"The Ghosts of Littletown": The Dreamer Book 1
With a writing style that I can only compare to the great Lloyd Alexander (Of "The Prydain Chronicles" fame: ... Matthew G. McMillan takes us into a world where fantasy is real and our heroine has only her wits and her friends to survive. I truly enjoyed this book, and can't wait for the next installment. I guarantee that my daughter will enjoy it as much as I did.

A great book for all ages
This is one of the best books I have read in a while,
I def. reccomend this book to anyone who likes fantasy. This book is good for all ages. I can't wait till the other 2 books come out.

A "Page Turner" if I have ever seen one!
Matthew McMillan is a truly gifted young writer. In The Dreamer, he creates a fantastical world, filled with amazing imagery at every turn. Placed in this truly wonderful setting is a plot that leaves nothing to be desired. Adventure, emotion, and wonderful dialogue abound, as well as thought-provoking ideas about life and reality. A must-have for any fantasy lover, and good for those young, old, and everywhere in between!

a super pop-up book!
I was really impressed with this line of pop up books!!! This book has bright cutely drawn bugs, and the pop-ups require no tabs to pull -- just open the page and the critters pop up! And I do have to say, the durability is about the best I've seen around! These books aren't totally indistructable, but the are very sturdy. This was the first pop-up book we bought for our son (16 mos old). We had thought, "give our son, a pop up book? you've got to be kidding". You're talking the the parent of a boy whose motto is, "If it's not coming, I just must not be pulling hard enough!" He just doesn't understand some things aren't meant to be pulled apart. But these books have survived very well. I still supervise him with them, the ones that did get ripped...just needed a little tape, and the pop-up still works.

Beautiful Pop-Ups
This is a great pop-up. The pictures are fantastic and my 3 yr old loves how the pop-ups move.

My daughter's favorite of the Snappy series
We own many books in the Snappy line of pop-up books. This one is my daughter's favorite (followed closely by the Dinosaur book). It's one of the only books where I have to say that I will read it "Just one more time". I think that insects, spiders and worms hold a special appeal for the very young.

It is well-loved, but does not have rips and tears like our lift-the-flap or pull-tab books. So far I haven't had to repair this book at all. The Snappy books are the only pop-up books we own that actually look "gently used".

The bugs are drawn in such a way that they are identifiable, even by a small child. The pop-up actions differ from page to page, making the illustrations seem fresh.

What I like best about this line of books is that the pop-up figures "work" without the use of pull tabs. Just opening the page causes the pop-up figures to rise from the page. This makes these books a little bit more durable than our pop-up books by other publishers.

a fun look at life backstage
this is a great book for anyone interested in any aspect of the theatre. It is an intimate look at the process, how actors live and work.

A Fantastic Read
If Jeffrey Denmans Broadway career goes into a tailspin (which I highly doubt) he could definetely get a job as an author. This book to say the least is impossible to put down. I read it in one sitting. Not only is it a brilliant look into the minds of Denman, Mel Brooks, Susan Stroman, and others, but it is a indispensable look at professional theatre and the toils and work that go into 3 hours of an amazing theatrical experience.

Outstanding...
What a wonderful glimpse inside the world of a working actor! I couldn't put this book down. I needed to know what was going to happen next. (I read it in one sitting - something I rarely do.) If you are curoius about what it takes to be in a Broadway show - this is the book for you.

Live in the Jungle
This is one of the best novels I have ever read. The story and descriptions give you the full sensations of the experience of the journey to the land without evil. From inside the head of the young shaman Ava-Tape, you see, hear, and smell tribal South America. You share his confusions about the ways of the missionaries, a people who would "crucify the son of their god."

I went through a wide range of emotions reading this book. From the joy of the dance and the thrill of young love to the sadness and horror of survival in a changing world, I was involved in the lives of the Guarani in this story. I felt like I was part of the family in the jungle. Excellent!

What a wonderful book!
It's such a pleasure to read a book in which the author has invested not only his talent but his heart. You come to really care for the world Pallamary has created, and all the people who live in it. I could see everything as if I were there instead of reading a book. Awesome.

great book!
Here is a novel woven with facts that every person who believes they should go to remote peoples and change their ancient spritual traditions should read first. "Land Without Evil" gently transports the reader into a paradigm of the native healers/shaman. A way of life that more and more people are now longing to learn and experience for themselves. A story such as this pulls us to respect and honor what little is left of this way of life, when humans were open to more than the material world.

A MUST!
I BOUGHT THIS BOOK BECAUSE I HAVE NEVER HAD A DOG BEFORE AND RECENTLY PURCHASED A ROTTIE. THIS BOOK IS SO HELPFUL. THERE ARE ALOT OF THINGS I DID NOT KNOW BUT THIS BOOK EXPLAINS ALOT ABOUT THE BREED. THE ONE THING I LIKED ABOUT THE BOOK IS IT ALL ABOUT ONE BREED AND NOT ABOUT THE DOG FAMILY.

Rottweilers and a Respect for the Breed!
I never realized prior to now the sheer importance of proper care and training of a Rottweiler until reading this book. This book should be required reading for anyone considering raising a Rottweiler or who currently owns one. I actually felt myself doubting whether I can provide the necessary attention and fortitude that this breed requires. I have always loved this breed and the book precisely specifies why it should be loved and why the task of raising one should not be taken lightly. Every consideration for the Rottweiler is mentioned in this book, from purchasing to care and nutrition, to behavior and training. I thoroughly recommend this book for anyone considering purchasing a Rottweiler or if you currently own one.

