Renewed Health
Before reading Take Two Apples and Call Me in the Morning, I was recovering from heart surgery and had gained fifty pounds. I tried to follow a low-fat diet, but I was always hungry for a carbo binge, and was on the verge of gaining more weight. Low energy, poor sleep, aching joints, and itchy skin made me miserable and grouchy. What a revelation this book was! Adding fat in the form of olive oil, butter, and flax oil to my diet, eliminating wheat/sugar products, and eating protein with veggies for meals and snacks was the key to improved health. Judy Stone clearly and thoroughly instructs the reader to throw out the legalism of all those other "diets" and to eat the food your body needs to heal itself and maintain health. Do you want strong bones, supple skin, strong hair and nails, energy, a feeling of not being hungry between meals? Get this book.

A different low-carb book
I've read many of the low carb books (Atkins, Eades, Heller, Zone etc.) and this one is different. First, it's got lots of health info that the others don't have or may only touch on. Second, it makes the science/medical stuff about the body super easy to understand and interesting to read. And third, it has a very positive, supportive tone for people who are trying to change, and lays things out in easy to follow steps instead of asking you to change everything at once. It also addresses the psychology of making changes and not just the food part. I'd recommend this book for anyone who was new to cutting carbs or an old hand at it. Also, it's got some great recipes--a great BBQ sauce, lots of main dishes that aren't heavy on the cream and butter, and others I haven't tried yet that look good. I'm a personal trainer and I've recommended this book to all my clients.

Enhanced with more than 100 recipes
Accessible written for the non-specialist general reader by Judy Stone (a former psychotherapist who has become an experienced and knowledgeable nutritionist), Take Two Apples And Call Me In The Morning: A Practical Guide To using The Power Of Food To Change Your Life! is a straightforward and "user friendly" guide to understanding and meeting the nutritional needs of one's body, while debunking myths and offering solid, reliable advice to eating a balanced diet, limiting artificial stimulants such as caffeine, developing delicious menu plans that benefit overall health, and much more. Enhanced with more than 100 recipes, Take Two Apples And Call Me In The Morning is very highly recommended reading for anyone seeking to alter their eating patterns and habits for the better.

A must for adopted children
As an adoptive parent and the founder of Building Blocks Adoption Service, Inc. I highly recommend this tape for your adopted child. We adopted our daughter from Russia and she is so into learning her culture and very proud to be able to sing Russian songs. I highly recommend enhancing your child's culture by buying this tape.

Fun Russian Songs
This book & tape uses traditional Russian songs, in addition to songs my daughter all ready knew in English, which she now knows in Russian as well! I was skeptical at first, but now I think it's a great teaching method.

LOVE IT!
My husband, Jim, and I adopted a little 3 year old boy, Steven, from Russia last year. Of course, being three, he spoke Russian as his native language. He had never even heard English until he met us. Now, eight months later, he speaks fluent English. However, I did not want him to lose his Russian speaking skills. As Jim and I only speak a few Russian parenting phrases, we could not really build on his skills.

My sister discovered Teach Me Russian and bought if for us. I put it in the stereo for Steven to hear. I was concerned as it started playing as he sometimes gets tense when he hears people speaking in Russian. But my concerns were needless. He looked up at me and had the biggest grin on his face. He said, "I like this one Mama!"

We often play classical or relaxing music for him as he settles in bed after his bath and reading time. Now when Jim goes to start the stereo he says, "Papa, can I hear the FUNNY one" (Meaning the Russian one)....After a couple of days, I said, "Steven, it's not FUNNY, it's Russian". So now he says, Papa, can I hear the Russian one"....I thought he understood that Russian was another language until the other day when he was watching a cartoon and I said, "That's FUNNY!" He looked up at me and said, "That's not FUNNY Mama, that's RUSSIAN!" I cracked up. I guess he's too young to understand we speak many languages on this Earth, but he's not too young to know he loves your tapes.

While I understand the primary use for your tapes is to teach children other languages, I think it is a wonderful comforting tool for internationally adopted children. International adotption is a humanitarian cause which is helping children all over the world. As Americans in a land of pleanty we have so much to share. So much love, opportunity, and good will to give.

