Still one of the Best
This book first appeared in 1966, and has been through numerous reprints - mine is a 1989 reprint from Littlefield Adams. Word roots are fragments of words (prefixes, suffixes and elements - also known as segmental morphemes) that when assembled give rise to a word. This book is about those fragments - providing two lists, a list of "Roots-to-English" and a reverse list called "English-to-Roots". These lists total 250 pages of relatively small print. BUT what makes this book especially wonderful is the 21 exercises that follow the two word lists. These exercises are very well thought out and enable the reader to explore words in great detail. For example, in the exercise titled Words from One Root, the root GEN is defined as "cause, birth, kind, race". There then follows a list of 50 definitions - such as "to cause", "relating to heredity", "one who is born brilliant", "a major class or kind", "of a true kind" (The answers are generate, genetics, genius, genus, genuine). Overall, this is a wonderful book - highly recommended.

Business Law Explained for the Intelligent Layman
I was given this book for free by someone who had used it for a college course and didn't want it. I couldn't believe the person wanted to throw it away. This book tells all the basics of business law. If you don't know anything about business law, read it. It is a good book for beginners. I know I will keep it for a reference book for a long time. I am starting my own business and I refer to it all the time. Not only does the book tells just about everything you need to know about business law, it gives actual descriptions of court cases to illustrate the points of each section. A very good buy & an excellent reference book!

Experimental Techniques in Condensed Matter Physics at Low Temperatures
Published in Paperback by Perseus Book Group (1994)
Authors: Robert C. Richardson and Eric N. Smith
Amazon base price: $56.00
Average review score:

A great aid to the hands-on low temperature experimentalist
With contributions by faculty, graduate students, and postdocs at Cornell, this book is a collection of very practical recipes written in a language easily accessible to a senior undergraduate or a beginning graduate student. If you are planning a novel experiment, building a new setup, or troubleshooting or adapting an existing piece of equipment, this book is an invaluable tool. It covers most of the little details which nobody mentions in respectable PRL articles but without the understanding of which nothing will work and your boss will not be happy. The book also has most of the important material property tables which you'd be scrambling to collect from all over. This book should be a reference to any low-temperature experimentalist, ahead of all other texts.

Outstanding in every way!
WOW! Looking for a good murder, action, adventure novel with a twist of the paranormal? Then, look no further than FATE.

This book had me hooked from the first page and I read it in a matter of hours. A writer begins having nightmares about a horrible car crash and then discovers they aren't really nightmares. She's experiencing another woman's death through her eyes. The events leading up to, during, and afterward, are knock-your-socks-off suspense and intrigue.

Mr. Smith is a phenomenal writer and I look forward to trying some his other titles including THE PREY, available at Amazon.com. Whew!

An Excellent Resource
I used this book in a mythology class project and it was a great help. The book reveals a great deal of the Winnebago tradition through the history detailed in the stories. This book is well worth the money and is a necessary piece to any Native American collection.

Clear, radical, dynamic
At last a book on globalisation that avoids vague generalisations and dismal futurology. Robert Went presents the main economic arguments from an accessible, non-dogmatic Marxist perspective. This book would be a great tool for anyone involved in anti-globalisation mobilisations.

MEMORABLE LETTERS
These letters written to his family by a foot soldier serving in France during World War I graphically remind us that war can not only be hell, it is hell.

American raised and professionally a scholar at Stanford University Robert Pellissier nonetheless felt the pull of his native country, France. This may well have been his reason for enlisting in the French army in 1914. He was sent to the front where he fought in the Alsace mountains.

Masterfully written these documents relate in gripping detail life and death in the dank, frigid trenches where French soldiers are bombarded every day by thousands of German shells. Pellissier tells his family of the horrific sights he encounters almost hourly, and of the ill treatment of civilians by the Germans. His professorial eye misses nothing of the bravery or the cowardice.

He was wounded on August 29, 1916, and died soon after. His letters were penned from officer training school, from the front lines, and from the hospital. All are testimony to a man who loved and died for his native land.
