In Search of the key to unlock the Hidden Hearts
Cannibalism among the Sawi Tribes of Irian Jaya, (formerly Netherlands New Guinea), was not necessarily survival, but the way of life, in which they used humans as prizes to demonstrate their arrogance, pride and strength. Civilized or uncivilized, there is one common ground in all people, all nations, which is the struggle for peace throughout the centuries. Yet the Sawi people were difficult, perhaps so stubborn, there are no other words in the English language to describe them other than accepting their primitiveness engrained by subliminal psyche. However, the husband and wife missionary team, Don and Carol Richardson without a doubt, understood this challenge. The Apostle Paul who brought the gospel to Europe, his account with the Greek Stoic and Epicurean philosophers in the Aeropagus in Mars Hill, Athens, applied "cross-cultural" approach in lieu of criticizing their pagan beliefs (the common mistake of the west) bearing the inscription of their "unknown" god (Acts 17, New Testament). The Apostle finding a parallel thereby used it as opportunity to present the gospel message to these Greek philosophers. The question among the Sawis that challenged them was likened to a hidden key? However, they too discovered a parallel like that of the Apostle, which provided them with the right approach and the right attitude. Through patience and perseverance, somewhere in the thick of the woods they unlocked its secret code, that breakthrough, in which they discovered within the hearts of the people. Trusting in a "temporary" child that never brought forth peace among the Sawi villages, not only the people discovered that peace was possible, they also discovered the "everlasting, eternal" child that brought them not temporary peace, but everlasting peace.

Gripping true story, spellbinding page-turner
Talk about living on the edge, Don Richardson, his newlywed wife Carol and seven-month old son Stephen step from the 20th century into a stone-age cannabilistic cultural with gruesome and horrific practices. This book reads like the true adventure it is, starting with the narration of life, death, betrayal, parties where the honored guests become the special of the day. Enter this family of three into the midst of suspicious cannibals bringing three rival factions together each vying jealously for the knifes, steel axes, matches, machetes, mirrors and medicine, you get a powder keg with small to large explosions daily. Imagine living in a grass hut with your wife and baby huddled inside while fierce warriors and arrows fly throughout the sky. Imagine facing an entire clan beating and burning a man that the sorceress has declared to be a soul-less zombie and praying him back to life, only by a miracle of God. These and other adventures show what it's really like to walk by faith, trusting only God to protect you, and doing His will to win people to Christ. There are many hair-prickling turns in this story, leaving you at the edge of your seat, wondering if it'll all end in disaster. But the glory of the Lord is that He had left Himself a witness in the strange custom of the "Peace Child" that Richardson was able to use to point to the Perfect Peace Child, the Son of God, Prince of Peace, to bring the Sawi tribe to a knowledge of Jesus Christ. Truly awe inspiring. I am now reading the sequel "Lords of the Earth".

A thrilling story from stone age New Guinea
I have had the good fortune of reading this book (twice), seeing the film, and hearing Don Richardson in person tell this story, and have been thrilled by each vehicle of communication (though I think Richardson's personal telling probably the most vivid.) The Sawi of New Guinea were a people still living at a stone age level when Richardson and his family went to live with them in the early 1960s, and their bizarre cultural customs make for fascinating reading. Their most developed form of treachery was betrayal, to 'fatten an enemy with friendship' before murderously turning on them. When Richardson told the Sawi the story of Christ's life, the real hero to emerge was Judas Iscariot, who had betrayed his close friend. Things changed among the Sawi when Richardson found how they stopped their wars through the means of a Peace Child, exchanged between warring tribes for adoption and peace. Read this fascinating account of what happened next.

Lovely book!
The Diaries of Adam and Eve is one of my favorite books. It's so gentle, funny, and deeply true I find myself loaning it to friends and giving it as a gift whenever I can. If you've not read Twain since Huckleberry Finn was forced upon you in junior high, this is a wonderful way to start reading Mark Twain's work again. If you've been looking for something to restore your faith in the worth of that whole man-woman thing, treat yourself to this book.

This recording is a real delight!
"The Diaries of Adam and Eve" is a sweet, humorous and romantic piece and it had me laughing out loud one minute.......and crying the next. Mandy Patinkin and Betty Buckley are outstanding in their "reading" of Twain's words; actually, it's more a theatrical performance than a simple reading. Their expressive voices give life to Adam and Eve and provide us with complex characters full of wonder, innocence, wisdom, joy, and sorrow. There are so many wonderful passages throughout this book that I find something new to marvel at each time I listen. This recording will touch your heart.

