My children love this book.
The Adventures of Buzz and Ollie are an excellent resource for early childhood music education. I have experienced the value of this book in two roles. As a music educator, I appreciate this insightful introduction to the fundamental musical concept of amplitude. As a parent, I appreciate how the clever rhymes and colorful graphics hold the attention of my own children as they enjoy the amusing plots. This is one volume in a great set of well-produced books for home and school. My family bought a set for ourselves and one for our children's elementary school library.

Fun and Educational
This book is fun to read, both to children and by children. Without even realizing it, they will be learning key musical concepts. The illustrations are great! And they are large enough to be seen by a group of children if the book is being read to them.

Delightful learning adventure!
I found Buzz and Ollie's Loud, Soft Adventure to be a delightful and enjoyable reading experience. What a fun way to learn musical concepts! I especially enjoyed the bright, colorful illustrations. Children of all ages will surely enjoy the advertures that Buzz and Ollie find themselves in and they will be learning foundational music concepts in the process. My four year old grandson (who rarely sits still for long) enjoyed it from cover to cover as did I. I highly recommend this book.

Fantastic Resource!
Every law student should own a copy of "Choosing Small, Choosing Smart". Written by someone who knows first hand, a valuable tool.

Choosing Small, Choosing Smart
I found this book very helpful.... I highly recommend it.

A Message from the Author
According to employment statistics collected by the American Bar Foundation, 74% of all lawyers work in private practice. Of those lawyers working in the private sector, 83% work in firms offewer than 50 lawyers. The small firm market is the source of tremendous job-seeking opportunities for graduating law students and lawyers. While working in the Career Services Office at the University of Pittsburgh, I had the opportunity to speak with hundreds of small firm practitioners and learn about their specific hiring needs. Tapping into their expertise and the expertise of bar association executives and career services directors, who have contributed specific advise "In Their Own Words," my book is an important resource for those contemplating the small law firm market. You'll garner practical advice regarding resumes, cover letters, and interviews as well as networking tips to help you achieve your goal of finding a small firm position that's right for you.

A MUST-READ FOR SURVIVORS OR FAMILIES !!!
I read this book two years ago, and it is a story that I think would help both the "Survivors" of incest and the families of the "Victims" to reach a definite understanding of how a child feels when this happens to them. I am now a volunteer for the Center For Child Abuse Prevention in my city.

Well written and inspirational, I read it in one sitting.
As a suffer of AIDS, my life has new meaning since I was told that I am HIV positive. I want to simplify my life. Donna Friess' book has given me courage and a new insight into making my life count. It is my most valuable possesssion.

Amazing Courage and Strength, Indeed a Trimuph
Donna Friess shows several things on incest: 1. The cycle of Abuse must end; 2. There is healing from such horrendous torture; 3. There is hope, peace, healing, and life after incest. After Donna experiences the ultimate betrayal by her father, she gives hope to incest Survivors; she lets them know that life isn't about incest and being a victim. Life is about living, loving, and trimuph of the human spirit. I highly recommend this book to any incest Survivor.

The Desert Peach, "Miki"
Published in Paperback by A Fine Line Press (15 January, 1996)
Author: Donna Barr
Amazon base price: $4.95
Average review score:

After years of being the Human Swastika, Kjars gets a soul..
Lovely. Simply lovely. Already a very complex character, Kjars grows a soul and maybe even develops a smidgin of conscience. Time has passed since those wild days in the desert, regaling the Peach band with twisted passages of Mein Kampf. Kjars is no longer the dedicated brownshirt he once was-the War and the Party itself have pretty well beaten that out of him. Now he's stuck leading a rag tag band of Army soldiers through what is left of Germany. He's poorly suited to leadership and no one is more ready to remind him of that than Udo Schmidt, the one constant who has stuck with Kjars through every infuriating moment of the War. The challenge ahead for Kjars is trying to avoid the enemy (the Americans) and keep away from not-so-friendly "friends" (the SS.)

The art is stark and darkly contrasted. Donna Barr expertly paints the mood of paranoia and bitter longing as she asks the difficult question, "If you had lost everything you ever believed in, could you still do the right thing?" Kjars doesn't have anything more to give and when the order comes down to execute civilian prisoners, he's got very little reason to resist...

