where's the map
I loved this book. The pictures and reviews definitely got me psyched for my upcoming trip to Rome. And, when in Rome, I had the best caffe and granita I could imagine.

But...the book refers to a map, that I couldn't find in my copy. A map would've been very helpful.

Hankering for La Dolce Vita?
Reading Cafe Life Rome is almost as good as being there. The beautiful photos and the wonderful stories about each of these family-run Cafes and their owners transport you to the Eternal City with its sweet way of life.
An essential part of any trip to Rome is to visit the cafes, relax, enjoy the superb coffee, watch the Romani and soak up their world. This book helps you to find the best cafes in any area of the Centro Storico and should you care to, find one to make your own.

Ready for La Dolce Vita? I recommend this book to help you find it

Make's you want to pack your bags
This is more than a wonderfully descriptive book on cafes and bars. The layout of the book sets an ambiance that makes you want to pack your bags to fly to Rome immediately. Reading this book, I traveled to Rome and loved it.

The Conscience of the Campus: Case Studies in Moral Reasoning Among Today's College Students

Lack of morals
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book about morals on college campus's. I was shocked to learn that so many students were able to validate their lack of morals and considered cheating to be the the norm in college classrooms.I cannot figure out how this acceptance of lying and cheating came to be...I just hope it passes. I think this is a book all high school seniors should read and discuss. Hopefully, they will choose to not become part of the "new moral conscience."

would you trust these kids to sell you a used car?
The Davey's have produced a very thought provoking book that will stimulate a good deal of discussion, and not just in college classrooms. The moral debates among college students which they chronicle in this book offer an insight into a generation that has rejected the radical moral relativism of the sixties generation while nonetheless rejecting the moral package deal of the Christian right. This is an exciting and readable book that deserves widespread attention.

College professors in the social sciences and the humanities should take a serious look at this unique work. Lower division courses could certainly benefit from the fascinating moral dilemmas presented by the "scenarios" which have been designed to motivate the most recalcitrant student into discussions of their values. Certainly the moral quandaries examined here will produce heated disagreements among today's college students.

Ethics 101 Revisited
With its very engaging format, this book at first appears to be merely a diverting sampling of college-student answers to some of the moral and ethical riddles that beset our legal system. It soon becomes clear it is very much more. As the authors dissect the sometimes surprisingly insightful responses these young people offer to complex legal/moral isues, they skillfully guide them through the labyrinthe of contradictions and occasional absurdities that plague our system of justice. The result is both thought-provoking and entertaining and moreover, reveals a decided thirst for moral/ethical discusions in our classroom. As the debate on bio-ethics and technological advances heats up, this is no doubt the first of many such books.

Dispelling Stereostypes
Joseph Marshall III's the Dance House: Stories from Rosebud relates knowledgeable insight from the Sicangu Lakota Sioux's point of view, using everyday incidents as well as historical events. A Lakota Sioux historian who was raised on the Rosebud reservation, the author's simple yet harmonious language creates a memorable collection of eight short stories and five essays that present a truthful representation of Native Americans. Using the underlying theme that heritage is important to one's identity. Marshall is adamant in erasing the white man's barbaric, ignorant image of the Indian.

In the title story, after the tribe's dance house was ordered burned by the United States Government which seized the Black Hills land where the house stood, Jacob Little Thunder and others, outwitting the white "boss farmer" and defying the Dawes Act, build a house of happiness where the people of Grass Valley could come together to remember "the old days and traditional way."

Gus Pretty Crow, through his unwavering honesty, brought the demise of the haughty sheriff in "1965 Continental." One rainy night a stranger appears at Gus' door requesting mechanical help. When Gus recommends that the man wait until the next morning and call the local wrecker "that runs, sometimes," the stranger propositions him: "Sell me your [1950] truck and I'll give you that 1965 Lincoln Continental." After Gus explains that an Indian owning a new luxury vehicle would create problems for him, the stranger promises that just a phone call to him would fix any problem that would occur. Reluctantly Gus agrees to the transaction and soon after the harassment by the local sheriff begins.

