not meant to convert;
This collection of observations, opinions and statistics of Mr. Ulyanov certainly isn't what I expected. Typically such texts are filled to the brim with rhetorical catch-phrases, belligerent ranting towards the bourgeoisie and the wealthy classes, and little else. Here, the cases for Lenin's ideas are very strong, and he later used this to an advantage. Not to mention the way he strung his ideas together; Lenin was perhaps the most intellectual and charismatic of all the Soviet leaders, which is why his image is idealized so often in media. You see him on T-shirt and posters, something he never thought he'd ever end up as; then again he probably never assumed that his body would be stuffed and put on display for 80 years..

a good basic introduction
This is a fine introduction to the thinking of one of the few people in the world who really influenced the tide of history. Along with Leon Trotsky and the Bolshevik Party, Lenin helped establish the first state that was ruled by and for the working class. What went wrong with the revolution is best dealt with by reading Trotsky.

An Outstanding Piece of Work
This book really captures the essence of Lenin's thoughts and philosophy. His most famous piece : "What Is To Be Done?" captures the turmoil that was swirling around socialism during that time and esp in Russia. His theory on the development of the class conscious and importance of professional revolutionaries were amazing and showed the vision that this genius held. It's really sad that someone such as Stalin had to destroy something as pure and just as the work of Lenin, Marx, and true socialism!!

Helps to start each day with our Lord
I highly recommend this daily devotional for every Christian, new or old in the faith. I have bought this every year for the past 4 years. It is a wonderful way to keep a diary and helpful for looking back on to see your growth in our Lord. Each day you start with a passage from the Scriptures and a commentay about it. I do not always agree with the commentaries, but they do make me think about what the Lord is telling me through His Word. I can, also, look back and see how the Lord has helped me through bad times and also, more importantly, see how he has blessed me through them and also through my good times. I have found this a very helpful tool in my Christian growth.

Frank, No Fluff
I am very impressed with this combination of Devotional and Journal. Not many devotional journals have brought me to a point where i immediately see what God is teaching me for the time I'm digging deeper. A wonderful combination of daily insight backed by scripture. A must read book if you are searching for a stronger commitment to God, daily. Very blunt or frank. The author's get right to the heart. The journal portion is made available by wide margins for your thoughts to be written down.

Very "user-friendly" !
Excellent to use as a daily devotional guide. Can start anytime during year. Has "user-friendly" indexes in back that are subject and text indexed.

A Daily Portion
We all need food for physical life and spiritual food for a vigorous spritual life. A daily portion of "Experencing God Day-By-Day" will help feed that soul-life as few devotional books can. The Blackaby father-and-son team know the scriptures well and give great insight and illumination of them to those who delve into this volume. The applications for life made on each page will compel you to ponder the truths from the Bible. I have been blessed in reading it, I pray you will be, too.

Experiencing God and HIs Word!
Truely God-inspired writings. The book begins each day with a quote from the Bible, explains the quote, then shows how each of us can apply this to our everyday lives. The practical material is most touching and insightful.

Highly Recommended
My church family read My Utmost for His Hightest corporately for 1999. I decided for 2000 to buy everyone another devotional that we could read corporately. I chose Experiencing God Day-by-Day. It was a major blessing. Personally and corporately we are experiencing God day-by-day. As I journal I write love letters to God. I feel I have drawn a little closer to God before I close that book. This devotional causes you to look within and come clean with God.

Smash the Offender into the Dirt
As a second degree black belt, I know that it's training that matters. If your attacked, the first few seconds make all the difference. 1400 techniques bring you to the point of knowing the consequences of failure. It may be one technique in grained in your mind and body giving you a chance to escape. It will take every ounce of strength and courage for you to survive. "Fearless", opens your mind to the world of martial arts and street smarts. When two tigers fight one dies. If you learn one thing from this book it should be "Be Aware". Self safety is watching for signals, being aware of your risks, knowing the mind of the predator, and avoiding danger. Paul Danylewich book "Fearless" vividly wakes you up to the dangers on the street and violence that can happen within your home. Awareness means adding lights around your house, organize community watch groups, being assertive in meeting people (get to know at little about everyone new in your community), knowing escape routes to your safe room (reinforcing the structure), entering your home, answering the door, not being liberal in giving out private information on the phone, watching for behavior associated with a violent person, approaching your parked car, forcing bystanders involvement with an attack is underway, not getting out of the car if rearended, not getting out of the car with pulled over if isolated, running in pairs, personal safety on the elevator, taking money out of the atm, awareness about rape, things to watch for when you meet someone new, watching out for male pressure, the myths about rape, the dangers of drinking too much.

Assertive communication is the first line of defense. Offenders are motivated to control their victims. Its your job to prevent them from gaining this control. Strategies include: passive resistence, assertive strategies, manipulation and negotiation, and physical resistence.

