I Ching the Book of Changes
Published in Hardcover by Peter Smith Pub (1963)
Author: James Legge

Great Translation, Antiquated Format
This Dover edition of James Legge's translation of I Ching will definitely not be to the taste of every afficiondo of this ancient work. However, it is really informative and clear in ways that other, more famous or convenient editions, are not. The main difficulties involve a Legge's use of a system of transliteration no longer in use, (having been superceded at least twice in the past century), lack of page headings, an odd layout of footnotes (which begin at the end of each section of text being discussed, and the separation of all commentaries by ancient authors into appendices. If this sounds like a list of complaints, it is not. Most volumes of the I Ching put the various commentaries on each hexagram on the same page as the hexagram and oldest text, creating what is, in fact, a false impression of unity. Although the format is not to modern standards, this volume is very helpful to the understanding of the I Ching in particular, and the history of Chinese thought in general.

Where is the Bonhomme Richard?
The Bonhomme Richard sank in flames more than 200 years ago off Flamborough Head Yorkshire UK The wreck has never been found (not even by Clive Cussler) Ships often lie on the seabed many miles from where they were last sighted. The Thessaly sank in the 1880s off the Friesian Islands. The Royal Navy Admiralty Charts will tell you where this wreck lies and who located her. The Cap Palos was lost off Whitby Yorkshire in the 1920s. She lies at least 50 miles away. Cannons are located within 50 miles of Flamborough Head. Are they from the first ship of the US Navy

A Good Read
While parts of the book are slow moving it does convey the sophistication of Titokowaru from his military strategy to his letters to the British. It also provides a picture of life for early settlers in New Zealand.

A good read for New Zealanders who think that history only happens in the battlefields of Europe!

Fabulous!
I found I'm In An Emergency to be a well thought out, exhaustively researched piece of work which, for its voluminous amount of information, is a captivating read.

It is obvious the author spent a great deal of time researching his subject and his devotion to the topic is obvious.

This book will appeal to individuals with myriad interests: the military, aviation, Minnesota history and lore, and post World War II history.

I'm In An Emergency never succumbs to he pitfall of information overload. Peppered with photos and succinct accounts of incidents, this book is eminently readable.

Great book for people scared of computers
This book is great for the absolute beginners. It explains in very easy methods how to hook up, type, email etc. Even if you don't want to do it all it at least explains what it is and you wont feel so "dumb" if people talk about email and scanning because you will know what it means/does.

Surprising and Enjoyable
This excellant account of the race for governor in California offers unique insight into the tactics and motivations of the canidates and their supporters with a wry but rarely bitter pen. Written by Sinclair almost imediately after the conclusion of the race, this journal of sorts sheds first hand light on the California of 1934. A California that disturbingly resembles the America of today. The connection I made with the author's deepest values allows me to accept Upton Sinclair as worthy of my emulation. Read this.

A "must read" for defense attorneys and judges
A timely sampling of the issues facing judges, paralegals, attorneys and interpreters when the defendant (in a criminal case) or party (in a civl case) is not a U.S. citizen. Immigration law changes so quickly, however, that some sections (esp. sections on crimes) need updating already.

Good but not top-notch
This map will give you a good overview of the island. But there are better, more detailed maps available. Try the surt shops around Poipu and you'll find a wide variety of maps, some comical, some with enough quality to frame.

Maybe If I Loved You More

A Delight!
Dear Abby calls James Kavanaugh "the poet of the American people." I would have to agree with that statement as well. His poems were not limited to a specific genre, but encompassed all of life. The reader feels his pain, his compassion, his caring, his concern, his sadness, his anger, and his love. Kavanaugh embraced all of life's ups and downs and lets the reader share in his emotions. There are over 80 poems contained in this simple book, with some of them illustrated with black and white drawings, which are also by the author.

From his introduction; "So much of life is spent in an effort to be loved. We beg for it from infancy. We struggle to please everyone, parents, teachers, neighbors, anyone who seems important. We do it all our lives. Success becomes the measure of our worth. Even the simplest failure can mean that we are not really lovable. MAYBE IF I LOVE YOU MORE, Finally I would be loved!"

Wonderful book of one's passages though life, expressed eloquently and colorfully and most of all, deeply.