Jon Marichale educates his grandfather during a reminiscent outing about the petrifaction process of a stone turtle the grandfather had discovered years before.

The Dance House is necessary reading for anyone who is interested in the truth about Native American culture, or simply enjoys gifted storytelling.

INCREDIBLE AUTHOR!!
READ ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING BY THIS MAN YOU CAN GET YOUR HANDS ON....HIS ESSAYS AND STORIES IN THIS COLLECTION ARE WELL WRITTEN AND EXCEPTIONALLY PROFOUND...THE ANSWERS TO A HARMONIOUS AND BALANCED LIFE LIE IN THESE PAGES....COME FIND THEM.

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Lakota Sioux historian and novelist Marshall proves himself a triple threat with these powerful essays and short stories. As the subtitle suggests, the nine pieces collected here all deal with life on the author's home reservation of Rosebud, SD, and it is a credit to Marshall's ability as a storyteller that the fictional stories are nearly indistinguishable from the factual essays. Subject to changes brought in by Euro-American culture that surrounds it, Marshall's Rosebud is nevertheless a timeless place where the Sioux insist on maintaining their identity. Readers will be grateful to Marshall for building a dance house of the mind, one that draws on autobiography, nature writing, legend and the day-to-day adventures and misadventures of his own family and neighbors.

Dillinger: A Short and Violent Life
An excellent biography on John Dillinger. The authors did their homework well! The book features the outlaw's life from beginning to end and it would be an wonderful edition to any Dillinger reader's book collection.

Dillinger : A Short and Violent Life
Dillinger : A Short and Violent Life by Robert Cromie and the late Joseph Pinkston is genuinely the most accurate book ever written on the life of John Dillinger. This book gives a detailed account of Dillinger's early years with his family leading up to his bank robbing criminal career, amazing escapes and his execution by Federal Agents on July 22, 1934 in a dark Chicago alley. I give this book with five stars because of it's accuracy. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in learning the true facts surrounding Dillinger's life as the most wanted man in America.

Must Reading
This is the best of all Dillinger biographies. Forget the speculative fiction of Jay Robert Nash. From birth to violent death, this is the most detailed and accurate account of John Dillinger's life and crimes. The research for this book was done by the late, great Joe Pinkston, a wonderful man and scholar who had researched Dillinger and collected artifacts on America's only real Public Enemy Number One since his own childhood in the '30's, eventually turning his lifelong fascination into the John Dillinger Historical Museum formerly located at Nashville, Indiana. Only slightly marred by the lack of source notes or index, this book is still a handy reference work, the proper beginning for any student of Dillinger and a priceless addition to any crime library.

American Love Story
I was simply blown away by this book. A street wise Kid from Philly making it on his own and then winds up in one of the nation's tragic wars only to meet up with a country girl from North Carolina and they both somehow seem to make it all work out and raise a family and grow old together and remained in love for many many years. This book truly runs the gammets of emotions from Pride to anger to sadness. You can really see what an American Love Story this is. Whether it be children's book or A simple love story if it has a story to be written Joesph S Bonsall can surely write about it.

Enduring faith like none other
There's a song called "Whatever Happened To Old-Fashioned Love," that simply asks where the life-long commitment of a marriage has gone. All-too-easily, people who have one little problem simply give up. This story is for them.

This story is about two post-WW2 veterans who attempt to return to normal life after the war. Permanent scars, both physically and emotionally, never truely allow that to happen, but one thing gets them through these hard times. Love. A love like none other. Through trials that seem almost unbearable and too hard to overcome, G.I. Joe and Lillie persevered. They are true examples of the old saying, "all you need is love."

Joseph Bonsall's writing is superb, and this true story, while brand new, is old as time itself. No matter what came their way, they always had each other. That's all they needed.

