True gifts
Finally, someone who understands that gifts are not about how much you spend or how much you can impress your friends. I love the way the book emphasizes simpler, but more loving offerings: homebaked goodies, fresh flowers, gifts of experiences rather than things (a round of golf, tickets to a play or movie, etc.). The book even shows inventive and personal ways that money can be given. Most of all, though, the beautiful photography and the passages about the philosophy of giving make this book a great resource for someone who wants to give meaningful and personal presents.

Excellent!
This book is a treasure. The ideas enable you to deliver the messages to the recipients that they are special for you. The memory of the gift giving stays with them for a long time. Try it. I have, and it works.

A True Gift!
I love this book and have used many of the ideas to the delight of friends and family. I also own a gift business for professionals with personal clients and I use it for them too! I have given this book as a gift and can't tell you the thank you's I have received! If you buy this book you will never be at a loss for a thoughtful gift again!!!!

Elegant and Informative
This book is a gem of simplicity and usefulness. It integrates anatomy, myofascial techniques, holistic thinking and traditional Chinese medicine meridien theory and also provides simple stretching and strengthening exercises to help patients move from pain to recovery. It's beautifully designed and illustrated; I especially love the calligraphic drawings of the exercises. As a massage therapist, I can say that it is now one of my favorite reference books.

Low Carb Ideas -Good Food 3 is Great Stuff
When my doctor recommended a low carb diet my family groaned!! I could eat whatever I wanted but they refused. I bought this book and just started cooking and they fell in love with the recipes. I had all the ingredients I needed-no hunting for strange or hard to find items. The soups are really flavorful and easy. The sauces add alot to dress up an ordinary meal. These recipes are easy and do not take long to prepare. ... I needed a cookbook that was filled with recipes that were easy, fast and flavorful. I found all that in in "Low Carb Ideas-Good Food 3." Not only did I find a great cookbook but I have lost weight too. ... Donna, my family thanks you. Thanks from me too!!

Low-carb Ideas "3": Just as great as the first two books!
I enjoyed "Low-carb Ideas - Good Food2" so much I had to buy "3." I'm so glad I did! I have enjoyed the cheesecake and all the fast and easy soups the most. The soups gave me quick lunches that took about five minutes or even less for some from start to finish. Very low-carb and in some cases less then 1 gram for the whole thing. This has helped me stay on my diet because I can have time to figured out an evening meal, but lunch gets old if I only eat meat and cheese. Then did I mention cheesecake? Enough said.

Excellent
This is a great book. We struggled with the low-carb diet until we found this collection of recipes. There's enough variety and high-quality interesting recipes to keep you going for a LONG time. Make sure to experiment-- many of the dishes that sound different are actually VERY tasty. All courses are represented, from appetizers to great desserts. You can get as simple or as fancy as you want.

Mao, Marx & the Market: Capitalist Adventures in Russia and China
Published in Digital by John Wiley & Sons, Inc. ()
Authors: Dean Lebaron and Donna Sammons Carpenter
Amazon base price: $27.95
Average review score:

Highly Recommended!
Dean LeBaron has crafted an insightful volume that is part travelogue, part cultural analysis, and part memoir. The resulting book will bring you up-close and personal with the forces that shaped the two great cultures of Russia and China. The text is adorned with vignettes, anecdotes, parables and humor that keep the read as entertaining as it is weighty. We from getAbstract strongly recommend this book to anyone looking to understand two countries that have greatly influenced the last century of human history and will play a central role in the next.

a front-row seat on history
This first-hand account of some of the most momentous events of the twentieth century is an extremely compelling read. The account is lucid and engaging, but it's the analysis that takes it over the top. It was a pleasure to read.

Wow! A business adventurer!
I'm a graduate student, earning my MBA at Stanford, and I just have one point to make: Dean LeBaron deserves all of our attention and respect. Here's a man who risked his (considerable) reputation to help transform the economies of Russia and China. And unlike the most folks these days (dare I mention Enron), he wasn't in it just for the money. LeBaron is a thoughtful, insightful, highly original analyst. Read this book and you will discover, as he writes, that "nothing is as contrary as reality." I can't wait for his next book.

I am constantly reading books of a wide variety and it is easy to see when someone really knows their stuff. It is also easy to see when someone knows how their stuff applies in the real world and Donna Fisher clearly does! Many of the principles Donna speaks of I had heard before but she gave them a real world perspective I had not heard before and made them applicable to me and my business. The principles I had not heard ... WOW! I have tools now I didn't have before reading this powerhouse book! An absolute must for anyone wanting to be of service to others!