The Best in the Series!
McGown keeps on getting better and better with each new installment in the Lloyd/Judy series. Her character development for her key characters is very good (along the lines of Elizabeth George). She does a really good job with the new characters in each story too. This book keeps you guessing until the very end, and like all good British procedurals, has two or three story strands that come together at the end. In this case there is a freed rapist that got out of jail on a technacality and we know it won't be long before he rapes again. There is a very likeable pimp that appears to be doing some double-dealings, a murder and there is a string of burglaries. We have more suspects for the rapes and burglaries than we know what to do with - and lo and behold - one of the suspects (for the murder) is Judy herself. Judy and Lloyd's relationship advances to another level in this book, and it's probably about time too. Also, they get a new boss who appears to be caught in a sexist timewarp. Very good stuff!

brilliant story - a must have
At first I wasn't sure, whether I liked this book or not, because it started of in a way that is rather untypical for Jill McGown. Having a little knowledge of the English legal sector myself, I found the court scenes convincing but wanted McGown to go on, to get to the real story. Well, I can only say that this is clearly one of the best books by Jill McGown. You won't be able to guess who committed the crimes and McGwon is fantastic when it comes to portraying different characters. Chief Inspector Lloyd and Judy Hill have become close friends of mine. A must have.

A very good English police procedural
In East Midlands, the Stealth Bomber has raped four women. Detective Inspector Judy Hill believes that the police have finally caught the culprit, Colin Arthur Drummond, who confesses to Judy that he committed the cr imes. Beyond the confession, the case appears to still be open and shut. There is DNA evidence linking Colin to the victims and two witnesses have fingered Drummond as the rapist. So why is Drummond wandering the stree ts a free man eighteen months later and Hill under police suspicion? ...... Colin starts to follow Judy as he hints that she will be his next victim. He also stalks some of his previous victims. Adding to Judy's concern is that the internal affairs folks have launched their own investigatio n on the original mishandling of the Drummond case by the police with Hill being their intended target. Only her lover and superior, Inspector Lloyd believes Judy handled things above board in accordance with acceptable police procedures. With an obvious rapist on the loose and on her back, and her own peers openly accusing her of error, what's a police officer to do? For Judy the answer is simple: stop Drummond from succeeding with h is next rape whose target appears to be Judy Hill, a police officer under siege from all sides but still determined to see justice served. ...... VERDICT UNSAFE is a very good English police procedural that is the eighth Lloyd and Hill mystery novel. Judy is a superb professional, whose exploits are always fun to read. Readers need to bear with this book becau se it starts a bit slow, but when it takes off, it rockets. Jill McGown provides her audience with a complex and interesting novel that is a great addition to a fantastic series. ......Harriet Klausner

Asks the follow-up questions and the questions behind those.
"What to Expect in Your Fifties" is a gem. Mandell has asked brilliant M.D.'s and Ph.D.'s in the major medical specialties the tough questions. Then she asks the follow-up questions and the questions behind those questions - the ones you have on your mind but somehow never get to ask the doctor. Judy Mandell asks the experts what to expect from our breasts, eyes, ears, feet, teeth, skin, digestive system, skin, hair, nails and memory. Then she asks for advice about weight control, menopause, strength training, estrogen, and stress. She has a superb section on preventive health strategies and maintenance, rejuvenation and reconstruction. This book is the one that you must get just for YOU.

Women need to know about this!
Many women are concerned about there health as we approach our 50's. We all just want to forget that we are going into our 50's or growing older in general. Women need to know about this. We really don't have many books on this subject. Our body is aging, growing older with certain problems which need to be addressed and must know about. It is an important aspect Judy Mandell points out, which have concerned all of us are the memory loss and weight gain. I have noticed this more now so during my late 40's. In the beginning I could not understand why I was gaining weight and I looked over my diet, my exercise plan, and was completely disturbed me. Then I would make my usual list in my head and then just suddenly forget it. It is so frustrating! Now as the author points out there are several good supplements and exercises to halt the aging process and possibly recover our memories. I believe we should read this book while we are in the mid 40's to get the best results now!

What a great resource!
I just picked up this book and have read every page. At the same time educational and enlightening, Ms. Mandel really hits the spot -- I am a woman in my 50s and I felt like the book was written just for me!

great for teachers
This book is exactly what I hoped it would be- it gives solid information on gifted children and suggests ways to help them talk about concerns and challenges that come with the "gifted" label. This book was a wonderful discovery for me-- a brand new teacher of the gifted. (One chapter is devoted to the teacher.) The information in this book is encouraging for those new to the field and provides valuable insights into some of the general characteristics of gifted kids and the issues they face. It has some questionnaires and material that could easily lead you and into meaningful discussions.

