Karen's Sleepover (Baby-Sitters Little Sister, 9)

even though i'm 15...
even thoughi'm fifteen, I LOVED THIS BOOK!
Karen's dad said she could have a sleepover. But, when Nancy Dawes tattles on her for doodling in her school math book, Karen gets mad. Nancy thinks she didn't get an invitation, (because it got lost in the mail.) but when she gets it, Karen un-invites her and invites the new girl named Pamela Harding to her sleepover instead. But Pamela turns out to ba a snot. She thinks The Wizard Of Oz is a baby movie, (It Isn't.) And she says pizza gives her bad breath. Karen feels so bad, she Re-invites Nancy. It's a great book...

Way to go!
This book was way too cool! I enjoyed every moment of it.I think it was great and I am planning to have a sleepover soon,it sounds like fun. When karen has decided to have a sleepover, she fights with her best friend nancy and she does not invite nancy to her sleepover.Instead Pamela comes and now karen needs nancy's help to stop Pamela from ruining all the fun.I think this book was lovely.

Karen's Sleepover
The story takes place at Karen's house. Nancy, Pamela and Karen are the main characters. Karen is a nice girl. She is in the second grade. She has lots of friends. She is funny, but, sometimes she can be serious. Karen and Nancy get into a fight, so when Karen has her sleepover, she does not invite Nancy. Karen wants Nancy's help with solving problems that come up at the sleepover with Pamela. I think this book is fun to read because it was about girls who are always having fun adventures together. Karen has nice friends that look up to her. There was nothing I did not like about the book. Karen is the most interesting character. I learned a lot of things from reading this book. One thing I learned is instead of ignoring my friends when I get mad, I should talk it over. I also learned that nobody likes mean and spoiled people. Lastly, I learned that sleepovers are lots of fun. I would like to read other books by this author like Karen's Cartwheel, Karen's Pumpkin Patch and Karen's Secret.

Time well spent
I feel like I have been at a feast of experience and ideas. Traveling with Matt Stevenson through his book "Letters of Transit," has been an enjoyable treat. Glimpses of Russia, Fiji, Africa, Ireland and islands in the Pacific were described with poetic language, clear pictures of the economy and political aspects and the excitement of venturing into different lands. A description of Mexico City as seen from a mountain top castle is vivid and imaginative:"Cars raced around the narrow streets and the imperial boulevards like so many rats searching the maze. And in the distance I saw rows of houses, like the surf appropriating a dune, washing up the sides of the hills.

As an economist he discusses the Russian system with insight and understanding. One feels like he is talking to a friend. He is good company.

My favorite parts of the book are those in which he visits the battlegrounds where his father fought. He familiarizes us with the problems of war and steeps us in nostalgia. I know his father and so the quotes from him are particularly interesting, admirable and poignant in these times. He quotes other military comrades of his father, "There is the way I dreamed I fought, and the way I wish I had fought...the way I think I fought and that is the story I told here."

Reading this book has been a stimulant to my intellect, a treat to my senses and a good time with a newly found companion.

Thoughts by a traveler who has been around the world
Letters Of Transit: Essays On Travel, History, Politics, And Family Life Abroad by banker and essayist Matthew Stevenson is a sizeable and impressive compendium of original thoughts by a traveler who has been around the world, including Switzerland, Serbia, Northern Ireland, South Africa, and the Middle East. Stevenson writes with a clear and articulate view of the tangled morass of human politics, cultures, and events he has observed and considered. From a human look at the battle of Guadalcanal and its fallout to the current, not-so-happy state of the Russian economy to the crossroads of destiny at South Korea, Letters Of Transit is a compelling, informed and informative view of people and events around the globe, and a breathtaking, thoughtful look at what the future might have in store.

An insightful book ¿ especially for Afghanistan
Matthew Stevenson writes about many things in this hefty volume - and it is especially interesting to read about his visits to Afghansitan, Pakistan, and other places.

A spooky story!
This book was great! It is about a diary Mallory finds in Stacey's attic. The diary was a girl called Sophie's in the 1800's. She told of how her mother had died at the birth of her baby brother. Her rich grandfather then hated her father and blamed him for stealing a painting he had of his daughter. The diary didn't say anything about who was the culprit, only that Sophie was sure it wasn't her father. Mallory then found the old man's confession about covering up the portrait and then went on to find the atchual painting. An exelent read.

Ghost story/ Babysitters Club
This is a great book! My mother just bought it for me and I'm really caught up in it. It's sort of like a Babysitters club book(which it is, of course) and a ghost story. I don't usually read ghost stories (ocasionally I read Goosebump books) but the the Babysitter's club and a ghost story goes really well together. The first chapter is a bit boring but all in all it's one of the better Babysitter's Club books.

