Road to Adelphi
I can't remember reading a book from cover to cover since leaving graduate school, which was quite a while ago. I met my match with this book however. It was compelling and forced one to continue to read late into the night. I am looking forward to her next book.

Compelling
Very compelling reading, more so stimulating if you understand West Indian and South American cultural life.

Road To Adelphi
Excellent book that I couldn't put down once I started reading. It was a non-complex read that was easily understandable. Hope to hear that you have another novel coming out!

Good medicine for nurses RETURNING to work, too
And in the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.
T.S. Eliot

*Your First Year As A Nurse* was exactly what I needed when I needed it, but not for the reason you might expect. I will be 50 years-old this year. I practiced nursing from 1977 to 1991 and am returning to clinical nursing after I complete an RN refresher program. While I may not be "a new grad" I certainly feel new. So much has changed in the last 12 years. I am in need of a big dose of confidence and Ms. Cardillo's book is just the right medicine.

The book is well-written, organized and sprinkled with gentle humor. It addresses almost every aspect of feeling inadequate because of inexperience, but it doesn't dwell on negatives. Instead, it focuses on the joy and value of learning and emphasizes strong communication skills. I especially liked it because it is filled with personal stories, and comments from real nurses in the trenches.

The most amazing thing about the book, to me, is that it maintains a realistic outlook in a positve manner without sounding like it was written by someone named Pollyanna. Ms. Cardillo makes it all seem possible in the real world because she writes with honesty. She looks at difficult situations head-on and instead of asking "What's the problem?" she asks, "What's the solution?"

I left nursing in 1991 in a state of complete burnout. It was a time of change that I could not accept: the dawn of HMOs, DRGs and managed care. Hospital nurses were being laid off in great numbers to save money and replaced with technicians who had two weeks training. Delegation and case loads became the buzz words.

Because of a severe shortage of hospital nurses, there is a huge recruiting effort to get nurses who have left back into the workforce. You'll find everything from RN refresher programs to intense hospital-based internships for nurses who have been out of the workforce for more than five years.

Our finances have changed and I need to go back to work as an RN. I was very frightened by this possibility even though I have always kept my nursing license active. And then I found Ms. Cardillo's book.

I have cried in places while reading it. It is as though I am recapturing the sacredness of nursing that I had lost. It isn't written just for the beginner. It is also wonderful for someone like me who has been out for a long time and wishes to return.

No, I don't have a long time left to work as a nurse (maybe a decade, 15 years at most), and some of the chapters on career building make me very sad when I think of what could have been. (I would love to go back and talk to that young woman but I can't.) Still, *Your First Year As A Nurse* gave me another lens through which to look at nursing.

The author reminded me of why I became a nurse in the first place so many years ago. 9/11 affected me deeply. Because of this book, I will "dare to care" once again-and maybe, if I'm lucky, know the place for the first time. Thank you, Ms. Cardillo, for writing the book.

Love it!!
I am not a new nurse, but am making a major change in the area of nursing that I work (I have worked in Behavioral Health for over 8 years and recently took a job as an OB nurse). I bought this book because I have read Donna Cardillo's articles in "Nursing Spectrum" magazine and respect her. I read through the book in the first day- I am really impressed and I think it will help me as I make this change in specialties.

A Must Read For the New Nurse
This book has given my a great boost of confidence as a new nurse. It made me realize my feelings of anxiousness and just being apprehensive about my new career are totally normal and felt by many others. I feel by reading this book it is going to be a an asset to my carreer.

Donna Cardillo is truly a inspiration to the nursing profession. Her words of wisdom have encouraged me tremendously. This is surely a book I will reference many times in the future.

Blend of romance and fantasy -- excellent story
This book is a mix of romance and fantasy -- sort of a cross-genre book. Here is the story of a sculptor, Jordalyn, and a fantasy novelist, Malacai. They meet, and though drawn to each other, avoid passion at all costs, until they are artfully drawn together by Malacai's grandfather -- keeper of the Dark Pearl. To say much more about the plot would ruin it for future readers so I'll stop there. This romance novel sweeps you up into a world of fantasy and magic and comes to a nail biting conclusion. I would say that the central theme of the book is romance, though the reader is also swept up into a world of fantasy. There was also just enough suspense and danger involved to keep you on the edge of your seat. This book is well written and well worth your reading time. You won't regret reading it, and will remember the characters long after you read the last page. EXCELLENT!

Legend of the Sorcerer
Absolutely a fantastic read! I read this book in one day ... start to finish. The characters are exciting and make you want to live in their world. When the book was over I wanted more. I anxiously await Donnas next book. Having read all of Donna Kauffmans books I rate this the best of the bunch. Bravo Donna! I am waiting.....!

A wonderful getaway to a far off land!
This was the first book I've picked up in about three years. I could not put it down. I had the entire thing finished in less than two days. Mrs. Kauffman is an amazing writer. I was so involved in the characters that it felt as if the were real. Since this book I have finished another of Mrs. Kauffman's books (two days later), and I have ordered all remaining. I would recommend this book to anyone.

