~An emotional review of the American Architect~
The creation of an American icon through the eyes of Thomas Jefferson is a true example of history. The diverse concepts and ideas embodied by Jefferson is brilliantly portrayed in the means of emotional involvement and reason. Concepts that have moved a country into war and then together is in essence a marvel.

Tallis Fantasia-Beautiful
The Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis is one of the most beautiful works ever for string orchestra. Anyone with an inclination towards Ralph Vaughn Williams or just English music would love this piece. The score is easy to read and the 1st and 2nd orchetras and the solo string quartet are easily distinguished.

Genesis of an Orientalist: Thomas William Rhys Davids in Sir Lanka
Published in Hardcover by Motilal Banarsidass Pub (01 November, 1985)
Author: Ananda Wickremeratne
Amazon base price: $19.95
Average review score:

THE definitive book on this subject
This book is extraordinarily well researched, argued and written. An absolutely impressive work-I recommend Dr. Wickremeratne's books for anyone interested in the real history of South Asia and not just the usual, fadish, slip-shod sociological "theory" of the moment. This is the definitive text for any serious scholar and student of history.

The Grim Phoenix: Reconstructing Thomas Pynchon
Published in Textbook Binding by Indiana University Press (1978)
Author: William M., Plater
Amazon base price: $17.50
Average review score:

A brilliant multidisciplinary analysis
William M. Plater, a respected Indiana academician and college dean, gives an amazing analysis of Pynchon's fiction up to and including Gravity's Rainbow (the book was written before Vineland and Mason & Dixon) using not only literary references, but philosophical, mathematical, sociological, and mythological as well. He references Pynchon back to some of his own source material such as The Education of Henry Adams and Wittgenstein's Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus. He delves not so much into the structure of Pynchon's dense prose, but the reasons behind it, the ideas behind it, and where Pynchon resides in the mental and literary landscape. Plater outlines the major themes of Pynchon's fiction (eg, death transfigured, paranoia, reality and its projected image) and weaves them into a very readable and thought-provoking examination of the greatest American writer of the latter 20th century and certainly the archetype of postmodernism. If you read Pynchon, you should also read Plater.

The Ground of Union: Deification in Aquinas and Palamas
Published in Hardcover by Oxford University Press (1999)
Author: A. N. Williams
Amazon base price: $55.00
Average review score:

Outstanding scholarship!
I have been greatly aided by this book in my understanding of the connection and "common ground" between the Eastern Orthodox and the Roman Catholics via two sainted theologians of the east and west- Gregory Palamas and Thomas Aquinas.

I could go on about the book, but the sample pages speak for themsleves. Please see some of my other reviews for books of similar interest, esp my list of ecumenical books. If you are really interested in this sort of topic, then you should really consider buying "Energies of the Spirit" by Duncan Reid. It is also very detailed and insightful (it looks at trinitarian models in east and west). Enjoy!

One of our finest writers
Thomas Williams has written a brilliant book that everyone should read--The Hair of Harold Roux. It is probably the finest of all Williams' novels. Written as a novel-within-a-novel, both stores involve the reader. It's one of my favorite books.