One of the Best Books
I read this book when I was in 6th grade. I was so caught up on it that I read it in One Day. It's one of my favorite. I like all her book but this one was especially excellent.

The Story of MaryAnne Spier
I like this book a whole lot. My favortie part was the Mothers Day tea party because it was so sweet the way she couldn't decide to bring Mimi or her father. What I don't like is how they don't tell you how her mother died.
(that's something very small)
It was a great book. For those who liked this book, I recomend:
Mystery5 MaryAnne and the Secret in the Attic
Kristy's Portrait Collection
Abby's Portrait Collection
They're all great books! Thank you Ann Martin!

WELL WRITTEN
This was an interesting story. It helps you get to know her father more and see that he really cares about her. I thought that Mary Anne's grandmother was rude to keep putting him down to her and to criticize Mary Anne and make her upset. Mary Anne tells her off and runs out the door and hides in the cornfields. Then she comes back and says sorry. SORRY FOR WHAT? That part irritated me. It was her Grandma who needed to say sorry. It was her doing.

Excellent story of one tough girl who went through a lot
Very tender sweet, moving story on growing up, and mother loss. Mary Anne's search for a female figure in her life is touching, especially her attachment to Mimi. Her dad tries to fill in, but there's no one in a girl's life like a mother. I was also glad to meet Mary Anne's grandmother along with Mary Anne. I was so happy for Mary Anne and Verna, especially when Mary Anne found out about her mother, Alma. I like Verna and would like to see more of her in future BSC books. I could see Verna had been through a lot and was also working through her grief of losing a husband AND a daughter. It was really too bad that Richard and Verna hadn't grown up yet back when Mary Anne was a toddler and fought over her. It's great that now Richard and Verna are putting their feelings aside for Mary Anne's sake.

Great book for young horse crazy girls
When I was younger (when the book first came out) I couldn't read this enough times! All of Ann M Martin's books have been a joy to read. I have obviously outgrown the Little Sister series, but I've read some of her other books as well. At the time I read it, I just loved it. I'd reccomend for younger girls, 8 and under.

great book for little kids.
I was 10 when I read this. It is a great way to teach kids about the aspects of caring for a horse in a fun way. It also teaches the value of friendship. p.s I'm not really 12 I'm fourteen but I can't use the adult's form.

Very Good Book
I just like this book because Karen and her friends Hannie and Nancy go to Pony Camp. And her pony Bluebell is going to camp. The other campers tease she and her friends, their names are Casey and Mary Grace.

GREAT MYSTERY
This is definitely one of Ann M. Martin's best mysteries. Ireally like this book because it's so well written. A mansion has beenrobbed in Stoneybrook and the BSC is on the case. This book has aninteresting plot and a very surprising ending. END

A Very Surprising Mystery
I think this was a GREAT book! I don't particularly like mysteries, so I was very glad when this book came out. Kristy and the Cat Burglar kept me wondering who the culprit was until the very end! You should DEFINATLY read this book!

One of the best BSC mysteries
This is one of the top five! Kristy is walking home one day and hears glass breaking. What could it have been? Kristy(of course) has to investigate. She finds out that a buglary has taken place. Kristy and the BSC begin to investigate, and find out they are dealing with pros. Then the police arrest a VERY surprising person. To find out more read the book.

Bittersweet
I disagree with the reviewer who states that the Captain is interetsed only in the little boy; he is being sarcastic when repeatedly argues that he is *not* attracted to the mother. Indeed, his relationship began with the family *before* the child had been born. Yes, there are sexual undertones to his relationship with the boy, but Barrie seems to imbue much of his descriptions of beauty with some subtle and sometime not-so-subtle eroticism (the blue-skinned fairy women, for example). What the Captain wants most, it seems, is the family - the 'total package', but he still yearns for his 'lost love'.

Great book!
Though it is the story of a captain that befriends a boy, it is really James Barries way of describing his relationship with a young boy named George Llewelyn Davies and his mother Sophia Llewelyn Davies.

Worthwhile book, but quite strange to modern eyes
[A] previous reviewer states: "It is the story of a man who mentors a little boy and during that has a love interest with a woman."

There is no interest in the woman in the slightest! Indeed the author states explicitly at the beginning how tiresome it is to be persued by her. He loves the boy only. Amazing that this was a best-seller and world famous in its day - a wonderful book, but you can't help thinking that if published in 1999 it would be confined only to the mail-order book list of NAMBLA, as the old bachelor even baths and sleeps with the boy! It's available online..., as are Arthur Rackham's wonderful illustrations for the Peter Pan sections (it contains an inner story which is a very early version of Barrie's "Peter Pan".

