In fact, it is amazing how well a few pictures, diagrams, and cartoons can clarify concepts better than chapters of dense text from more "scholarly" sources. Of course, if the pictures don't do it for you, there is the excellent commentary by Fred Allen Wolf, as well as, an extensive bibliography for further reading.

In fact, the purpose of existance seems to be to reunite ourselves with ourselves so that all of creation may become fully aware of itself in harmony.

As I expand my knowledge of the relationships of this universe, I still come back to this work. If you happen to get your hands on a copy, guard it jealously! I'm in search of a copy for my adopted niece, and don't intend to lose mine!

I have read Space-Time and Beyond many times. At first I re-read it to see if there was something I missed in the first reading. Two things you will notice when reading this book.

First: It was a collaboration between a physicist and a layman.
Second: The appendix is the meat of the book.

First, the reader will read a comic book like explanation of mysticism and psychic phenomena. These are the speculative portion of the book. The appendix then verifies these odd occurences through reference to Natural phenomena,at the sub-atomic level. The speculative part is fascinating and very imaginative, but for me now, in Wolf and Toben's vision I see a model of the universe mapped in the macrocosm as extrasensory reality and realized in the microcosm as quantum physics. A visual mnemonic device which the young physicist can utilize to determine the direction of his research based on his own intuition and not that of his mentor.

This is for sure one of the most amazing books I ever read. It's a pity it is out-of-print. I have the brazilian translation and was looking of the american edition. Highly recommended.

Of all the books I took out from the library as a kid, this was the one I took out the most. It is a thrilling story for kids as well as adults. It made me a fan of Walter Lippincott & I went on to read as many of his other books as I could find. I managed to buy the sequel, "Wilderness Champion" as a kid but I had to wait 30 years, until I was an adult to find a copy of the Wolf King (cost me $..., but well worth it). It's EXTREMELY difficult to get a copy, but if you do, you'll fall under the King's spell.

he was the leader of the pack and the men who would hunt him could not outwit him...then they poisoned his mate and in his grief he would lead the pack no more....alone he was even more desired by man and even more elusive. brooding and wise the wolf king dominates every chapter while an objective Johnny relates the tale.

I'm a history student who has researched the Nez Perce history for several classes. I first read this book long before college and it sparked a life long interest in the Nez Perce history and the Nez Perce War of 1877. I live in Montana so my "backyard" is where most of this history took place. Yellow Wolf is, in my mind, the MOST credible book on the war I have read. Reading Yellow Wolf and then the book by Gen O.O. Howard it is simple to see the half truths and blatant lies the Government published in its efforts to remove the Nez Perces from their land. McWhorter took Yellow Wolf to several sites where Yellow Wolf pointed out things such as rifle pits in the distance that, until McWhorter was right next to them, were invisible to the eye. An excellent book that I have used time and again in giving lectures and writing papers. A must have for anyone researching the Nez Perce Tribal history.

As a child growing up on the Camas Prairie. I was told by my Great Grandma. How her mother as a child & her parents had gone to the Fort at Mount Idaho to seek refuge from the NezPerce in 1877. Years later I was working in a small bar in the town of Whitebird, Idaho (Where the first battle occured.) One day a friend brought me this book and told me that he thought that I might be interested in reading it. That was almost 12 years ago, and I think I've read "Yellow Wolf" at least once a year sense then. Me,my husband and my 2 daughters (19 & 11) have traveled almost all of the NezPerce Trail. This book brings you into the lives of the non-treaty NezPerce on their flight for freedom. They were not a hostile people, but were forced from their homes & their way of life. You feel their pain and suffering from the begining to the end of this book. I feel it is a must read for all poeple. Another good book by L.V. McWhorter "Hear Me My Chiefs!" NezPerce legand & history

Go back in time and live, travel and fight with the Nez Perce as they seek to return to their own lands. Feel their utter despair as gradually they are chased down by the US Army murdered, and finally with so few left, forced to live the lives of captives on a reservation. This book brings home the enormity of the crime committed by the US Government of the day, not only against the Nez Perce but all of the Native Americans, it should be compulsive reading for all US schoolchildren. It is without doubt one of the most absorbing books I have read on the subject of Native Americans. Dont take my word for it, read it yourself, you will not regret it.

This book should be required reading for every student of predator biology. If you really want to know the truth about wolves and their behavior, read this.

Great Book! The early history of Alaska from the dog sleds to the early vehicles trying to cross the land with no roads. Hunting from his dog sled pulled by his half-wolves, he fell in frozen rivers many miles from any help and knew how to survive. The big bears and the weather sharpened his skills. A hunter and outdoorsman's book.

