My best kindergarten Bud!
The author and I started out together our first day at kindergarten! Years later after being separated I read the authors book and I became the audience of one who has led a life destined of child like adventure and male survival. The book pictures the spirit of a champion. The character challenges the readers imagination. I applaud the end results for the main character in this book! There is a lesson to be learned through her overcoming lifestyle for all generations. "For those who think this is a man's world" Read on.

This book is a good investment!
This book is very romantic and I like a good love story. This has a very good love story in it with the author and Jimi Hendrix! It kept my interest. I couldn't put it down!

This is not a book for prudes!
A powerful book...by a courageous author. Diana dares to "tell it like it was" and in doing so...brings the reader face-to-face with the awesome love of God.

The real life account of a heart yearning for love...and that heart's circuitous route to peace. If you are a "prude"...this book isn't for you! It reads like an Old Testament Story...with New Testament Grace. Thank you...Diana!

The Best Book Ever!!!!!!!!
Don't Fence Me In is a great book. In this review I will tell you why it is great. Don't fence me in is about a Dutch-American teenager in World war two. The teen is named Barry Spanjaard. He is the author of the book. Barry lives in Holland. It is a tough life there. Barry was born in America so that means he is an American citizen. Him and his family are Jewish. One night the German Police came and gave them ten minutes too pack there bags. They were taken to a concentration camp. They are brutaly starved and beaten. Then Barry and his family get a call that they were going to a "better camp". This camp that they were taken to was Bergen-Belsen. This camp was even worse. Barry is starved and beaten. He has been through alot. Before I read this book I did not know anything about World War two. This book mad me realize how brutal concentration camps were.
I would highly recommend this book.

One of the best books I've read
I came into possesion of this book when Mr. Spanjaard spoke at my middle school. His book had a profound impact on my life. The holocoust written from the point of view of a teenager is something I will never forget. When reading the book it didn't matter if the english wasn't perfect, you became so caught up in the story you feel almost like you are experienceing it yourself. This book personalized history for me, and is one of many reasons I am now a history major in college. I've read my copy so often its falling apart. I have to hold it together with tape and paperclips. A wonderfull book!!!!

Holocaust in Truth
I have not had the pleasure of hearing Mr.Spanjaard speak, but the book made me feel as if he were telling me the story himself. I have read many books on this subject, but none have given me so much to think about, as well as leave me feeling so many mixed emotions. I had to tell myself this was a story several times just to be able to finish it. The details helped make it real, and this man's courage to tell a story that many would rather forget is most admirable. For all those people who ignoratntly deny the holocaust need to give this book a looking into, and those who are interested in our history will gain so much from one young boys survival in the holocaust. Thank you whole heartedly to this author!

Truly Understandable Guide to Homeopathy
This book is an understandable introduction to veterinary homeopathy for the beginner. Dr. Hamilton explains the history and theory of homeopathy in such a way that virtually anyone can grasp the basic principles. However, this is not just an introductory text. It is also a great reference tool for the more experienced animal guardian.

Part One covers Homeopathic Principles, including an introduction, the nature of disease and the nature of cure. Very important tenets of this modality, and very different from allopathic medicine.

Part Two provides step-by-step guidance on treating animals with homeopathy. It also explains when NOT to treat your animal without the guidance of an experienced homeopathic practitioner. While Part Three discusses vaccinations and the role they play in the health and illness in our companion animals. Part Four is the Materia Medica, which describes the individual remedies.

Finally in the appendix there is a helpful glossary and lists of additional resources. Homeopathic Care is a valuable addition to any alternative animal care library.

The section on vaccination alone makes the book worthwhile!
Homeopathic Care for Cats and Dogs is a comprehensive overview of homeopathic treatment of acute conditions that affect cats and dogs. Much more detailed than other such titles on my shelf, this book addresses each aspect of homeopathy, from its philsophical underpinnings to how to administer a dose.

Homeopathic Care for Cats and Dogs is a must-have resource, if only for the section on vaccination, an issue that ought to concern all pet-owners, whether or not they have an interest in homeopathy. The study of vaccinations often leads to interest in alternative healing modalities, in which case, the buyer will have a great resource already to hand!

The Materia Medica provides a less-detailed overview of remedies than a does true MM, but this hardly limits the book's value as a homeopathic resource. Most readers interested in homeopathy no doubt already own one or MMs. No one book on homeopathy can address in-depth every aspect of this fascinating healing modality; Don Hamilton covers well those areas defined by the title of his book

Homeopathic Care for Cats and Dogs clearly delineates the divide between the opposing philosphies that drive conventional and homeopathic approaches to health.

