A Christmas Tradition
In our house, it has become a Christmas tradition to read Barrington Bunny (the first story in this book) aloud with different people reading the parts of different animals. I think it has made a difference in the lives of our children to think about a free gift, no strings atached, the meaning of friendship,or scary things (like wolves) who do no harm The Lone Ranger brings a new appreciation for the risk in taking religion seriously. The Easter Egg story brought major comfort to a friend after their child died. And the songs aren't bad either.

"A gift, a free gift with no strings attached"
-I'm never gonna forget that quote! Anyway, this is such a nice book, we read the Barrington Bunny story every Christmas and I love it. It's really moving and insiteful. And it is not just for children. Believe me, adults love this book too. I suggest it to anyone who has a heart, this is truly a great book.

Stories to stir your heart and spirit!
Long before the compilers of "soup" stories made their fame and fortune by gathering and publishing other folks' heartwarming stories, an authentic young cleric named Martin Bell wrote and published this exceptional collection of his own original tales of love, abandonment, and redemption.The best of Martin Bell's offerings is the Christmas story "Barrington Bunny." This touching reminder of the power of brotherly love and self-sacrifice -- a message that is, or should be, at the heart of Christmas remembrance -- has been a treasured annual tradition in my household and my classroom for many years.Even more powerful than the written version is Martin Bell's reading of his own work. Get his recording (also entitled "The Way of the Wolf") if you can, and have a supply of tissues at hand.You will discover this thin book to be an abundantly thoughtful and heartful treat for anyone who has ever pondered the real meaning of our earthly existence and our rightful relationship with one another and with our God. A refreshing antidote to the dulling cynicism and negativism of our times.If the rating scale permitted six stars, I would wnat to give "The Way of the Wolf" at least ten!{A note of caution: Several books have this same title. Only one is authored by Martin Bell.}

Thought provoking and reflective
I bought this book because I loved wolves and thought it would be interesting, in a very Discovery Channel kind-of-sense, to read the account of returning a wolf to its home. This book is so much more. It explores on a personal level the depths of learning your spiritual ancestry and coming to terms with the wildness that used to be such a part of our lives -- just like that of the wolf cubs. The language of the book is poetical without being prentious, and beautifully colors the landscape of the story.

A Personal Account of Wolf Reintroduction
Teresa Tsimmu Martino writes a wonderful tale of her rescue of a wild wolf pup which she raises to be wild. Once old enough, Ms. Martino releases the wolf into the wilderness of Washington where it has survived and had her own litter.

Martino's writing is vivid and human and full of the emotion that courses through her veins. She is also a horse trainer and has great stories to tell of her life around horses in her most recent book.

So, buy this book; await its arrival with anticipation and then savour its story as you lose yourself in her words.

Battle of love and truth in heart versing mind.
I came across this book in a magazine and decided to give it a try because of it being a true story with wolves. I was not prepared for the wonderful emotional roller coaster I got. Teresa somehow managed to tell her story with sincerety and throughout never let you forget the joy she had as well as the heart battle of doing the right thing in releasing McKenzie. She managed to make you feel like you were there in the distance watching and feeling her every move and thought. She is a wonderful storyteller and lives her life to her roots. Thanks to her for sharing and bringing us a little closer to the life of a wolf in semi captivity. Thanks T Anuyi

Song of The Wolf
This is the best book that I have ever read. I have owned 2 copies of Song of The Wolf and I have worn them out. I know that I have read it at least 12 times and will continue to read this book many more times. I really identify with Medicine Wolf. Thank you Rosanne for the adventure!

This one is mine to keep.
I absolutely love this book, story line, and the characters! It is a book I enjoy reading over and over. I have recommended it to friends, twice I have loned out my copy and I did not get either book back. I am buying my third copy and believe me I will not be loneing it out to anyone again..:)

Hauntingly Beautiful Love Story.
I read this book about a year ago. I have read quite a few books by this author and many of them remain "keepers" with me. This book I definitely recommend but be aware that you need to keep a supply of Kleenex nearby.

Excellent.
Don't be confused by the "Stones of Power" heading this book is under. The Stones do show up in this book, but otherwise this is a completely different story than the first two books. Jon Shannow is one of the best protagonists I've ever read about. Gemmel gives us a tortured hero who doesn't enjoy killing, but is extremely good at it and has to do it far more than he'd want. Shannow is a man whose faith isn't fooled by religion: he stays true to the spirit of the law while everyone else blindly follows rules. It's refreshing to see a character that's so honest and so human. We need more authors like this!

