I want them to publish this book again!
I read this book twenty-some years ago, loved it, and would love to read it again. It is the sequel to Blueberry Summer, and describes Cass Phillips' senior year in highschool: what happens after her summer of self-discovery and the realization of her potential. The Fabulous Year addresses issues we all dealt with at that age: self-esteem, peer pressure, the desire to be "in with the in crowd", loyalty in friendship and romance (yes, Adam Ross is in this book, too!); and some other, more unusual topics. Cass is neither rebel nor goody-goody, but makes her own decisions by being true to her values: a victory sometimes hard-won. Unfortunately, it is currently out of print, but maybe the combined voices of the Blueberry Summer fans will bring it back: WE WANT CASS! WE WANT CASS! WE WANT CASS!

Father and Son: An Intimate Study

Clarity on the subject of fatherhood in a confused society.
Although the author's prose may seem a bit disjointed today, the timeless message of this great book sounds forth with astonishing clarity in our modern culture.

One has only to look as far as one's local newscast to see firsthand the tragedies that are inflicting a nation that has been repeatedly told that the role of a strong father is not necessary to the development of our children.

And what about the Dad's that really do want to be there for their children? Where in today's society can a Dad go to learn exactly what his children and wife really need to thrive?

Thankfully, this book does just that. By pointing to the timeless principles in God's word, a father can begin the process of orienting his marriage relationship and fatherhood responsiblities to God's principles.

As a soon-to-be Dad, I am very thankful this formerly out-of-print book is now available again. I would encourage all Dad's to get your own copy today. This is a must-read.

Insight into why we Eat
"Most compulsive overeaters react to refined sugar and flour the way an alcoholic reacts to alcohol. One bite and we sooner or later go on a binge."

Proper eating does take planning and who has the time to eat in a consistently proper manner at every moment? Well, this book gives some ideas for how we can rethink our eating patterns.

This thoughtful little guide is used by members of Overeaters Anonymous, but it can be a helpful book for anyone who just wants to think about why we eat the way we do. This book is one of the books in the Hazelden Meditation Series. A series of books to give courage and strength to people who want to live "one day at a time."

Short meditations give insight into why we eat, give encouragement to anyone who is on a diet and can be beneficial to anyone with an eating disorder. At the end of each meditation, there is a little prayer so you are also drawing on a higher power to change your life.

Some of the topics include: "don't take the first bite," "gratitude," "overeating is hell," "all we have is now," "abstain or overeat," "love has no calories," "don't be a garbage can," "giving thanks," "satisfaction," "eating slowly," sharing," "letting go," "simple joys," "hunger is a habit," "be good to yourself," "ignoring the cravings," "emptiness," "moods," "concentrating," and "minimizing temptation."

Will appeal to anyone who is seeking personal and spiritual growth. For anyone who wants to benefit from a more emotionally and spiritually balanced life. This book was specifically created for OA, so if you just want to read this book on your own, you can just overlook the "program type notes."

"Food for Thought" is not a diet, it won't tell you what to eat. It is a guide to thinking about what you are eating so you can take control of your eating habits.

Peaceful, encouraging meditations
I have this book on tape and love the quiet, gentle voices that remind me of the 12-steps and why they work for us compulsive overeaters. A wonderful book and worth its weight in gold.

Beautiful Depth of Truth
Everything I have read by Elisabeth Elliot is encouraging and thought-provoking, but this is distilled beautiful wisdom. Each letter of the alphabet is given five one-page entries; for example, 'trust' has five pages, 'commit' has five, etc. Some of the entries are culled from her other writings, some are quotations of well-known Christian thinkers or of classic hymns. Each page has enough on it to think about for at least an entire day. Your heart will be strengthened and made joyful as you read.

Unusual approaches to life and death
I found this book really interesting. Very unusual subjects are covered and each chapter is actually an edited and very lively discussion between E.J. Gold and students and other interested folks. Lots of humor too, one of my favorite things!

We should all have so much looking at the big picture, what matters and how -