After nine years of MA study three fundamental stand out: palm strikes, elbow strike, and eye gouges are devastating. Controlling the offender to the ground puts him in the most vulnerable position possible because he can be stomped to death or permanently maimed. Chokes and submission techniques are effective, but stomps are deadly. Danylewich demostrate a series of physical resistence techniques: basic stances, palm strikes, palm heel, finger claws to the face, eye gouges, groin grab, forearm groin strike, and frontal and back elbow strikes. Groin kicks can sometimes make the opponent madder, instead kick the knee cap. Longer distance weapons are explored, such as, front snap kick, side kick, and back kick. The author effectively illustrates and describes techniques against front and back grabs, chokes, and hugs.

...

A Great Book for Women
This is really a wonderful book on how to protect yourself from violence. The author is really in touch with what women need to learn. FEARLESS is based on the idea that " Knowledge is Power" More women need to realize that they too can learn to recognize how violence can happen to them on a date, on the street, or anywhere else. I saw a terrific mini workshop that the author did at the public library in Cornwall, Ontario - and it was an eye-opener. I think every public, school and college library should have this book available for their female students. I think it can help keep them safe. Half of the book focuses on prevention and awarness strategies, while the later half deals with resistance techniques that are simple and easy to use. Way to Go!! If anyone is interested, I found the authors web-site...

We need to get this type of program in our high school today!!!

A necessity for all women!
A friend of mine lent me this book and I have to say, it is great! It gives so much information on how to prevent assaults! It provides tips on how to recognize a dangerous situation and how to act when confronted with one. I feel more empowered after having read this book. I know I learned things that may make a world of difference in my life!

The Federal Siege At Ruby Ridge: In Our Own Words by Randy &
If you want to know the absolute truth about what happened at "Ruby Ridge" you should buy this book. I thank the Weavers for writing this book. I know it must have been very difficult for them. The story is in their own words. It tells the truth about their life before, during and after the siege. I have no doubt at all whether the facts in this book are true or not. Every American should read this book.

The USA, no Longer Liberty and Justice for all
In my opinion, "The Federal Siege at Ruby Ridge", is an excellent choice to buy, and read. It is comforting to know that what I'm reading is actual truth. I recently completed a research paper on "Ruby Ridge", prior to reading this book, and find it frustrating that the material published in other books is not entirely accurate.
If you want just the facts, mam, just the facts, then this is the book to read. Randy and Sara, in their book, "The Federal Siege at Ruby Ridge", give an accurate chain-of-events description of the events atop, and surrounding "Ruby Ridge." Some of the other authors borrowed from each other, and consequently, they are collectively inaccurate.
After reading and reviewing other sources of material, I found that some of them have conflicting data, and left me wondering, who was right? After reading Randy and Sara's book, I know which way it was. I don't have to be concerned whether the information is reliable, and if the author is credible.
I also believe we, as Americans, owe it to the Weavers to read their book. "Ruby Ridge", the siege at Ruby Creek, and Caribou Ridge, affected all of us, not just the Weavers and Kevin Harris. "The Federal Siege at Ruby Ridge", clearly depicts the actions of the US government officials who were involved in these events, and how Americans, in reality, have no rights.
Unless you have a cast-iron constitution, reading this book will draw you into their feelings, as well as may cause you to feel passion for the injustice that was done to the Weavers and Kevin Harris.

The inside story that TV never tells!
If you want to know how it feels to be set up for a phony arrest and then have your home attacked by a small army of federal police and your wife and boy murdered without warning from ambush by government snipers, read this book. It's the inside story from the victim's perspective. A must read!!!

BEST BOOK EVER
I LIKE FOOD SO MUCH THAT TO KNOW IT ALSO MAKE GOOD MEDICINE MAKE ME SO HAPPY I COULD CRY. ME LIKE THIS BOOK BECAUSE ME LOOK AT THE COVER AND SEE GOOD FOOD ME WANT TO EAT COVER.

SHEDS LIGHT ON INNER ENVIRONMENT AND GERMS A++++
You can always tell really good information that has been found through the true science of research, study and actual use. It withstands the decades of fad diets and medical phases. That is what is offered in this book. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK if you are sick of the non-sense that we are fed everyday through media and orthadox medicine. We are supposedly the most medically advanced species on the earth yet we are the sickest. This book shows us that what is considered normal and healthy in our society, really isn't. It gives great information on the link between diet and disease. It was a relief to read a health book that doesn't rant and rave about how to build the immune system (the current fad in alternative medicine). Obviously building the immune system is not the only key to preventing disease. If everyone followed the advise in this book, companys that prey on our bad health would go out of business.

Still my favorite nutrition book after 25 years
I'm happy to see that this enduring classic is still in print. I wrote about nutrition for the health magazines for years, had all kinds of information at my fingertips, but when it came to my own health, this little book offered the most effective answers. I still go back to the Bieler diet when I need to lose weight, increase my energy, or avoid health problems that seem to be looming on the horizon. A friend of mine was a patient of Dr. Bieler's in the late '60s and reported that the good doctor was healthy, strong, radiant, virile, and working a full schedule into his eighties; apparently he took his own advice. Bieler did his research at about the same time that penicillin was introduced, so his work never got the recognition it deserved. Now, decades later, the public realizes that the so-called miracle drugs have frightening consequences. Bieler shows how to keep your body healthy and free of disease and offers dietary solutions to many ailments. Basics for everyone: No salt, sugar, honey. Have "Bieler Soup" daily: zucchini, green beans, parsley, celery cut up and simmered. These most alkaline veggies balance your system. Read the book for details.

