The best gift you could give a friend suffering heartbreak
This is the only book on soulmates/past lives I've ever read that fully addresses the reasons why you might feel that absolutely soul-shattering connection to someone and still have to part ways, or not be able to be together. She smashes the rose-colored glass picture of soulmates and gives readers a mature understanding that is perfectly aligned with the concept of earthly life as a classroom for soul growth. I have recommended this book to countless friends going through heartbreaks and every single one has found it a great healing experience. I'm back at this site again to re-order because once again I gave away my copy!

If you have experienced a soulmate encounter Read This Book!
Ms Hall tackles a tough subject in "Hands Across Time," and comes as close as is possible to defining just what a "soulmate" really is and why meeting one may be a harrowing experience. It is no exaggeration to say that Ms. Hall's book has saved this writer's sanity by explaining how phenomena connected with the soulmate experience works and where it originates. I earnestly recommend this book to anyone who has had a perplexing or confusing "soulmate" experience.

Holocaust: From Past to Present
A wonderful collection of artwork that ranges from the history of the Holocaust to how it's dangers are still present in modern society. I have the honor of attending a university that is displaying the artwork and the having the artist visit. It is a must see for every race and nationality. If you are unable to see the work in person, this book is a MUST have!

Excellent
A terrific book by one of the most famous feminist artists. When one considers the cruelties of males against Jewish women during and after the Holocaust, it is a pleasure to discover this book, which shows Judy Chicago's passionate work to remind us of the horrors while also discovering her Jewishness just as she contemplated the victimization of the Jews. I love this book.

Here is a great house for kids to check out on Halloween
As you can easily guess from the title, "The House That Drac Built" takes the basic structure of "The House That Jack Built" and throws in everything from a bat and a cat to a manticore and the fiend of Bloodygore. Everything chains out, albeit rattling chains covered with dust from a dungeon, and young children will love the way new monsters keep getting added into the mix. Then, just to make things really fun, some children show up trick or treating and pretty much scare the monsters. Author Judy Sierra keeps this relatively simply despite offering up such things as a fearsome manticore (apparently she and her husband like to convince trick-or-treaters that they have come to the house that Drac built, which apparently is located in Eugene, Oregon). Will Hillenbrand's illustrations are atmospheric without being overly spooky (e.g., the mummy from days of yore), thereby catching the whimsy of this particular tale. Be sure to have your kids check out the cover where all of the characters from inside the book can be found lurking around somewhere.

This is a fabulous book to teach basic counting skills.
I am a student studying to be a teacher at UNL. I used The House That Drac Built for a lesson on counting. I created a felt board and allowed the children to add the characters as I read. We counted them and then took them away at the end when the children arrive at Drac's home. I found this book to be very entertaing and useful in my lesson. It served as a perfect way to integrate literature into my Math lesson If you agree with me, please respond and let me know what you think! I would love to know what you think!

How to Survive Your Hospital Stay
Published in Paperback by Center Pr (1998)
Authors: Judy Burger Crane and Jason Young
Amazon base price: $11.95
Average review score:

A practical, easy to read guide.
"How to survive your hospital stay" is a practical, easy to read guide for anyone facing a hospital stay.
Judy Burger Crane, a Registered Nurse, wrote this book with experience and insight. It is nicely organized into 20 short chapters, so you can quickly find the info you need:
The chapter "Choices" gives you tips on how to find the best hospital and doctors.
In the section "Questions, Questionnaires and other paperwork", Judy gives tips on how to get prepared for the paperwork maze.
A "must read" is the chapter "Countdown" which contains checklists on what you can do to prepare for your hospital stay (pay bills in advance, stop newspaper, put mail on hold,...) and what to take to the hospital (yes, the earplugs were my lifesaver).
You will also find explanations of some of the medical terms and abbreviations frequently used in the hospital; what happens at the day of the surgery; and how to prepare for a good recovery.
After reading this book, I was better prepared, more confident and relaxed about my surgery and hospital stay.

An essential guide for anyone facing hospitalization.
For most of us, a stay in the hospital is a rarity. Fear and ignorance combine to make it a very unsettling experience. Nurse Crane has tackled these problems with a delightful exploration of what you should know about medical practices, the mumbo-jumbo that they use to communicate and patient's rights.

She draws on her career in nursing and an obvious empathy for patients, to educate patients on what they are about to encounter, how to prepare for the experience and what to do while they are there. The writing style is delightfully comfortable for "civilians" and is augmented by a collection of humorous illustrations. Scattered throughout are vignettes drawn directly from her own experiences.

An interesting innovation is her periodic recommendations for the reader to keep notes about their experience (and those unanswered questions) and she even provides space to record these observations.

Although the tone is light and even downright funny in places, Crane takes on even the heaviest of topics: disagreeing with the doctor, pain tolerance and management, organ donations, who pays, why things are done this way, being discharged too soon, how to make and communicate your choices, the Patient's Bill of Rights, and all the other things you need to know, and don't know who to ask.

If you (or someone you know) are facing a stint in the hospital, I highly recommend this little book as a pleasant , but effective, way to ease the process and improve the outcome.

These poems make us smile!
It's amazing to hear how quickly and easily these poems are learned and recited by the children. The expression in their voices and on their faces are proof that these words have made a positive impression. Social skills are easily understood and internalized using this enjoyable approach. The poems are addictive: my students can't recite one without rolling into another. Teaching cooperation and encouraging positive self-esteem has never been easier!

Clever poems and lessons for children!
"I Like Being Me" is a wonderful resource for parents and teachers. This thought-provoking collection is filled with practical, down-to-earth "lessons for life" that adults try so hard to share with youngsters . . . usually without success. The book's clear and clever messages combined with supportive photos provides entertainment and insights for children, parents and teachers.

Teaching Writing
I found this to be one of the most useful books for teaching writing skills. It is loaded with ideas that can be used in the classroom and can be used with teaching teachers how to teach writing skills. This book has some of the most creative and effective ideas I have seen in a long time. In fact I loaned it to someone about a year ago and have not seen it since. This demonstrates its quality. It is an easy read with samples that one can use in class forever. I recommend it highly.

excellent resource for upper-elementary writing teachers
This book provides numerous ideas and suggestions for creative and purposeful writing activities for upper elementary level students. The activities are easy to intergrate in a busy classroom, can be adapted for different grade and ability levels, and the kids love them!

wonderful, wonderful book!
This volume is a collection of comic, cute, and ironic poems and stories that are great for young and old! You can read about boys who own hippopotomi, chivalrous sharks, doctors who doctor doctors, and much more. This is a must for new parents - great for teens, too (I've used it often for forensics and play auditions). It's worth whatever price you pay. Get it!

This is a trove of funny stories and lessons for kids.
This book collects together classic stories like "Alice in Wonderland," along with more obscure stories and lots of entertaining poetry. Writing is on a level that children can easily appreciate, but much of the humor can be appreciated by adults as well. It's a slightly off-the-wall way to get kids interested in reading and learning, and it's fun for parents and their audience!
