Breathtaking information, deepened my understanding of MBTI.
WOW! New information! I am an avidly interested lay person who, since discovering Myers-Briggs through other popular books on the subject. has used MB informally and superficially for years in day-to-day personal and work settings. But MB had never even crossed my mind as relevant or helpful on really bad days when I or those near me were stressed to the point of being "beside themselves". But this book explains that people feeling, speaking and acting out of character during different kinds (depending on their Type, of course!) of stress can be understood and predicted just as successfully as their preferences, feelings and reactions on a normal, less stressful day can be understood and predicted. The beauty of the inferior function analysis really has to be read to be appreciated. If you are interested in Myers-Briggs, you owe it to yourself to read this book. For me, it was the eye opener of the year! (So far.) Granted, I love Myers-Briggs, but my jaw has not closed since I picked up the book. I am an ISFJ, by the way, living with an ESFP. Thank you, Naomi L. Quenk, for writing this book and thereby lifting the tent canvas up to offer us lay folk a deeper appreciation of the broad applicability and plain old day to day helpfulness of Myers-Briggs personality type theory.

If you use the MBTI... read this book.
This is a jewel of a book. Quenk describes some of the predictable ways our inferior function on the MBTI can get us into trouble and also provide the most intense enrichment. The book brings critical understanding for people who are consistently being undone by their "shadow" and also those in mid life seeking to expand their territory and use their less dominant functions in a more positive way. (written by an INTP by the way

Excellent book on the nature of the inferior functions
This book explains the nature of the eight MBTI functions in their inferior roles when they're exerting an uncharacteristic influence on a person. It briefly summarizes the nature of the functions when they're in the dominant role for purposes of contrast, but that's not the focus of the book. This is to my knowledge the definitive book on the nature of the inferior functions, and together with Lenore Thomson's "Personality Type" which deals with functions in their dominant role, it covers the most important aspects of MBTI. If you're new to MBTI, I recommend reading Lenore Thomson's book before this one. They're both roughly the same quality (excellent), but knowing the nature of the inferior functions isn't as urgent as knowing the nature of the dominant functions. These two books are a must read for anyone interested in MBTI. Naomi L. Quenk (the author) is INFP. I am INTP.

Tasty ideas and colourful pictures to boot!
This book reached far beyond my expectations. All the recipes are very simple and require only about 3 main ingredients. It is very versatile for cooks in all regions of the world (a part of the introduction actually says "If you cannot find the ingredients, use what you have as long as they're the same general colour and texture") - it really emphasizes what Japanese cooking is all about - style and presentation of incredibly tasty foods.
About the only drawback to the book is that it's so brief! After paging through it, I wanted more! Every recipe has a full colour photograph accompanying it, and some even have smaller photos of the steps to making the food. My boyfriend can't cook at all, and even he was able to make things from this book.
This is a must-buy for anyone looking to make their lunches a little more interesting or to inject a little Japanese flair into their cooking. :)

A great book for bentou boxes!
I really want to get this book! I have read through it before and it contains a lot of recipies similar to what my host mom the 2nd time I studied in Japan used to make for her husband and kids. I have other books on the subject, in Japanese, but for Americans, this is really one of the only books available about bentou in english.

Bump up your lunch!
A mouthwatering cookbook. I highly recommend it. It offers some really great ideas to jazz up your lunch. Great photos and easy-to-follow recipes. It's also a fine introduction to Japanese home cooking. Recipes are for one serving, but can easily be multiplied which makes it great when cooking for one or two. They're not only excellent for lunch, but they also make great dinners at home. What more could you ask for from a cookbook?

Prayers That Cover the Concerns that Life Brings Us
The author, Rabbi Naomi Levy, was in the first class to admit women to study for the rabbinate at the Jewish theological Seminary of America. She is the first female rabbi to lead a congregation on the west coast. Her first book, To Begin Again closed each chapter with a prayer. People began using the prayers to help them reach God for the help they needed. Encouraged by the interest people expressed in the prayers, she wrote this book of prayers for many occasions. Each prayer stands alone but the prayers are grouped into twelve sections. The prayers cover the many concerns that life brings to each of us. The prayers are short as if designed to encourage the reader to continue the conversation in a prayer from his own heart.

A Powerful Book
Very inspiring. The topics chosen by Rabbi Levy and the prayers she has composed resonate deeply. I use this book as a constant reference. The prayers are simple and personal. They are useful by themselves but are also wonderful guides to help us find our own voices, spirit and direction to draft our own prayers.