I highly recommend this book.

The BEST Book on Veterinary Homeopathy
I have read just about every book on veterinary homeopathy and this one is the best! In fact, because of the excellent chapters on the nature of disease and vaccinations, I recommend this book even for dog and cat lovers who have no interest in homeopathy.
This book is an absolute must-read for anyone interested in treating their dog or cat with homeopathic remedies. Unfortunately too many people, being unaccustomed to a holistic concept of health, use homeopathic remedies in a decidedly allopathic manner; i.e., they choose a homeopathic remedy the way they would choose a drug, without taking into account the totality of the patient's symptoms and conditions. Dr. Hamilton tells you what you need to know to treat acute and minor health problems homeopathically (chronic illness needs to be treated by an experienced veterinary homeopath): how to take a case, choose a remedy, handle and administer remedies, select potency and repetitions, and recognize signs of a cure or partial cure as well as the signs of suppression or a noncurative aggravation (contrary to popular belief, not every aggravation signals a positive healing crisis). He also covers the very important subject of eliminating obstacles to a cure (e.g., low-quality processed foods, vaccinations, unnecessary stress).
Dr. Hamilton also includes a Materia Medica that, while brief, is very accurate. Those with a serious interest in homeopathy will probably want to invest in at least one comprehensive materia medica and repertory though.
Like the previous reviewer, I disagree with Dr. Hamilton's views on purebred dogs. IME, it's simply a myth that mixed breeds today are inherently healthier than purebred dogs. Our German Wirehaired Pointers are naturally reared and in excellent health!

Comfort Food For The Soul
Jill Brooke has written a compassionate book that will be a source of great comfort to all of those who read it. Jill deals with the subject of loss in a way that is sure to help make anyone feel better about their personal situation. One can never escape being touched by death during the course of one's life, but a book like this eases the pain and allows one to focus on the positive that is left behind when a loved one passes. I would highly recommend this book to everyone.

One of the very best books on the subject
I began reading books and articles on death and grief more than 20 years ago, and after a while, I found they all said the same thing, more or less. Then I read Don't Let Death Ruin Your Life. I was delighted to find a book that reflected what my experience working with grieving people has shown -- that while painful, our relationship with loved ones continues and grief provides the opportunity to learn about life and living with greater purpose. Jill Brooke provides a new framework for the stages/phases of grief and offers everyone hope. I recommend it highly, both to those who are grieving and to those who are working with grieving individuals. And as I think about it, I recommend it to anyone who is interested in living a better life.

The book I wish I'd written
...It was with great interest and relief that I read the book, Don't Let Death Ruin Your Life, by Jill Brooke. It's filled with insights, wisdom, and compassion. What I like most of all about it is the fact that it gives us permission to miss our loved ones--in a healthy way--for the rest of our lives if we want to. Brooke assures us that it's okay to 'keep our loved ones close by and honor their memory while integrating them into our lives that have now been changed by their physical absence.'

"Some of the ways that she shares how to do this is to notice how our loved ones live on in our beliefs and our feelings, and to tell stories about the positive ways they affected our lives. In doing so, we continue to have a meaningful, significant relationship with them while, at the same time, moving through our grief to a brighter place and reclaiming our happiness.

"This is an amazing book, and one that I'll be buying for others and sharing with people for a long time to come...

Well crafted stories
Susan O'Neill's stories help us better understand the experience of nurses in the Vietnam War, and, not so incidentally, of the men who populate her stories as minor characters. Readers should find this collection a pleasing fictional counterpoint to the valuable memoirs by women who served in Vietnam. O'Neill has structured the stories to take place in the three hospitals she herself served in, a suggestion that there is a rich autobiographical basis for the people and events here. These stories strike a nice balance between the pathos and humor of military service. To complement O'Neill's fiction I especially recommend In the Combat Zone, a wrenching collection edited by Kathryn Marshall, and two fuller autobiographical accounts of American women in the Viet Nam War: Home Before Mourning, by Linda Vandevanter, and A World of Hurt, by Mary Reynolds Powell. Readers interested in Vietnamese women's stories might start with Lady Borton's After Sorrow.

If you only buy one book of short stories, buy THIS:
There have been many combat and recovery stories about Vietnam, but no one before has written from a woman's perspective such profoundly disturbing and darkly humorous insights, with a tough and unsentimental grasp of the horrors, ironies and psychological pressures of a war that still haunts America.