Most helpful book I've ever read
I heard about this book from a friend and bought it the first chance I had. School-Saavy has changed the way I raise my children. I no longer worry about being "left out" of my children's school life. This book taught me to catch my children's school problems before they start. Since I read School-Saavy my kids are getting spectacular grades because I know how to help them. Thanks Saavy authors!

School-Savvy is not just for August and September
What a wonderful treasure I uncovered when I read The School-Savvy Parent! This is not a book to be used just in August and September. You'll use this book all year. There are tips that have helped me make mornings less stressful, ease the homework anxiety, and for holiday savvy parenting. There are even examples of conversation starters that actually get my child talking about school. The School-Savvy Parent is indexed and so it's easy to use when I want to look up something specific. I take it with me while I'm waiting for soccer practice to end and enjoy snappy, humorous tips that help me help my child. No parent bashing here.

THIS BOOK IS ESSENTIAL FOR ALL PARENTS OF SCHOOL-AGE CHILDRE
I picked this book up at the bookstore after reading about it in the Courier Journal Newspaper. It is just what I needed. I have been trying to do just one tip a day from the book and it seems to be helping me help my children be more successful. I feel like I am more "in the know" about school. I would highly recommend this book to parents.

American Sign Language is better
I will give this book 5 stars for being the best in Signed Exact English (SEE), but I would recommend picking up a American Sign Language book instead. My family used the big orange SEE book when they first found out I was deaf - they still have the 1980 edition! Being someone who grew up using SEE, I can say that it's very awkward to sign, and does not feel natural. I moved over to ASL a long time ago. SEE is not as effective as people say it is at teaching children how to write English well. I didn't pick up my English writing ability from SEE, I got it from proper instruction and being a bookworm. American Sign Language has its own grammar and lexicon which is completely different from English, but it feels more natural because it is a language which was developed as a sign language, while English has been developed as a auditory/written language, and does not fit the parameters of a sign language very well.

Must Have for beginner Signing Exact English Students
Signing Exact English is a must have for beginners. I am a teenager with a dream of becoming a CDI (Certified Deaf Interpreter.) I learned a lot from this book. Hopefully I will be able to pass on the gift of Sign, and this book, to my children. I reccomend hard cover (the paperback cover is pretty flimsey.)

great resource!
Get the pocket edition of this book and carry it with you! I mistakenly ordered the small size and was surprised when such a tiny book arrived, but now I'm thrilled.

My middle child was speech delayed due to a transient hearing loss. I had heard often of parents using baby signs but had never really considered it myself. Now I wish I would have, because my daughter *loves* to use sign. I chose a "real" sign language instead of creating signs, as some parents choose to do, because I wanted consistancy, uniformity and the chance that their signing might come in handy with a signing person. After all, why re-invent the wheel?

The full size version of this book is much easier to read, but the convenience of the small size makes the slight difficulties in interpreting the signs worth the while.

great book
This book has a great deal of detail. I feel as if there was too much emphasis on her sex life versus her screen image, and frankly that was her business, not important in the book. Otherwise a good book.

It Told Me Just What I Wanted to Know About Her
I wanted to know all about the men in Grace Kelley's life, both before and after her marriage. This book told me everything, but in a classy, well-researched way. I learned a lot about Monaco, and just the things I would have wanted to know about her family members, too. After reading this excellent book, I plan to read more of Robert Lacey's works.

A Comprehensive Biography of Princess Grace of Monaco
'Grace' tells the life story of Princess Grace of Monaco, formerly the movie star Grace Kelly. It seems Grace had some problems adjusting to royalty, including the fact that her mother-in-law, Princess Charlotte, despised her. But as years went by, it seems Grace and Rainier became closer. The fact that Rainier is still a widower and always poses for pictures in front of her portrait shows he will always love her!

A great tale in the Rockies...
Loved the bear scenes. Tons of action and suspense. Cotton has painted the Rockies with words. While reading, I felt as though I could look out my window and see the mountains. Plus, the tail is believable... Again, Cotton makes the reader feel he/she is a part of the story.

A very gripping, and well put together story.
Killers of Man, was a very nice piece of work. Once you start reading it you cant put it down, and very compelling. I have had a bought with a Grizzly, and this story was right on line to the way they are, even before they have tasted human blood, which just makes it worse once they have. And it sends chills down your back. I hope he writes more on this subject. Very well done, A+.

Wonderful Story--masterful story-teller.
Though I have enjoyed all of Mr. Cotton's books, Killers of Man remains my favorite. It is such a gripping tale, I sat down to read a few chapters, then next thing I knew, it was 5:00 a.m. and I had finished the book.

Wonderful story. Masterful story-teller.
