Inspirational Message
I have had the wonderful experience of hearing Matthew Kelly in person and I have found his wisdom to be inspiring and just make sense. His presentation is very straight forward with humor mixed in. His words make you want to be the person you are meant to be. He is also very humble and admits he has the same problems we all have. A great book especially for teens and young adults.

Matthew Kelly - An Inspiring Role Model
The title may not reveal it, but this book of Matthew Kelly's might make a good graduation gift idea. Especially for a high school student who lacks a little self confidence or remains unsure about their future plans. The Rhythm Of Life has a way of focusing the reader's mind on the things that really matter in life. In the end it will motivate anyone to strive for personal greatness. I found the book to be very insightful and easy to relate to. This is one that is worth reading, discussing and passing on to others.

Change your life
This book changed the way I looked at life. It is very hard to find anything that can impact you as much. Very ahead of his time, yet renewing long lost wisdom, Matthew encourages the reader with very real challenges to improve their life in every aspect. A must for someone searching for renewal, or for a person just wanting a little more out of life.

Best room redecoration book EVER!!!
This book inspired me to redecorate my room and now it looks fabulous! 15 teen girls get their bedrooms redone (lucky) by genius Mark Montano and they all end up looking GREAT. Lots of color, lots of fun, lots of pink. Well worth the money to buy it.

Super Suite is full of great ideas!
I bought this book just a few months ago and I loved it! Super Suite has a lot of themes you can choose from. If you like an asian theme, a safari theme, a 'southwest roundup' theme or even a 50's theme for your room, it's all here.

The crafts and ideas in this book are not that expensive and can be done no matter what your budget is! One of the most creative and innovative parts of this book is when Mark made a lamp, desk and a memo board using things you can find around the house.

This book can be for girls of all ages, hobbies, styles and personalities. It's ideal for girls who want to turn their plain rooms into super suites that express a lot about themselves.

Cool Ideas!
This is a really awsome book! There are tons of ideas on decorating a room for girls ages 12 - 18. Surprisingly, it's about the only book out there like it. I haven't found any other teen decorating books half as good as this one. If you like ethnic and foreign decorating themes, this is definately a great book for you. There are tons of Asian, African, and especially Indian themed rooms. I would completely recommend theis book!

a sweet little fun book that is an excellent buy f
i am the mom of 2 teens and i picked up this book for myself at the children's school book fair!!! I am semi vegetarian...and i am trying to watch my diet so this book came in handy without boring me ...it is dog earred already!!! the recipes are kind of 'buried' in the paragraphs which is a little bit frustrating...but you can flip thru the index to find a favorite...it does not have photographs but it does have illustrations in green and black...many of the facts are grouped into easy to find boxes...so this is a easy read...i recommend the book because you will not go broke by running out buying this item or that because many of us have these staple in our kitchen most of the time...you can also improvise on the recipes according to your tastes...who says adults cannot find gems of a book in the children's book section?

My favourite cookbook ever! 5 stars
This book is really really good. The recipes are delicious and it's easy to understand. It also has some useful nutrition information and some other tips. There was a breakfast chapter that I especielly liked cause I think it can be so hard to fin something that's quick to make and that is nutritionus in the morning. But here you can find some good recipes. I recommend this to any vegetarian or vegan. The recipes are vegan but can be made with dairy products and eggs if you like. This is the best vegetarian cookbook I've ever read. Buy it you won't be sorry =)

Recipes that appeal to teens.
Getting teenagers to eat healthy meals isn't always easy and vegetarian teens are no exception. The Teen's Vegetarian Cookbook by Judy Krizmanic provides a good selection of nutritious recipes that will appeal to vegetarian teenagers - as well as those whose teenage years are behind them.
Besides offering a variety of recipes in sections typically found in most vegetarian recipe books, Krizmanic also includes useful chapters on "Easy Pasta Dishes" and "College Cuisine." "The How-To-Get-Your-Nutrients Substitution Chart" and calcium and iron sources listed are informative and helpful as is a "Glossary of Basic Cooking Terms and Unusual Foods." An icon pointing out those recipes that are easy to make is also useful.