A loving good heart
Twain long had an interest in Adam and Eve. His renewed focus on Adam and Eve in 1893 was touched off by his writing calendar maxims for Pudd'nhead Wilson, in which the Edenic couple appear. After that novel, he began Extracts from Adam's Diary, and followed that with Eve's Diary. Now Don E. Roberts has collected these writings along with four others by Twain that concern the Edenic pair in one narrative. For many readers familiar only with Twain's tales about mischievous boys or cranky characters, this work, one of the great love stories of all time, will come as a real surprise. Whether you're interested in Twain or not, if your heart hasn't atrophied, you will love The Diaries of Adam and Eve. Roberts's profound love of the art of the book is evident in every detail, from the illustrated dust jacket, which features a rare 1902 Thomas Marr photograph of Twain at Quarry Farm on the back; to the Smythe sewn binding in gold-stamped Kennett cloth; to the high-quality printing on acid-free paper; to the eight beautiful illustrations commissioned specifically for this volume. I have the book and the CD. If you are just going to get one I would suggest the CD because of Betty Buckley's superb performance reading Eve's part. Twain translated Eve as saying "a loving good heart is riches, and riches enough". After reading this fine volume I'm inclined to agree with her.

Hush Little Baby, Don't You Cry
Man, I really enjoyed reading this book. It was given to me as a gift. I set it aside for the summer and finally got around to reading it. I wish now that I'd read it sooner. I recommend this book to anyone who loves an "on the edge" suspense story. From word one, I absolutely couldn't put the book down. I'd been warned it was that kind of story by several who'd read it before me. What struck me was how CLEAN cut it's written. Pfeifer you're a master! I appreciate the non-wordy, non-over discriptive, right to the point style of writing you have. That was refreshing. For me, the suspense was razor sharp as I raced through the chapters piecing together clues. The ending was perfect! My book is gone now... It's being passed from person to person at the office. Hurry up! We're looking forward to your next one.

Couldn't put it down!
This is a great book that keeps you reading. My mom loaned it to me and I finished reading it in 24 hours! I usually don't read suspence books but this story is told so very well. I love the way it ends! I will recommend to all of my friends!

If you love suspense novels... You will want to read this!
I just finished reading Hush Little Baby, Don't You Cry, and I thought it was great! It is one of the best suspense stories that I have read in a long time. The book is full of strange twists, and will keep you guessing until the end. If you have been searching for a good suspense novel to read, you owe it to yourself to check this one out! You will be glad you did!

A Laboratory Superintendent's Comments
C B Don's highly amusing and wry insight into the stresses and strains of laboratory and business life is strongly recommended for anyone who has experience of either. And absolutely essential to anyone with both!

Expressed in an enjoyable and easy-read style, the various characters which colour The Company with their devious ploys, underhand tactics, greed and bungling incompetence provide the reader with a verbal picture which is larger than life.

Thinking back on the last thirty years I have spent in laboratories, there is not one situation I have experienced which has not been highlighted in this book. Each has been closely scrutinised, squeezed for the last exquisite drop of human nature, embellished with wonderful characters with outrageous names such as Loyola Fraise and V P Barron, and delivered back in such a witty style that the frustration of life's experiences are forgotten in waves of humour.

But there is a moral to every good tale; behind the fun is a message that those in positions of responsibility would do well to heed and those in lesser roles might use to prepare themselves better for the trials of life.

The "Parkinson's Law" of the High-Tech World !
As "Parkinson's Law" (by C.Northcote Parkinson, 1958)addressed the malpractices inherent in big business and government administration, so "Management by Vice", with like wit and satirical humor, exposes the managerial "vices" of the science/management world of high-tech Research and Development. The book is superbly written, the characters made me laugh out loud and the pointed message in the verses and the corresponding illustrations, make this book a must-read for anyone in management,R&D research staff or any other workplace. Very well done!

Empowering Our Young Women
The book is focused on young women, however, more mature ones will also find it beneficial. The title is excellent, because the book is concerned about self and what one should keep. It is written in a workbook format that can be read in a short period of time. However, the thought provoking questions and exercises, take some time and allows one to view her life as is and how she would like it to be. The self-affirmations are excellent, because many people do not know what or how to say them. The survival kits provide good practical ideas of what a person should do if she is going through a bad time or has negative feelings. The inserted graphics, developed for the young person, with or without text are colorful and interesting . Vanzant also makes several interesting points about the role the Creator should play in a young woman's life. I feel that the book is valuable for any woman. I read it and then passed on to my God Child who is fifteen!

A must buy!
*****I can think of no better word to describe this book than "neat." I picked up "Don't Give It Away" at the airport because the cover caught my eye. Don't be fooled! Though it looks as though it is a book for teens, at age 31, I couldn't put it down. Since then, I've bought four additional copies to give to all the teen girls I know and love. This book is an incredible tool for all women, regardless of age. However, if you are not interested in getting to know yourself don't buy the book.

