The most poetic of translations.
Gandhi found this translation of the Gita to be the best he was able to find. Little more need be said.

The classic translation in affordable format.
The Bhagavadgita is one of the world's true classics of literature. Since it is not part of "western culture" it is often not included in the curriculum of school in the US, much to our loss. This translation is one of the most common, and the Dover edition is incredibly affordale. Being abridged, it is not a text for scholarly studies, but instead provides a great introduction to wisdom from the east... Highly recommended for students and casual readers.

The Most Profound Influence in MY life
Bhagvad Gita is a Wonderful Poem in Indian Literature (Sanskrit language). But given the fact that this language is no longer spoken (just like Latin), the contents of the great works such as Bhagvad Gita have to be read in translated forms.

Sir Arnold's translation is in poetic form, unlike most translations, which are mainly prose.

It makes for a concise reading, without really missing the the essence.

The Gita is my Manager, and I have personally benefitted immensely in dealing with main daily life sitiuations both in family and work. It has made a profound diference to my decision making ability qand leadership qualities.

I sincerely hope that every ambitious person takes time to read this and beenfit from the relevant parts of the text.

Exploring Black Holes: Introduction to General Relativity

Terrific - but not easy
As other reviewers have said, Taylor and Wheeler accomplish something marvelous (and by conventional wisdom impossible), making a non-trivial portion of general relativity accessible to physics undergraduates. But be warned that "accessible" does not mean easy! A good background in special relativity is essential, for example from the authors' earlier book Spacetime Physics. Beyond that, readers must be prepared for convoluted reasoning and heavy duty algebra in some parts of the book, covering the more esoteric optical effects of black holes and the effects of rotation. It was an effort for me to get through this book - but well worth it.

Just wonderful!
This book is different from every other introduction to general relativity I know. And better. The eminent authors connect geometry directly to physics, bypassing tensors. Curvature in space is detected by very simple length measurements; curvature in time, by the lengthening of periods of oscillations. There are nuggets in almost every page. I loved the demonstration that you don't really need coordinates to describe geometry: the shape of a boat is reconstructed entirely in terms of distances. Their dynamical principle is the maximum proper time principle. The way they derive energy and momentum from this principle is sterling physics. You'll learn a lot of general relativity in this book. Not all of it. But, learning to love it, you'll learn the advanced topics that cannot be treated this way by yourself, in other books. Perhaps in the huge Misner, Thorne, Wheeler.

A Great Achievement.
I have not yet finished reading this book but my excitement over its brilliance forces me to comment. This book is shear magic in its ability to explain very difficult and strange phenomena in an intuitive and simple way. I have read the authors' book SpaceTime Physics as well as GR by Schutz and can do the tensors and all that; yet I am in awe of the ability these authors have of succeding at the near impossible. Using the study of black holes as the motivation for GR study is perfect. I love the choice of the variational principle to cut to the heart of the math. I recommend this book to anyone for self-study who has a smattering of calculus (not much is really needed). I am looking forward to studying Kip Thorne's membrane paradign book next. Gentlemen, kudos in the highest!

Awesome Fantasy adventure
From back of book:Y'Gora is threatened... Goblins, demons and worse spill over the Dark BOrder, attacking Rath Tintallain and hte priceless treasure it holds. The Hasturs fear that the fall of Rath Tintallain will bring utter destruction, and summon a gathering of the greatest heroes - elves, dwarves and mortal men - for a desperate stand. And Istvan DiVega is called to join the fray, fighting shoulder to shoulder with men of legend. They are the last defense against the Shadow.......

Echoes of the Great Song
As many other's, I was also shattered to hear of Mr. Zimmer's untimely death. I remember the Goosebumps that would continually envelope me when reading his books. That to me, was the mark of a great novel...a rare occurrence to this jaded reader of thousands of Fantasy/Sci-Fi books over the last 25 years. A Gathering of Heroes was among his best work, right up there with the wonderfully fabulous Dark Prince & King Chondos' Ride. Only David Gemmell has since written books that can equal Mr. Zimmer's in grandeur. That rare intuitive grasp of human nature & complexities was his forte, & he wielded it with uncanny precision & care. You were thrust into his visions & imagination within the first few pages...& you felt lost & alone when the last page was read & the journey done. I HIGHLY recommend his books to anyone who wants 'Mature', 'Realistic', 'Dark' Fantasy. Except for David Gemmell, there is NO substitute.

A Masterpiece
I was devastated to read of this author's death. This book ranks second only to "Ender's Game" in my library of favorites. Though hard to find, it is worth the effort.

Good book
The book is great..Does anyone know where I can get the series by Paul E. Zimmer?