Recommended for both Protesant and Orthodox readers!
Although I've read a handful of books more than once, "Thirsting for God in a Land of Shallow Wells" is the first book that finished and started right over again!

I am a former Evangelical who had raised many questions about the Protestant church, but continued to hang on for lack of an alternative. It wasn't until I heard about the Eastern Orthodox Church at a lecture given by Frank Schaeffer in 1997, that I began investigating this pearl of great price.

Gallatin's book appeals to me in that he asked many of the same questions I did, but with his philosophical background, he approached them in greater depth. One friend of mine says that he attacks the rationalism of Protestantism using a rationalistic argument. This may be true, but some of us coming out of this background need to have head questions answered before we can commit our heart. (Once you become Orthodox, you realize this is all backwards.)

In the final chapter of this book, Gallatin writes, "I pray that Protestant readers have been challenged to come to grips with the inescapable inconsistencies of their theological heritage. I hope many of their misconceptions regarding the ancient Orthodox Faith have been dispelled. Most of all, I hope I have helped them to see Christianity in the light of its historical truth and its sacramental spirit."

He continues in the next paragraph with, "When it comes to Orthodox readers, my prayer is that this book has nurtured within them a deeper appreciation of their faith. Perhaps they have come to understand it better. Most of all, I hope that they will be able to use the perspectives presented here to help them as they share the truth of their faith in a predominantly Protestant society."

I would agree that he's on target on both counts. I'd recommend this title to both Protestant inquirers and Orthodox "evangelists."

From a Protestant perspective to the Orthodox Way...
As a recent convert to Orthodox Christianity from Protestantism, I'm always looking for things pertaining to the Orthodox Church as it is in America, and without the overtones of being "Russian Orthodox, Greek Orthodox, etc." This book does that.

The first part of the book is that of the author's personal journey to Orthodoxy. After decades of trying to find the "True Way" among various Protestant denominations, he still felt that something was *missing* in the Protestant view of the Church and of the world. He also goes on to elaborate just what it was that seemed to be missing or contradictory in Protestant doctrine, both specifically, and in general.

The second part of the book is almost a handbook as to what the Orthodox church may look like to those coming from a Protestant viewpoint. Things such as veneration of icons, formal prayers, and church tradition are discussed here in a way for those who probably have had very little experience with these things.

I, myself, am tickled to read about others' journeys to (and within) Orthodoxy, particularly in America. I just sent this book in a package to my mom. I don't know if she will read it, but if she does, I hope that she will at least come away knowing that me becoming Orthodox has everything to do with the church, and very little to do with me being fascinated with Russia or whatnot.

Simple, But not Simplisitic
Matthew Gallatin has done a fine job in explaining his reasons for his conversion to the Orthodox Church. While the book may strike some as too simple, the content of the book however is right on target. He does a fine job showing the implausibility of the protestant teaching of sola scriptura and addresses other issues as well. Recommended especially for protestant inquirers into Orthodoxy.

I can't tell you how profound this book really is
I looked at the back cover of the book before I picked it up and read the content inside, and I did in fact judge a book by its cover. I saw Matthew flexing for the camera, and thought, "Wow, this guy is cheesy".

Well, about 1 Chapter into the book, I was sold. This book lays out the TRUTH about everything food related and how it applies to the lives we live. He speaks on how things really are in the slaughterhouse. I found that chapter very disturbing, but it was good to know the truth. It made me forever look at cuts of meat in a different light.

As profound and insightful as this book was, with its hard hitting data and info, I still laughed aloud several times throughout the book. He's got a good sense of humor.

All in all, top notch read for any vegetarian, or anyone wishing to improve their quality of life. His recovery from an incurable disease just puts the medical world to shame, and I love to see that. Instead of robbing people, let's help people.

