What She Wants: Women Artists Look at Men

"What She Wants": Bold and Beautiful Visions for Men, Too!
Highly recommended book for women (and men) who are photography enthusiasts, gender observers, and collectors of erotic photography. As a white male, age 42, I enjoyed this book immensely! The photography, from several highly creative women photographers, is displayed at the top of its form: provocative and beautiful; disturbing and erotic. Photographers like the talented Jacqueline Kennedy of London--whose fabulous print "Other Chambers" is in this collection--offer an erotic vision of women looking at man as sexual creature, sexual object. You'll learn that a penis can be a humorous object for women, mystical , magical and sometimes ugly. Each photograph, like Kennedy's bold and erotic image of a sexually mature, elegant woman fisting a passive man, will stimulate much conversation between men and women. This is a small coffee table book that is bound to be picked up and discussed by friends. It is too important a work to be out of print! Perhaps the publisher will reconsider and reissue this book in a larger format edition? Let's hope so!

Warm, touching, real and sexy as heck... I loved it!!!
Kathy, Jett and Jody stole my heart. This story was so warm and the characters so real that I felt I was right there in the book experiencing everything as if it was happening to me or a family member. I read this book several years ago and have re-read it several times since. It never got old. I dislike fluffy romantic books. This one was anything but. It was well written and full of sexual energy. I believed the enduring love between Jett and Kathy. And I really liked reading about the relationship between Jett and Jody, and Jett and his father. A must read on a cold, rainy afternoon (or anytime). At the end of the book the author, Naomi Horton, promised to bring us the other stories in the Wild Hearts miniseries, but alas, nothing yet. And this was back in 1997!! Naomi, please!!! I want to read Rafe and Nick's stories. Have you written it yet? If yes, where can I get a copy? If not, when?!?

Women and the Study of Torah
Published in Hardcover by KTAV Publishing House (01 March, 2001)
Authors: Joel B. Wolowelsky and Naomi G. Cohen
Amazon base price: $24.95
Average review score:

A fascinating and persuasive book
Ably edited by Joel Wolowelsky, Women And The Study Of Torah is a collection of thoughtful and informative essays about advanced Torah study, all of which originally appeared over the course of two decades in the periodical "Tradition: The Journal of Orthodox Thought", published by the Rabbinical Council of America. There is an age-old debate in Jewish Law on whether it is proper for women to study the Oral Law. The first collection of essays in Women And The Study Of Torah concern encouragement for women to engage in some study of the Oral Law, including Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik's case for why women should be allowed to study Talmud. The second part of Women And The Study Of Torah is a collection of more individual and personal essays by people who work in the field of Jewish education, including heads of schools that offer advanced Torah study for women. A fascinating and persuasive book, very highly recommended for students of Judaic philosophy, culture, and religion.

An Underwater Adventure
This book is fun and educational at the same time. It shows the lives of different women ocean explorers. I loved this book especially, because I want to be just like those women. The ocean is probably my favorite thing in the whole world. I advise all to read this amazing book!

Women On Women 3
Before i read this book .. i felt lost and curious at the same time . I knew that I had feelings for women , just as i had taught myself to "act" like i felt for men . I came across " Women on Women 3" on a road trip to Maine with some friends of mine . I was only 17 . So , i stayed up one night, the same day i bought the book , and read all night . Each story spoke to me , and i had come to this grand realisation that i was in fact a lesbian. It was as though a little light in my head was turned on ! I carried the book to my chest with me everywhere . I couldn't have been more happy . When i came home though , it was a different story . I had left my book lying on the stair case. My mother; with her air of revernt grace that seems to follow her about , took one look at the book , and thew it away . I never saw my book again , and living in the small town that i do , it is close to impossible to find any lesbian literature . So i wrote this.. I feel that now i can not mourn the loss of it .. but now i can be blessed with the knowlege that someone who is searching for their 'indenity' can read this , and know that there is one great book out there too look to ..

Offers passionate insights into the lesbian experience ...
28 stunning stories by some of America's best-known Lesbian writers and new voices in lesbian fiction. Not all of these stories are about sex, but all explore relationships and are seen from a point of view not heard from often enough. "... to live, to observe, to write as a lesbian is to live, observe, and write from a position of difference." Stories range from slow and sensual to hot and hard, and appeal to a wide variety of readers, including heterosexuals and couples. Featured writers include: Willa Cather, Sapphire, and Jewelle L. Gomez. In their introduction, the editors say: "Irreverence and exuberance are perhaps at last becoming integrated into the lesbian experience in a manner that will help give still more varied forms to lesbian lives and literature." The Women's Haggadah
Published in Paperback by Harper SanFrancisco (February, 1994)
Authors: Naomi Nimrod and E. M. Broner
Amazon base price: $10.00
Used price: $4.31
Average review score:

Terrific Jewish-feminist resource
This book is a must-read for Jewish feminists (or feminist Jews) of all stripes. Broner provides the text of the haggadah from the feminist seder that she created, with friends, several years ago; it can serve as a great set of guidelines for those interested in creating their own feminist seder, or simply in understanding a different perspective on the Passover tradition.

I'm particularly impressed with some of the readings and prayers in Broner's liturgy, which are appropriate to add to a "traditional" seder, if you want to add some women's voices to the men's voices that are traditionally heard.

I spent five years working on, and eventually coordinating, the Feminist Seder at Williams College; Broner's book was an inspiration to me. Good stuff.

Wynonna & Naomi Judd (Star Families)

Author: Skip Press
Amazon base price: $8.00

Beautiful
This is a beautiful biography of both Wyonna Judd and her mother, Naomi Judd. There are more than 15 color and black and white photographs throughout the book (mostly color). It is a nice size for reading and includes a glossary of musical and medical terms. There is also an index. It is from 1995 so it is fairly current. What an inspiring story on how to handle difficulties and to persevere in following your dreams. Feel free to email me with any comments or questions.

Bre's
This is one story that everyone should read. Beautifully and sensitively told, it is the story of a young girl named Heidi who is taken away from her grandfather on the alm and sent to be a companion to a young invalid girl. It teaches lessons about faith and patience in a manner that many Christian writers should take note of. It is not just simply a children's book, it is a book for grown-ups as well. A delight to read.

She live in the alpes then goes to Frankfurt with aunt Dete.
I have not finish the book yet, but it is a good book so far. The book is about a young girl named Heidi who was batized when she was very young, and her mother's sister, Dete took her to the swiss alpes were Heidi's grandfather lives. Her grandfather doesn't like to go down the mountain were he lives to vist people nor he likes to talk to anyone. When Heidi comes she meets a boy named Peter, who take care of all the goats inculeding the grandfather's two goats. Then after awalie her aunt Dete comes to talk her to Frankfurt were Dete lives and one of her workers family member a tweleve year old girl is in a weelchair and wants someone about her age to be her friend and playmate.

Read it as a child and as an adult!
A while back when I was in my 30's (never mind how long ago that was!) I was sick with the flu, and I found a copy of HEIDI, so I crawled into a nice warm bed and re-read the book -- as an adult.

What insight into human nature! And as an adult I appreciated the dry, understated humor. I also appreciated the spiritual insights -- that God will give us what we desire, but sometims uses circumstances we don't like to teach us truths that we couldn't learn otherwise.

When I was a girl I was often turned off by what was called "good reading," but for some reason, I enjoyed Heidi and it never seemed sappy or corny.

Very much worth reading!