Unexpected
When my mother gave me this book, she and I were going through a very devastating time. I had just graduated from high school, and we had just found out that my dad had been having an affair for a long time, and that he was leaving. My mom gave me this book so that I might become a stronger black woman than she had, and so that I wouldn't let people walk over me like my father had walked over her. Even though the book was made for younger girls, it gave me a chance to be innocent again and do self-evaluation that I should have done a long time ago. I recommed this book for anyone who needs an ego boost. I also recommend this book to young black girls who may not yet have identified with how beautiful they really are.

Humorous lessons in tolerance
I first read Don Camilo when I was 13. The thing that I have always liked the most about this book is its central lesson: it is possible to fight about ideologies, but when the community is in danger, we must forget the fight and help our neighbors. We'll continue the fuss later. Episode after episode, Don Camilo, the local priest, and Peppone, the communist mayor, confront each other, sometimes in a serious and violent way. But every time, both men negotiate their way out of trouble. That is a related lesson: public enemies / private friends. When you finish the book, indeed, you get a feeling that these two enemies and rivals have developed, over the years and innumerable shared experiences, a friendship that is deeper than most people's relationships. I like very much the parts when, in the midst of a crisis, Peppone and Don Camilo run secret negotiations in the middle of the night. But if you think this is a "rosy" book, full of childish situations, you are wrong. The problems that both characters have to solve are often deep and painful. This is the best kind of educational book, because it does not really have a "moral". The intelligent reader -and most children are- gets his own conclusions in a funny and humorous way. Those are the lessons likely to stay for life. A lovely book.

A realistic portrayal of life in Italy, then and now.
Between the laughter of my children and their Nona, I caught parts of the conversation that they were enjoying. I thought their Nona was telling stories of the six months that she had spent in Italy. My youngest child was holding a book. This was not unusual for him being an avid reader. It turned out that he had been sharing The Little World of Don Camillo. I had read the series many years ago. The Nona was adding the incidences that she witnessed in Italy. We have shared this book with many people, it has been a great conversation piece. It relates the encounters of culture and religion reaching back to ancient times. Many of the superstitions of Italy come from long ago. Enjoy, but mostly laugh your way to a facinating cultural education.

Warm and human
Guareschi's books should rank among the classics of Italian literature and ought to be read at school, but they are not. Why? Who knows.... Maybe because the so-called Italian intellectuals think that comic stuff isn't deep enough. Anyway, don Camillo, Peppone and his comrades are the most loved characters in Italian fiction and their stories are real masterpieces. A must read both for the old and the young. You'll love Guareschi!

good but upsetting to me later in life
I read this book as a child and liked it a lot; I still think it's an entertaining story with beautiful pictures. However, it is one of many stories about a witch, in this case a devalued version of the ancient Greek goddess Hecate. This just saddens me a bit because children tend to be exposed to few stories about positive interpretations of ancient goddesses from the before-Christ era, so I recommend that parents look into providing a more balanced repertoire.

Fantastic Read aloud book. Kids love it!!!!
A fantastic enchanting read aloud book. The story is about a
determined mother who outsmarts a witch who has
captured and bewitched her seven children. The
children's mother is the only one who break the
spell of the witch.Other related books are: The
Pumpkinville Mystery, by Bruce Cole; Scary Stories
to tell in the dark, by Alvin Schwartz.

My favorite children's book ever!!
This is a wonderful, beautifully illustrated book that has delighted me for ages! The story is about a mother and her seven children (each named for a day of the week) and the witch Heggedy Peg. On the day the mother goes out she asks the children what they want; she then leaves warning not to admit or give light to anyone. While she is gone Heggedy Peg comes and tricks the children into giving her a light for her pipe - and she turns them all into food. It is then up to their mother to turn them back into humans by naming each dish the right child. The pictures in this book are absolutely charming! Definitely worth buying!

Boys have to become Men JB Cleveland
You are 17, 18, 19 years old. What do you want to do with your life? How about go and fight a war in Viet Nam! Charlie Rangers will tell you what it was like. This is a must read book for those who were fortunate enough to avoid the draft. See what it was like for these boys to have to grow up to be men in a hurry. These men should be applauded for putting their lives on the line for our country, especially at such a young age.

This book is fantastic!
I read every book that I can get my hands on, and the books I enjoy most are about small unit actions written by participants in said actions. This is by far the best of those I've read. The authors use a conversational style that gives the impression that you are actually there with them. This is one of the few books that centers on six-man "Hunter-Killer Teams", not just the recon aspects of Rangers. I am also proud of a country that produces men like this...