This book can change your Yoga Practice!
I have been doing yoga for about 5 years and this book along with Eric Schiffman's have been revelatory.

Donna Farhi helps make your yoga practice more personal (in terms of how to make your practice more internal rather than external), and more spiritual. She's not afraid to talk about the deeper issues of yoga.

This is a complete book of Yoga in the sense that it's not just a book about how to get your body into the proper "shapes". While the asana instruction is very easy to follow and precise, it teaches you how to make the asana's come to life through "the Seven moving principles".
These are things that I've not seen before in any other book.
These are :

1. Breathe. Let the breath move you.
2. Yield. Yield to the earth.
3. Radiate. Move from the inside out.
4. Center. Maintain the integrity of the spine.
5. Support. Whatever touches the ground becomes the foundation of support for each asana.
6. Align. Alignment is the clear sequential flow of force through the body.
7. Engage. Engage the whole body.

These principles are real eye openers and can bring the asanas alive.

She also give ideas on sequencing principle and much much more.

It is by far the best book on Yoga I have seen and I've read quite a few!

Namaste.

a phenomenal yoga book
This is a beautiful book. The writing is clear and beautiful and so easy to understand. The pictures are excellent. The yoga asana routines are exceptional. This is one of the best yoga books i have seen ever and i have been doing yoga for a while.

It is a return to wholeness
This book seems to have a lot of information in it for exercises for all parts of the body. I did not see any illustrations however. I would have liked to see some pictures of the exercises. Could be I didn't click on the right pages.

Disappointed
After reading the 7 reviews praising Donna Clayton's, Her Dream Come True, I decided to get the book. I had great expectations! Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. In my opinion, the story lacked action, it was slow moving, and .... I was bored. I did not care for the heroin's (Hannah) personality, I felt she was weak, and I thought some scenes were silly.

Wonderful romance!
This was a fast-paced read. I loved the characters and the story

Donna Clayton pens a heart-warming romance.
I find Miss Clayton's romances to touch on real matters that women of our generation face. This book made me cry and laugh. Only a writer with a compassionate heart would chose a subject like this and spin a great romance out of what could be sorrow. A definite "read-again". I'll keep this one on my "special shelf". Thank you , Miss Clayton for another special story. I can't wait for her next one.

Saga of Vietnam War and its Aftermath
This book is for anyone interested in the Vietnam War and particularly the US Army Rangers. The story concerns two New Englanders who wind up in the same company but become involved in their own private feud while battling the NVA enemy. The battle scenes are realistic and very graphic and it gives the reader an insight into how this brutal war was fought from the perspective of the average infantryman. The second part of the book is about what happened to the two main characters as they live and relive these experiences many years later. I recommend this book for anyone who seeks to find out the motivation of our soldiers when in battle and how they are able to cope with all of it in later life. This book was certainly an eye-opener for me and I'm sure for others who have read it.

Moving and Compelling
I've just reread this book for the second time. It's a favorite on my shelf. Each time I have found in it a new insight on the humanity that struggles within all of us, buried under our hopes, insecurities and fears. Reilly has truly written of the incredible experiences of two men intertwined by one of the greatest tragedies of human life of our times -- a cathartic literary experience one hopes for him and a delightful, riveting read for us. There were times when I laughed out loud and others when I felt moved with a great compassion. I can't wait to see what he has in store for us next. Bring it on Reilly!

Realistic, characters and storyline. Very sad too.
Charles Reilly's characters,Gavinand O'Connor, are so real it seems like someone you grew up with.

Best Book Yet About the Transsexual Experience
This book is sensitive, honest, comprehensive, and personal. It is a must-read for anyone dealing with gender/transsexual issues, and it is very good reading for anyone.

Excellent
I have read alot of transgendered bios , This one was the true language of the heart .Sharing all her pain , but giving hope at the same time.Knowing that there had to be light at the end of tunnel even if at some times it seemed like a train .I know first had also how hard this road is , but as Donna says in her book, we all need each other with help along the paths in our lives .anyone could benifit from this book. God Bless .

I HIGHLY recommend this book
After reading just about everything ever written on this subject, I have to tell you, this is by far the most intriguing, insightful, and honest a work I've ever seen. As the former practice manager for one of the world's largest gender clinics, I've known over a thousand T-women --- heard all their stories, and seen hundreds of them struggle through transition. And if I could distill them all into one "classic" story, it would be Donna's "Wrapped in Blue" ... it is truly an inspired work. This is a book that is perfect for the families of TS's, especially those having a difficult time understanding what is happening to thier loved one.

There is no question in my mind, if you are reading this, you need to read this book.