What a nicely done series
My son Joseph loves all the books in this series. Any boy that loves Thomas the Tank will! They are easy to handle for small boys. The pages are durable.

Same good stories, easy to carry around format
As every parent of a Thomas Fan knows, these books would better be durable and easy to carry. This book is an excellent combination of both. The four original stories are accompanied by the original illustrations, and put together in a durable hardcover, easy to carry format.

Just Lovely for Train Lovers
When my 3-yr old takes an interest in something, it usually becomes an all-out obsession: dinosaurs, construction vehicles, space and so it continues with Thomas the Tank Engine. We've read other books and rented videos, but these books (there are four in this series) are his beloved. The stories are simple and plentiful with a bit of a moral to them, without being pretentious or zealous. The writing style is delightful: adult enough not to bore the reader and yet perfectly understandable for the listener (assuming it's a child!). The pictures are clear but not movie or television tie-ins - it makes them more lovable! The books are small and my son loves to stack them and carry them around with him.

If your child loves Thomas and you're tired of media tie-ins, these books are for you!

A long-time favorite of mine
My sister and I recently discussed how we loved this book as young teens. First read it as a Reader's Digest Condensed book. I loved it so much that I've since purchased many of Ms. Cookson's books. She feeds you some history and flavor of another culture, painlessly wrapped in an emotionally gripping tale. Another favorite from her: Feathers In The Fire.

Wonderful Story
As a huge fan of Catherine Cookson, I'd have to say The Dwelling Place is the best I have read so far...and I've read many of her books! Don't miss this story of a young girl's struggle to ovecome the odds at keeping her family together. Her selfless strength of character and integrity throughout this story, as well as the satisfying endings to this and all of her stories, are what make Catherine Cookson's books so wonderful and keep the reader coming back for more! Read The Dwelling Place ~ you won't be disappointed!

My all time favorite
I have read this book for many years. I bring it out once a year to enjoy it. The courage that Cissy had was so unbelievable. I felt like I was right there in the cave.Catherine Cookson 's books make you feel that you are living a part of history Bravo Catherine Cookson.!

An infinite book for "finite" science?
A book you can still dream on.

This was written and rewritten when Victorian erudition was in the making. Some authors in the long series of its well parsed institutional writing would still like to see it continuing in THAT well established tradition.

Alas, the times have changed. Recent anatomy texts are dwarfs not even climbing on the shoulders of the likes of Gray, Braus and Testut. Those authors professed ideals of "seeing through the skin structures", "synmorphy" and "mentally reconstructing the living". Today we do all this with machines...

I stopped reading the huge text linearly at the complicated review of angiogenesis, but still browse dedicated chapters for standard, if somewhat elaborate descriptions. Comprehensive knowledge parsing seems to have lived a fruitful life and then exit the scene to enrich scientific obituaries. But if Gibbon were still an example of style, the fifth star would be added when that clarity, in my view mandatory for monuments, will be eventually reached.

Excellent reference!!
This book is absolutely amazing. It was the required reference text for a gross anatomy class I took in graduate school and it made studying so easy! I used to go through and take notes out of it in order to have a solid base of what I should see when I would dissect. This book also described a lot of the abnormalities and variations that we would regularly see in the human body. A MUST HAVE FOR ANYONE WHO WILL BE STUDYING ANATOMY!!!!!!

A cogent description of the human body.
This book is truly a masterpiece. The writing and layout is good. Descriptions and illustrations are clear and well done. I am not a medical professional and yet I find this book fascinating in its breadth and scope. To better comprehend some of the anatomical structures I first read relevant portions of this book and then go to Netter's Atlas Of Human Anatomy. One point of caution though - get the 38th British Edition. This is by far superior to the American Edition which costs half as much. The extra money spent will be well worth it. After all there is a lifetime of adventure embedded in this volume.

Wonderful book
I love all the fairy books by Andrew Lang (red, orange, olive, crimson, grey, yellow, blue, etc). They are well written, exciting, and captivating. If you like fairy tales at all you must try one of his books.

Fantastic.
"The Grey Fairy Book" is a marvelous collection of tales from Eastern Europe, Africa, and Islamic countries. Once again we get to visit, the horrible, fantastic world of the fairy tale, complete with amazing drawings. These are the *unknown* tales that Disney ignores, but are beautiful in their own right. This is a must have for any collector or anyone who still needs their fairy tales. Who can outgrow these things?

Give the gift of beauty to children
Amazon's rating of the "Reading level: Baby-Preschool" is not correct.

Young people should be exposed to the beauty of good stories and art because it helps them to appreciate the finer thing. This series is a perfect tool to do this.