Condensed version of Matthew Henry's commentary
This book has been condensed to fit six volumes into one handy book. The book is still pretty thick but surprisingly light for its size. Sometimes, when Matthew Henry expresses the same thought in two or more different ways, Mr. Church cuts down to a single sentence. However he has preserved the meaning, but does not necessarily expand on the thought. He also omits references to other Bible verses that might bear on a particular commentary to save space. Since the complete volumes are not as portable, or not as readable [the unabridged one volume version], this volume is a good compromise. It is like having a pastor handy to answer questions about Bible verses, in one lightweight volume. Note that the two column format is more readable, than the 3 column format of the unabridged one volume version, although the font is still pretty small.

A Necessary Read For Anyone Interested In The Bible
The information is solid and enlightening as a whole. There are some questionable interpretations, but very informative where the Pentateuch is concerned.

The best, most informative Bible commentary in my library
Matthew Henry has a remarkable ability in presenting a balanced, intelligent account of biblical stories. I wouldn't be without his insights to help me gain a better understanding. This is a great gift for earnest Sunday School students and active students of the Bible.

Required reading for any enterprise developer.
This book uses Visual Basic.NET and not C# for it's examples. If I were to list any one particular disappointment I had with this book, it would be that. However it's extremely easy to port VB.NET code to C# and vice versa, and VB.NET code is a little easier to read and understand.

With that out of the way this book completely rocks. It should be required reading for any enterprise application developer. The title is a bit deceptive in that you believe the book concentrates on NET Remoting and XML Web Services; it does concentrate more on those topics than any other, but only to the extent necessary - you never feel like he's repeating himself. Also included is a comprehensive examination of threads, messaging (Microsoft Message Queue Server), advanced remoting, deployment, logging, security - everything.

I'm a self taught developer and there are a lot of holes in my knowledge that I know exist. This book single handedly filled in more of those holes than any other book I've read in recent memory. Gestalt after gestalt followed as I consumed this book over the course of a weekend.

Someone once called me and asked if I had seriously posted the review of the Access Developer's Handbook. (My name is, ah, unique.) It was a glowing review like this one, and he doubted that a real person had posted it. I'm a real person, and this is really my opinion of this book. If you can afford it, buy it. You will not regret it.

Great VB.NET Book
I'm a VB programmer turned C++/Java/C# developer, currently doing everything, of sorts. In one of my jobs a C++ guy casually asked "How can you do .NET patterns without knowing C++ ?". And how the java world is so condescending about vb.net (or anything microsoft for that matter). It's just a job and we are supposed to do whatever is assigned to us, yes?

Matthew MacDonald shows clearly how to write enterprise class applications with VB.NET. Happy to read a lot about threading, COM+ explanations, messaging, remoting and other advanced concepts along with good case studies, in VB.NET. MacDonald is becoming as good as Dan Appleman [another author who knows a lot but still "condescending" enough to continue writing great vb.net books and materials :) ]. The book is real strong in both concepts and code.

Finally it's what we deliver at work (that matters) and this book will immensely help an intermediate vb.net developer by explaining how to do it and have a satisfied weekend..!.

THE Book on Architecture with .NET
I'm only halfway through this one, and I decided I just HAD to write a review. In a world that has 200-page books written by five authors (see my IIS6 Handbook review), a comprehensive 700 page book that speaks with a single voice is a rare find. I've found a few other good single-author books (like Balena's book on VB), but this is far and away the best book for learning enterprise architecture, best design practices & patterns, and advanced techniques like multithreading.

Here's just one example: I've lost track of how many times I've read about how to use COM+ services in .NET without an explanation of why I should (or shouldn't)!! This book not only explains brilliantly how to use COM+, it explains when you should and shouldn't use it, and the limitations you'll encounter. We also get similar treatment of threading issues (for 2 whole chapters), caching/optimization, security (in only one chapter, but it's a solid overview). There's also a chapter just on design that talks in practical terms about facades, factories and other patterns. I've read some of this stuff in other books, but all I got was theory and contrived examples. In this book I see how to apply these patterns in the real world. That alone would have won me over.

Basically, this book is FULL of great material for anyone who knows the code but want to move up. It also includes three full case studies, which I haven't seen anywhere else. I'm not a big fan of case studies, but these do show the author's multi-layered approach in detail. Overall, great!
