Words to Propel You Forward
High achievers who could have quit because it wasn't easy. People who found success despite the failures along the way. Persistent seekers who found the rose beyond the thorns. That's what this book is about. It says to me, don't stop -- that's the only way you fail; move ahead through the thunder and lightning and you can find what you search for...

Flohr and Smith Seamlessly Reveal the Art of Teaching Music
The best in pedagogy meets kindergarten in Flohr's and Smith's work, where they explore the ways in which one can tell stories with music. In this fine and informative piece, Flohr and Smith relate their knowledge of how to approach the art of teaching music to children. Through creativity and thoughtful thinking, they portray this art as easy as a singing a lullaby. It is not until you realize that they have unraveled techniques, which will redefine and reinvigorate the ways in which music is transmitted to children, that you realize that a masterpiece is at hand. I recommend and think this work to be beyond reproach. Many a person in music studies, teaching and even child psychology can benefit from the techniques and ideas mapped out by Flohr and Smith. A must read!

Indispensable
Three individually published volumes in the Past Masters Series are now published together. Written by three authorities on their subjects, this volume offers a very good balance between the lives and the work of three great economists. Indispensable for the beginner, the three essays are original scholarly contributions to the history of economic thought. They are also a delight to read.

Awesome history Lesson
This is a great book for reading about the relationship of the US and Japan in the years prior to WWII (It ends with the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor). It describes Japanese strategic aims in a historical context, as well as the pressures that the US was under on both sides of the Pacific to enter WWII. It gives a great accounting of our relations in China during the same period.
A lot of people have heard about FDR's steering us into the war. Read this book if you want to know how and why he did it.

Accountable Actions
Finally, an unbiased look at the Trial of the Century. The authors managed to keep from using the race card, innuendos, and Hollywood hype to tell just the facts. This book gives the reader a honest look into that fateful night.

If you love to catch trout.....
This book is perhaps the best source of trout stream information I have come across. Most books of this type tend to tell you about their experiences on a particular stream, but this book offers you the opportunity to experience it for yourself. The book has been an incredible resource for me in finding smaller trout streams and lesser-known "hot-spots". BUY THIS BOOK! I can't stress this enough.

A True American Journey
This is an incredible book co-authored by Bob and Elizabeth Dole. The book is very honest and heartwarming because they each get a chance to tell their side of the story. I know that Mr. Dole has a hard time when it comes to talking about his injury during World War II and in the book, he describes what happened in Italy in 1945 so vividly that I thought I was watching the whole thing happen all over again while I was reading this book. I admires Mrs. Dole for being a trail-blazer as one of the few women to graduate from Harvard Law School the the mid 1960's when women were expected to go to school and learn how to be homemakers and they were expected to settle down, get married, and raise a family. Instead of following the conventional rules, Mrs. Dole goes out and overcomes many obstacles. I admire the Doles for sharing their story. I brought this book in the summer of 1996, just a few weeks before the Republican Convention and after reading this book, I realized that this is a side of Bob and Elizabeth Dole that the media does not show. The book was well worth it!

Great for facts or for a good story...
This book gives detailed facts about the lives and careers of women in various sports. This book is good if the reader is looking for specific facts about a particular sport or female athlete, and it is also an excellent, historical "story".

My Opinion
The War With Grandpa was a pretty good book, but it wasn't my favorite. It's not one of my top ten favorites, but it was pretty funny. I liked it when Grandpa pulled that dirty trick on Peter in the morning on a school day. It was pretty funny, but I wouldn't want it to happen to me because it was still pretty dirty. I liked the book a lot because it was comical and sad. This book also taught me to respect and love your elder relatives . I recommend this book to any other person that likes to read, but that's just my opinion.

The War With Grandpa
WOW! this book is very good. I would recommend this book to people that love their room because the main character, Peter, does. His grandpa came to live with Peter and his family because his wife died and he was all alone. He sold his house down in Florida and came to live with them. Peter's mom and dad gave Grandpa Peter's room. Peter did some stupid stuff, like getting into guerilla warfare with his grandpa to get his room back. I think that is weird, but he did like his grandpa. You'll have to read the book to find out whether Peter gets his room back or not.
Jacob-third grader at Everett School

Technically excellent, poorly written and edited
This is the handbook to have for writing ASP applications. The first six chapters cover everything you need to write basic applications that dynamically generate web pages. The following chapters cover specific areas such as database access, site personalization, optimizations, and interacting with other applications. If you want to build web-enabled distributed applications on a Microsoft NT platform, you will need more than this book, but this book is essential. From a technical standpoint, I would give the book 5 stars. However, apparantly WROX forgot to edit it. It is certainly understandable that authors selected for their technical knowledge may require a little help in grammar, syntax, sentence structure, and writing style. It is unfortunate that WROX chooses not to provide this help, but rather to ship the books as soon as they are complete. WROX has an outstanding group of authors who cover every essential NT technology as well as many cross-platform technologies. I hope that WROX will take a closer look at the quality of the final product.
Well done, in Plain English
Want to learn to build your own amazon.com? It's in this book. You'll have to be proficient with ansi-SQL and/or ADO 2.0 in order to really take advantage of the information presented here. But overall it's a well presented book on ASP. If you plan to buy this and want to build true interactive sites with full database integration, pick up ADO 2.0 Programmer's Reference and Instant SQL Programming also from WROX Press, then you'll have a strong book base to build powerful web sites such as amazon.com. The only drawback is its concentration on VBScript rather than ECMAscript (aka JavaScript). Try and stay away from the VBScript presented in this book and use ECMAScript for the examples instead. The reason is because Microsoft and Netscape are finally agreeing on ECMAScript standards that will be much easier to translate into Client-side Cross-browser code if you use it for Server-side code now. As ECMAscript matures it will present a much more flexible environment to work in than VBScript will (much the same way that C compared to Visual Basic does now). I don't have a book recommendation for ECMAscript, I haven't found a good reference yet, the info on the web has been my resource. But if you're desparate for a reference, WROX Press also has a handbook called Instant JavaScript that isn't too bad, but has lots of room more improvement. Happy Building! Ciao -C
As good as ASP gets
If you have read the first edition of this book, this second edition may look familiar. However, the book has more pages - about 1000 (edition 1 had about 600). There are several additions, especially topics on MTS and Message Queue, which are very good in themselves. "A case study in compatibility" is excellent guide for all, to develop for a varied set of browsers. A whole chapter is dedicated to transactions, a prelude to the chapters on E-Commerce case study and MTS.
The best part is an extended reference at the end of the book, and this time JScript is also covered.
I have a few comments about this book
1. The book should have been thinner, with some chapters on CD-ROM
2. You must be at intermediate level to use this book, else you could get lost easily. Beginners, don't yet touch this unless you know VBScript
In short, without a doubt, the best book ever written on ASP.