Another great book!
You've done it again Gemmell. Not only did you get me totally immersed in your story-telling again, but you did with a novel set in a post-apocolyptic world unlike any I've ever read about. The way you could jump from ancient times to a world thousand of years in the future and manage to mesh them together without conflicts or confusion is truly commendable. Loved the book, and Jon Shannow is a memorable hero

A heroic fantasy western done by one of the greats!
I became an instant David Gemmell fan after reading the last book in his 'Stones of Power' series, and have not looked back since. Every single book he has written has more or less been fantastic. None however overshadow this classic book which I highly suggest to all who read this.

'Wolf in Shadow' takes place in the far-flung future where an accident has toppled the earth, nearly destroying life and turning most of the world into a wastland. It has also released the magical Sipstraasi stones back into the world. Civilisation has worked it's way up to horse and buggies, but there exists a great evil who has built a satanic army thirsting for dominance.

There also exists The Jerusalem Man, a noble gunslinger who walks the world searching for the city of the Bible. This is Jon Shannow, one of Gemmell's greatest creations. He is a good man, but a hardened violent one who's morality is edged with a murderous quickdraw. And when he meets with Abaddon, lord of Hell and the mysterious gaurdians of the Sipstraasi, it creates one of sci-fi's under-appreciated jewel's.

Gemmel, as he is known to do, writes a strong adventure book but lines it with deep philosophical debates on the nature of evil and morality, one of those rare books that'll keep you turning pages and thinking as well.

Just a great novel from a great writer.

I expected more.
Being an adaptation by and with the great Martin Jarvis, I thought it would be absolutely excellent, as I have found his audio efforts to be always. But in his performance there is something lacking, Sir Robert Chiltern should be played with a bit more pathos. Jacqueline Bisset is formidable, and Alfred Molina also as Lord Goring.

As to being a live recording, this is a mixed blessing. This public seems to misunderstand some lines, and there are misplaced laughs, for example when Robert Chiltern says: "I did not sell myself for money. I bought success at a great price. That is all". I'm sure Wilde didn't intend this to be a joke. Chiltern is not bought, he is not changed, it is he who buys something, therefore his character, his person, is not altered. The public dismisses this important nuance and bursts into a hearty fit of laughter.

There are three o four more like that. But on the whole, this recording by L.A. Theater Works is highly enjoyable.

*An Ideal Husband* is more than an apparent oxymoron
Wilde, in part, attempts to portray the relativity of truth, power, and character, things we often take as absolutes, while also entertaining his audience with witty dialogue and comical mishaps.

Love, politics and forgiveness
Oscar Wilde gives us here one of his best plays. He explores the political world in London and how a young ambitious but poor man can commit a crime, which is a mistake, to start his good fortune. But he builds his political career on ethical principles. Sooner or later someone will come into the picture to blackmail him into supporting an unacceptable scheme, by producing a document that could ruin his career if revealed. His past mistake may come back heavily onto him. But he resists and sticks to his moral reputation. He prefers doing what is right to yielding to some menace. He may lose though his political ambition and career and his wife's love. But love is saved by forgiveness and the man's career is also saved by the work of a real friend who recaptures the dubious document and destroys it. In other words love and an ethical career are saved by the burrying of the old mistake into oblivion. In other words love and friendship are stronger than the scheming action of a blackmailer. This is a terrible criticism of victorian society which is based more on appearances than principles and yet able to destroy a man's absolutely ethical present life with a mistake from his youth, throwing the baby along with the water of the bath. It is also a criticism of the victorian political world where you cannot have a career if you are not rich, money appearing as the only way to succeed, at least to succeed fast. But it is a hopeful play because love and friendship are beyond such considerations and only consider the best interest of men and women, in the long run and in the name of absolute purity. Better be a sinner and be forgiven when you have reformed than see a reformed sinner destroyed by the lack of forgiveness. Oscar Wilde advocates here a vision of humanity that necessitates forgiveness as the essential fuel of any rational approach. Real morality is not the everlasting guilt of a sinner without any possible reform. Real morality is the recognition that forgiveness is necessary when reform has taken place. Otherwise society would be unlivable and based on hypocrisy and the death or rejection of the best people in the name of (reformed) mistakes. One must not be that sectarian, because man can learn from his mistakes and improve along the road : one can learn how to avoid mistakes and repair those oen has committed. If condemnation is absolute, no progress is possible. A very fascinating play, a very modern play. And yet when can one be considered as reformed, when can we consider one has really corrected one's mistakes and improved ? And who can deem such elements ? The very core of political and ethical rectitude is concerned here and Oscar Wilde embraces a generous approach.