Donna Barr outdoes herself with Miki. Read it read it read it. Even if you've never read any other Desert Peach books, Miki is a fascinating, rewarding journey into the human heart. War brings out the worst in most, but for once, it brings out the best in Kjars.

The "Best Dressed Man's" fashion cordinator
Time Magazine voted Rommel "The Desert Fox" as the century's "Best Dressed Man" but, we know who was picking out his daily ensembles, his pretty younger brother the 'cheerful' "Desert Peach". "The Desert Peach", lovely Fruit of the sands never fails to amuse and this is a wonderful introduction to him. As his "origin story" I can think of no better way to start the "Peach" series. Plus, its a good "coming out" story. The author has great command of history, horses, military life and German culture (she should, she's a German American who met her husband while serving in the Army and is also an acomplished horsewoman)and I give her extra points for her German-to-English footnotes and historical humor. Proving she's not only witty but, also intelligent. So, to those who already know the "Peach", here's a look back at the good old, bad old days. And to those who've not yet met him, here's a fine how-do-ya-do. Enjoy!

donna barr does it again!
throughout the desert peach, donna barr has explored the human side of the german army during world war ii. with this issue, members of the 469th are found struggling to surivive in a ravaged germany. accompanied by a war refugee, the main characters (udo schmidt and kjars winzig) encounter the ss, concentration camp detainees, and the us army. never the best of friends, these men find themselves depending upon each other to survive these encounters without losing their humanity.

Your children will love it
I am 34 years old, and vividly remember this book. I remember that it was in our school library and I would check it out over and over. The librarian actually told me that I had to let someone else check it out.The story and the illustrations are wonderful for elementary school children.

Don and Donna Go To Bat
I am 39 and this book is still firmly entrenched in my brain. It was the first book I ever wrote a book report on for class. The story is about twin brother and sister. The brother plays baseball and the sister feels left out. On the day of the big championship game the brother comes down sick with the flu. The sister is an identical twin when she puts her hair under her cap. Donna plays in the game unsuspectingly and.... you should read the book to catch the ending. It's a wonderful book for youngsters.

Supreme Child's Book
Don and Donna Go To Bat is a wonderful book for children to learn about facing up to your own fears to help someone you care for. My love for baseball came from reading this book. Never in my life has a book had such an effect on life.

Donna Summer: An Unauthorized Biography

very interesting
i found this book at a public library 15 years ago and it is still there. i believe this book was written for preteen or teen because it was pretty thick and full of photos. it mostly covered summer's career up to 1983. i am a early donna summer fan and i really do not care for anything past the mid eighties so this book was a gem. i read it four times and i wish that i could have my own copy. it was that great.

Not the last dance
The authors present a refreshing and accurate story about a very real Donna. The story really shows how driven and talented the superstar is and how she worked very hard to develop her talent despite external influences. Overall, the message the reader is left with is that Donna has always had a great deal of integrity. A lot of insight is given to the earlier stages of her life as a child, teenager, and young adult in Europe, all of which formed the foundation for her phenomenal success. A great read that ends way too soon. A sequel is definitely in order. Read this book and everything you ever thought about Donna will be turned on its ear.

Tells The Story behind the Star and her Artistry
In this short, compelling book, Haskins tells the life story of Diva Donna Summer; from her humble beginnings as a child in Boston, singing in the Grant AME Baptist church and dreaming of stardom, to her budding musical theatre career in Germany, her first success with "Love To Love You Baby", her loves, aspirations and most of all, music. This book separates myth from fact and shows the reader the true person underneath the trappings of stardom. Donna Summer, touted as a sex goddess was really a shy, private person who knew she was going to be a star but wasn't prepared for the stress and pressure of a mega career. But Summer overcomes the obstacles and in the 80's begins towards a new watermark. The only flaw with this book is it ends in 1982; that was just the beginning for Donna. She won the Grammy in 98 for Best Dance Song, "Carry On" and she's mounting a musical play based on her life, "Ordinary Girl". But alas, you won't read any of these newer developments in Haskins book.

Dressed for Death: A Guido Brunetti Mystery

Intriguing
The finding of a disfiguraded corpse dressed in woman clothes forced detective Guido Brunetti to investigate - from the lower districts where male prostitution is a daily routine to the higher districts of Venice where lawyers and financers living a double life used the male prostitute to satisfy their vices and corrupted planes - to find the killer of the faceless corpse. A very well written novel that keep the reader intrigued since the first pages.

