The Rejection of Continental Drift: Theory and Method in American Earth Science
Published in Paperback by Oxford University Press (March, 1999)
Author: Naomi Oreskes

Very, worthwhile reading!
I can highly recomend this book to anyone interested in the history and philosophy of the earth sciences. I have been looking for books on this subject for some time and this was certainly the "find" I was hoping for.

I am not, however, able to comment on the specifics of Oreskes' thesis, since the subject lies outside my field of expertise, but her more general comments about the status of science are certainly worth considering, and the evidence she marshalls is very impressive.

As a final point, I am putting my money where my mouth is and sending copies to various geologists and geophysicists that I know (perfect birthday gift for the earth scientist who already has her 4*4 and all the latest field gear)

a beautiful book for older children
This is a quite beautiful book made with high quality materials and containing many lovely color illustrations. The six stories included in this compilation are: The Memoirs of a London Doll by Mrs. Fairstar (1846), The Steadfast Tin Soldier by Hans Christian Anderson (1838), Ruth Ainsworth's Rag Bag, a Baba Yaga tale, Laurence Housman's Rocking Horse Land (1894), and The Town in the Library by E. Nesbit.

Each story is preceded by a paragraph of introduction about the author and the story, and the pictures by Angela Barrett are superb. These tales are a bit lengthy and too intense for young children, but just the thing for the more mature young reader. This would make a lovely and special gift.

The Roots of Spiritual Care and Spiritual Health
THE ROOTS OF HEALING is a book that explores how the nature of our soul infuses health and well-being. It is a series of questions and answers provided by leading edge thinkers who understand the power of spirit to heal. This book reminds us of our true nature. More importantly, we are reminded of the roots of healing itself - our soul. When our soul experiences well-being, the possibility for physical, psychological, social, and spiritual unity becomes an expression and extension of the unmanifest becoming manifest. Thanks to all who contributed to the future of medicine. Samuel Oliver, author of, WHAT THE DYING TEACH US: LESSONS ON LIVING.

Ruby Glass of the 20th Century (book #1)
I am an avid collector or ruby glass (red glass) pieces. My collection has grown over the past 25 years and I haven't been able to find a book or books to help me identify any pieces in my collection. I would highly recommend anyone purchasing this book and its companion book #2. I am also interested in locating anyone else that is a collector.

Loved it!
The characters were real and their challenges were met with courage and perseversence. As I read the book, I felt I lived through the events of their lives with them. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and especially since I knew the story was based on the lives of real folks.

Meeting women
This is one of the best book about Ruth and Noemi. The book can be read by everyone: the writer was able to put together the results of the recent studies abouts Ruth in an original and personal way. It's very interesting and original the presentation of the different actors of the story from the point of wiew of each another.

Fun for Kids and Fun for family
My kids (Age:7&10) and I all enjoyed this book very muchsince we received in the mail from Amazon. Every night, we take turnreading to each other -- usually I go first and then the kids. Thekids enjoy all the funny ones and the wonderful drawings that Ashley had created. This is a really great book. My daughter even recognized a few of these poems as her teacher had shared with her class early this year.