I think this book was one of the best books I have read!!
This book was terrific. When I read the book MATERIAL WORLD, A GLOBAL FAMILY PORTRAIT, I thought there was no book like it that could be better. Now when I read it, all I wish is to have is WOMEN IN THE MATERIAL WORLD . I cannot believe how good it is. I recomend this book for all ages (I am 11).

Absolutely Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!
When I first ordered this book and received it in the mail, after opening the box it came in, sat down right then and there "just to take a peek". Well, let's just say, my short "peek" turned into an interrupted 30 minutes! "Women in the Material World" certainly joins the ranks of "can't-put-down-and-can't-forget-about" books. It is a very worthy sequel to "Material World", in which women from some of the "Material World" families are looked at more closely. Perhaps the most special thing about this book is a long, personal, and intimate interview with each women. The women are surprisingly open in responding about their daily life, their children, their marriage, and their future hopes. "Women in the Material World" simply lets the women speak for themselves, and in the process, breaks down many stereotypes (who would have thought a 58-year Chinese woman would love farming much more than her traditional household duties?)and lets others remain (the secluded life of an Indian woman). Statistics for that country, quick facts about each woman, a brief write-up on conditions for women in each of their countries, and field notes from the photographer further enrich this amazing book. The women in this book will inspire you, challenge you, and never let you forget this book.

Women in the Material World is a great book!
I read the book, Women in the Material World after I saw the author at a young women's conference last year. I thought the book was great. It showed many women's points of view on life and the way they live. This book made me think about other women and how we are all very different but also the same. I think this book is very truthful and has a beautiful message. There are not many books like this out there so I commend Faith for writing it.

A beautiful collection of pictures and words.
This is a wonderful book. Jim Brandenburg does a superb job of blending words with pictures to tell his story of the wolves of Ravenwood. This book is a definite "must" for all wolf lovers!

Wolf Photography Perfection
This is the most beautiful wolf book I own. The book reads poeticly, and will make you seriously fall in love with this animal. You will see through the wolf's eyes. This is one of few books were the author photographed all wild wolves, and never "lived" with the pack to do it.

INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL photography!
I actually bought the AUDIO version of BROTHER WOLF. I listened to it and was amazed at the thoughts and insights. This book was written BEFORE wolves were reintroduced into YellowStone. I was especially won over by the descriptions of the relationships of wolf and man and the relationship with the ravens. I enjoyed it so much, I decided to purchase the book as a gift for someone. I knew the author was a photographer but I guess I totally forgot about the fact that there might be PICTURES. When the book came, I was enthralled with this icing on the cake. So of course, I'm keeping the book and ordering another for the gift.

They're Hanging Fine
Somebody out there is cancelling sleazy TV talk shows with brutal efficiency. How?...by killing off their hosts using methods served from a juicy platter of mayhem. Things are going fine for this one-of-a-kind serial killer until he crosses paths with a pair of unforgettable NYPD detectives...Charlie Marchetti and Angela Buonfiglio...Brooklyn born and bred. Add the FBI and terrified network personalities into the mix and you have a real page turner...chills, suspense, humor. What more could you ask?

Congratulations to Richard Wolf on his first excursion into crime fiction. I'm looking forward to hearing more from Charlie and Angela.

