The Miracle of Forgetness

Excellent Sequel
The Miracle of Forgetness is simply amazing. A fitting sequel to Baptists at Our Barbecue. Because of this book I hurt with fits of laughter each time someone shares the story of the bridge in sacrament meeting. Read this book. WARNING: If you have a health condition, consult your doctor before reading. Must be able to handle zany police officers, alien encounters, natural disasters, pepsi addictions, people named after wood, rug sales women, and most importantly, red benches. I highly recommend this book "with every fiber of my being."

Funny, Funny, Funny
This book is a great novel about wacky characters that you know exist in the world, but can never find them. This is a very humorous novel and the writing is great.

Hilarious, fulfilling, and addicting!
How does Smith do it? He obviously has a deep appreciation and love for Mormon culture and doctrine. He manages to make me laugh outloud on a crowded subway. Slapstick, yes, and his characters are totally unbelievable. But I love it.

Mister Roberts
One of the (If not the best war plays). Touching and humourous. Truly a maaaad play.

Hilarious, yet has historical facts
Mister Roberts had the right amount of amusement and sadness, which is the main reason I really liked it. At first I was not sure how I was going to enjoy it. The first chapter started out fairly slow, but this was just because it was an introduction of characters. The rest of the book was much clearer with this introduction. Throughout the entire novel there was a lot of humor. It was a fast read with all this comedy. I really admire Heggen's writing style because he incorporated wit with war. Heggen gave a more amusing account of the war than other factual book could have.

A great "Sea Story"
This is a fabulous story. Heggen expertly captures the monotony, the cynicism, the bravado and depression of life at sea. The story ranges from hilarious to heartbreaking, and it's sad Heggen ended his own life before writing again. I find it amazing that this book is not on the CNO's professional reading list.

A Season for the Spirit: Readings for the Days of Lent

Profoundly spiritual and practical Christianity
This is the second year I have used Martin Smith's book at Lent His profound insights into the psyche of persons and his practical applications to Christian living continue to deepen my own ability to "walk the walk" with Christ. His extraordinary spiritual insights, especially his explanation of the self as a group - the "selves of the self" - likening each of us to the demoniac that Jesus heals. I would recommend this book to anyone seeking a deeper understanding of the self/selves that God loves. A book for all seasons.

Martin L. Smith is a blessing!
This book helped my Lent to be very powerful and profound. I felt that it had been written just to answer my questions and to challenge me to grow in my spiritual life. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to have a prayerful Lent.

Deeply spiritual yet completely oriented to real life
I have used this book for my Lenten devotions over a number of years. I discover something fresh and wonderful every time I read it. Fr. Smith's journey in and with the Holy Spirit is not an exercise in escaping from the world around us, but an invitation to become more aware of how the Reign of God is active here and now. Although geared towards Lent, the readings are well worth perusing any time of the year.

It is also good to review geology
I chose this book for my final project in geology class because I was interested in Yellowstone National parks though I have never been to, and this book was very good not only to read but also to review my studying in the class. Yellowstone and Grand Teton ground systems such as ground movements and heating systems are covered and also advanced my studying. Actually, I had totally no knowledge about geologic activities before I studied in the class, so this book was also really good to review my studying. In addition, this book introduces these parks view points with beautiful and colored pictures, so this book also can be used for a tourbook. It is no doubt that I will go to these parks with this book!

An indispensible visitor guide
A friend loaned me this book two months ago. I haven't returned it yet. It is simply the best book on these two parks that I have ever read. The authors accurately portray the very considerable geological power present in each park, and yet do not manage to make either park a fearful place to be avoided. Instead, their writing is a persuasive invitation to visit these wonderful manifestations of nature for an extended period. I was particularly impressed by the visitor's tour set out near the end of the book. I took a part of that tour in 1994, and the narrative is very accurate. I will certainly use my OWN copy of the book when I go back again this autumn. (I don't want anyone to think I don't return borrowed books!) This book is an absolute musthave-mustread for anyone going to the parks or interested in the geological processes that have made the West. Enjoy.

Indiana Jones, Eat Your Heart Out
This treasure will turn "topography" into a household word. Dedicated to a fellow geologist recently killed by an avalance while conducting fieldwork, "Windows" is a slick and dramatic feature presentation of volcanism, earthquakes, and geysers. Superb maps and graphs colorfully illustrate variable stratae formed through the eons. An informal and friendly text is scholarly without being stuffy. The writers establish a tone of substance and humor as they discuss multiple upheavals that created Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons. This is the kind of book that will impress early rock-ologists and even be hoarded by their more secretive, sedimental parents. The writing never "dumbs down" but is lucid with factual attention to landscape formation without snubbing the human astonishment that continually witnesses it. Thanks to geologist Smith and naturalist journalist Seigel, the book is threaded with lively accounts from park rangers, tourists, and waitresses at the Old Faithful Inn. Appeals to romantics and literalists alike. Studded with beautiful, full-color photographs. Every page is hefty and sleek to the touch, a feast for the eye as well as the brain. Kind of a wonder-book for anyone who seeks the phenomenal in terra firma.

