Ingredients for History!!
After reading this book,I becamemore aware of how the 'CivilWar"families, were separated bypolitics that were never resolved. And the recipes found in this bookare treasures, that can still be used today. It is fascinating reading,a book you definitely won'tbe able to put down, until you'veread the last page. It's so absorbing,so historical, and thephotos bring the "Lincolns' alivefrom the past to present time. The author has displayed warmth,of a family's love, and couragebeyond imaigination. Donna McCrearyis truly giving the reader far morethen the culinary arts, she isshowing how a family under thedirest circumstances, emergesfrom the War' with grace, and dignity."Lincoln's Table' is alsothe greatest love story,I have everread,a test of vicissitudes thatbrings hope for others to endurein their marriages. This book is a cookbook,a'How-to-"keep a family together',and most of all,a masterpiece of all times!!

History with flavor.
The book is bursting with an array of a myriad of 'President Abrahamand Mary Todd Lincoln's' lifefrom their childhood to the time they got married, recipes thatgives the reader a delightfulinsight to what prompted the"Lincoln's tastes. It tells us whatfoods were 'Lincoln's favories',as a young boy,to adulthood.Ancedotes that tell us about thecooking ingredients that were popular in the different timeframes of their lives. It is abook of great intensity of notonly the foods that the 'Lincolns'enjoyed when they were married, also, a marriage of superbspices, blended with each recipeof historical facts(i.e.....what foods were popular duringthe 'antebellum' period, and the'Civil War.' Abrahan's favoritecomfort foods that he had whenthe 'Civil War' was raging, andMary's love of the culinary arts. It's book full of lovely remmbrances of the "Lincoln'senduring love for each other, and you feel like you're havingdinner right there with them. The author did an excellent merging of food with Americanhistory.A book you'll want to own,and pass it on to your grandchildren. Kudos to theauthor, 'Donna D.McCreary'for a book that should be ineverybody's library to betreasured.A "best-seller' that should beon the lists of 'books' to be read for decades.

A Very Charming Book
The author has done a wonderful job of collecting an array of recipes of food that Lincoln enjoyed from his boyhood through his presidency. The recipes are easy, fun, and are good old fashioned home cooking!A very charming part of the book is how the author has added little anecdotes, background info and tips about certain ingredients. Quite a bit of history thrown in too as we see the menu for Lincoln's sister Sarah's wedding, and menus from an inaugural luncheon and a White House ball. The book also serves as a mini biography of Lincoln as we see him go from a boy in Kentucky to a laywer, husband and father in Springfield IL, to being President of the United States and alot thrown in between! We see the private side of Lincoln and the love he had for his family, and the meals they enjoyed. This book is a must for any Lincoln buff, and even if you're not, it is a great addition to any cookbook collection. For a good old fashioned taste in the midst of this fast paced processed world-give this book a try!

A must Read Anthology!
Alers never disappoints me. Loved Kenyon and Shumba's story. Who says change destroys a relationship, love conquers all!

Sims once again displays her talent for writing in this bueatifully written novella. Alana and Nico's story was very touching. It is great to have a friend around when a love one dies, but it is lovely to have someone to love always!

Hill's Masquerade was my favorite novella in "Love Letters." Hill shows her writing skills in this one. "Masquerade" was a fun and enjoyable read! Much love to all authors!!

I liked the whole book, Janice sims is my favorite though.
I read the whole book, but the one story I wanted to read over again was the one by Janice Sims. she just knows how to make vivid stories. Her romantic novels, to me, reign supreme. I am a blackman and if she can get a blackman to read such books then she most certainly has the knack for this type of writing. Even though she says she hasn't written her definitive work yet, I just can't wait to read what ever that work is that she sees as the definition of her talent. Indeed if not all of her books end up being made into a movie at least one of them should. Plus she is a poet too, you can't get better than that. Get this book and all over he other books. Janice Sims will soon be one of the writers we will always be talking about, don't take my word for it. Read the book for yourself.

I fell in love with Shumba the way he went after Kenyon.
Love Letters was a really good book and I really enjoyed Kenyon and Shumba story my heart with out for Shumba. I just wanted him to have her so bad. There was so much love there between them two the second time around,it is a must read book but Hearts of Gold is a must read short story in book.

Love the pictures!
I used this book to get an idea of what kind of window treatments I want to make. This book is simple to read and understand and I can't wait to put it into practice.

the worst book on the subject I've ever seen
the instructions are so badly phrased and illustrated, it's next to useless. I am an experienced sewer, have made lots of draperies, just needed a refresher, and instructions on interlining. There are no instructions on interlining, and the language of instruction is so inexact I simply can't figure out what she's talking about. Same for the illustrations, and I'm a artist (painter) who reads engineering drawings as easily as written language. The least of the faults of this book is that it gives no basic overview of what's possible, and the esthetic exercised is ... well, irrelevant to mine. By the way, I have constructed clothing for fashion shows for pattern companies here in New York.

Excellent source for seemingly complicated swags
This book is a great source for step by step instruction on swags. Several styles to choose from, breaks down the seemingly complicated swags and jabots and walks you through the instruction.

Scroogier than Scrooge, Grincier than the Grinch...
Boy can Miss Biddlewick hold a grudge! I especially loved the Goobledeegop, the rhymes and the touching ending. My neices Jewel and Blaire just went crazy over it. It's all they ever want to hear now. I had to buy each their copy as they refused to share it! I can't wait for the sequel...is there going to be one?