Survival Guide for Teachers of Gifted Students
I think it is too bad that somehow the title of this book doesn't convey (at least to me) that it is intended for teachers. This could be the companion to the Survival Guides for Gifted Kids. Too bad the title Survival Guide for Gifted Teachers doesn't quite work.

At any rate, I have found the book to be packed with good, concrete suggestions for adding a much needed social and emotional component to any gifted program. It would be wonderful if it were in notebook size, so the questionaires and exercises could just be photocopied, but at least they are laid out well. This book is full of good, workable suggestions and is recommended highly for all teachers, but especially those teachers who deal with gifted students.

IMMENSELY HELPFUL FOR TEACHERS (PARENTS, TOO)
This book covers all the bases. In a busy classroom, it's all too easy to think that just because a child is testing well, he or she is doing well. But a child who's smart beyond his years, may be slow to make friends, understand social situations, and cope with the pressures and mixed messages that being gifted brings. Galbraith and Delisle provide a much-needed focus to the social and emotional skills that all children need to succeed in school and life. They take the jargon out of the theories and offer solid, practical, and easy-to-implement suggestions and tips. Don't believe the rumor that gifted kids (and their parents) are "high maintenance." Read this book and don't be surprised if what you learn will help ALL your students.

little yet packs a punch
I was surprised at how small this book is when it arrived, but knew I needed it as part of my calligraphy library. There are so many helpful techniques, and they're written in such a clear, concise manner. I know I'll refer to this book again and again. I liked the project section as well since I sometimes get stuck on what to create.

Beautiful
A very good book on Caligraphy, and very impressive. I highly suggest it.

Easy to read and hard to put down.
A guide to living life with purpose & joy. It challenges readers to look at their belief systems with an open mind. Judy Laslie has done a good job providing the formula for learning how life works and how to feel good. The cover is eye-catching. If you want self-discovery, you will find this book helpful.

Self-acceptance in a nutshell!
Laslie says whatever life's choices turn out to be, they are the ones we made on our own. Blame no one else for them. Take responsibility for all our perceived negatives along with the perceived positives. She has two pages of labels we use on ouselves and others that are very judgmental and destructive. Laslie says we give our power away when we let others influence our thoughts, or take control of our life. The affirmations for guidance, and special prayers sprinkled throughout the pages are food for thought. Very Practical

Wonderful, Uplifting Story
My children and I thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful book. It has everything we love in stories: mystery, drama, comedy. We can't wait to read more about Molly!

Hope, Love and Passion, a Beautiful Gift of Life,
As a collage student I have been asked to read many books, both for class and leasure. I have always found that most authors can not capture my attention past the first chapter, sad but true. Untill I picked up the Snow Wolf by Mrs. Judy Day. It is not often a writer can bring a story to life as done so in this book. I hung on every word as the writer brought me into a magical world. With chills and over come emotion I read through each chapter. Mrs. Day has brought the story of a young women to life the hearts of all that read her book.
I truly believe that Mrs. Day has been given a gift for her writing. She has brought passion, love and morals back into what we read and has done so in a magical way!!
I truely look forward to any up and coming books that Mrs. Day has coming out.
I wish her the best of luck!

Are You A Spider?

Another "fun science" book for the early reader!
These "Are you a...?" books all present sound backyard science in plain kid-speak, inviting early readers to enter the spider's world in a humourous and engaging way.
My daughter, who's 6, and a beginning reader, loves the way these books don't talk down to her. They're easy, but not babyish -- just the right combination for building a love of reading that will last a lifetime!

Introducing spiders
"Are You a Spider?", by Judy Allen and Tudor Humphries, is a good book for children. The collaborators use a simple text and appealing, colorful illustrations to describe the lives of spiders.

The text opens, "Are you a spider? If you are, your mother looks like this and spins webs." The reader is thus invited to put herself/himself into the spider's place. The book illustrates the process of building a web, and shows other essential aspects of a spider's life. Overall, a very informative and enjoyable book.

very interesting information for us to read. It had a lot of useful resources. Very well written.

A Great Resource
Not only does this book explain many different forms of psychic vulnerability, it explains in step-by-step details how to protect yourself. I have recommended it many, many times to people who counsel others or who find their energy lost for unexplained reasons.
