Gives valuable information in one complete reference
Having previously read "Netware Professional Reference" by Karanjit Siyan, I hoped this edition would follow in the same light. This book is a real help for network administrators as it gives good examples and solutions of day to day problems.

This book is designed as a reference not a study guide. This is one of the best Intranetware books I have read to date.

I've used this book as a desk reference and it's great.
I have all of my "favorite places" marked for quick reference. The book is not organized to study for CNE exams. However, it has the information for Intranetware Network Administrators need for managing their networks. It contains a great index for quick look-ups.

On Law, Morality, and Politics
Published in Hardcover by Hackett Pub Co (2003)
Authors: Thomas Aquinas, Richard J. Regan, and William P. Baumgarth
Amazon base price: $
Average review score:

Interesting but hard read
The excerpts of Thomas Aquinas' "Summa Theologica" are well-presented in this book. Aquinas blends together his Christian faith and ancient philosophy, especially Aristotle, to examine questions about law, human nature, faith, politics, and ethics. I read this for a class on political philosophy and found it particularly interesting, a bridge between the ancients (Aristotle, Plato, Sophocles) and the more modern philosophers (Machiavellie, Locke, Hobbes).

It is also a hard read. The structure of each section is rigid: Aquinas poses a question, gives three objections to his answer, quotes other sources to support his answer (be it Greek philosophers, early Christians like Augustine, or the Bible) and then explains his answer and refutes the objections. To read it straight through is tedious, but to read several sections and consider Aquinas' whole thoughts on subjects can be very interesting, especially in the study of philosophy or theology.

For a student of theology or philosophy, I think Aquinas is important to read and understand, even if from another version of his writings. This book does a good job in presenting Aquinas. Aquinas and his beliefs are more interesting than the reading itself, but it's worth a look if you are interested in studying faith and theology or philosophy. As a light read, though, this is not the book.

High quality writing on these subjects
To my knowledge only a threesome authors-philosophers (Sartre, Nietzsche and Macchiavelli) would have been able as well to tell "useful" words on this combination of topics Aquinas chose.

The author - few are more original than Thomas - looks back on, examines some of the most basic, important questions that interest humanity (human nature and ethics, politics and law..) and explores them in the light of Christian faith, as well as ancient philosophy. Of the "ancients" he looks in particular close to Aristotle, whom's version the Bible was of till then. So one could say that he was sort of a predecessor for the great humanists...
Aquinas tries to restore the autonomy of nature and reason, in full harmony with (Christian) faith. The result of his work is genial, both what concerns the scholastic ànd "thomistic" style as well as for the special way of exploring and investigation through which he succeeds to "restore in faith".

Everyone who wants to read Aquinas should know that the author writes in a very specific, difficult way. It looks from time to time he opposes to himself, but after studying his readings one can only conclude that this is REAL top-of-the-shelf literature (for those esp. who like theology, philosophy, politics,...).

very exciting book
At the first time, I can meet contemporary philosophers' theory such like Deleuze, Lacan, Kleine, etc. The field of this book is very extensive as well as micro-prospective. Its style is that the differences of some words between then and now age are introduced, and the author explains diffences between their consciousness and ours. Shakespeare examined words people used in various ways. The author is looking for the process

shakespeare's brain
I didn't know how I can apply contemporary critical theory into shakespeare's play until I read this book. There are so many criticism about Shakespeare that I cannot make my mind up how to study his play. LInguistics and psychology is the most interesting field to me. Many words Shakespeare used is introduced in this book. The author explains cognitive theory by using these words. That's amazing! He introduces and emphasizes that word fomation is created by emotion and social situation. Focusing on them, he created cognitive, philosophical, and psychological explaination of Shakespeare's.

The Yale Edition of the Shorter Poems of Edmund Spenser
Published in Hardcover by Yale Univ Pr (1989)
Authors: Edmund Spenser, William Oram, Einar Bjorvand, Et Al, Alexander Dunlop, and Thomas H. Cain
Amazon base price: $75.00

marred by overediting
This book would normally get a "10" for providing us with the shorter poems of Edmund Spenser, but it is marred by overediting. The collective ego of Yale comes through on almost every page. I can see one footnote that begins, "There is irony here." I ask, is there any poem without irony? Why point it out? A footnote should be providing the student with factual information, references to allusions, etc., and not providing interpretation. So, buy the book; Spenser is so great a poet that philosophy textbooks sometimes devote pages to him; but ignore the editing.

The definitive version for the serious academic student
If you are in any way responsible academically for Spenser's shorter works, this is the book. Editing, of course, refers to how the text of the poems is managed with regard to conflicts in early editions, etc. Here, decisions on text are made consistently and all changes vs. early texts are listed in the Appendices. Also useful, even though it's now more than 12 years out of date, is the annotated bibliography, which provides a good starting point for additional literary research.

FACT IS STRANGER THAN FICTION...
Jett Williams' story is the sort of tale for soap opera fodder, only better, because it's based on true life. This book has everything...fame, sex, sabotage, covertness, secrets, lies, legal battles...and all within the same family. It's sad to know that the family of such an inspiring talent as Hank Williams, Sr., could stoop to such cruelty and greed...and even more amazing that Jett was able to rise above it all, claim her heritage and be recognized for her own talent. She should be a spokesperson for open adoption records everywhere! Her struggle is an inspiration to adoptees everywhere who hope for a biological reconnection.

Review of The Alaskan Saga of Thomas Churchill O'Brien
This delightfully amusing novel concerns the experiences of the hero in his quest for fulfillment, and employment, in our northernmost state. The focus of the book is not on the geographical setting as much as it is on the inhabitants. This book is not for the squeamish who adhere to political correctness, and there is no doubt that some groups will take umbrage at the jibes taken at the sacred cows the author has chosen. Having said that, perhaps the parody of these groups has sufficient basis in fact to draw some blood. This Northern Huckleberry Finn tale with a political/science fiction twist is a good read, and a funny one at that.

welcome to the world of make believe
A lot of us suspect that behind the scene of politics much more unrevealed information is kept away from the public eye.
Reading this book would help anyone to be more educated and less naive as to what the reality behind "Showtime America" is, based on a clearer understanding of issues like war...
I thought the movie "The Matrix" was brilliant, now I find it to be closer to reality than I thought.

Useful and Sturdy Scholarship
This book seems somewhat dated, but that may be because it has inspired so much research on the importance of marriage and ceremony that the ideas appear familiar. One easily forgets that this is the book that opened the way to new approaches to Shakespeare's plays. When my students want to write about the importance of ceremony or about women or about marriage in Shakespeare's plays, I first send them to *Broken Nuptials*. It's nicely written with no twisted inane jargon to trip up even a novice reader. Most readers, in fact, may end the book thinking "I knew that!" (although they probably didn't know it when they started the book). The insights appear to be so self-evident (and so colored by work done after the book's publication) that I believe readers and scholars, while recognizing the book's importance, have underrated its quality. This book is an excellent tool that stands the test of time.
