Programming in F

great book for a great language
F is Imagine1 Inc.'s new language (or rather a dialect), consisting of the actual 90 / 95 parts of Fortran 90 / 95, available for Windows / Macintosh / Unix / Linux. In other words, it doesn't have the junk (go to, strange If's) of old Fortran 66 / 77 but includes pointers and structures a la C. The F language is easier to use than C (and Java), and deserves to be the Turbo Pascal of the 2000's for statisticians / behavioral scientists / engineers / scientists, in terms of it being a great, general language (although it could do with graphics / interface / commercial numeric libraries). This book is not the sort of thing that can be read in an afternoon, but it is both very comprehensive and very clear, if you're willing to keep at it. Recommended!

An interesting topic...
I found this book quite by accident. After looking at the F programming language, I found that while F is quite general, there is a class of programming problems for which there is no F-ing way to solve. I am hopful that the future CORBA or COM IDL compilers will start recognizing the "-fthis" command-line switch and start allowing me to F with COM (or is that COM with F)? DB

Thorough, up to date (2000) and well written
This book was recommended as a textbook for a 4th year course in real estate development and it reads like one. It is well organized and covers this broad subject with detailed, practical information in a systematic way.

Most of all I enjoyed the two real life case study storys (of the development of an office building and a high-rise apartment) that weave through the chapters. These were very candidly told by the developers themselves and give the real picture of the trials and tribulations of large project real estate development.

Numerous listings of information sources, web sites, and bibliographies at the end of each section makes this book a 'keeper' reference text.

Market, marketability and feasibility studies
This book so clearly articulates the pivotal role of the triad of market, marketability and feasibility studies in the field of real estate development. While the book does not attempt to be all encompassing, the text is dense with financial and other risk analysis distilled from the experience of the authors and contributors.

Although at times it felt like the shudder of taking an ice cold shower, I finished the book feeling refreshed and invigorated to tackle the challenges and opportunities of the risk-reward tradeoff in the development business.

A Sacrificial Zinc (Lena-Miles Wever Todd Poetry Series)
Published in Paperback by Louisiana State University Press (2001)
Author: Matthew Cooperman
Amazon base price: $12.00

I, Loser
(...) It rocks. It's brilliant and lovely and funny and crazy all at once. Cooperman writes like Whitman would write if Whitman were alive today. You just can't get much better than that. I'm amazed that this is a first book.

Matthew Cooperman Is A Swell Poet
Matthew "Coop" Cooperman's debut is gorgeously phrased, elliptically elliptical, and filled with more numinous viscera than most contemporary (yawn) poets can conjure in three books.
His poetry appeals to the following tantric poetry receptacles: head, gut, heart, crotch, ear, and feet, i.e. its better than corned beef hash, skippy. I recommend this for any fan of contemporary poetry, and especially to young, aspiring poets who are not yet very good and need helpful models to teach them how to write good complete and/or broken sentences. This book is imbued with a wise spirit, linguisticly rabid numinousness, and things. Read it.

Safespace Original Concepts
What impressed me about this book was the unique and convincing explanation of human history on this planet. The story develops in modern time but throughout, relates back to explanations of major conflicts and even the presence of Jesus. It does this without being preachy and maintains a positive outlook of our future. It "tickles" our imagination with the possibility that these "fictional" events may be true because it explains the unexplainable in our history.

The book is also full of hope and challenge and is an appeal for action beyond the mere reading of it. I am sure the author hopes for more than selling books and actually asks for the reader's involvement.

Definitely worth the time and money

Who are you? From where do you come? What is your destiny?
"Safespace" is a story of the true history of Earth and its people. It tells, in a tale of suspenseful intrigue, who we are, why we are here and from whence we came. It is a story of cruel and wrongful usurpation of power, by the Intergalactic Federation, from millions of inhabited worlds and of the removal and imprisonment of their leaders, for all time, on the 'special' prison planet known as Earth.

The Federation takes control of a planet by removing all of its rightful leaders, blocking their memories and putting them all on one planet, where they will quarrel and war with each other and never be a threat to the Federation.

When the earthbound prisoners evolve technically to the point of space travel, the planet is tilted on its axis and they are plunged back into a 'Dark Ages' nightmare world, from which it will take thousands of years to evolve again to space flight capability. This was the fate of Lemuria, Atlantis, Sumeria and others.

The imprisoned population of Earth has once again attained space flight capability. A Federation team, with a highly advanced starship, has been sent to once again tilt the planet and regress the population to primitive technology and barbarity.

Regon Varce, the team leader, is faced with the awsome choice of following Federation orders or following his conscience, to free the imprisoned people of Earth, restore their memories and help them dismantle the cruel and tyrannical Intergalactic Federation.

On his decision rests the fate of Earth's billions and of their DELIVERANCE, at last, from millenia of Federation suppression. The author has written a suspenseful and intrigueing outline of Earth's history, with forceful and believable characters.

The story carries with it an aura of truth that impinges strongly upon the consciousness of the reader and delivers a message of HOPE to the now enslaved people of planet Earth.

