All Planescape Campaigns Should own this book
This book expands upon the factions so much from the box set. Besides DM stuff like stats for the factols and other important factioneers, it gives tips for roleplaying and excellent detail on the philosphies. Because the factions are central to the entire Planescape feel, it is extremely important to know them well. Even if your campaign has already been through Faction War (as mine has) I would definitely suggest buying this. It is perfect for bringing up past events and seeing what the future holds for these philosophers with clubs.

This is the essential guide for DMs and Players both
I just started reading this book yesterday and it is the best planescape accessory out there. Ever wondered just who the Factols are and what they act like? Is one of your characters having trouble playing a dustman? Want to visit the shattered temple but don't know whats there? Ever wondered where the Sighners came from anyway? Just how should those bleaker NPCs act? How do I join the anarchists? Or maybe you just want expanded faction abilities or want to know the personal plans of one of the factions. All these things and more are included in the Factols Manifesto. Along with a huge collection of great art that you won't find anywhere else including maps of each faction headquarters and a portrait of each factol! Bottom line this is a must buy. If you're a DM and don't have this book yet shame on you!

The factols... uncovered
This is one of the golden books of Planescape. The descriptions of the factions, the factols and their activities are great. Much cheaper than the other Planescape books (being 160 pages). It's filled with full-color art by DiTerlizzi and has everything you need for the low-down on the Factions. I don't think I'll keep talking about this book, just get it. You won't be dissappointed.

The Best!!
Owning over 100 cookbooks, this is the one that I turn to most often. One can turn out a marvelous French dinner and not spend a huge amount of time preparing it. I have yet to try a recipe that isn't excellent and I have prepared many of them. Highly recommend this book. Not being able to buy a new one now, have ordered used to give as gifts. They have all arrived in excellent condition.

This book makes cooking fun again!
My daughter bought this cookbook in Paris and brought it home for Christmas. After looking through it, I decided I had to have it myself as there were too many recipes I wanted to try and I couldn't write them all down. Now, whenever I show the book to any of my friends, they have to order it too!

The recipes are clear and easy to follow. The pictures are lovely. The dishes I have tried so far are pure delights to the tongue! It is fun to just sit and look through it and plan a dinner party! I take a yearly trip to Paris to visit my daughter and this book helps me cope with my ordinary life the rest of the year!

Bravo from a Chinese woman
I've always wanted to make delicious food, which includes Chinese food, of course. I got this book from a book sale, and I had tried Fish Terrine, White Veal Stew, and Baked Caramel Custard. Not knowing what it would taste like before making it (because I've never had any French dish before), the outcome were amazaing. The ingredients are accurate, and the explaination are simple and clear. This is a very fine cookbook. Worth every penny.

Mad Max plus Frankenstein plus an Indie publisher!!!
This is one of those books that makes you look up and say "damn, it's two o'clock in the morning and I just can't stop reading this book,oh well I'll just finish this chapter." E. E. Knight weaves an incredibly detailed tapestry of science fiction, horror, and extremely lifelike action! If you like sci-fi, or just plain action, then this is the book that will make you get fired because you are late for work the third time this week. Yes, it is that good. The author is able to transport the reader to a bizarre, almost Lovecraftian, future that is chock full of alien vampires, their human lackeys, and the resistance, an alien "tuned up" group of humans who has been enhanced by the alien invaders arch nemesis, their brother aliens, who object to their life-sucking lifestyle. The mission of the resistance is to regain control of earth, one piece at a time, while holding on to the small patches of "free" land that the alien vampires don't control. One word of warning, once you start reading this book, you will be hooked until the bitter end. This book stays focused on a central character who lost his family to the "quisling" human lackeys of the aliens, and follows in his fathers footsteps to become a "Wolf", and take the battle to the enemy. Great character developement, and a solid plot that gallops along at a fast pace throughout the entire book. I finished this book in two days, and I would trade my brass ring for the next book in the series. I can say without reservation that this is the best book I have read in the last 5 years and one of my all time favourites. Bravo E. E. Knight. More, More, More!!

Book of the Year !
It's a book to have. For me the book of the year. I can't wait for more from this VERY promising author.