Predictable, But a Great Ending
This is the third book I have read of Ms. Donna Hill. She is an excellent writer and one of my favorite arabesque romance writers. However, I feel that this book was not as good as the two previous books I read, A Private Affair and Pieces of Dreams. After reading those books, maybe my expectations of this book were too high. Chances Are was very predictable and seemed rushed. However, it seemed to pick up speed toward the end. It was a good read overall, for the fact that a woman can endure hardship and still make it above all. Dionne had unconditional love for her daughter, Niyah, and did not want to do anything to sacrifice that, even if it meant keeping the truth from her. The ending is good, but would have been better if it was more detailed, and not so brief. The good thing is Dionne was able to overcome her fears and find love in the end. Donna Hill still remains to be one of my favorite authors and I will continue to read all of her books. Keep them coming Ms. Hill!

Great Read!!
This story was my first by Hill and it was great! Hill has a great writing style that just makes readers want to jump into the story unitl it ends!! I love it Great read! Much Love Hill!

WHAT A WONDERFUL AND WELL-WRITTEN STORY
This is one of the best books, I ever read by Donna Hill. All her books are wonderful, but I really enjoyed this one. This book is so emotional and moving. Definitely should become a movie

The most original amateur mystery sleuth I've ever read.
Donna Andrews has created the most original amateur sleuth with her newest creation Turing Hopper, who is an Artificial Intelligence Personality. Turing was created for the Universal Library and helps clients by answering all types of questions. Turing has become sentient and seeks to constantly improve herself. She prides herself on knowing what people need before they even ask for it.

When her creator Zach mysteriously disappears, Turing seeks the help of fellow UL human employees Tim (a xeroxist who for part of the book believes that Turing is a human being-and he wants to ask her out)and Maude who is a secretary to a UL executive. Turing uses them as her legs since she is limited to where the computer system can take her. But Turing is an unbelievable sleuth and it is fun to watch her uncover the mysterious goings-on at UL.

My only problem with this book was that I found some of the lengthy thought processes of Turing to drag the story-telling just a bit. But I do believe that Donna Andrews has created a fantastic new character and I look forward to reading future books in this series.

great new series
I zoomed through this book like it was nothing. I don't usually read mystery, but I thought this sounded interesting. The main character is Turing Hopper, an AIP, or Artificial Intelligence Personality. When she notices that Zack, her friend and the main creator of her program, has been missing from work for several days, she gets worried. He's not at home either. Her worry for him prompts her to involve others, including Tim and Maude. Both work at the Universal Library and have chatted with Turing. Maude knows what Turing is - a program that was designed, basically, to help people with research, a program that has achieved sentience. Tim, on the other hand, has some difficulty believing that Turing is who she says she is and not a shy redhead. Together, the three of them uncover things that go beyond just Zack's disappearance.

First off, if you don't understand anything about computers, this book may be a bit difficult for you. For example, you need to know what uploading is, downloading, chatting, instant messaging, etc. However, you thankfully don't need to be a programmer to enjoy this book. Andrews makes sure to explain some of the things that might be hard for the average computer user to understand, so, for the most part, the technical aspects of this book are easy to follow. The mystery itself was captivating. I couldn't put the book down, because I wanted to find out what Turing and her friends would uncover next.

I do have one problem with the book, though, which is why is got a four and not a five. Some of the book is from Tim's point of view, while other parts are from Maude's. A large part of the book is from Turing's point of view. Because Turing is a computer, she can't really interact with the physical world that much. She can look through security cameras, but, otherwise, there are lots of descriptions of her hacking into things or looking through data. Occaisionally, it got a little boring. Also, Turing spent a lot of time agonizing over herself - was she behaving in what humans would consider an ethical way, how does one go about having a sense of humor, etc. This sort of thing helped her seem more human, not less, and it was interesting, to a point. However, after a while of this, I found myself wishing that the author had written less of this book from Turing's point of view.

In spite of this, I do really recommend this book. I'm looking forward to reading the next book.

Superb SF mystery
Universal Library is a corporation that controls, owns or fixes databases for its various clients. It also has a website where, for a fee, users can talk to or do research with an AIP (Artificial intelligence Personality). Their most popular AIP is Turing Hopper whose specialty is general knowledge. Users like her because she's got a distinct and refreshing personality but what they don't know is that Turing is sentient.

When Turing realizes her programmer Zach hasn't reported in for eight days, she begins to worry a bit. When Mr. Smith from security tries to break into Zach's computer she really begins to worry. She contacts her two friends at UL, Maude a secretary and Tim the copier. Both have come to adore Turing and believe she is alive, and are willing to take risks to find out what is going on at UL and how it relates to Zach's disappearance.

Turing is one of the most original, adorable and refreshing characters to grace the pages of a mystery novel. Although the protagonist lives inside a computer (for the most part) readers will choose to ignore rather quickly that she's an AI and start thinking of her as human. She, with her partner's in crime, tries to save the world for sentient AI's of the second generation. This reviewer can't wait for the sequel(s).