An Eclectic Approach
This book bridges eastern and western perspectives on the body to formulate a movement approach to performance that could be the basis for a Stanislavski based acting class or a performance class that is some combination of actors, dancers and performance artists. The exercises are concise, clear and guide the reader through increasinly levels of self-awareness and application of this knowledge to performance.

Feel, Fuse and Follow is Great Technique
This book is great. The concept of feel, fuse and follow integrated me with my body in ways I never thought possible.

Innovative approach
This book was a revelation to me in integrating my physical life with my imagination. The easy to follow explorations guided me from an understanding of my body to new ways of moving and working with a script. I found its focus on breathing and imagery expanded my ability to create a character.

Realistic, and yet gentle
This is another in the American Girls series about Addy Walker, a ten-year-old African-American girl living in the America of 1865. In this story, Addy makes a new friend in the form of M'dear, a kindly old African-American woman whose blind eyes see more than most. Sadly, as Addy learns more about her new life of freedom, she learns more about the racial discrimination that pervades the world around her. It's up to Addy, with M'dear's insights, to see the way forward in such a dark world.

The final chapter is a look at what it growing up was like for African-American children in the America of 1864. Once again, I must praise American Girls for producing such a wonderful book. This story sets out race relations in a no-nonsense way, but without recrimination-it is a true lesson in healing. My eleven-year-old daughter loved this book, with its realistic history and gentle lessons, and I loved it too!

Wonderful addition to children's litterature
This book continues Addy Walker's adventures after successfully escaping her plantation for freedom up North.

Addy continues to be amazed by the opportunities that are so much more broader than those on the old plantation, but also realizes that even "free" states have racial segregation and discrimination. She is no longer the property of slaveowners, but still cannot travel certain places or excercise privlleges that whites in Philadephia are able to use.

With her friend Sarah's encouragement, Addy picks out a birthday. While such an action might seem mundane by today's standards, Addy (like others during slavery) never had a day that was uniquely hers. Taking her time with the big decision, Addy ultimately picks a day that has meaning for her and indeed, the entire nation.

A Lovely Story
Addy, an escaped slave, makes a friend, and worries about segregation. When is Addy's birthday? What can she do about prejudice between blacks and whites? How can she make this birthday a happy one? And can her new friend help her? Find out in this lovely tale.

Encouragement in the Face of Frustration & Adversity
Ever felt like you've reached the end? That things are as bad as they can be? That it just isn't worth it? So have the people who shared their thoughts in this book. And by reading their shared experiences and struggles, you can perhaps see the light at the end of the tunnel. Like the other books in this series, Volume 2 offers encouragement that can satisfy your soul at just the right moment. I read these letters to my kids in hopes that they will always "persist."

Excellent inspiration for anyone with a dream
Inspiring! Encouraging! Amazing!

This book will definitely convince you of the accuracy of the old motto: If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.

As someone who has run into her own share of big brick walls as well as a few incredible successes, I can guarantee this will encourage anyone currently suffering his or her own storm or inspire anyone dithering over a decision to pursue a dream. The book remains a frequently consulted personal source of inspiration to me, as I'm in the midst of a new business venture right now!

a book you've got to read
absolutely fabulous! I have read all 4 books and still go back to read them again. I get such inspiration from them and know if they can overcome their struggles, so can I.

History Speaks!
The author puts the story of the past into words we can understand. Historical figures were "people" just like us with the same problems, sadnesses, troubles, and self-doubt. These "letters" tell us of their discouragement and how they moved past it into success. From their "words" we can perhaps find just what we need to face our dark clouds of adversity. My kids enjoyed each letter and were spurred on to find out even more about some of these people from our past. A great teaching tool...

A book of inspiration and hope!
Storms of Perfection IV is a great book. Every historical hero in this book has a story that inspires and captivates. Each story offers knowledge and courage in obtaining our goals. A must read!

Insight to the past that changes the future.
Often we feel the "heros" found in history are far beyond our reach. It's as though we could never accomplish the things we read about them doing. "Storms 4" changes all that. It places the responsibility for future history directly in our laps. After all, our historical hero figures also had to do laundry, feed kids and go to work, right? Read it... you may end up a hero, too!

No error in his latest Chicago mob/lawyer game
Robert Smith follows up his 1st novel with this exciting and thoughtful second volume of the Frank Doherty trilogy with a masterful story of crime, compassion and local color of Chicago.
It makes me think of seedy world of lawyer-dom and the veiled characters and scenic descriptions. Where's number #3

Another feast for the eyes from Bob Smith!!
Bob Smith, a local practicing attorney and full-time father of three in Elmhurst, Illinois, has written another powerful and compelling work. His first book, Immoral Authority, was a taut and well-written yarn. His second, Catch a Falling Lawyer, exceeded all of my expectations. There will always be an audience for good, solid crime fiction, with ideas and storylines ripped from the headlines, Law and Order-style. But, what Bob Smith does is even more amazing. He does the impossible.

He make me think that lawyers have souls.

4 stars (Highest Rating)!!!
Recommended to all!