KNOW HIM WELL...
I shouldn't expect anything less of Matthew. I discovered the public access show he hosted, Accent On Wellness, back in 1993 as I was waiting for an early morning ride to a football game one Saturday morning. The topic was the AIDS/HIV Deception. Was hooked from day one. Over the past 9 years have watched him whenever I can. Was bummed when he left the show. The man knows health and he doesn't try to convince you of anything. He always tells you to seek and find for yourself. I love this man for his philosophy of honesty. I'm not an idol worshipper, just a hip-hop kid who appreciates REAL dudes. My mom just found out that she has what Western Medicine calls colon cancer. I've come here to replace my copy of A Way Out as the first thing I did was give her Matt's book and told her "don't let them cut a thing until you read this book, check out a few alternative health info packets and websites, and make up your own mind!" I pray she trust me. I know the deal, but you can only bring the loved one to the Truth, you can't make them believe and soak it up. The pharmeceutical-industrial complex has done a good job of brainwashing the world. Maybe with LIFE Warriors like Matt out there we'll all be free one day. Keep up the excellent work Matt.

I am so grateful!
I am so grateful to Matthew Grace for all he has contributed to my life and my future...and I haven't even met him! After reading his book, I went to his website ... which is listed on the copyright page of his book - and I was thrilled to see that he has tapes from his lecture series available. He has made such a contribution to my health. Thank you for that.

The Wilds

Author: Thomas K. Matthews

Average review score:

You go Thomas, this is great!
This book dares step past the drudgery of the new age doldrum that has become new thriller fiction. I'm tired of serial killers and psychics and insightful, overly clever cops. The Wilds is true crime drama, complete with flawed characters with real problems and the genuine searching need for the answer to the un-answerable. Forget the meaning of life, Charles Patterson just wants to live. What a hook and what a way to spend a few days. I'd never heard of Matthews, but his name came up at a writer's
workshop as someone to look at. I did, and what a story teller. Best give yourself the time to enjoy this one, this ain't no airport book. Matthews is self published and his work has a mild rough edge to it that a professional editor could polish off in a heart beat. I was shocked, amused and actually caught off guard at the end. The Mammoth, California backdrop works great, but not in the cliche, hidden secret trap that most writers utilize as the overly beaten 'not what it appears' plot. Pine Ridge is exactly what it appears, it is the crime itself that turns out to be the twist. Patterson goes to the mountain to demand why the locals can't solve the murder of his family, then bull heads himself into the investigation, only to come face to face with exactly what he was searching for; the evil of his family's murderer. Throw in the FBI working in an unofficial capacity, the local towspeople meddling with the case and the juristictional conflict between local Sheriff and big bad bureau agents. When this breaks open, your heart skips a beat and your back will hurt by the time you finish. But wait, there is more going on in the concrete jungle as Patterson's jilted mistress wants whats revenge. It gets interesting and is as real as the headlines. This one is a winner and deserves more attention than I'm sure it is getting. As a struggling fiction author myself, I have heaps of respect for an author who can push through the wall of rejection and complete, then publish his work with this kind of tenacity. You are an inspiration to the lost masses of hopefuls, Thomas. Keep it up. And you, read this book!

Oh yeah and hoo-ha!
Drop that old book and take a good hard look at a new comer to this game. Thomas Matthews will rock your world, set you on fire and make your head spin with this story. I've read tons of thrillers and these days most are just too "out there" for me. What I wanted was a good, old fashioned muder and mayhem action book with some great writing and believable characters. THE WILDS fills the order on all counts. People die, good guys get hurt and bad guys almost win. It all takes place in the Sierra Nevada mountains and feels as real as it comes. What a great yarn, and what a great bad guy. Law's Train Museum in Biship CA is a real place and I have seen the two bodied lamb. It's an oddity beyond imagination and the perfect metaphor. You'll understand when you read this. You will never forget THE WOLF. This book grabs you by the throat and makes you think this writer is seriously disturbed...until the end. It all makes sense and is all very possible. I'll never go camping again! Read it and weep with joy, THE WILDS is the answer to all your thriller prayers. What's next Tom? Something brilliant I hope.

What a ride!
This book rocks! Fast and smart, The Wilds wastes no time and no words. Exciting and well written, the characters are alive and this book doesn't stop until the very last page! Read The Wilds and find out what it's like to lose your family, get no satisfaction and then run for your life! This book goes for the throat and doesn't let go. Read it and know the thrill! WOW!