O'Neill is the kind of writer that I look for constantly and seldom find. I was sorry when the book ended.

Subtle, Ironic, Literary and Profoundly Moving
This collection of fiction shows that Susan O'Neill is a talented writer first and foremost - and not just a woman veteran of Vietnam. O'Neill's stories capture the very essence, the distorted waking dream quality of the Vietnam War. The stories are like the discrete vignettes of a Hieronymous Bosch painting: in one corner a sadistic doctor is torturing a wounded North Vietnamese by giving him insufficient anaesthetic during surgery, in another corner a major's pet monkey is trashing an operating room, further on a Vietnamese ghost squats on an abandoned grave mound next to the mess hall, meanwhile Bob Hope strides the Xmas show stage swinging a golf club. O'Neill encapsulates the haunting horrible aesthetic of Vietnam with more deftness and subtlety than any writer so far. For this reason, the stories gain from repeat readings. O'Neill always treats this war, tragic because of its pointlessness, with seriousness and dignity. My favourite story from the collection was 'Prometheus Burned'. O'Neill's Prometheus is a former pre-med student who is educated enough to understand, not only the Prometheus pun, but also the fact that he is dying from third degree burns. Susan O'Neill's stories are for thoughtful grown-ups, not gung-ho flag wavers. At best, they will turn the latter into the former.

Lives up to the title!
I have both this book and the first one. I found them browsing in a book store, paid full cover price, and I'm not sorry. They are excellent!!! If you are on a low salt diet, you can use most of these recipes without modification. If not, you can simply salt or spice to taste if you desire more robust flavor (but I've only found this necessary once or twice). Two improvements I would recommend - the weekly menus should have page #s for recipes from the book, and the menu plans should take into account the food that you are already buying for the week. For example, I've had to buy some things that only come in 16oz packages for just one recipe that only required 1oz! So, the weekly menu plans should try to reuse similar ingredients, as much as possible while still providing variety. But, both of these issues can be worked around with just some simple pre-planning before you go shopping. My husband hasn't even noticed he's eating healthier - and this is someone who always picks the worst kinds of food to eat. My Dr. recommended I lose some weight. After buying these books, I brought them in and asked her opinion of them. She liked them so much, she made photocopies of the covers so she could recommend them to her other patients! Hope you enjoy it as much as I have!

Best cookbook I ever bought
I've had both of these cookbooks for several years now. They are pretty ragged because they've been used so much! It would not be an exaggeration to say that we have fixed over 50 recipes between the two books. Both my husband and I work, and we have two children. These cookbooks have made our lives so much easier. The recipes are easy to prepare, don't involve too many steps or ingredients, and use "normal" ingredients that are easy to keep on hand.

A few of our favorites: Chicken Stir-Fry Sandwich, Ricotta Pizza, Seafood Gumbo, Chicken Rainbow Salad, and Frozen Fruit salad (which we divide into four containers and eat for dessert every few nights.) We do occasionally tweek things to match our tastes, but I've found most of the recipes are very flavorful.

I love these cookbooks. I wish Mrs. Ponichtera would write a few more!

Anyone can cook well and healthily with this book...
Brenda J. Ponichtera is not only a registered dietitian, she knows how to cook in a way that's both flavorful and healthy. Taking the knowledge from her days as a dietitian, she has designed and tested 190 recipes for each volume of this book (Quick and Healthy Recipes and Ideas AND Quick and Healthy Volume II) which will taste great and keep the pounds off. Not only helpful for dieters, this book contains necessary nutrient exchanges and helpful information for diabetics.

These down-to-kitchen books can help anyone learn to cook in a healthy way. Sample dinners are included in both books and the second edition contains sample menus as well as pre-made grocery lists. Although page numbers are hard to find from the sample menus, a helpful index solves the confusion and lists recipes by principle ingredient. Each recipe includes a description and ingredient list and preparation time can estimated by scanning the instructions, but the stand out here is a table at the bottom which contains number of servings, calories, fat, and exchanges - a sure to help any dieter. Trying a sample menu leads to easy shopping (just put the list into an online grocery store, although check quantities before ordering), fairly quick preparation times, a limited number of ingredients, and tasty results (the Creamy Seafood Fetticini even won over my seafood reluctant friend). The sections on determining your ideal weight and calorie intake, as well as the nutrient analysis tables in the back are indispensable. With a minimum of creativity and time, anyone can cook well and healthily with this book, making sure it will have a place on my counter for years to come.

Great gift for babies
My oldest daughter received this book as a gift when she was about 2 and she loved it. I'm now reading it to her baby sister who can't get enough of it. The illustrations and the rhymes are delightful. This book makes a great gift.