The Grinch should step aside...it's Miss Biddlewick's turn!
This book was excellent. It is a modern day Grinch story, although in my opinion, it's better than the Grinch! It's got the excitement, humor, and happy ending that just keeps you enthralled.

I bought several to give as gifts to various neices and nephews. I even got them autographed by the actual authors, at the mall. The kids are going to love that.

A fantasic book for kids.
A modern day Grinch Who Stole Christmas story, very well written. My daughter loved it!

More Splash Than Cash Window Treatments
Home decorators from Dunces to Divas will love this book. The treatments are lovely but once again, Ms Babylon has outdone herself on the instructions. This book is packed with details, suggestions, hints, tips, all in easily understood, easy to follow instructions. I've been sewing my own window treatments for years and even I learned many time saving, workroom tips. I loaned my copy to my teenage daughters and they were able to design and complete window treatments for their rooms. This book gave them the tools and the confidence to tackle the project!

Thanks Donna and Victoria for another great hit!

Fantasitc Teaching Tool
I use this book in class rooms all over the place, from 6 year olds to 12 year olds. I am currently planning a 10 week program of literature and art around this book for 10 year olds. The older kids appreciate the things that the younger kids don't pick up on,eg: family relationships between different characters at different times. It a great jump start to talking about Multiculturalism in Australia and how this came about, where the different nationalities came from and why. Discussions about war are also valid. I am using it to focus the kids on their place, physically and metaphorically, we will be creating our own maps and writing to go with them. We are then going to 'publish' them in our own book and hold an exhibition of the original art works in conjunction with their completed page and the completed book.

One of my favourites
This book came out in 1988 during Australia's bicentennial of the European invasion of Australia. It shares a title with a book by Sally Morgan, an Aboriginal women whose search for her own identity and place was published at the same time. This book can be read in either direction. For younger children, it may be easier to start at then end an move forwards. For older children, part of the fun is in uncovering the history of the place - an inner urban area of Sydney.

The book emphasises the timeless continuity of the place, and that even though we might be the temporary custodians of a piece of land, we share a common history and linkage through our humanity, and our Aboriginal history. Lushly illustrated by Donna Rawlins, and words by Nadia Wheatley. A valuable asset to any school library, primary or secondary, and public library, as well as the shelves at home.

My son first showed interest in t at about age 4, and has returned to it periodically since - ie over 2 years. It will stay with him for many years yet!

This is a richly detailed, very touching book about one plac
This is a richly detailed, and very touching book about one place though history. Although it is a children's book, adults will find plenty to interest them, especially if they have an interest in history. There are maps drawn by the characters of where they live that are interesting to observe for the continuity through time. Wars, immigration, and environmental change all play a part. Some things remain the same.

What a great start to a new series
I thoroughly enjoyed THE NANNY PROPOSAL by Donna Clayton. It was a fun, fast read that kept me turning the pages. This is the first book in a series about three Single Daddy Doctors. What a great way to start! I highly recommend it!

Important contribution to the field of Mexican folk art
McMenamin's lavishly illustrated tome covers many areas of Mexican folk art, including certain forms specifically created for the American tourist market in the 1920's, 30's and 40's. Folk ceramics, talavera, textiles, furniture, wood carvings, popote or straw mosaics, lacquerware, loteria drawings and carved coconut banks are among the folk art genres included in this well-researched book. As a collector of Mexican folk art, I know only too well how difficult it is to find books in English on this subject; McMenamin offers both the serious scholar and the casual collector precious insight into many folk art forms that have almost completely disappeared or are languishing because of the acculturation that inevitably occurs with foreign contact. Popular Arts of Mexico (1850-1950) is a good, basic overview of areas other than traditional dance masks and Los Dias de Los Muertos-related folk art.

Simply "The Bible" for Mexican folk art lovers
Beautiful pictures, informed text! Collectors use this "Bible" as a reference to describe their Mexican folk art.

Most of the information is unavailable in other books.

Plus, the book is gorgeous.

The Bible of Mexican Popular Arts Collecting!
I was first told about Donna McMenamin's book "Popular Arts of Mexico" by a fellow collector of Mexicana who thought I might like it. I remember telling him I had too many other interest to get involved in such a broad field of collecting. At that time I was collecting the most basic of Mexican chotzkie, anything with a "Sleeping Mexican" on it seemed appropriate. Then I saw Donna's book. One word...Wow. I was first just blown away with the pictures, such clear and concise images. And the detail! Sadly, I was hooked. I started taking her book with me on jaunts to the antique mall where I would pick up anything that looked remotely similar. Can you say expensive? Eventually, because of the book, I was able to spot things on my own, which was great, and much cheaper. :-) Donna's book has opened up a whole new world of collecting for me. I had never seen a carved wood panel, known as "bas relief." When I saw the chapter in her book I just knew I had to own one. They are incredible and have now become a focal point in our collection of TRUE Mexican Popular Arts. OK, I still like sleeping Mexican things, but I'm crazy! :-) It would be difficult for me to say a collectibles book changed my life, I guess it seems so shallow, however, Donna's book gave me a new awareness of things that are amazingly beautiful. I'd say that's a positive life change. Can you say sappy book review? :-)
