It's not "Greek" to me anymore.
The cover and title of the book are inviting. The illustrations in the book are outstanding. It is a fun book for all ages, just not 4-8 year olds. This book is a helpful tool to learning and teaching about Greece. I am using the book in my classroom to help my children and myself learn the numbers in Greek and to learn more about Greece. This is a fun number book that not only helps the reader learn the numbers 1-10 in Greek, but the book also gives clear and important information about Greece.

My fiance is from Cyprus, an island off of Greece, and this book has helped me learn more about where he is from. I recommend this book to anyone no matter the age. I found the pronunciation guide at the back of the book and throughout the book, extremely helpful. The text was clear enough for children and adults to understand. I feel this book is inciteful in exploring different cultures. I highly advise teachers to buy this book when studying about different parts of the world. Haskins and Benson also have other counting books for many other countries.

Crow's Eye View: The Infamy of Lee Sang, Korean Poet

Korean Poet Bridges Centuries With Contemporary Poetry
Myong-Hee Kim has worked a fantastic labor of love with her translation of Korean poet Lee Sang.

Though he died at an early age, Sang has achieved respect and admiration for his poetry, which was (and continues to be) as radical as that of the language poets of our own century.

Sang's surreal work is infused with politics and a keen eye on society, bringing forward his search for truth and justice in dire times. Artist Janice Olsen has captured the mood of Sang's poetry in her art works, which beautifully accompany the poems.

Crow's Eye View is a wonderful and exciting collection, as well as a piece of history, as this is the first ever English-language collection of his poems. Surely, this is one not to miss out on!

This is a story about courage found.
When I started this book I couldn't put it down. The plot and the characters draw you in. You feel the Susan's confusion as she is pulled between her time, her brother and all that is familiar and the world of Jared, her soulmate. Is her love for Jared enough for her to brave the danger that threatens Jareds world with distruction? Will it be it enough to let the powers that had her labeled as a freak in her time run free? If you like PSI and magic this book has got it. It is fill of action and is not so boged down with ideas of how the society is run, new tearms and technology, that it loses you as with some novels set in the future. Its also got a healthy dose of romance throwen in. I will be buying the the sequal.

The best fiction I've read in some time
If you're looking for a good summer read, this is it! I could not put it down. The characters caught my interest early on and I wanted to keep reading to find out what happened to Laraine. Take this one to the beach or the pool; a great Victorian bodice ripper.

Terrific mystery
I found myself glued to this book whenever I had a spare minute. Haley McAlister, a psychologist who's an expert in detecting lies, is an intriguing protagonist. The supporting characters are richly drawn, and the plot is well-paced. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a mystery with a dark edge. I hope Janice Kiecolt-Glaser continues the series.

A Jewel of a Book
For a seminary project on older people and spirituality, I fought my way through a dozen almost unreadable sociological studies before encountering this unique, loving book -- the account of the author's two and a half-year study, during the early 1980s, of community life at a downtown LA SRO for older people. Residents were highly individualistic folks from a wide variety of background who nonetheless created community with one another, particularly during crisis times. Anyone studying quality of life issues for older people will want to weigh her findings. It's beautifully written as well.

And the walls came down...
Another incredible mystery novel by J.S. May. This one starts with our heroine, Drusilla (Dilly) jumping out of one potential love triangle into another - all the while seeking out her cousin and confidante, Doro. When Dilly arrives at her cousin's residence in Connecticut, she is shocked to find that not only is her cousin missing, but the house is occupied by two mysterious brothers. May wastes no time in introducing us to the other players in this drama: the Chinese servant, Chang; Chang's mother, Yu-Wei; and the brothers' mother, Mrs. Berkley. May builds a house of cards around Dilly's search for her cousin, Mrs. Berkley's supposed insanity and the family's intimate connection to Chang and his mother. May handles with sensitivity the conflicts surrounding Chang and Yu-Wei's ethnicity and ties these nicely to Dilly's own views and experiences regarding slavery. The walls finally come down in chapter seventeen-- with the secret behind Doro's disappearance revealed to be, above all, about possession; possession of those we view only as objects, and possession of those we are supposed to hold most dear- our family members. I read most of May's other novels together and PURPOSELY put off reading and reviewing this one. The reason: I dreaded not having another of May's mysteries to solve. My first thought was...I am really going to miss these books! And then it hit me, I don't have to miss May's novels. Janis Susan May is not only an exceptional author but one of the finest teachers I have ever encountered. The words in her books will continue to speak to me and other readers - even if May doesn't write another book (let's hope this isn't the case!). With this, as with May's other novels, the real beauty lies not just in solving the mystery but in looking beyond it to see the ways that fate, bravery, and consanguinity play out in all of our lives.

Dietary Management of Food Allergies & Intolerances: A Comprehensive Guide

Food Allergy and Intolerance: An excellent compendium
Dietary Management of Food Allergies & Intolerances by Janice Joneja, PhD, RDN is the most comprehensive book I've read on the topic. The author's credentials as a health care professional are impressive. She is an immunologist, medical microbiologist, and a registered dietitian. Credentials like this, to my knowledge, are very rare.

The book covers every aspect of food allergy & intolerance. It is written for both the health care professional and the lay public. It is well laid out and includes scientific information at the beginning of each of the 37 chapters.

The book contains a comprehensive method to detect culprit foods. It then details the foods you need to avoid and the ones you are allowed (by food group)for each food sensitivity. In other words, if you are sensitive to certain foods, you are given all the information you need to balance your diet using alternative foods.

The chapters on irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and pediatric food allergy were of particular interest to me. The IBS recipes in the appendices are very good. The author's approach to IBS really works! Her theory is to rest the irritated bowel first (no rough foods - let it heal first) and then gradually add foods. You soon know which foods are causing you problems.

The pediatric section gives lots of valuable information on how you can help your baby avoid developing food allergy. It is especially useful if either or both parents have a history of allergy. The author gives a diet for breastfeeding mothers to follow. There is a chart to guide you on which foods to feed your baby at each stage of life (from birth to 2 years).

There are chapters on specific conditions - such as diets for migraine, Crohn's disease, urticaria & angioedima (hives & swelling), attention deficit disorder (ADDH), and eczema. Other chapters include specific methods if you are sensitive to nickel, sulfites, egg, grains, soy, peanut, yeast, molds, milk, lactose, chocolate, fish, shellfish, tyramine, histamine, food coloring agents, salicylates, benzoate, MSG, nitrite, nitrate, and/or butylated hydroxyanisole.

The author advises the reader to consult a physician when using the book.

Dr. Michael Lyon (MD) refers to Dr. Joneja's book in his new book "Healing the Hyperactive Brain" .

I attended an international symposium on Sustainable Medicine at Oxford, UK last year. Dr. Jonathon Brostoff who is the first chair of allergy in a UK medical school and is recognized throughout the medical world as an expert in allergy stated on the lecture podium that Dr. Joneja's book is by far the best ever written on the topic.

Dr. Brostoff highly recommends it. It deserves to become a standard reference text, according to Dr. Brostoff's colleague, Dr. Michael Radcliffe.

I highly recommend Dietary Management of Food Allergies & Intolerances to physicians, dietitians, community health nurses, and to people who suffer from food sensitivities.