This book is like a warm quilt!
When it is dark and stormy, nothing is more comforting than to be cocooned in a homemade quilt. A tapestry rich in tradition and assembled with love, a kaleidoscope of patterns and colors, it is an American art form. Wrapped in its warm embrace, its fabric surrounds us and soothes our spirits. By extension, the spirit of America is a tapestry woven by the stories of its people. Each person; each man, woman and child, has a chance to mold this nation. Some become distinguished men and women and make monumental contributions to government, the arts, and business. Others become scourges of society. Most will fall somewhere in between, neither famous nor infamous. But they build lives and legacies for themselves and for the generations that follow them. They are ordinary people who sometimes do extraordinary things. They face adversity and challenges and find a way to overcome them. Their faith in God is the cornerstone of their existence. They raise their children to be honest and to reach for the stars. They are far from perfect, but they do the best they can with what they have been given. And they love each other, no matter what. They are the threads that form the fabrics that produce the patterns of our national tapestry. GI Joe and Lillie are two of those threads. They represent, even in their imperfections, all that is good and right about our country; faith, honor, strength, values, and dreams. Their story, so eloquently chronicled, mirrors many of our own narratives. The details may be different, the patterns and colors may not be the same, but the fabric of their lives, the values that brought them through the rough times, are universal to most of us. And in today's times, when it is dark and stormy, and we need to feel protected, or even just encouraged, we need only wrap ourselves tightly in the legacy they helped create. Their "quilt" warms the heart, and yes, soothes the spirit, for it is rich in tradition and assembled with love. You will laugh and you will cry, but mostly you will be inspired and grateful for this story.

Simple and Beautiful
This book is a beautiful and simple way to read about Jesus' life. Great for people who find it hard to follow the Bible and also for those who need a fresh look at the life of Jesus.

All of the Girzone books I have read are wonderful. So refreshing and uplifting. Also, easy to read and understand.

I highly recommend this book.

The Gospels Come Alive!
Having read all of Fr. Girzone's other books, I thirst for each of his new offerings. This book did not disappoint me. His ability to inject warmth and a personal perspective transform the Gospels from a more historical context to making the reader feel as though they were part of a beautiful story.

Anyone who has felt a bit arm's length when reading Scripture will find that they are welcomed into God's story as part of it. Fr. Girzone's writings continue to help bring my God closer to me.....and for that I thank him.....eternally.

Lowell Rinker

Matt, Mark, Luke, John,& Joseph Girzone tell Jesus' Story
It is a wonderful read! The story of Jesus pooled together by Fr. Girzone and the Friends of Jesus, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. A smooth telling of the life of Jesus that allows one who is a "beginner" or "expert" of the Gospels to envision the life of Jesus through a flowing account.

Incredibly helpful
Six years ago, my priest used this book with a group of seniors at Gordon College to help us learn more about listening to God in the context of testing our call to ordained ministry. This book is simply incredible. God used it powerfully in my life!

Thoughtful, prayerful, wise, and sober
The issue of discernment, or attempting to understand God's will for us in our lives and the direction it should take, is one on which regrettably too little attention has been spent in the Church until recently. This book answers that dearth of material by presenting what proves to be both an emanently practical and highly instructive method and motive.

The method was developed in the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland with great assistance and input from members of the area Quaker community. The Society of Friends influence shows prominently, as the main focus of the process (and it is a process, as opposed to a goal in and of itself) is to discover and arrive at consensus regarding God's revealed will through reflective prayer rather than convince anyone of anything via cerebral justifications. For this group, the method became the first step in the ordination process, though they are quick to note that the method need not be limited to those seeking ordination, but rather can be used by anyone seeking a discernment of God's will for his or her life.

Listening Hearts is replete with quotations and an exhaustive bibliography. At the very least, it serves as a starting point for someone considering a time of discernment. The book is not discouraging of ordained vocations, but instead acknowledges that often discerners too quickly latch onto ordination as the only answer to a vocation in the Church. The method emphasizes prayer and heartfelt reflection as the main means of determining God's will, which is as it should be.