Leon goes 'high fashion' in this thriller
It's not that Venetians are unaccustomed to discovering a body in and about one of its many canalas, but when this particular body is found to be that of the director of a local, influential, bank, eyebrows and curiosity are raised. And even more so when this body is presented as a transvestite prostitute! All Venice is in an uproar!

Donna Leon returns triumphantly in another of her brilliant Commissario Guido Brunetti episodes, and the reader is not left for one second in anything but gripping suspense. Leon, an American writer who is enjoying incredible success at writing police procedurals set in Italy, presents "the Pearl of the Adriatic" in more than all its glory. With Brunetti, she explores not only its grandeur but reveals the city's mud as well.

Just as the body is not as it seems, Brunetti finds that there is even more deception to come. Two more bodies are found that are related to this case, and the author examines more than just police procedures here, as she seems to do in all of her novels. The various aspects of Venetian life are examined, the corruption of government officials, the criminal activities (covering a wide range of subjects from drugs to illecit sex trade), and, of course, the personal lives of her central characters. She has a great knack for character presentation that make them more than just "interesting and lovable"! I have found few authors who do so with such dedication and thoroughness.

Leon, who lives in Italy, certainly seems to know her subjects well, beginning with the first Brunetti novel, "Death at La Fenice." None of her books should be missed, not simply because she has a glorious setting, or fantastic characters, or plots that are convincing, but simply because she is a good read!

A engrossing story in an entrancing setting
Picked up an English copy of this with the title "The Anonymous Venetian" in a bookstore in Venice. It was a fascinating experience not only to read such a wellcrafted mystery but to be able, literally, to walk along with Inspector Brunett as he investigated this murder. The twists and turns of the plot are neatly matched by the twists and turns of the calles and canals of its location.

simple and perfect
the ingredients in all of Donna Hay's books are simple but the flavors collide perfectly. Just looking at the photographs is inspiring enough to start cooking. I own 2 of her books and am now addicted to getting the full series because i know that each book pays particular attention to quality.

Adventures in Food
I bought both The New Cook and Entertaining during the same month due to the interesting food pairings and fusion of different ethinic cooking styles. I have not been dissapointed. Most of the recipes are extremely simple to make yet real crowd pleasers! (I feel confident enought with this cookbook to make a recipe without taste-testing it first - not many cookbooks inspire me to do this!) I am an avid cook (mostly vegetarian, some seafood.) The variety and richness of the flavors in this book continually inpsire my desire to create in the kitchen, and i really enjoy just browsing through it to learn about interesting food pairings and unusual combinations. If you'd like a little food adventure, this one's for you!

Pure Inspiration
I was an average 'throw it together - if it's edible, good enough' cook. Then my brother (an excellent cook) gave me this book for Christams. I was truly inspired with the photography (every recipe is beautifully presented), so much so that I now take pride in producing chic, simple dishes that are simply delicious. If you consider cooking a chore and need inspiration, this book is a must!

The Fields of Bannockburn: A Novel of Christian Scotland from Its Origins to Independence
Published in Paperback by Moody Publishers (1900)
Author: Donna Fletcher Crow
Amazon base price: $19.99
Average review score:

Totally engrossing!
I want to go to Scotland! The Fields of Bannockburn was totally engrossing. I was caught up in the book, by its history and its geography. I just had to know where all these places were! I'd read for a while, and then a placename would send me to the Scotland sections of Nicholson's Guide to Great Britain. The storyteller, Hamish, as the vehicle for the history of Scotland, was very believable as were the other characters. I had no trouble relating to Mary's quandry between her fiance back home in the States and Gareth in Scotland; it could have been me. Were I still teaching Language Arts in junior high school, I would and could recommend this book to that grade level. It would be a great adjunct to history, reading, and creative writing. What discussions one could have! What dreams of travel it could inspire: it would make one want to see the historic sites. My travel plans definitely will be guided by this book. Give it a try-you might want to go to Scotland, too.

Historical Fiction Above and Beyond
This book goes well beyond your average historical fiction. Donna Fletcher Crow splendidly links four pieces of Scotland's history with a modern day line. Be sure to follow up on the modern day characters when they go to Ireland in The Banks of the Boyne.

Rewarding Read
Very well written account of Scottish christian history - a lovely perspective of the most influential characters. I'd love to read more of her work - this is meaty and substantive.