The best book to hit the shelves
I am the daughter of John Rotundo, the author of Charlie Rangers. I read his book when it first came out a few years ago. I thought it was great then and still do to this day. I know when my dad wrote this book, he put his heart and soul into reliving his experiences in Vietnam so that he could share that with others. My father is very proud of his book as I am of him.

Office Politics : The Women's Guide to Beat the System and Gain Financial Success
Published in Hardcover by Steel Balls Pr (1994)
Authors: R. Don Steele and Mary Thomas
Amazon base price: $22.95
Average review score:

Office wisdom
How many books tell the (and sometimes disgusting) truth about how the world really works? Well, at least one does, Office Politics by R Don Steele.
Expect no encouraging words or quick fixes, but a lot of work and thinking on YOUR side. Steele guides you in the process of becoming successful at the corporation (and even at life, too) through his well organized and entertaining book. His style is direct and harsh, and besides it's directed to women it works for men too (at least a 90%).

The book is about americans corporations, so readers from other cultures might find that some parts doesn't apply to their own situation (even in case of working for american companies located outside US), but anyway, a large part still holds.
As a plus, you can call the author regarding these matters to his own web radio show at live 365.

You MUST have this if you work in an office.
If I had this book when I was starting out, it would have saved me a huge amount of difficulty in advancing my career. While this book is written for women, the vast majority of the material applies to men as well. Why go through the school of hard knocks when you don't have to? That's what Steele does for you with this book. Like all of Steele's books, it will open your eyes to the way the world really works and your life will never be the same.

Not just for Women
Whether you are a man or a woman, if you're in the corporate world or work in an office, this is an essential book to own. It will revolutionize your earning potential. It covers all aspects of the work experience from interviewing to getting a raise to leaving successfully. His advice about how often you should switch jobs is wroth the price of the book, easily.

R. Don Steele's blunt language is a rare find in today's world, and his straightforwardness helps convey his messages. If you read this book carefully, you'll realize he truly cares about telling you everything he knows about the subject. He is clearly passionate about educating his readers, and his language and thoroughness show that.

I truly wish I had read this book before I had graduated college. I'm lucky I found it during my second job.

Incredible--- A must for any animal lover or student.
This book is unbelievable from cover to cover. It's both a spectacular learning tool and a book that you'll keep forever and always refer to. It's been extremely helpful to me already as I continue through school toward a job working with animals and docenting at the zoo, and it would be equally as helpful to anyone of any age who shares this interest. The pictures are real and breathtakingly beautiful, and the book's organization couldn't be any easier or more perfect. I highly recommend this book as a reference or simply as a good read, because it is just as interesting and helpful either way. Animal is now the most beautiful book I own, and packed with interesting and vital information.

Magnificent piece of work!!
A beautiful visual book. The photography is captivating to say the least, the text though short is very informative , the layout is something else and very well designed : easy access to general information. Some have objected to the fact that there is no mention of the human species; to those I say that the book's cover does say: The definitive visual guide to the world's WILDLIFE. I do admit that since invertebrates form 97% of all the known animal species, the chapter concerning them was a bit lacking and too short. One may not find enough research material for any specific animal, but nevertheless it is nothing short of stunning, it's the kind of book the whole family will enjoy and every household should have.

If you are wild about animals, this is your book!
This book arrives in a cardboard box type cover to protect your investment.

Once you open up the box, you will find one of the most beautiful books on animals you have ever seen. Not only is the photography superb, the details are fascinating. The contents are divided into eight sections:

Introduction, Habitats, Mammals, Birds, Reptiles, Amphibians, Fishes and Invertebrates. An Index helps you find the animal you are looking up super fast.

As a reference, this is outstanding, clear, comprehensive and thought-provoking. If you are a wildlife enthusiast, you will enjoy the photographic portraits of each animal. Each species profile is supported by symbols showing habitat, size, population and conservation status.

An introduction to the animal world helps to explain classification. The animal groups are listed and there are four pages to summarize the classification scheme used in this book.

The Habitats section is especially interesting as it describes how animals survive in grasslands, deserts, tropical forests, temperate forests, coniferous forests, mountains, polar regions, freshwater, oceans, coral reefs and even urban areas. Each page shows the habitat and then pictures of the animals living there.

The rest of the book is set up in a similar way for each section. First there is an introduction for the CLASS (Mammalia, etc) and then there is a introduction for each ORDER (Marsupialia). Then the families and species with detailed information. There is a map next to each animal picture showing where they live, their social unit, status, length, weight and pertinent information.

The Glossary helps to explain terms like species: a group of similar organisms that are capable of interbreeding in the wild and of producing offspring that resemble themselves.

The section on cats was especially beautiful, however in reality, cats really need their own book. >^..^<

This book is just gorgeous!