Good to the last word!
A great first novel by a talented author. If you liked science fiction, horror and action/adventure, this book has them all in a cleverly written fantasy. An action packed, captivating first chapter introduces us to the novel's hero, David Valentine, fighting for the survival of mankind on an earth taken over by aliens. The pace moderates over the next chapters as the author skilfully describes a world controlled by its new Kurian masters and their hencemen who suck up victims' auras along with their blood to maintain immortality. A series of somewhat somewhat disconnected adventures trace David's induction, training and advancement in the Wolf cast that spearheads the fight against the alien invaders. Just as you are wondering if the book will consist of nothing but a collection of stories, the action picks up as David meets, is seduced by and then must rescue his lovely Melissa Carlson from a horrible death at the hands of Sadists. I found the last few chapters spellbinding and could not put the book down until I had read the last word.

Hello '80s!
I'm not trying to date the book as it's lessons about work defy the passing of time, but I remember encountering "Life is Hell" in the L.A. Weekly back in the mid-eighties and I was dumbfounded at how these simple little cartoons could pack so much weariness and cynicism.
If you have trouble identifying with the themes and characters in Groening's work it might be time to step outside the mansion, put the Trust Fund aside and join the real world. Let this be your guide!

Very Funny
A dead on interpretation of the working world from the genius behind the Simpsons. Much of the humor is in the same vain as the Simpsons, so if you are a fan of the show, you will find "Life in Hell" books just as enjoyable. If you hate your job, or have ever hated a job, this book will speak directly to you. The book, which is a collection of the comic strip written mainly in the 1980's, deals with such things as the different types of bosses and employees and how an employee should act in certain situations. Each subject is brilliantly approached in a humorous and sarcastic manner by Groening, and each page will have you laughing out loud multiple times. An extremely enjoyable reading experience I highly recommend.

"A TENSE OFFICE IS A PRODUCTIVE OFFICE"
I share Matt Groening's attitudes about the workplace almost across the board. Why, then, can't I express these attitudes as well as he does? Could he possibly be more talented than I? Could he be more creative? Nah! Must be dumb luck. He quit his day job and became a successful cartoonist. If I had quit my day job with a similar intent, I probably could have been his poster boy for "How to tell everyone off, go into business for yourself, be completely fulfilled, and starve to death."

I did recognize several of my past bosses and their management approaches in WORK IS HELL, particularly on the cover of the magazine, "Lonely Tyrant." Some of its featured articles were:

"Humiliating Some Poor Sap In Front Of Everyone Else"

"The Three Part Plan For Squelching New Ideas"

. . . . 1. Say "Put it in writing."

. . . . 2. Study idea carefully

. . . . 3. Ignore it completely

. . . . Repeat until employee gets the point.

"A Tense Office Is A Productive Office"

And, of course, "How To Make The Veins In Your Forehead Throb Alarmingly."

All of his humor is not restricted to bosses, however. There is a section devoted to the 81 types of employees with the 81st slot reserved for the readers own photo. I'm sure that most of us will recognize some of our co-workers here, and, if we are even a little honest, a description or two of ourselves.

WORK IS HELL is also an instruction manual with segments devoted to creative ways to kill time, how to play the game of work, and how (not) to get a raise.

I do have to mention one more instructive chapter: "How To Get Along With All The Jerks At Your Crummy Job."

If you are not a member of the idle rich nor were you born into royalty, there's probably some little tidbit hidden away in this book for you.

story telling at its best...
I recently picked up the book at a friends and i was pleased to discover a great story with stunning artwork, even as an adult i was able to fall in love with the story, the illustrations by Jeremy Downie were especially moving and really made the story come alive ...an excellent buy in the world of children stories.

A magical journey...
Antoinette and the Wolf is a great story for children of all ages. The illustrations by Jeremy Downie spoke to me as they remarkably complemented the wisdom of the story. Everything about them seems to be magical and breathtaking. There is a certain undertone to his paintings, which is so enchanting and that's what makes this book so special and different. When I was little I always enjoyed more the books where the illustrations were almost more colorful than the story itself. I think that Jeremy Downie succeded in doing so and I cannot wait to have my children read this book and appreciate the illustrations as much as I do, and I am sure they will.

A teacher's perspective.
This great children's book can be used for storymapping or to compare the storylines of Red Riding Hood with Antoinette and the Wolf. The absolute best part however, is the discussions about the "bully power" of the wolf, and what happened to make the wolf change. To address violence is very important and this book opens the avenue for the discussions about bully behaviour.

