A Creation Myth Without Guilt or Sorrow
This re-telling of the mythical events of human creation resonates with great love and support of the human condition. It is a simple but profoundly moving story of how our human spritual journey began. I read this to my grandchildren so that they might not be isolated in the view of failure and rejection as the story is commonly told. This presentation, with its exhuberantly colored drawings and unique explanations of the paths we must all travel, encourages and inspires the reader to understand mistakes and the resulting growth while under the care and company of a loving God.

A Wonderful Book
I agree with the previous review and I wanted to add that this is a beautiful book, the art work is bold and colorful and the message is loving. I bought this book last year and was saving it to give to someone this Christmas. As I was starting to wrap it, I read the book to my children and I remembered how much I liked it. I am ordering a couple more for other friends!

a loving rendition of the creation story
This story retells the creation story without the judgemental overtones of "human sin" which most of us grew up with. It is a loving account of God's creation of us and all of our frailties, explaining how all of our lifes experiences, be they good or bad, are part of our growth in faith. An absolute must read for families who seek to give their children a view of a loving and forgiving God.

A highlighter's dream
Mathews deals with the subject of spiritual warfare from a front liner's viewpoint. He spent significant time on the mission field and learned tremendous spiritual lessons as he participated as a soldier in Christ's army. He shares these insights in short chapters which should be read more than once. Each lesson is relevant for today even though written in years past. Get ready to use your highlighter as you get new understanding on the believer's battle.

Very helpful intro to the reality of spiritual warfare
I read this book while I was serving as a missionary in Asia; my experiences paralleled those of the author and his insights helped me a great deal

Meditations on spiritual warfare and the power of Christ.
Mathews was an officer in the Indian Army during WW II, which accounts for his liberal use of a military vocabulary in these brief and excellent studies. As someone born for battle, Mathews is obsessed (in a good sense) with the absolute and unquestioned victory of Jesus Christ. His insights, therefore, should boost the spirits of even the most down-trodden Christian. The titles of a few of the meditations on spiritual warfare and the power of Christ reveal his clear convictions: "The Soldier of the Cross" "The Soldier's Best Friend" "Our Wrestling" "Rendering the enemy Powerless" "Lions' - Den Loyalty" "Discipline Accepted . . . Mission Accomplished." It's hard to imagine how these brisk, to-the-point, yet warm devotional thoughts could fail to stir up the reader.

A Great Book by a Great Author
I bought this book after having worked with the Arthurian Tarot for a while. I was intrigued at the links between Arthurian myth & celtic myth that the deck pointed at, so I bought this book to explore this idea.

I have since read lots of other books on the subject by varying authors, but still find this book a fascinating read. It is by no means an in depth exploration of the culture, but a consideration of the prime structures, and the way they realte to our modern world, including some exercises to bring them into our own lives.

It is in this book that I first encountered the Ogham, which eventually led me to adopt it as a divination technique. It is also through this book that a whole world of spirituality opened up to me.

The book covers an understanding of the view of the world, the Gods & Goddesses that inhabited it, the relation of the King to the land (which gives great insight into the nature of King Arthur, and also our relation to our land), the druids & their area of influence, the Otherworld & its inhabitants, the nature of heroes (again giving insight into our own attitudes), the turning of the year (which as a pagan is of prime importance to me), and finally the place of Celtci magic in the world of today.

This book can be seen as a springboard into an understanding of the Celtic world, and I feel it is one of the best introductory texts on the subject of Celtic tradition.

Well researched basics
If you are new to Celtic studies and wary of the plethora if misinformation on the subject as presented by many Pagan authors then this is a must for your library. The book is short and to the point, making it an excellent introduction and quick reference.

Excellent source of celtic and earth tradition and knowledge
This is the supreme introductory collection of ancient celtic knowledge and stories. I read many books along this subject line, but this one stands out as one of the best. Since it is divided into many short entries, it never bores you like many texts containing those obscure names and places from the past, but instead makes you want to read on to the next tale. This is one of the few books you can pick up and open to any page to begin reading, and still be satisfied. Strongly recommended for anyone interested in celtic ancestry, druidry, religion, nature, wicca, or religion in general.

