and Sarah Schlesinger have done all of us dancers a great favor with "The Pointe Book".

powerhouse of prayers for spiritual enlightenment
I use this book at least one hour each day. It is filled with Scripture, with stories of great people who knew God well and changed the world because of that relationship. I particularly like the prayer of William Penn: "....lift me up strong Son of God that I may see more clearly against the horizon of your ways, and not just the limitations of my own appetities and cravings." A treasure of universal prayers, especially the chapters: Prayer Power for Families, and Prayer Power with the Angels.

Truly Inspirational
This book is a must read for anybody who wants to discover the power of prayer.

When things aren't going well
I find this book to be a great book to keep by my bed when I am troubled. I found a copy of it in my father's belongings when he was dying. Now I read it when I have troubles in my marriage, with my children or at work. I find the tone of the book very soothing.

The ultimate birthday present: THE GIFT OF BEAUTY!
This precious prayer book is of the caliber of beauty of the Cistine Chapel! Page after page of beauty within words. Prayers to help, prayers to heal, prayers to hearten one to hope, all catalogued in great detail on the title page for easy reference. This prayer book, though it looks delicate, penetrates through to the core. Its power resides in the strength of the beautiful prayers and how they are explained by the author. She draws the reader in and suddenly the reader is praying the prayers...while reading the book! The greatness of this book is its overwhealmingly powerful prayers and how they are presented. This book will be a treasure generation after generation.

This book helps
WOW, this book is incredible. Thank you for writing this, and for honoring Vietnam veterans. For years, I had to hide the fact I was there, and this book has helped me to be proud to be a Vietnam vet. The stories are moving in so many ways, and the portraits draw you right into the eyes and hearts of the vets. I think anyone who is a Vietnam vet, or even families, friends, wives and ex-wives of vets, should read this book. If you know a vet, give him.her this book. It helps them and you to understand.

An excellent, healing, beautiful book
Jan Goff-Lafontaine has produced a wonderful, remarkable, healing book. Photographs of 50 plus people who were there-from combat veterans to Red Cross workers and everything in be-tween-are accompanied by reflections about the costs of war in the words of each person. Jan's Vietnam veteran husband got PTSD after the Loma Prieta earthquake [subsequent trauma often triggers PTSD reactions]. She didn't understand so she started talking to other vets, and to quote her, "My heart opened, and I knew these were stories that had to be heard by others. I wanted these experiences to be in a book so that everyone could know the struggles, the courage, and the triumphs of Vietnam vets, and realize the personal toll of war." Me, too. It's a great book. Reflections Between the Lines moved me to tears in a lot of places, something that I consider a healing quality. It also made me laugh out loud. I had trouble putting the book down. Her subtitle is "The Healing of the Vietnam Generation," and this is one of the ways we heal, telling our stories.

Must Reading for Health Care Executives
This book is essential reading for any leader in the world of health care. Health care execs are confronted with complex, highly charged negotiation challenges, internal and external, nearly every day. Many of these conflicts can damage lives and corporate finances. The book gives you very practical, results-oriented advice on how to resolve conflicts and move forward.

Dr. Marcus is the nation's leading expert in health care negotiations and conflict resolution, having helped numerous high-profile organizations overcome conflicts and reach mutually productive agreements. This book thoughtfully conveys this valuable expertise.

Excellent principles for conflict resolution
Marcus presents a broad spectrum of options for getting through tough times in the healthcare industry. The personable style and ongoing case history make this a very readable presentation.

Marcus teaches us that conflict is not only always present and unavoidable but can be used as a catalyst for good change. He describes differences in types of negotiation, mediation, and arbitration. He is a proponent of interest-based negotiation which is an attempt to improve the lot of the whole by improving the parts. He advocates active listening.

As witness to his sincerity, he dedicates a chapter each to four of the healthcare stakeholders: policymakers, healthcare management, physicians, and nurses. Each of these chapters speaks loudest to its own stakeholder, at once representing them and persuading them to enter into negotiation.