Elric Tales of the White Wolf
Published in Hardcover by White Wolf+inc ()
Author: Michael Moorcock
Amazon base price: $
Average review score:

An Elric novel written by Authors who grew up reading Elric
I have read every Elric novel. I own 500 kilos of fantasy paperbacks. This book brought me as much joy, inspiration and satisfaction as any book I have ever read. Elric was the first "evil" hero. Every fantasy writer has taken a peice of elric to produce their characters. Drizt Do'urden is a shadow of Elric. Raistlen is almost an exact copy of Elric. Darth vader's sinister life, dependence on technology/sorcery and eventual noble self sacrifice are in mimicry of Elric. In this book so many authors who wanted to write Elric stories, some who had made great fame and fortune copying Moorcock, were given licence to write as they pleased. Every short story in the book is its authors best work because as they write about their own dark heros in their own novels they are thinking about Elric. My highest praise: I want a sequel.. or two... or ten... a series published monthly untill I am old and grey.

Skin tingling ,edge of your seat, can`t put it down, tragedy
Elric, last Prince of Melnibone. Elric makes you feel that your right there with him and drawing the from the dreaded runsword Stormbringer, all his pain, sorrow, grief you feel it all. This pale, weak being could be any of us, and yet it`s his weakness that gives him the strainth to weld such enormus power and to control the uncontrolable. Elric will make you cry, make you feel that you could defeat the Lords of Chaos your self and forever will you bare some of his burden. Your life will never be the same, the way you look at things such as the ocean will change and you`ll catch yourself try to summon the water element himself. For such a being to exist in your mind alone is enough.

Elric: A creation of a new genre
Elric of Melnibone' represents a departure from the era of Tarzan and Conan, giving people a dark prince for a protagonist. This book helps put together a group of stories written for the first time by other authors and show how dynamic Michael Moorcock's Elric really is.

An accurate and interesting book about a true hero
Hazel Wolf was a friend of mine and fellow board member on the Seattle Audubon Society for nearly 25 years. Susan Starbuck's book about Hazel is both highly entertaining and a very personal view of this unique woman. Susan has done a masterful job of weaving together a myriad of stories from and about Hazel into a coherent guide to Hazel's life as a dedicated organizer of social movements from her early life through her death at 101. Hazel never saw a wrong that she felt could not be righted. She dedicated her life to achieving justice, whether it was for working men and women, for jail inmates, for racial justice, for the environment or against war, often at the expense of her own personal and family life. Hazel led the way for women's independence and liberation through hard work and example without ever thinking about the meaning of those terms. At a recent celebration of Hazel's 105th birthday, Congressman Jim McDermitt and Governor Mike Lowry both said that in these times of Bush's war, we need Hazel's example of leadership more than ever.

Hazel Wolf- A persistent power for the right things in life
A powerful woman! If you think you have energy, read what this woman did right up to the end of her 101 years.

Activist Wanted to Have Fun
Hazel Wolf could have been your grandmother. A real tomboy, she grew up with her toes in the sand of Pacific Northwest beaches and her fingers around a basketball. The working class kids of Victoria B.C. were her "gang," and the comradeship and fun they cooked up animated her whole life.

Later, working as a secretary in Depression-era Seattle, Wolf organized fledgling unions wherever the bosses assigned her. They'd fire her for organizing, re-assign her to a new job, and she would begin organizing again. Like she always did, Hazel was just making friends and having fun.

In one of the "Hazel Stories" that fill the book, sheriff's deputies tried to evict a down-and-out family from their home by carrying the furniture out onto the sidewalk. Hazel and her friends, who sometimes cared to call themselves socialists or communists, simply carried the chairs and tables back into the house through the back door. The sheriff eventually gave up.

The U.S. government tried to deport Hazel Wolf during the McCarthy period because she was a) a communist, and b)Canadian. Just like the sheriff, the feds failed, too. Hazel had thousands of friends, and she wasn't afraid of political pressure. As she said, "I was just there, powerless and strong, someone who wouldn't chicken out. Somebody always stops the nonsense all through history."

Author Susan Starbuck says Hazel Wolf knew her life would make an important story; that it might evoke the next generation of social and environmental activists. At bookstore readings, Starbuck tells prospective readers, "Hey folks, here's an owner's manual about what to do when your government runs amok." The message of "Hazel Wolf: Fighting the Establishment" is theat we, too could have fun being activists...and also change the world.