Great foundation!!
I was given a full-blooded bitch and did not really know alot about Rottweillers except for the preconceived notions of their viciousness. With smaller kids at home I was a little worried. But after reading this book and discovcering what a wonderful breed these dogs are, I am no longer worried and our puppy is doing awesome and I am learning alot every day. The book has great information about the Rottweiller breed and what to expect as well as great advice and techniques for training. Nicely written.

Stover makes Star Wars his Own
Want to save the franchise? Give it over to Matthew Woodring Stover, who takes a character heretofore only distinguished by the fact that Sam Jackson portrays him, and brings him to gritty, determined life, as a Jedi forced to confront all his assumptions as he enters his own Heart of Darkness.

Mace Windu, Jedi Master, returns to the planet of his birth to unconver the connection between his old apprentice and some massacres during a bloody (is there any other kind?) civil war. He finds that nothing, including himself, is as it seems. Well enough plot...

Stover creates a haunting, wholly believable view of what it means to be a Jedi in a world gradually devolving towards empire. His characters are vivid, filled with humanity and humor, and a maturity that makes this so much more than just a 'Star Wars' book.

Stover does a brilliant job of showing us both the steel that makes Windu one of the most powerful Jedi Masters, as well as the humanity which in the end, will be the temporary downfall of the Jedi and the Old Republic.

And it's hellishly entertaining. An unbelievable ride.

Blew me away
I actually didn't expect much of this book, but bought it anyway to have something to read. Boy, was I surprised. The book has all the usual action, but what makes it so good is that it has Jedi actually losing fights, getting injured, and best of all going deep within to question their ethics and way of life. There are a number of memorable quotes that I actually marked in the book to refer to afterward. Do yourself a favor and read this one. It will give you insight into the Jedi mind and ironic and painful views into the dark directions of the Star Wars universe to come.

The emphasis is on WAR in this one...
Shatterpoint may be the first Star Wars book that actually is written for someone older then fourteen.

This is another great Matthew Stover novel. Finally a Star Wars book that is gritty and dark; that faces the multiple aspects that make up the human psyche. Shatterpoint not only investigates the dark side of the force, but it investigates the dark side of human nature.

As in all of Stover's novels, there is no hard line between good and evil, an important lesson especially in times of war (like now) when it's easy to slip into an 'us and them' mentality.

Stover has obviously taken a page (or several) from Heart of Darkness. Mace Windu travels deep into a forest like none on this earth. As he travels deeper and deeper in an attempt to 'save' his one time Padawan, Windu is forced to investigate all of his values. Values that had seemed so hard and fast, but turn out to be useless in a world outside the Jedi Temple. Shades of gray abound and often it is difficult if not impossible to decide who is right and who is wrong.

If you are interested in a Star Wars book that goes beyond black and white, droids and wookies; a novel that is about the moral puzzles that each of us are forced to confront and solve every day, read Shatterpoint. You won't be dissappointed.

John Riley's Daughter
A great read about family life in the south; mystery, love, adventure, abandonment; a typical southern family. I am a southerner. Altho written for young adults all ages will enjoy Kezi Matthews word pictures that bring Memphis to living color.

Wonderful debut novel!
John Riley's Daughter is one of those edgy, suspenseful novels that keep you reading once you start. The Southern atmosphere is right on the mark, and the characters get up and walk off the page. I loved it from the beginning, and have already read it again!

Thorough overview
This book is not and does not try to be a shop manual. What it is, is a well-done primer on the theory behind the various systems in a motorcycle. The chapter on engines was fascinating to me. It explains, in rough historical/chronological order, the development of various engine designs, and how each was a reponse to weaknesses in previous designs and how each one introduced it own problems (while at the same time older designs were tweaked in various ways to minimize problems). The design variations include number of cyllinders, number of crankshafts, orientation of cyllinders with respect to each other, orientation of the crankshaft with respect to the motorcycle, ratio of bore diameter to stroke length, various arrangements of valve trains, etc. Two stroke engines are also covered. Illustrations are extensive, but tend to be pulled from other books or from manufacturers manuals, so sometimes include unnecessary detail, especially in the carburation chapter (which was very complex and a little over my head). Some chapters (e.g., exhaust systems) were not as detailed as the engine chapter and were slightly disappointing.

I followed this book up with Keith Cameron's Sportbike Performance Hankbook, which explains some systems in more detail. Cameron's book is ostensibly a book for souping up your motorcycle, but in the end managed to convince me that I want to keep my bike stock unless I don't plan to use it on the street: the manufacturers generally know what they are doing.

One caveat about Motorcycle Basics Manual: the book was authored in England and uses U.K. terminology. A glossary at the end gives U.S. equivalents, but a few things are left out.

Do read the reviews before buying
In the first review of this book are the words: "Don't expect this book to allow you to fix your bike."

This is absolutely true: this book is for people with little or no mechanic knowledge -- it's a great primer, but is NOT any use as a workshop reference.

If you already know something about bikes, this book will teach you little new (although it was nice to finally learn what a desmodromic valve was :)

C'mon girls, it's time to get down and dirty!

I'm a young(ish) woman who is absolutely new to the world of motorcycles. I bought this book from Amazon after reading through the posted reviews, and am pleased to say that it was an excellent purchase.

I really don't have anything to compare this book to, but I can say that it has been a wonderful introduction to the nuts and bolts of motorcycles. I never really understood what constituted an engine before picking up this book, but now I can talk intelligently on many mechanical matters with my grease-monkey mates. It's also a great reference when you're struck by a killer question about the intricacies of gear shifting, or whatever.

The book's only drawback, from my point of view, is that the text is rather dense, which makes it slightly daunting to sit down with. All in all though, my thanks and congratulations go out to the author.