Enlightened Reality Written As Science Fiction
The Safespace story tells of things that have been deliberately kept hidden from today's average human being.
It tells of the long long ago, far far away beginnings of the Intergalactic Federation and its usurpation of total control over millions of inhabited worlds by the simple act of removing their leaders and incarcerating those leaders on a prison planet known as 'Earth'.
There, these deposed leaders spend multiple lifetimes quarreling and warring amongst themselves and never become aware of their true identities or origin because of mind blocks which have been put in their brains by the Intergalactic Federation.
Periodically, after thousands of years, Earth's imprisoned population technically advances to the point of being able to begin voyaging into space. At that time, the Federation sends a police team to upset the planet's equilibrium, killing off most of the population and regressing the survivors into a primitive condition of savagery and ignorance. Lemuria, Atlantis, Sumeria are examples of this.
Earth's imprisoned population, all rightful leaders of the controlled worlds of the Federation, have once more arrived at the point of becoming a space-faring society.
A new controller, with an immensely powerful starship, has been sent by the Federation to, once again, disrupt and destroy Earth's newly evolved technology and the bulk of the world's people by causing a catastrophic, planetary tilt.
This controller, Regon Varce, is torn between doing his duty as a Federation representative or doing what he feels is right, by defying the Federation's mandate to plunge the people of Earth once again into the primitive savagery of a new 'Dark Ages'.
This suspenseful tale of cosmic intrigue. adventure and enlightenment carries with it a convincing aura of truth and reverberates within one's consciousness as being potentially based on fact.
The author has done more than just tell a fanciful story. He has delivered, in "Safespace", a message of hope and remembrance for the enslaved people of our planet.
Federatiom overseers are in charge of our world. We are once again ready to voyage into space and, from there, to the stars. We are on the brink of DELIVERANCE into our rightful place as galactic citizens and leaders of millions of populated planets.

Are we ready?

Absorbing and entertaining!
I thoroughly enjoyed this second installment of Pippa Hunnechurch's ongoing struggle to survive in the business world despite onslaughts of evil. Pippa is a delightful character, and I'd love to have a "cuppa" with her, as well as her amazing gun-toting, bible-quoting partner Gloria, anytime. The plot was intricate enough to keep me guessing to the end. I highly recommend it.

clever amateur sleuth
After her husband and child died in an automobile accident, Pippa left England and moved to Ryde Maryland where she opened up Hunnechurch & Associates, Executive Recruiters. Her business is doing well until one of her placements, Barry Goodwin supposedly kills himself, and in his e-mail suicide note blames Pippa.

At first, nobody realizes that someone who did not want him making the flaws of the CM-7 heart replacement valve public murdered Barry. When Pippa realizes Barry might have been murdered she tries to ferret out the killer in hopes of salvaging her floundering business.
After a while her motives change and Barry's quest becomes her mission even if it puts her in danger from a killer who has no mercy.

THE SECOND MILE is a clever amateur sleuth novel that stars a very feisty and strong-willed heroine whose faith sustains her in times of crisis. The mystery is complex with enough suspects to keep reading guessing until the climax is reached. Ron and Janet Berney have written a mystery series that will have wide appeal to more than just fans of the sub-genre.

Favorite book as a child
When I was a kid I made my Mom read this story to me over and over. It was a classic with my family. This is one of those books that is just fun for everyone.

I thought it was good because it was really funny.
Larry was a very believable character and the situation he found himself in made me smile. Larry was scared he would lose respect from his friends by being in an underwear commercial, but he gained it from all. This was a perfect book for me - a 9 year old, 3rd grade girl.

Thirteen Miles from Suncrest

Down Home Life in the Early 1900s
I would highly recommend "Thirteen Miles from Suncrest" to people who like to read about life in the south in the early 1900s. Follow the main character, Medford McGee, as he grows up on a farm, his school life, his social life, and how he mingles with other people in the community. The book covers interesting historical happenings in that era and a young boys reactions to the events. This book is for people who likes to watch television programs such as The Waltons. I found the ending a tragic surprise, but I still found the book charming and heartwarming and deeply suggest the reading of the novel, "Thirteen Miles from Suncrest" for its gentle warmth.

one of the best novels I read this year
I like novels whose characters remind me of aunts and uncles I remember from my days growing up on the farm and this novel is full of them. The setting is Appalachia during the early days of the twentieth century. Davis is especially good at creating characters you come to care about. This is a great read for those who enjoy stories from the early 1900's and who enjoy rich characterization.

A Thousand Miles of Mustangin'
Ben K. Green was equally adept at roping a steer, riding a bronc and spinning a yarn. You will feel that you are sitting around his campfire eatin' a mess of good chuck and slapping your sides laughing at one of his longest adventures ever; rounding up a renegade herd of mustangs in Old Mexico, doing the least necessary to make them seem rideable and trail driving them a thousand miles almost single-handedly, hoping to be able to sell them at a time when money was very tight. Along the way, you will meet some assorted colorful characters and witness Ben at his horse-trading best. This is a gem of a story told with lots of humor and a west Texas drawl.