Practical grace.
Rabbi Levy's new book sparkles in the sea of self-help and spiritual books out there in the big wide world. She has the talent and the inclination to do bring spirituality to us in practical ways, helping us to heal the painful split between spiritual belief and "real life."

Might as well order 5 copies for starters because you are going to want to give this one away. Naomi Levi is the voice of practical grace, and I can't think of a better gift than that.

If you have an attic, don't dare read this book in it!
One of the scariest books I've ever read. It had everything, horror, pure dread, it kept me up at night. I loved the plot twist and the unexpected ending. Definitely one of my all time favorites.

the scariest book I've ever read.
deceptively simple but with a twist that will send you through the roof. Starting out as a simple, yet frightening ghost story - the author adds a maddening twist that you just can't see coming -- but when it does -- you'll bolt up and say "damn!" -- from that point -- it just gets more and more intense.

without a doubt -- the scariest, most twisted book I've ever read --- needless to say -- I LOVED IT.

The scariest book you'll ever read.
This is truly one of the creepiest, most frightening books you'll ever run across. Aycliffe is an excellent writer. I read a lot, and this is one of the best I've run across. Definitely not for the faint of heart.

Poky is absolutely adorable!
My beagle looks EXACTLY like Poky. I have never seen an artist's version of a more adorable dog than Poky. His adventures are always sweet and brighten up my day. I loved these books when I was about three and my mom and dad read them to me. I still love them even though I am older. I wish they were more widely available. It is REALLY important to teach kids to love and respect animals. After school every day I volunteer at an animal rescue shelter with my older brother and his girlfriend. The things I have seen and heard break my heart and bring all three of us to tears. Hopefully if more kids grow up learning about how to treat animals and reading books like this that show animals as sweet, adorable, and VERY REAL the next group of older kids and adults will not be so cruel towards our best friends, the four legged ones.

Little Kids love this story
The poky Little Puppy was my favorite as a child. I found that my nephews and neice loved it. It teaches why it is important to obey your parents.

My Favorite Childhood Story
When I was a child I absolutely LOVED this book. My grandma tells met hat she used to read it to me atleast 5 times a day...and she soon memorized the whole book and would have been able to recite it too me if only i didnt have to see the pictures. I remember loving this book as a child and I saved my copy to read to my children when I have them. I definately recommend this book for your child.

Great book for beginners and seasoned cooks
I bought the original publication of this book at an auction in Phillipsburg, Ohio. It was the summer of 1980. The property and all the household goods of an Mennonite family were being liquidated. The book was a signed gift dated September 21, 1950. Upon opening the book, I discovered it was loaded with clover leaves. Those weren't the only treasures in the cook book. It was loaded with lots of easy recipes that could be used to create home style meals. I am buying another copy now so I can retire the book I have come to depend on. The only regret I have is that I didn't buy the old applesauce pot and the recipe file. The recipe for apple sauce read.. "fill the pan with apples", "cover with water", "cook until the sauce reaches the mark on the stick"... there was no stick to be found.. I wish the cook knew how much her recipes mean to me.

One of the greatest cookbooks
I love this cookbook from the Mennonite Community. The meals are hearty and delicous. I much rather take the time to make these meals then to eat processed and store bought foods.

Definitely buy this cookbook
I've grown up eating recipies from this cookbook--my mother cooks from it more than any other cookbook she owns. My grandmother used this cookbook, all my aunts use it, and many of my cousins use it. Some of my very favorite meals are from recipies in this book.

This is real, down home Pennsylvania Dutch cooking. It may not be fancy gourmet, but it's just good food. If you only buy one cookbook, The Mennonite Community Cookbook is the one to get.

Delightful!
Sotah, the story of a young woman living in an insular utra-religious community, is an excllent book. It insightful, captivating, well written and very hard to put down. Living close to several insular communities similar to her's I found it very interesting and looking forward to reading her other novels.

The Best Naomi Ragen book!
Although this was mostly Dinah's story, it's easy to learn about the lives and choices (at least where a husband is concerned) of orthodox girls from all three sisters - Devorah, who has to marry a very unatractive (physically) man, and then learns how good he really his, Dinah, how follows the rules all the way, even when she has done no wrong, and knows it but follows anyhow, and Leah, who decides to take her fate into her own hands and succeeds. I think that the best lesson dinah, her family and us learn from this book is not following blindly, but checking things by ourselves before "jusmping in", because sometimes the majority can err, too!

