How to dress salmon flies : a handbook for amateurs
Published in Unknown Binding by A. &. C. Black ()
Author: Thomas Edwin Pryce-Tannatt

Average review score:

The last of the old masters..
T. E. Pryce Tannant was the last of the old masters in the golden age of salmon fly tying/development. This book is a great reference for those interested in the historical nature of tying fully dressed salmon flies. Price-Tannant's recipes for patterns, first described buy Francis, Kelson, Hale etc., were often among the most complex. Tannant also made the greatest use of, most notably, florican bustard in his dressings. This book, along with those of the other authors mentioned, is a must for those interested in the history salmon flies.

The Human Brain and Spinal Cord: A Historical Study Illustrated by Writings from Antiquity to the Twentieth Century (Norman Neurosciences, No 2)

Edición limitada a 750 ejemplares. Fascinación para quienes, como yo mismo, somos bibliómanos y neurólogos.

One of the best mongraphs I've seen
First off, I personally love Makovecz's work, and this volume only serves to confirm that Makovecz is one of the most inspired architects currently practicing. This beautiful book is the only one to bring Makovecz to life for those who have not had the privilege of seeing any of his works with their own eyes. I hope that one day Makovecz will be as famous as he deserves

Brings back a lot memories to a tin can sailor in the KW
Very good description of life on a tin can during Korea. I was a radarman petty officer on the USS Eversole (DD789). Some flaws: I saw no "posh hotels" in Yokosuka; in fact, nothing posh in Japan at that time. Misspelled the Keyes from Desdiv 31. Accurate description of a tin can in a typhoon except I believe the descriptions of rolls in the high 50-degrees and up to 70 degrees exceed the design limits of a top-heavy Sumner. The worst I ever experienced was 47-degrees and we almost didn't come out of it. The "incident" that MacArthur was apparently trying to create off Swatow begs for verification. Have never read of the incident in any history of the war, including a book on the covert/intelligence side. Without giving a source for the information, the author is asking a lot of the reader. But I highly recommend the book for any tin can sailor in the Korean War.

The Influence of Greek Ideas and Usages Upon the Christian Church

Illuminating study of Greek influence on Christianity
This book consists of the Hibbart Lectures of 1888 that were published following the death of Edwim Hatch, a devout Christian scholar. His thesis is clearly stated: "It is impossible for any one, whether he be a student of history or no, to fail to notice a difference of both form and content between the Sermon on the Mount and the Nicene Creed... The one belongs to a world of Syrian peasants, the other to a would of Greek philosophers. The contrast is patent.... The presumption is that [the change] was the result of Greek influence. It will appear from the Lectures that this presumption is true. Their general subject is, consequently, The Influence of Greece upon Christianity." Anyone who has wrestled with the contrasting images of the teaching of Jesus in the New Testament and the propositional creeds of later Christianity, and who has wondered how "belief" as trust and confidence in a person became transmuted into "belief" meaning assent to a series of metaphysical propositions will find Hatch's work very illuminating, in spite of its age and somewhat stilted (by today's standards) language. Highly recommended, and worth seeking out.

Ingulf the Mad

P.C Hodgell and David Gemmell fans read this book.
This book details the reason for Ingulf's madness and the origins of Carroll Mac Lir. We find out a considerable amount about the structure of society in the dreaded land of Sarlow be warned some of it is quite stomach turning. Making cameo apparences are Svaran the Black, Grom Beardless and Vildren as well as a certain traitor. This book is diffrent in tempo from Paul Zimmer's other books. Due in part to the Focus on Ingulf's angst over his unrequited love for an elven princess and Vildren questioning of his long held belief systems. But have no fear there is still plenty of swashbuckling action and heroism to sate the hungriest conniseur. Interestingly we are introduced to the "Council of Seven" the ruling body that orchestrates the defence against the shadow and maintains the mystic barriers that confine them. What I found enjoyable about this book was the more indepth character study of the key protagonists. And we find out just why Carroll Mac Lir is accounted as the greatest of the heroes of Y'gora. I've been reading Paul Zimmer books for almost 16 years because they still carry a resonance that removes you from this mundane world, a sense of wonder that carries the reader to a continent perpetually at war and to a land far across the sea where heroes still walk and strive against evil.