Fast Paced, Page Turner.....
There's a killer loose in New York City and he's targeting talk show hosts. He's brazen and clever and has law enforcement running around in circles. Detectives Charlie Marchetti and Angela Buonfiglia, lead investigators on the case are at a loss, following leads that go nowhere and hitting nothing but blank walls. But with the brass breathing down their necks, wanting this case solved, yesterday and the body count steadily rising, there finally might be a break. The murderer has decided to make the "game" a little more interesting and sends Marchetti a letter..... Richard Wolf has written a fast paced, page turner that's about to keep you up reading, all night. This is a mystery/thriller that has it all...smart, crisp writing, interesting, well drawn characters and a tight, compelling plot full of vivid, riveting scenes that sends you on a roller coaster ride to the stunning climax and very satisfying ending of the story. Host to Homicide should definitely be on every mystery/thriller fan's "must read" list and is hopefully the beginning of a terrific new series. I look forward to meeting up with Marchetti and Buonfiglio again in the near future.

Murder, Mayhem, And Mystery
A madman with a grudge decides to improve the quality of television, by murdering the hosts of trashy TV shows. This is a fast-paced novel with a very believable plot. And it's scary enough to make Jerry Springer hire a bodyguard!

What in inspiration!!
As a beginner knitter who was frustrated in learning this wonderful craft, I found this book very inspiring and fun to read. As I dropped stitches, knitted it the wrong size, and looked at some instructions as though they were in some secret code, I would read a few stories and find myself pcking up the knitting and truly having a new outlook on life. I highly recommend this book for anyone who has ever considered knitting. Don't miss out on these GREAT stories.

WHEN YOU CAN'T KNIT
When you can't knit, why not read about it? These series of essays are so varied and interesting. Some are funny, some sad, some whimiscal, but all touch the readers heart in a special way. Perfect for taking on a plane, or any other time you can't knit.

Perfect gift for those who are readers AND knitters (like me).

My favorite story was "Baby Blanket" on page 184 by Jean Stone. So emotional, it moved me to tears.

Real people
The essays are mostly very short, which I like, because I can only go so long without knitting. (I'm working on knitting without looking, but so far am only successful with worsted weight.) Many are evidently not written by professional writers; this is a democratic and inclusive book. The essays come from all different perspectives, embracing those who are NOT philosophical about knitting along with those who are, and even those who hate knitting or don't knit. Some are hilarious, some are sad, some are boring. This book is great.

The Ties that Bind
Of all of Gemmell's extraordinary world's none have been quite as captivating as the Drenai saga. The protagonists in these books allow us glimpses of the history making events that occur in this epic, themselves usually being a catalyst of some sort, but after reading nearly a dozen of the novels, I had only theories about how these glimpses and tatters truly fit together. From everyone's favorite anti-hero Dakyras to the epitome of a hero that is Druss we had but a fog with a few clear spots.

After reading White Wolf it was as if I had fog lights. The fog is still there but I can see my way through the history I have constructed and can see glimpses of what lies ahead. Gemmell brings us both new and familiar in this novel with druss recounting some of his history and skilgannon reliving his. At the same time David teases you with a girl carrying the Prince of Assassins crossbow and body parts of slain hero's being preserved which proved enough to make me salivate about the possibilities.
While perhaps not individually as awe in-spiring as Legend and Hero in the Shadows, it is a masterful piece that lends cohesion to this world that I so love. If that is not enough for you... our troubled protagonist fights with two katanas... how cool is that.

Heroic Fantasy ( THE BEST )
Every time I read a David Gemmell novel I really become an extra character , he is that good . I have read avidly every offering and still eagerly anticipate Gemmells' next . His heroes are flawed , if old craggy Druss is new to you its' time to be acquainted , his return in White Wolf is wonderful . Read this , there is no better .

Another Exciting Gemmell Novel
David Gemmell's new novel 'White Wolf' is a great read. Although marketed as a Druss novel, Druss is a secondary character in this morality play. Skilgannon is the real star of this novel; a deadly young warrior with a twisted past. As in all of the David Gemmell novels, Skilgannon is a damaged and in many ways morally corrupt individual reminiscent of the early Clint Eastwood, 'Man with No Name' characters.

As is all of Gemmell's work, the writing is sharp and the dialogue clean and clear. Gemmell's real gift however, lies in his utterly human, 3-dimensional characters. Interestingly, the author explains (via his characters dialogue) how a warrior must think in black and white terms; wrong and a right; good and evil. Gemmell's characters are none of those things. They are all wonderfully filled with shades of gray, just like all of us.

'White Wolf' and all of it's new characters are a wonderful addition to the continuing Drenai saga. I for one would like to see more of Skilgannon. Although complete in and of itself, this novel begs to be followed with more stories of Skilgannon.