Alphabet Lane
Learning the alphabet can be fun and this book could be used to encourage children to want to learn the alphabet, if read by the parents. The house on the cover is situated on "Alphabet Lane." Fifty-two kids live in one house!

On the first page we find Annie sitting under an "A" eating an apple. Children can lift the flaps, pull the tabs or be amused with all the action packed into this story. Even I laughed at the funny faces on the zebras and thought the "ken was kind to kittens" was sweet.

By pulling on the tabs, kids can vaporize vegetables, turn zebra stripes yellow, open a cage and let tigers out to play, juggle jelly beans and lots of fun things. Next to each picture, you will find words describing the action.

Rita read to rabbits
Jane jumped over jack-o-lanterns.

This book will amuse for quite some time! Colorful, durable, educational, cute and interactive. Your kids will love it!

Annie ate apples
My daughter received this book for her first birthday and although she was too young then, now at 18 months old, she loves it! In fact she threatens a tantrum if any other book is suggested. She loves trying all the moving parts and opening the flaps, although care has to be taken that she does not rip it. This book is fantastic...original, funny, and can be taken at many levels so will suit children of many ages. It really does make a lovely present for a child.

I went back a bought more for gifts!
I loved this book. My 7 yr old couldn't put it down. Everytime he looked at it he saw something else. The colors were so beautilful. I know she had fun creating this book.

All right, Abby!
This book makes Abby Stevenson my favorite baby-sitter. She finds a breast cancer brochure and thinks her Gram Elsie has it. Then she takes action and goes to the library and looks up breast cancer and tries to see if she can do anything for her grandmother. Way to go, Abby!

Great book, fun to read
I picked this book for a book report because I like the Babysitter Club books. This book was a lot of fun to read. Even my Dad liked it. We took turns reading chapters out loud.

ABBY ROCKS!
Abby was always my favorite member of the BSC. She's bright, funny, assertive and has a heart of gold. I love her! She is by far and away the most appealing member of the series!

In this installment, Abby learns that her grandmother might have breast cancer. At a family gathering, Abby tries to reunite folks who have not seen each other in ages and acts as peacemaker. She tries to heal familial rifts. At the end of the story, she and her grandmother confront the tragic issue of breast cancer and it is to the author's credit that she does not slap on a formulaic happy ending. The grandmother's concerns about whether or not she has breast cancer remain unanswered, which is a pleasant departure from the standard. Abby and her grandmother connect and Abby learns about how she, too, can take measures to protect herself from this disease.

HOORAY FOR ABBY!

A fresh voice on a familiar theme
I just can't resist checking out fresh young voices whose books deal with New York City sleaze and whose main characters are named Nick.

Nick is a young bartender in a working class bar in the west 40's. He is a boxer who is training for his big fight. Naturally, the local mob figures want him to throw the fight. His best friend, Jimmy, is a loser who patronizes massage and porn parlors, drinks too much, and always is trying schemes that don't work. The author uses simple words but yet gets into the heart and soul of the characters. I felt their reality as they moved about in their world, breathed the dust on the West Side Highway, smelled the beer in the bar, felt the mugginess of the summer heat wave. More characterization than story, but I still couldn't stop reading. A good first novel and an author to watch. Recommended.

A fine, gut tale of authentic character and moral struggle
Matt Bloom has created not only a tale of moral struggle, but has evoked disturbingly real, multi-faceted characters that draw one in not by
contrived heroism or allegory, but by unflinching attention to gut realism. He does not sweeten his characters or scenarios to make them artificially sympathetic, but displays a finely honed sensitivity and courage to face and evoke the emptiness and search for authenticity of his range of characters and experience. This is all accomplished with the skill and depth possessed only by a true writer, one who yearns to and succeeds at creating new and genuine realities.

I not only had the pleasure of watching Matt immerse himself in disparate lifestyles in order to feed his writing over the years, but I boxed more rounds with him than anyone else may boast (he looked for me during a reading when asked about his experience, but didn't see me waving). It is an honor to have seen him turn his cultivated, unpretentious talent, his hours of training and taking (and slipping - he's really good in the ring) punches, and his uncompromised immersion into life, and turn them into literature that is both memorably fine and a pleasure to experience. Highly recommended.

full of heart
This is a strong, compelling first novel written by an author who brings compassion and heart to each of his characters. I recommend it highly.