Great book. If you can find it give it a try.
Outstanding. A classis example of Good vs Evil. Plenty of Magic, hate, love, betrayal and action. The setting is dark and gloomy, like the Black company books, but in a way similar to Feists books. A world half covered by a dark shadow in which evil wizards, vampires, trolls, goblins and their evil human allies strive to consume all that is in their path. The forces of good, lead by the Hasturs, who are powerful magicians, constantly battle for survival against overwhelming odds. The war is fought on many fronts in different kingdoms by brave men and women. I have been fortunate enough to have owned and read the other two Dark Border novels, King Chondos's Ride and A Gathering of Heroes. This series is fantastic and does not get the credit it deserves. Too bad that these books are very difficult to find, but they are worth the trouble of finding.

If you love Patrica Hodgell and David Gemmell then read this
Do your like Dark Heroic Fantasy where the enemy is implacable, insidious and not constrained by human moral concerns. Where ancient beings of great power wage unending war. Where the humans are completely aware of what will happen to them and all they hold dear if they fail to stand firm and to hold the line. This the world of Paul Edwinn Zimmer. The world of 'The Dark Border'. The writing is tight, fluid and descrpitve. The action fast paced. In this world you know who your enemies are, the problem is knowing who your are friends. So come brave reader journey with Istvan Divega as he tries to honour an oath he made long ago and now deeply regrets. Where honour, daring and bravery still hold true.

[A Review]
I Just got through reading the book for the second time, and it
was just as good to me the second time as the first.
I will never understand the disparagey in the verdicts. To me the one that was most guilty got off scott free, while the least
guilyy got the worst punishment. That militarry justicefor you though.

Justice in the Field
"Son Thang" is both an important work of legal scholarship and a compelling, well-written story. Col. Solis documents, step by step, exactly how the Marine Corps treated its own suspected of war crimes in Vietnam-they were quickly tried, and if convicted, imprisoned. There were no coverups and no excuses. Marines accused of killing non-combatants were swiftly brought to book and the chips allowed to fall where they may. Here, it appears that several of the Marine Corps prosecutors were out-lawyered by civilian attorneys. That doesn't matter; a trial is, after all, a contest. What matters is that the Marine Corps had-and has always had and will always have-the will to try those accused of atrocities.

A very interesting book. The author was not afraid to put the blame where it belonged. I wonder how many more such incidents happened in the time we were in Nam.As a Nam vet I know to well what it was like to be in a situation where you are damned if you do and damned if you don't. Hind sight is always 20 - 20,but sometimes our boys were put in a situation like that and were killed if they didn't take the nescesary steps. I am not condoning any senseless killing, but when it is kill or be killed you do what you have to do.

Excellent writing, and artistry.
A superior book! The author presents the history of this island in a glorious fashion. The artist is superb. Recommended reading for everyone.

This book is a must-read for all MANKIND (humankind?)
Mr. Green makes history enjoyable, even to those who may have originally thought that they didn't like history. Upon reading this book one quickly realizes that history is indeed alive with intrigue and heart-ache. Join the ranks of those who have read and been changed by this book

A first-rate history of a beautiful place
The typical visitor to St. Simons Island heads straight to the beach. But the vacationer's stay would be greatly enhanced by a quick detour to the local bookstore to buy a copy of this excellent book, which makes for easy beach reading. Mr. Green has made history come alive by highlighting the lifestyle of the island's pre-Civil War residents and by portraying its surprising significance to John Wesley, founder of the Methodist Church. Mary Green's illustrations enrich the text by portraying both the beauty of the island and the strength of character of its early residents. The net result of the "Green team's" efforts make those who come to the island realize that it is more than just a pretty place

one of the most fascinating books I have ever read
Truly spellbinding, nicely paced, and perfect length. After you read this book you will be amazed at what is left out of the history classroom. Don't miss a chance to read it.

A Gripping Read!
Gene Smith is a well-known historian who sticks to the facts. Yet his writing keeps his readers intrigued every step of the way. Of course, he is working with a family of thespians and a thick plot to begin with, which always helps. But Smith refuses to include any heresay or rumor - his writing is respectable AND creative. Smith remains unbiased, which is unusual with such a heated set of events. I have read dozens of books on the Booth family, and this is by far the best!

If only history classes were taught like this!
All I'd ever heard about was Booth the assassin of Lincoln. I had no idea he came from such a fascinating and talented family! So many details are given of his life and the lives of those surrounding this one event in history and yet his life is generally summarized in a few sentences. This book (and audio tape which I highly recommend) should be filmed and shown in schools, it's that interesting. Hearing it read brings up images as from the days of radio programs, only more rich in color and depth. I like this book so much I'm trying to find a copy. It must be better the second time around.