Unbelievable book! Stayed up 'til 4 am to finish it.
I just finished Sotah and was just mesmerized. I am not a reader yet I couldn't put the book down. As a Jewish woman who has become somewhat connected to the Orthodox community in America the story provided remarkable insights into the Haredi community in Israel. The book touched me so deeply - stirring thoughts of what it means to be a "good Jew" and how Torah values can become so distorted by a small number of people. My emotions were at full peak - especially the last third of the book - I cried so profusely the last 100 pages I had to get up to wash my face so I could see the words on the page. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I think this book was one of the best books I have read!!
This book was terrific. When I read the book MATERIAL WORLD, A GLOBAL FAMILY PORTRAIT, I thought there was no book like it that could be better. Now when I read it, all I wish is to have is WOMEN IN THE MATERIAL WORLD . I cannot believe how good it is. I recomend this book for all ages (I am 11).

Absolutely Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!
When I first ordered this book and received it in the mail, after opening the box it came in, sat down right then and there "just to take a peek". Well, let's just say, my short "peek" turned into an interrupted 30 minutes! "Women in the Material World" certainly joins the ranks of "can't-put-down-and-can't-forget-about" books. It is a very worthy sequel to "Material World", in which women from some of the "Material World" families are looked at more closely. Perhaps the most special thing about this book is a long, personal, and intimate interview with each women. The women are surprisingly open in responding about their daily life, their children, their marriage, and their future hopes. "Women in the Material World" simply lets the women speak for themselves, and in the process, breaks down many stereotypes (who would have thought a 58-year Chinese woman would love farming much more than her traditional household duties?)and lets others remain (the secluded life of an Indian woman). Statistics for that country, quick facts about each woman, a brief write-up on conditions for women in each of their countries, and field notes from the photographer further enrich this amazing book. The women in this book will inspire you, challenge you, and never let you forget this book.

An amazing book that should remind us just how lucky we are!
I first read Material World: a Global family portrait. This one is similar, and has some of the same people in it, but this one focuses on the women in the family, and how she takes care of her family, what she thinks about, how she gets along in life in general.

There are some statistics about the country, things about how much money they make, the literacy rate, etc.. none of it boring. the book makes you feel like you are traveling around the world and meeting all of these people. The pictures are also beautiful.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in other cultures and the way that women live around the world.. i would love to find more books like this. It makes me thankful for how much I have and the opportunities in this country that are open to women!

Excellent Clinical Drug Information Resource
As a clinical pharmacy practitioner with a doctor of pharmacy degree, this is the one reference I reach for time and time again. The monographs are clear, concise and easy to use. The appendicies and comparative drug charts are excellent. There are also summarized guidelines, protocols, drug interactions, etc. for quick reference. I highly recommend this handbook.

Must-have Reference
This book is wonderful for a quick reference, or detailed information. The drug information is concise, yet is just what you need when time is a necessity, or even when you've got all day. The appendices and tables in the back contain a wealth of handy guides and algorithms. If you only have one book at your disposal, this should be it.

The Bible of Pharmacy
This is the absolute bible of pharmacy. This is a good reference for generic/brand names, drug class, drug interactions, etc. There are also some very useful drug charts and treatment guidelines in the back of the book. However, it is a little weak on OTC drugs. Overall, this is an excellent portable medical reference.

LOVE CAN MAKE YOU PUT ON A WHOLE LOTTA WEIGHT
A great photo-filled cookbook...few original recipes, but some tasty bits of Naomi's Southern Wisdom. I'm guessing that if there weren't so many photos of Wynonna Judd in the book, the publishers might have taken a "pass" on it. Maybe this is the precursor to "LOVE CAN BUILD A BRIDGE PART II; AND THE TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE".

Comfort Food
This is a wonderful cookbook. The recipes call for basic ingredients and are easy to make and taste delicious. I grew up eating food like this, reminded me of my childhood, hence "comfort food". The photos and Naomi's inspirations make you want to invite your family and friends over for dinner! This book would be a great Christmas present.

Down home great food!!!!
I love this book! Down home country food. The recipes are easy to make, but full of flavor. These are recipes that your grandma would make, and hopefully will inspire you to bring your family back to the kitchen table.