Postitional bargaining is also explored. Marcus does not advocate being a sacrificial lamb.

This book serves as an excellent introduction to the topic of conflict resolution and negotiation. However, in order to engage into the fray, one would also need to continue to study and practice the principles presented.

Although Marcus seems preachy at times and overhopeful at others, he is at least starting to draw the diverse and strong healthcare industry into one place to sit and talk. Hooray for that.

Sacres Journeys in a Modern World by Rger Housden
This is more for the adults than something I would share with my children. It has some fastinating insights as to how we treat eachother on a daily basis, what we take for granted and what we expect of eachother. I read it twice to be sure and gather all the information in and was surprised at what I had missed the first time around. I have told several of my friends about this book and have perchased it for a close dear one as well. This is a must read for anyone looking for the "self" and thinking it's in far away places. It's only as far as your heart and mind, as far as you allow it to be.

A truly unique book of spiritual quest
For over a period of 30 years this Englishman has "regularly dropped my ordinary routine and gone walkabout in remote and untamed regions of the world, or taken myself off along some pilgrimage route that aims at the heart of one of the world's great spiritual traditions." Because I have been unable and often unwilling to do that, Housden's spiritual quests are as compelling a read as I have found in the "spiritual" book category. From St. Catherine's in the Sinai (one of my favorites) to St. John the Divine cathedral in NYC, his adventures touch the heart, the soul and the funny bone. Read it and give it away to your friends, which is what I did for Christmas.

Wonderful tale of teaching in China
Scaling the Dragon is a wonderful narrative about teaching and living in China. Moulton and Robinson have a colorful writing style that is fully of energy and personality. Their engaging story is informed with their astute observations. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking to go on a delightful literary journey with these two wonderful authors.

Marco Polo Times Two, and Fun Besides
I loved this true adventure story, written by two impossibly inquisitive academics who encounter China during an extended sojourn as teachers there. Janice (Moulton) and Robin (Robinson) move through this adventure like a contemporary Mr. and Mrs.Marco Polo. They know how to tell a story, well-paced, richly detailed, weaving their characters in and out of the exciting narrative. And what characters! Golden Zhou, Little Lin, Adjective Boy, and an interesting supporting cast of Westerners trying to deal with China and each other. As a long-ago Peace Corps Volunteer, I can say that Moulton and Robinson really reveal the drama and adventure of a deep cross-cultural encounter. "Scaling The Dragon" should be on a short-list of books to be read by Peace Corps Volunteers and other Americans preparing for an extended stay in another culture. Better yet, this book could be made into a great movie!

Seventrees the Part of Kansas you didn't know
Three different generations of women that overcome many opstacles, from losing family and friends to almost losing themselves along with their homes and businesses. These women aren't your normal idea of the "regular" woman out in Seventrees, Kansas in the 1800's. This book is the best book that I have ever read. At first I didn't think that I would like it, but it became the #1 book on my list. I don't usually read historical books because they are boring. I could barely put this book down. It just goes to tell you you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover. It made me have a different perspective of HISTORY. "We can't ever go back, Maggie, my love. Too much has happened. But do you think we can go forward together?"(pg.223) This was the quote that changed the whole story. If it wasn't for this sentence the whole story would have been different. I picked this quote to show that one sentence of the book changes the whole book. It set the feeling for the rest of the story, which I loved. I was surprised to hear this sentence and I am glad that I did. There is nothing more that I can say except that I LOVE this book and would recommend it to anyone.

A first-rate historical novel
Seventrees is a wonderful book that tells the saga of three generations of women in the 1800s. Historically it has the facts correct, but the main appeal of this book is its characters. None of these women are saints - they are fully three dimensional and therefore are more interesting. I owned this book until about 8 years ago, when I loaned it to a person who never returned it. So far, I have yet to find another copy. It is a tribute to the lasting impression that this story had on me that I will continue to search until I find it again. This is a great book for young girls to read in that it emphasizes independence in women.
