The author told me about a kitty cat club. The story explained the rules in running a cat sitters club.
In the kitty cat club Karen wants to be the vice -president. She thinks she should because she came up with the idea for the club. Amanda has a cat named Priscilla and is Karens friend. Hannie is Karens best friend and she likes cats but never owned one. Then one day she decided to get a cat and she named it Pat.
Karens, Hannie, and Amanda now have a kitty cat club. They have meetings on Saturday afternoons. They bring their cats to Karen's house and discuss if anyone got a phone call from someone that wanted a cat sitter.
This story was interesting because there were lots of surprising parts in the story. I thought the kitty cat club would get a lot of customers but it didn't work out that way.
This story was well written because it was easy to understand. It was a fun topic and I recommend this book to those who like animals and who enjoy being part of a club. I think other kids would enjoy reading this book because it kept my attention and interest.

Jacob, fortunately, has many homicidal friends. In this fourth series book, Jacob and some fellow parents are attempting to convince the principal of their local elementary school to establish a gifted and talented program. The principal ends up dead, and Jacob realizes he must solve the crime. He is the individual most thoroughly acquainted with this dead principal's society.
Mr. Witten achieves an ideal tone in this light-hearted mystery. I enjoyed the way he handled his various suspects, especially the single-mother initially arrested for the crime. Mr. Witten has spent some time around public education, and he knows the school environment well. He skewers the education bureaucracy with expertise, and his repeated comments about America's obsession with standardized tests are perfectly accurate. Every teacher I know who has read THE KILLING BEE agrees with those views. The various teacher-types and parent-types were fun to watch, as was the odd school board member who had more than his share of hidden secrets.
All in all, I believe THE KILLING BEE is Matt Witten's finest book yet. His plot is first-rate, and his recurring characters are enjoyable as Jacob juggles crime solving with family responsibilities involving a wife and two children. This book could not have been a more enjoyable read.
This is what Jacob Burns comes to believe after he and a group of parents attempt to protest the principal's refusal to create a gifted and talented class for their bored children. Upon arriving at the principal's office Jacob finds the principal with his head bashed in by a spelling bee trophy and his wife's friend Laura standing over him.
Not entirely convinced of Laura's innocence but willing to investigate, Jacob and his wife discover that more than one parent and teacher had motives to hate the principal. Risking the wrath of a police chief who hates him, overprotective parents, and a concussion or two, Jacob pursues an investigation to help his wife's friend.
Witten continues his enjoyable Jacob Burns series that features a father who has to balance his investigation with his sons' playtimes. The pace of the mystery moves quickly, and the wit and humor of the story make this an entertaining read. Pick up this mystery whether or not you have kids, as it will not fail to interest and entertain you.

The list of contributors, editors, and consultants on the project is a veritable Who's Who of biblical and theological scholarship, representing all major traditions and schools of thought liberal and conservative. Leander Keck, of the Yale Divinity School, is the primary editor of the series.
The volumes were published individually, and can be purchased individually, which is a good thing, given that they are a bit expensive. But for any serious biblical scholar, preacher, student, or enthusiast, they are invaluable.
--Volume I--
The first volume of this twelve-volume set naturally has the book of Genesis. However, before getting into the text itself, this volume provides a generous collection of essays and articles. In the General Introduction to the series, editor Leander Keck wrote, 'The Bible has its own way of commending itself to those whose careful reading opens understanding. The NIB will have fulfilled its purpose when it helps that happen.'
This first volume is divided into several major sections: (I) the General Introduction to the Series, (II) How We Got Our Bible, (III) How the Bible is Read, Interpreted, and Used, (IV) The Background of the Old Testament Texts, and (V) Genesis, Exodus, and Leviticus.
In the second section, 'How We Got Our Bible', scholars Daniel Harrington SJ and Keith Crim provide essays on the formation of the canon, and on modern English versions of the Bible. These deal with historical issues as well as translation and transmission issues; there are controversial elements here, and the writers provide a fair appraisal of differing ideas.
In the third section, 'How the Bible is Read, Interpreted, and Used', there are thirteen articles that deal with such diverse issues as why the Bible has authority, how the bible is interpreted in Jewish tradition and in Christian tradition, how the Bible is used in preaching, and a series of essays looking at issue of interpretation from specific backgrounds, such as African-American, Native American, Hispanic, and Women's viewpoints.
The fourth section deals specifically with the Old Testament/Hebrew Scriptures. These articles look at issues of early Jewish religion, Israelite history and culture, the ancient Near East as a whole, and textual issues and variants.
These sections taken as a whole provide a magnificent background to the study of the Bible, making this volume, just for this series of articles, a must-have for any biblical scholar or student. The names of Blenkinsopp, Sanderson, Buttrick, Gonzalez, and Massey should be well known to any serious student of the Bible, and one finds them here as well.
The sections dealing with the first three books of the Bible - Genesis, Exodus, and Leviticus - illustrate well the method and content of the rest of the series. Each text is dealt with primarily by one author, who provides introductory materials, commentary and reflections. Terence Fretheim, professor of Old Testament at Luther Seminary, assumes the task of Genesis. Walter Brueggemann of Columbia Theological Seminary, takes Exodus. Walter Kaiser, Jr., of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, has the task of Leviticus. Each of these scholars brings a strong background of Biblical scholarship, consisting of a host of books on related topics. Their analyses are insightful and useful for individual and group study, preaching, reflection and inspiration.
High praise goes to the general editorial staff for working with such strong authors/scholars, that their work fits together well as part of this set while retaining their individual characteristics (much like the writers of the Bible itself!).

You can trust the New Interpreter's Bible series. All of the scholars who contributed are the best in their field. In addition, the layout (which includes two complete translations - the NIV and the NRSV) is conducive to both scholarly and spiritual study of the texts.
Each text is broken down into discret units (i.e. the Tower of Babel) followed by general commentary on the passage, verse by vers analysis of key issues, and then an overview of study questions. The commentators address issues of authorship, historical setting, translation, theological history, and personal application. In addition, they graciously point to excellent sources for further reading.
Speaking as a pastor, it is my strong opinion that every English-speaking Christian who is serious about Bible study should own the complete set.

Matthew has a good ability to cook these dishes, and an equally good ability to "teach" the reader how to do the same.
The recipes are really all over the place, drawing upon influences of all Mediterrean countries. Some dishes for instance, are really more common to Middle-Eastern countries, but all flow wonderfully together in this work.
A truly enjoyable, as well as informative, book.