One of the Best Books on Golf
I have played at golf since high school but never took the time to learn to play well. After years of duffing around the course I decided to learn to properly play the game. I began taking lessons from a highly recommended Houston PGA professional instructor and I began reading golf instruction books. I've been working on my golf, now, for 1 1/2 years. Progress is slow but substantial.

This book, BOBBY JONES ON GOLF, is one of the best instructional books available.

Over the last 1 1/2 years I've read twenty or more golf instructional books. I have found that many of the newer books, written by famous current PGA players, really aren't that good.

This book is overwhelming in the amount of information it contains. Bobby Jones, clearly, simply, explains the body movements required to produce a correct, repeatable golf swing. He does this in such a way that the reader gains insight and understanding into the golf swing no other instructional book offers.

The book also clearly discusses swing tempo and rhythm, essential to a good golf swing.

The section of putting is rather brief but gives insight and clarity to the "art" of putting.

Although this is not the only instructional book I would recommend, I consider it the best single instruction book on golf. The amount of information, the clarity of instruction and the depth of insight contained in this book are unsurpassed by any other golf instruction book available. Additionally, Bobby Jones' writing style possesses an exceptional level of refinement, intelligence and clarity.

The Holy Grail of Golf Books
One of my biggest regrets in life is that I never got to see Bobby Jones play tournament golf. He retired from the game early, too early for a man of his immense talent; and a few years before I traveled across the country to see tournament play.

I can only go by his unmatched amateur record and old grainy 16-millimeter film stock to grasp the greatness of Bobby Jones. Jones had a great swing...Very controlled, impeccable balance/ coordination, unbelievable tempo and rhythm. Pure ballstriking. Pure golf.

In his book, "Bobby Jones on Golf", Jones really gets to the spirit of the game. This is a great book on the idiosyncrasies, nuances, technicalities, and philosophies of the game of golf. If you read carefully and take his advice seriously, I believe you will become a better player. I can't guarantee this, but there is no reason why a beginner can't shoot in the 80's within the first year of playing. If you do the reading and practice the fundamentals; after 3 years of playing on a regular basis (at least 3 to 4 times a week) you should be shooting in the 70's.

This book is a very easy and compelling read. I think you will really enjoy Jone's prose. It's Jone's prose that makes this an enjoyable reading experience. It's by no means flowery or pretentious, but understated and distinguished. Much like reading a Jane Austen novel; it feels like Jones is actually speaking directly to you. And this is the best way to learn about something very complicated; to have the narrator / author personalize his language by using parables, analogies, and personal stories to make it easier for the reader to understand the complicated material.

Another important note: There are hardly any illustrations and no photographs in this book. There doesn't need to be either because Jones does such a great job in his explantions that his words paint pictures. I was glad that he didn't have to resort to any photos; it would have distracted from his impeccable teachings.

I highly recommend this book whether you're a beginner, intermediate, or advanced player. Not only will you learn from a golfing master, but you will have a new appreciation for the greatest game on earth. Along with this book, I also recommend the reading of Ben Hogan's, "Five Lessons: The Modern Fundamentals of Golf", Mickey Wright's "Swing the Wright Way", and Harvey Penick's, "The Little Red Book".

Bobby Jones on Golf
"A golf swing is graceful, not because it is made so, but because it is correct." Only Bobby Jones offers nearly poetic writing while tackling the ever so complex act of striking a golf ball, and playing the game.

Mr. Jones' book is without a doubt the best about playing the game of golf. Ben Hogan's Modern Fundamentals is a close second. The difference? Mr. Jones discusses the game. Mr. Hogan discusses the swing.

Beginners and high-handicappers should chuck all their golf magazines and golf-tip books. These only bring about tension and poor results. Bobby Jones on Golf will raise any interested reader's game to a level that goes beyond how many knuckels should be visible or the position of the pinky toe; all this while using the english language as well as he used his mashie.

A must read if you want to be a competitive golfer.