MIDWEST BOOK REVIEW
To me, this is a must teaching book for all serious Christians. A book on prayer, spiritual warfare and exercising our faith in a God who loves us.

For Christians, the ultimate goal is to be the Bride of Christ. To do this, as with all those who are awaiting their bridegroom, we must prepare ourselves. This book helps you to do that, teaching in a clear understanding way, what is required of Jesus' church, His bride and how to obtain that goal. This book
will not disappoint you, I promise!

Highly recommended! A must read for Christians that take their walk serious!

Billy Graham Forward
The most extraordinary book I've ever read outside the Bible. It has passed Thomas A. Kempis' "Imitation of Christ" and Oswald Chambers' "My Utmost For His Highest" on my list. It is so 'meaty', you cannot just read it through, but must pray over every section til it becomes a part of you. Simply lifesaving! Wonderful!

A contemporary classic!
Finally! - purpose in prayer beyond ourselves!

Billiheimer's book will stand along side those other great classics on prayer written by the likes of Andrew Murray, E.M. Bounds, and Norman Grubb.

For individual devotion or congregational study, this book will challenge typical Christian thinking, enlarge small worldviews and propel the believer into enthusiastic and faithfilled intercession.

Five Points of Calvinism: A Study Guide

What is needed when considering this difficult subject
A Scriptural study guide is exactly what one needs when making a decision on Calvinism vs. Arminianism. More often than not, when people are first confronted with Calvinism view of God's sovereignty and salvation, they rebel against it. The concept simply goes against the natural mind's idea of how things should be. But for the Christian, our personal feeling of how things "should be" should not be the determining factor on what to believe. The only thing that matters is: what do the Scriptures teach?

So if you are struggling with this topic, get this book and go through the studies. And most importantly, look up all of the Scripture references. And for more help in this regard, you might want to check out the three chapters on this subject in my book "Scripture Workbook: For Personal Bible Study and Teaching the Bible." These chapters list hundreds of verses upholding the absolute sovereignty of God and the five points of Calvinism.

Helpful guide to TULIP
Palmer's book is a helpful guide to the so-called Five Points of Calvinism. He tells us at the very beginning of his book that there is much more to Calvinism than these 5 points, and that they were not invented by Calvin. It is also worth pointing out that they are a response to a submission to the Church of Holland and not an original statement by Calvinist believers.

I found Palmer's presentation compelling. I think that if you believe the Bible is authoritative, he has shown that the so-called five points are its teaching [along with much, much else].

Palmer's short account of Calvin's perseverance despite opposition and all sorts of illnesses is also a worthwhile feature of this book.

If you want to pursue this topic further, I also recommend Loraine Boettner's Reformed Doctrine of Predestination and Wayne Grudem's Systematic Theology for more detailed treatments.

Palmer's handles Scripture better than similar books.
Palmer does a better job than other authors covering this area. He does far more biblical exegesis (which you'd expect from the Executive Secretary of the NIV Bible), and his exegesis is generally more precise. (I've long wished Sproul would revise his Chosen by God to include more exegesis.) Palmer's methodology is sound. He raises the issues, then let's Scripture prove his (and its) point, but not in the "list of prooftexts" way that Steele & Thomas take. He exposits the passages he relies upon to bolster his argument, which is helpful. Unlike a few authors with similar books who shall remain nameless, Palmer is not an angry man, and doesn't have a chip on his shoulder or a proverbial axe to grind. He isn't teaching "against those terrible Arminians"--he simply wants his fellow Christians to understand our neediness and God's grace--a grace he models in response. His treatment of predestination is solid, biblical and uncompromised... and kind.

You never forget such a book
Though it looks quite old fashioned to-day, it is full of sound advice that ar untemporal and international ... Hints are so well related to our human nature that you will appreciate this book whether you are chinese or from Albion (Michigan), the most beautiful small college in the world!

Short Practical Advice
This is the first time management book I read. This book contains sections of practical advice to help you get things done. I consider it almost as good as "Working Smart" by Michael Leboeuf.

My life is much more fun & balanced since reading this book!
It's truly a shame that this book is no longer stocked. Since I first read it, back in 1990, I have recycled over 8 hours, per week, back into my personal life. This is the gift of this book. I learned that time management isn't simply a bunch of random techniques that allow you to spend more time at work. Instead, it's a set of a few effective principles that allow you to spend more time in your life. To play more. Visit more. Enjoy more. It's easy-to-read and easy-to-do. Within 7 days you'll see and "feel" the difference in your life!