This is a lovely book.
The best stories are the ones that not only make you feel things you may not want to, but those that make you think after reading them. I not only bawled for days on end after reading this, but I also thought about it a lot.

Every time I read it I receive something new out of it- another sign of a great story. While it is somewhat of an indie classic, you should definately seek it out and read it!

Breat book
The wolf had some good moments and some sad moments. This book is a tear bringer.

ENRICH YOUR LIFE AND READ THIS BOOK -- OR LOSE OUT
WHAT A GREAT TALE!

I PERSONALLY KNOW A MAN THAT HADN'T READ IN 4 YEARS AND NOW IS GOING TO NOT ONLY FINISH THE BOOK, BUT WILL START READING AGAIN... DON'T MISS OUT, MEET THE LAST WOLF OF IRELAND!

The Return of the Wolf to Yellowstone
I loved this book! The only complaint I have against the book I bought was the lack of pictures. I had checked this book out from the library and it was full of pictures of the wolf.

If you have any interest in the return of the wolf to Yellowstone, this book will definitely be an asset to your library.

I would rate this book a '5', if it was the illustrated issue.

A fresh perspective on wolves
Residents this reason have heard lots about wolves, but Thomas McNamee brings a fresh perspective to the story. He was a part-time rancher himself while writing this captivating book, but was also drawn to the wolves more deeply than he had first realized.

McNamee himself is a character in this book, giving it an inviting and personal air, but does not force his views on the reader. He shows the reader a federal wildlife agent tracking a wolf-killer outside of Red Lodge and even opens the window on curious rivalries and tensions between agencies involved in various chapters of the wolf story. Parts of the book are almost dramatic in their intensity, while others slow the pace as the wolves romp and play.

A smooth reading, funny yet informative book.
I have been studying the reintroduction of wolves to Yellowstone for some time, yet this book not only gave me tons of new information it also made the information palatable by bringing with it humor and wit. Mr McNamee has an insiders view, being both a rancher and a wolf lover. Few people could see through both seta of eyes as clearly as he does, yet he makes it seem so easy. If you are to pick one book about the wolves of Yellowstone to teach you as much as possible I recommend this book to you. I do feel like he rushes details at the end of the book, but since the saga is not over, the book was hard to finish I suppose. Other than that small detail this is a great book with lots of facts and easy, witty, reading. Enjoy

The Arrangement
Published in Digital by Warner Books ()
Author: Joan Wolf

Average review score:

Very enjoyable
Well thought out characters, snappy dialog, and a refreshingly different plot made this novel a very enjoyable read.

A definite keeper
I love Joan Wolf, and this is one of my favorites. I just love the opening lines of this book. Right away, I want to know about these people. She is an expert at drawing you in and making you care about the characters. I noticed some reviewers were disappointed in the lack of sex scenes, but that is one of the reasons I like her books so well. These are character driven romances and the first person POV gives you the opportunity to really get to know the heroine.

Book is so good that she won me over even when I resisted!
This was my first Joan Wolf book. After the first few words, I wondered if this would be my last. After I finished this book, I could not wait to get back on-line to buy more of her books!

I do not ever recall reading a romance book from a first person point of view (POV) and I'll admit I didn't like it at first. But I kept reading it because I thought it would be too shallow of me to stop reading just because I wasn't used to this POV. What if it was a great book anyway? Of course, my intuition was correct and the book is a definite keeper. And keeping an open mind did have it's rewards. And the rewards are so so sweet. (But grab a hankie just in case! HINT, HINT) When the plot starts to thicken, you'll also realize how clever Ms Wolf was for writing this book from the heroine's POV.

Once more light was shed on the horoine's past, I regretted my earlier luke warm feelings for this book. Oh what a fool I was! I wanted to reread the book right there and then! I was amazed. I was awed. I was won over completely and so will you. This book definitely goes on my keeper shelf and if you haven't read The Arrangement yet, you are missing out on a very good book. Don't fret too much over the mild sex. If you read my other reviews, you know that I do prefer steamy if not explicit sex scenes in my romance books but I'm flexible and variety they say is the spice of life. I had just gotten through reading Susan Johnson's latest novel anyway so I was ready for a break and The Arrangement was just what I needed.
