Kindergartener favorite
This story is perfect for kindergarteners beginning to read. My daughter had her birthday party at our local ice skating rink. I included this book in her classmates' goody bags and the feedback has been terrific! Her friends loved the story because it mirrored their own first experience at the ice rink. My daughter enjoys reading the story because of its rhyme. There's enough words she recognizes mixed with new words she can sound out, making this a fun book to read as well as a book leaving your new reader feeling very proud of herself by the end!

A wonderful book with an amazing story of hope and love
An amazing story that beautifully illustrates the terrifying moment when we have to face the deepest fears we hold inside ourselves, grasp the hand of God, and step through.... The book's unique characters tell a story that reminds me of my own journey: a time when I realized that I was a living a life that was quickly killing me, knowing I needed to make major changes in my life, but absolutely terrified of living a life completely different from what I have always known. But like the hero of the story, Sweeny, I realized that I was being guided down this path, by people who would show up and help me at just the right moment, and by other little "coincidences" that reminded me that God was with me every step of the way and that I would be okay. God was always ready to help me, but he wouldn't do for me what I had to do for myself. And that was to be willing to face my deepest fears and walk through them. I cannot think of a better way to relate that experience to a child than through this story. I highly recommend it to anyone, at any age, who has ever had to face a major change in their life, or is preparing to do so. Read this book and remember that God always stands ready to help us to become a better person and no challenge is impossible when we have His help.

The Collected Short Works
The Collected Short Works is basically Bess Streeter Aldrich's stories that she sent in to magazines. She put some of those stories in her books, although she did change a few names, etc. I liked the way each story had a little note telling about when she had had it published, the magazine that published it, and other misc. information on the story. And I'd say that it truly does deserve 5 stars! Or, maybe 4 1/2. I would recommend this book for anyone who enjoys Bess Streeter Aldrich books!

Truly Beautiful
Matsumura has achieved a great success with this book. The first nine chapters contain all of the algebra used in Hartshorne's _Algebraic Geometry_, and a reader who masters all of that material will be well on the way to a solid understanding of algebraic geometry. At the same time, the writing is clear and concise, and the exercises (which the reader should of course do!) are enlightening. In this regard, one should compare Matsumura's book with Eisenbud's _Commutative Algebra with a View Toward Algebraic Geometry_, which has a similar scope but takes up 800 pages. Both books are beautifully written, but while Matsumura prefers a more subtle way of teaching the reader the tricks of the trade, Eisenbud makes explicit commentary on his methods and intuition. Another helpful comparison between the two is in their fundamental approach: Matsumura tends to use universal constructions which are not computationally effective, while Eisenbud seems to keep the computer in mind. Thus, whereas Eisenbud studies the module of differentials using generators and relations, Matsumura uses the universal properties of representable functors.
Unfortunately, this book is not sufficient for a first introduction to commutative algebra, as the pace can be brisk for a reader without the mathematical maturity to appreciate Matsumura's condensed style. (One could read this book after reading Atiyah and MacDonald's _Introduction to Commutative Algebra_.) Nevertheless, for a reader seeking a solid understanding of the commutative algebra necessary for (modern) algebraic geometry, there is no better reference than Matsumura's book.
A minor gripe: the formatting is visually slightly confusing -- the announcements of Theorems, Corollaries, Lemmas, Remarks, Proofs, etc. are all set in italic typeface, so there is not much to orient the eye on the page.

Competitive Bidding in the 21st Century
Fantastic Book!! Marshall Miles is at his best when he tackles the most difficult area of Contract Bridge - Competitive Bidding. His book is the latest in a line of excellent resource materials for the advancing player and covers all aspects of competitive bidding. Miles introduces a complete competitive bidding system, which taken as a whole, will answer many of the questions a partnership might encounter during a session. It is well laid out and covers each aspect of competitive bidding in a detailed manner. He starts with some interesting comments on overcalling with 4 card suits, details how both the overcalling and opening sides could deal with various situations including when "Not" to negative double and ends with a chapter on various "Gadgets" available to the serious competitive bidding partnership.

The Complete Guide to Creative Watercolor by Miles Batt
The operative word here is "Creative". This book is the most helpful design book I have seen for any type of creative painting work. Although it is geared to watercolor; I work in many media with watercolor being the one I use the least frequent. The design and layout composition tips are beneficial to a variety of visual arts. A fashion designer friend even asked to borrow it. I love this book so much; its one of the few that I will never lend out since I had a hard time finding a copy; back in the pre-internet days. I hope he writes some more books!

This text has managed to do the impossible - succinctly summarize the vast and complicated field of GU oncology into a single volume readable precis. The chapters cover all aspects of the relevant malignancies complete with clinical manifestations of disease, current staging systems, pathology considerations and finally standard, novel, and experimental treatment protocols.