If you like Egyptian, Persian, Traditional English, Asian, Ethiopian, Italian,Chinese, etc. you'll love this small efficently refreshing book. The "Temptuous Truffles", and the "Chocolate and fruit Filled Sambusas" along with the "Vegetarian Sambusas" have to be my children and my favorite recipes in this ingenous cookbook. The cute illustrations of Tyco-the changito (monkey)making his famous "Chocolate Covered Bananas" is truly my husbands favorite recipe. He says even an old goat like him can learn to cook. Gorgeous
Absolutely gorgeous. Stunning illustrations. Magical ... haunting ... I cannot say enough.

Masterful Illustrations
This hardbound book is absolutely beautiful, consisting of wonderful illustrations based upon the gospels of Matthew and Luke (KJV).

The illustrator Gennady Spirin, is masterful, brilliant, and elegantly captures the essence of the birth of Jesus Christ.

The construction of the book itself, 33 pages in length, is designed for adults and mature children and is most definitely not a plaything for toddlers.

Purchase this book and establish a new and wonderful Christmas family tradition.

Christmas Books
I love Christmas books for children and when I discovered this one, I couldn't believe it. It is a definite heirloom and one to be shared with the entire family. This book was not totally set for the younger age group but for everyone. It isn't entirely encompassed with baby words and illustrations like others I've seen. The pictures are also quite beautiful.

The Church That Never Sleeps the Amazing Story That Will Change Your View Of Church Forever

A "Light" on Some of the Deadliest Streets of Los Angeles.
"The Church That Never Sleeps" is a testimony of struggle to accomplish a God given vision that affects countless lives and souls. The impact of meeting both physical and spiritual needs affecting not only those who are served, but those who serve as well.

While the story gives an excellent account of the "Dream Center", the real story is God's desire of the change in people through Christ Jesus reflected in those in the book. From the God inspired vision of Pastor Tommy Barnett to the thriving and impactful church it has become under Pastor Matthew Barnett's leadership, the equally compelling part of this account is the change in Pastor Matthew Barnett himself. Pastor Matthew goes from a young man from the Phoenix area, to a seasoned Pastor who meets every heart wrenching challenge imaginable in the inner city streets of L.A.

Within you will find story after story of God's restoration and effectiveness through those willing to make a difference, the summary of the Gospel manifested in a dark and cynical world. Without question this book will challenge your comfort in a church "routine" and effectiveness for the Kingdom of God, not the things many of us waste time debating.

For those like myself who have actually served at the "Dream Center", it details the story of the L.A. International Church; from a small mission to a powerful, live-risking outreach that it is today. What this place has become from people who volunteer their very lives for the self less purpose of reaching others, is in itself inspiring.

You will not be the same when you allow yourself to be a part of what is recounted in this book. A book that through God's spirit challenges the reader to consider what really is important in this short life. Simply an excellent book!

Passionate, Loving, and Inspiring
In, The Church That Never Sleeps, Matthew Barnett takes the reader on his journey of planting and growing the LA International Church. You sit with him in his lonely office as he contemplates ways to reinspire his small congregation. You walk past him on your way down the street the day he moved his desk in front of the church building in order to converse with those walking by. You get excited along with him as the church begins to grow and reach out to the surrounding community. You scratch your head with amazement as he considers purchasing a 400,000 square foot hospital building that has been vacant for 9 years. You participate with several of the 180 ministries of the church. Finally, you rejoice. You rejoice because of the tremendous work God has done and is continuing every day at the LA International Church...serving, loving, and pointing people to Jesus...an incredible journey!

A must for the soul winners
Pastor Matthew wrote a touching and eye opening book about the struggles of starting a church in the inner city. It was great reading and the humily of Pastor Matthew showed through on every page. The LA International Church and the Dream Center Story will expand your own dreams.

GREAT BOOK, I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN...
This book is extrodinary!!!!! I loved it. It took me 2 nights to read this book and on the first night I didn't put it down untill I was caught reading it at Midnight. I would definently recommend this book to others. Especially if you love mysterys, and stuff to do with camera's. Now, don't get me wrong the whole thing isn't about camera's, but you do learn a lot about camera's, since they find a lot of the clues in the pictures (okay, maybe it IS mostly about camera's, but not in a boring way). This book even got me interested in taking pictures.
This book is about a 13 year old girl named Claudia, who is a member of the BSC (baby-sitters club). She has to go to summer school, but her parents said that if she does well in math, she can take an extra fun subject. Claudia decides to take photagraphy class. She loves it soo much that her father makes her, her own darkroom in her and her sister's bathroom. Mary Anne is missing Dawn (her step-sister) and so are all the BSC member's and the kids,(she is in California for a while). So, they decide to make a book with photographs of Stonybrook, Conneticut (where they live) and then send it to Dawn, (hoping to make her miss StonyBrook and come back sooner). They make plans and one day set of with small groups all over StonyBrook snapping pictures. Claudia is fasinated by the bank and takes a whole roll and a half of just the bank. To be funny Mary-Ann takes pictures of Claudia taking pictures of the bank. Later on during a BSC meeting Claudia and the other members find out that the StonyBrook bank has been robbed of hundreds of thousands of dollars. Knowing that she was at the bank and taking pictures Claudia developes her film, but finds nothing. But, even later on she finds out that the robbery took place on the same day at almost the same time she was taking those pictures. You will have to read the rest to find out if she catches the robber or if she fails.