So fun we know it by heart
I gave this book to my nephew when he was about 1, and he learned every word by the time he was 2. His Mom and Dad have a fun cadence when they read/sing it to him, and they are hooked, too. He loves it!

Silly Sally
I adore this book. It makes me feel the giddy freedom that every child deserves to know. My son loves this book and his interaction with the story has evolved over time. He went from listening to finishing the lines himself to reciting the story by rote! He turns the book around, anticipates the meeting of the characters along the path, and gives me a smile that fills my heart with joy.

You Don't Have to Live With Cystitis

An empowering book for anyone with bladder problems!
As a medical student with bladder symptoms suggestive of interstitial cystitis, finding Dr. Gillespie's book was the best thing that has happened to me in the three years since i've had my symptoms! The information is accurate, up to date, and truly empowers patients with chronic illnesses to take control of their lives and break the vicious cycles of bladder problems that control so many women's lives. I use this book as a resource and guide book to living well with my disease and am now starting to employ her techniques with the help of my personal doctor who also praises her book for its accurate, common-sense, up to the minute information. The answers i could not find anywhere else are in this book. Reading it has changed my life!

An outstanding book based on medical studies and research!
I am the medical author of a book on kidney stones. Often, patients with cystitis can end up with struvite (or infection) kidney stones from frequent bladder infections resulting in kidney infections. These types of kidney stones have caused patients to die! Struvite stones can fill the entire kidney cavity. Dr. Larrian Gillespie's book is The #1 Resource for Women who want a better quality of life...and who want to separate fact from myth. If you are serious about preventing the continuation of this painful condition, then this book is for you! Dr. Gillespie is an outspoken advocate on women's health issues. Her understanding of the way women's bodies function, and the relationship of disease to nutrition makes this book a important addition to the intelligent woman's home library bookshelf. Also highly recommended for cnsumer medical libraries. I found the chapters and information on an anti-cystitis diet, an explanation of how anti-oxidants can help and a special chapter on how antibiotic treatment can affect your hormones outstanding. The book is also useful for understanding cystitis in children, during pregnancy and menopause. Dr. Gillespie's compassion for women, her wonderful sense of humor, and ability to teach patients in consumer-friendly language (not Dr. Speak!) make this THE book on cystitis!

Excellent self-help resource for suffers of bladder woes.
While I would not seek out Dr. Gillespie as my physician, having read the previous review, I still think this book is invaluable. So, find a competant physician specializing in female urinary problems and schedule the appointment, but go ahead and buy this book while you are waiting. Its explanation of normal and abnormal bladder function, explanation of various treatment/diagnostic options -- some horrible ones I wish I had refused, and some fabulous ones I would never had known to ask for had I not read this book -- and its discussion of foods and beverages that can lead to pain make this book invaluable. Its instructions on what to do with baking soda were well worth many times the price. If you get repeated UTI's or have chronic IC... you need to own this book.

Don't Go Europe!

Author: Chris Harris
Amazon base price: $12.95
Used price: $12.00

Great fun!!!
Anyone who's ever traveled to\through Europe will find humor in this book. Doubly blessed are those who have read any of the popular "Let's Go" travel books -- the style of which is skillfully parodied by "Don't Go Europe". The only reason I wouldn't give this a 10 is because you need the experience of having been there to fully appreciate some of the humor

The author starts out by giving the readers tips on "Not Getting There." However, should all your attempts to do this fail and you find yourslf in a European town, the Authors then point out the funniest aspects of all the most traveled to European Countries so that at least you can have a good time while you're there.

But even if you're not heading there at all, this book is pure fun to read. It's an absolute MUST-READ for those Americans who have been to Europe, or who have ever read a travel guide in the hopes of putting it to good use eventually.

A must-read for "Let's Go" survivors
Anyone who has lived and died by "Let's Go: Europe" will love this book! As much fun as Europe is, Chris Harris hits all its little idiosyncracies and nuances (including those of the Ugly American Tourist) right on the mark. You'll laugh hard and remember all the fun you had over there. IF you haven't gone to Europe, well, let's just say this book is full of location jokes. You have to be there to really appreciate it.

Just don't go!
I have read this book over and over again, it's the most funny book that I have laid my eyes upon. Anyone from Europe should read this book because it'll make you laugh more than you ever have before. Anyone from the USA should read this book because it'll make you laugh more than you ever have before...

Yes, it's suitable for everyone! Even Canadians.