Alaska's Wolf Man ranks as one of the best books I have ever read.. period. Myself, and many of my fellow Alaskans have read this book and enjoyed it greatly. It is full of history and adventurous tales about Alaska. Anyone with a love for the outdoors, wildlife, hunting or trapping would love this book! Rearden has a wonderful way of telling a story which draws you in. I couldn't put this book down until I had read it all.

If you like to play vampire and like to play often you will eventually run into the problem of the GM and other veteran players getting into fights, moving, getting bored with the game, or getting married. This leads to the break up of groups and then it is necessary to find another group.... or make your own. Some times its hard enough to find other experienced players, much less match up everyones schedule. I think the next best thing to do is teach new people. This is more true to the game anyways. When first embraced the vampires know nothing about kindred society and the powers that vampires wield. This sets you up for a very realistic game.

You know all the times you were playing in someone elses game and thought "I could have done that so much better" here is your chance. BTW Its harder than you ever imagined, but also rewarding when you do a good job. If you just want hack-and-slash vampire campaigns, though, the players handbook has all the info you need. This book is almost too much information but if you want a very complex and detailed story it is highly recommended.

I have been reading gaming books since I was nine and gaming and gamemastering since I was in Junior High School (I am now a senior in sollege). In that time, I have read dozens of gamemaster guides for different sci-fi and fantasy worlds. The Vampire guide is the best of all of them, and it is one that everyone running a campaign, Vampire or otherwise, should read.
Most gamemaster guides are the same thing as all of the others: they have the same campaign generation and adventure writing advice, the same NPC advice, just with the flavor text appropriate to the game in question added in. The Vampire guide is different. In addition to providing all of the behind-the-shield knowledge relevant to Vampire and its storylines, it also has sections on topics like 'How to deal with Problem Players.' It touches on the interpersonal aspects of gaming in a very blunt manner that all other gaming guides seem too squeamish to handle. Included herein are sereotypical 'problem players' that most of us have seen (or been) at some point and advice on how to deal with each of them.
Three clans new to this edition (the Baali, Nagaraja and True Brujah), new advantages (age, military force, arcane) and new disciplines related to the new clans (all with powers detailed up to ten dots) are provided, as well as Vampire history and the like. In the history section, there are tips for gaming in any era from prehistoric to the present. In true White Wolf spirit, there is a good bit of humor in the book. The 'Problem Player' section in particular provided great entertainment.

Until many other role playing games, "The Worlds of Darkness" are story based. Thus the storyteller is the single most important person in the group and players will often join or leave a group based on the personality of the storyteller and their ability to create an intriquing journey. But it is also very challenging to be a storyteller, especially if you are used to the less story-focused role-playing games where the DM or guide focuses on technical matters over characters or plot. This is a great book because it makes a lot of good suggestions, gives some needed guidelines, and also spends a good deal of time being honest about the storyteller's role, power, authority and the dynamics of players in this system. Does it answer every question? No, but it will help you become a better storyteller and everyone in your group will benefit.

I have been reading books on Wyatt Earp for some time now, fiction and non-fiction. Richard Parry's Winter Wolf was a very good "What if" type of book. I was kept involved with the characters from the start of the book till the end. The real figures from Wyatt Earp's past helped to bring a feeling of reality to the story. Made me kind of sorry to know it was fiction.

It certianlly got me to wondering what might have happened if Wyatt had a son. I look foward to his next book and I am sure the readers of Winter Wolf will also. This is a book well worth the time.

This is the story of Wyatt Earp and his son, maybe, that he knows nothing about. Nathan Blaylock is the supposed son who is looking for Wyatt to kill him. Blaylock has been left a letter by his mother, before she died, stating that $20,000.00 dollars is his if he provides proof he killed Wyatt Earp. This book is how Nathan, Jim Riley and friends try to find Wyatt. The chase leads them through San Francisco, up to Alaska. There are many adventures and gun fights along the way. Do they find Wyatt in the end, do they kill him???? Have to read to find out. A well written book that gets you involved with the characters. You are sad when something happens to some of them. Keeps you attention. Think you will like this book. Really just fiction but after all most are just fiction.

I typically read at least one book per week. This book is the best I've read in over two years. I normally don't pick up western themed novels, but after watching several Earp movies recently I gave it a shot. I was not disappointed. I have recommended it to all my reading partners - and all have come back with similar experiences.

The Wolf, by Amanda Grihm, opens up a new literary door to an
exceptional storyline that holds your attention from the beginning to
the end. The portrayal of reality and dreams becomes the concept of
this wonderful, unique, and descriptive novel of a woman learning and
coming to terms with her Native American ancestry which leads to
taking charge of her life.