This book was great I loved it.
Claudia And The Clue In The Photograph is a great book, it is about Claudia and she is taking pictures of the bank just because she likes the way it looks, then she finds out that the bank was being robbed the very same day she was taking pictures so she tries to find out who dit it. you will be pretty surprised when you found out who did it.

Good and mysterious!
Claudia and the Clue in the Photograph is a good book. Claudia is taking photography lessons so she's become obsessed with taking pictures. She's taking pictures of the bank around the same time the bank was robbed. Claudia thinks her pictures contain some clues. They don't look like they do and the police sure don't think so, but Claudia won't give up til all the money is back in the bank!

It made me smile, made me angery, and made me think.
I am a history lover, and my opinion is, that when portraing a historical event or time, the two things that are most important, are respect, and accurasie. All Cladua and her friends wanted to do, is create a play accuratly and respectfuly portraning the First Thanksgiving. I would have loved to have seen, or been a part of somthing like the production they put on. I thought it sounded grate. That's why I was so suppriesed and angered bythe parent's reaction to the play. How could they say THAT was unAmerican? JUst becase they where not willing to accsept the truth about an event in America's past, doesn't meen there is anything unAmerican about portraying things as close to what they realy where as possible! On the contrary, I would have said there version of the story was MORE Patriotic then most, becase it showed the Pilgrems for what they realy where: human beings, people, just like you and I. I'm glad that Cladua and her friends stood up for themselves, and didn't let the insdent ruien there holiday. I have alredy given away to much of the story as it is, so I will refrain from saying more. I will close with this final word, though: Try this book. You will appriceate and enjoy this read, for more than one reason.Even if you didn't read BSC's before, or if you stoped reading them, (like I did) you should try this one. Thnk you, Ann M. Marten, for giving me reniewed fath in your books!

Claudia discovers the true story of Thanksgiving.
This is a very interesting book because for some people it is a real eye opener. It tells the truth about women's rights in those days and alot of extra info on the pilgram life that many people didn't know. For some reason, the parents belived this was wrong. Perhaps they got so caught up in turney and stuffing, they forgot the real thankgiving meaning. Being thankful.

Good
Claudia and the First Thanksgiving is a better book that what is sounds like. In it Claudia and her Short Takes Class are putting on a modern twist of the First Thanksgiving. They address many views and the parents get really mad. They refuse to let the kids put on the play. So Claudia, Abby, Stacey and the rest of her class have to find a way to get their play back. Also at the end of the book a really special vistor shows up! This is a good bookj and worth the money to buy it. P.S. This book brings back Betsy Sobak, remember from #19 Claudia and the bad joke???

This Cockatiel Book Stands Out!
I decided to buy this book so I could have a cockatiel book of my own and to read something new, and I am glad I did! This book has many unique photos of cockatiels that I haven't seen in other books. Such as a couple of close up shots of a cockatiel in midflight, a cockatiel hanging upside down on a perch, and two pictures of flocks of cockatiels in Australia. Then there are also beautiful pencil drawings throughout the book also. The reading was fresh and interesting too, with facts I haven't found in other books, for example, why cockatiels yawn a lot, the sensory capabilities of cockatiels, what their life is like in the wild (I have been waiting for a book to mention this!) and how to make a play tree for your cockatiel(s). I think this little book has a lot to offer and I highly recommend it to cockatiel fans!

A must read book for 1st time tiel owners!!!
I purchased this book along with my two baby cockatiels, I must say it was filled with information that was helpful. For those thinking or already own tiels, this book is a must read.

Excellent Resource
The tips and strategies for caring for cockatiels found in this book are great. I know that any cockatiel I own will be happier and healthier now that I've read it. It gave me tips on everything from how to build a bird oasis in your living room to what to feed your bird to keep it healthy.