Those seeking a time of discernment should read this book for "the other side" of the discussion -- a viewpoint which urges caution, deliberatation, and openness to the multiplicity of God's purposes. It provides a strong balance, essential to any spiritual journey.

A must for anyone discerning God's will in their life.
The method used in creating this book is as moving and powerful as the material itself. The authors centered on prayer and meditation and worked with the Holy Spirit to create a book of sayings that ring true at every turn. But, the book is much more than a group of sayings. It lays out a path for discernment that begins with God, and leads through the self to the community. This path is clearly paved with the Holy Spirit and is ready for all who are willing to make themselves available to God's will.

Great help to see how we sabotage our own success at work
This book was a great help in seeing how early family dynamics can impact the way in which we perform (or don't perform) at work. Was very helpful in showing me how to change from pessimistic to optimistic thinking and behavior. I love the movies and really enjoyed the movie metaphors in the book. I think there is alot here for people looking to step up their career success.

Great insights into family dynamics and one's work success
This book really helped me to understand how my relationships with my parents carved out my patterns of work and relationships with co-workers. There were extremely helpful exercises to enable me to uncover and work on these past patterns.

well written and designed for the corporate employee
This book was well received by our employees at a consulting engineering office. Both professional and supporting staff found the book to be extremely helpful. Many of the situations described fit the individual employees concerns and behavior and the corrective techniques were of great help. Polytechnic,Inc.,

Great book, Simple but Effective
I usually don't read books twice, but this one I decided was well worth a more thorough second read.

Simply put, Nowinski's 6 questions are simple and yet fundamentally powerful questions that sets a framework for you to put your life onto it's proper path.

Equally effective are the 6 conflicting questions, which places Nowinski's original 6 questions in the right perspective.

His use of case studies are wonderfully informative and really drives home his point. You can tell each page is meticulously worded, and Nowinski's choice of words are right on.

Nowinski answers the question "Is that all there is?" and "So now what?" and does so by asking that we look inwards to who we are? why are you here? where do you belong? who do you love? who loves you? and how can you be true to yourself?

Questions that make you think, and as you create your answers, you re-create your life the way it was meant to be lived for you and by you.

He's right, these 6 questions can change your life.

A Book To Keep
Six Questions is a MUST READ for every one who wants to live a happy life. Dr. Nowinski's approach in finding one's life vision is very practical and effective.

The 6 questions are simple but most revealing if we care to take the time to answer them properly. The real life stories in the book clearly demonstrate how the process have helped some people in finding their truest life.

The 6 questions have certainly challenged me to revisit many of my current thinking. I would highly recommend the book to people searching for a meaningful life. It is also a book that we should revisit when things are not happening the way we expect them to be.

It is truely a book to have and to hold.

Theory of Quantum Change
I initially bought the book because I had to find out what the six questions were. I would like to comment that I found the book to be a beautiful reinforcement for strengthening the resolve of anyone who is already on the path toward a vision.
This book helps you discover the common thread on which to gather the beads that result in quantum change.

Great gift from the Diocese
When my fiancee and I decided to get married and went to talk to our parish priest, he presented us with this text. It has proven to be a wonderful planning aid for my fiancee and me. We have enjoyed reading all of the readings and deciding which ones will be used in our Mass. For those who want to plan a wedding that recognizes that Marriage is a Sacrament, and says this and remains Catholic through-and-through Champlin's text is an excellent source. We also purchased several other books, including "Perspectives On Marriage with Catholic Wedding Ceremony," and Chris Aridas' excellent "Your Catholic Wedding."

Good help
This book is a good help for couples preparing their wedding. It lists the texts you can choose from for the catholic ceremony. I recommend it!

Perfect Book for Creating Your Wedding Program
I recently got married, and we had a difficult time deciding on the elements of the mass, creating a participation program, selecting readings and music.

This book is exactly what any Catholic needs to plan the elements of the mass. It comes complete with a fill-in-the-blank guide to hand the priest. This guide allows you to select everything the priest will need to make your wedding, your wedding.

I wish I would have know about this book from the beginning. Good luck with your wedding.