Sarissa's coming of age becomes a mixture of helplessness, dreams she
cannot interpret, betrayals, and impending plots to take her life and
dignity. At present, she sees no light at the end of the tunnel. Her
marriage is in name only with a conning husband who tries to take
advantage of her weaknesses at every avenue. At work, one of the
professors she works for spends more time plotting his hatred towards
her instead of his work and classes.

Sarissa's modeling troupe called Panache Models becomes the tool
through an audition of models where one model in particular becomes
the interpreter to Sarissa's dreams and reality dilemma. She helps
Sarissa understand her ancestry, and the reasons for her dreams.

Throughout the story, Sarissa experiences a spiritual and animalistic
transformation as a wolf to face head on the past and present demons
that she has carried on her shoulders for years. It becomes her
lifesaver in many ways. From this transformation she is able to come
to terms with self through her ancestry, which finally gives her
courage and strength to face her reality. The text is one of the
ultimate in interpretations where you will be totally taken aback.

Ms. Grihm's writing style highlights a woman's need to be herself, to
live, and be free. She writes with such depth and intensity it entices
you to read the book again just to pull the strength from her
storyline.

The Wolf steps far away from any book with resemblance to a
relationship or romance book. I was totally in awe of the great
storyline. The Wolf is also a book that you don't quite see ending
which becomes a hint from the author and a plus for the reader. It
is definitely a must read.

I was intrigued with the writing of Amanda Grihm. The Wolf is one of the best storylines I have ever read, and I do mean EVER! I am from Cleveland and I loved the fact that I recognized the places that were mentioned in the book. My heart broke with sadness and filled with joy as I traveled through time with Sarissa. I have never felt so much emotional attachment to a character as I did with Sarissa. I hated Jerry and I wanted something horrible to happen to him. I wanted to see Blascey wiped out of the picture all together and I wanted to fire Thomas myself. I felt so much sympathy for Lillian and Andrew that it broke my heart that these two mental patients were being used by Lillian's evil, twisted, two-timing cousin, Blascey. I applauded Sophie and the other models for being not just friends but extended-family to Sarissa. And I loved every move that Anaghia made. She was strong, confident, in control and she was provided the path for Sarissa to come to terms with her past and live in her present.

Amanda made me feel like I knew each one of these characters. Each character was so well defined and developed that they lived in my mind and heart. The plot was explosive and explicit, and the pace was phonomenal. I felt like I knew Sarissa, like we were friends.

Days after reading the book, I was left thinking about the wonderful triumph that finally occurred for Sarissa and I was left wondering how she was doing in Atlanta? I thought about her as though she was more than just a character in a book. I felt like she was a person that I knew and wanted to do well in life.

Amanda really knows how to bring the print off the page and breath life into her characters. I loved this story! I would love to read the sequel. This is one of the most detailed, well-written works of art I've EVER read.

I was entralled with THE WOLF by Amanda Grihm. I was held in a tight grip of suspense and drama throughout the entire story. Sarissa is me and I am she. I mouthed her words and lived her experience. The similarities between what I went through as a person and she went through as a charater were the same. I have lived the dread that Sarissa went through and I had become just like her over the years. I held on to hatred and it weakened me. I hope that like Sarissa, the release of that hatred will allow me to move on with my life. I feel that there is actually a chance for me because of the very clear and concise actions Sarissa took.

I would recommend that anyone who has ever been hurt, long ago, or even recently, read THE WOLF and free yourself through the act of taking action, becoming strong, embracing your animal instincts and moving on with your life. It is a great story for those who just want to be entertained - well written and creative with the use of language.

I found the book to be very informative and, at times, inspiring. With the broad variety of styles discussed, there should be something for everyone. The works of Mr. Hook and Ms. Buel are particularly inspiring. I recommend it to any aspiring artist.

This book is excellent for taking your painting to the next level. Although the styles represented in the book are not my own, i took away several techniques after reading this book. The best thing about this book is it shows you HOW, so many books show the effect without the steps. Not this one, it's all laid out in an easy to understand and non-intimidating fashion.

The painting techniques of seven master artists, whose styles are quite diverse, are highlighted in as many chapters of this book. Textural techniques, flat opaque colors, ultra-realism, impasto, luminosity through thin glazes and experimental abstracts are all carefully described and illustrated on the pages. Not only do the artists take the reader through step-by-step demonstrations on one representative work, but they also showcase a gallery selection of other work that has been created through the same technique. My favorites were the incredibly dramatic, ultra realistic studies of still-life flowers by Barbara Buer. The technique of Michael Nevin, in his urban paintings shows an intense atmosphere of light and dark, reminiscent of Hopper. Although these are basic techniques, there is much to learn from the examples and the demonstrations are clearly described. Now, after reading the book, I am anxious to try this out for myself.
