Silcon Valley 101
Corporate culture and life in Silicon Valley are uniquely captured as the story unfolds. Murder.com is a high-tech mystery, full of characters you'll swear you know! The fast paced 'who dunnit' will keep you guessing throughout the book. With each new character, you'll find yourself exploring possible motives. Just when you think you know 'who dunnit', the story reveals yet another lead. Those familiar with Silicon Valley will enjoy the authors' inclusion of its colorful history. It's a thought provoking, fun read. I thoroughly enjoyed Murder.com, and hope that Rand Newman considers writing a sequel.

A great supense high tech thriller!!
This murder mystery kept us guessing up till the last page. Well written book that explains how people really do operate in the fast paced Silicon Valley. I guarantee you won't be disappointed!

Close to Reality
The author does a great job of articulating many of the realities of today's high-tech business environment. It explores some of the ethical dilemmas faced by company executives, and their rationale for sometimes choosing a less ethical path. In the end it all comes down to one thing - the money.

The characters involved and pace of the book are right on target. It's a good, quick read.

A thoughtful modern-day parable of inspiration
Brooke Newman's The Little Tern: A Story Of Insight is a thoughtful modern-day parable of inspiration, suitable for readers of all ages and faiths. When a tern loses the ability to fly, he fears that he has lost all that is important and central to his life... but then he makes new friends who bring him to a fresh and self-renewing perspective. Soft, watercolor-style illustrations by Lisa Mann Dirkes add a pervasive and gentle beauty to this heartfelt tale. Enthusiastically recommended for personal reading or as a fine giftbook for a friend or loved one, The Little Tern is a truly memorable and touching story.

Inspirational
I found the Little Tern both moving and inspirational. A welcomed piece of wisdom to all of us during these difficult times. The writing and illustrations work brilliantly together to create a memorable journey for the reader. A book not to be missed!

Timely Book
This book is so timely. I thought it was great. I gave it to a couple of friends and I think that everyone should read it.

Wow.
This is one of my favorite poetry collections. Oh, how much love, passion, laughter and tears are within these pages. I read it, front to back, in a day. I couln't put it down. What wonderful words to read and inspire a heart with love.

A feast of poetry and passion
An outstanding anthology of poetry from some incredible writers who compose with both skill and
passion. Renditions of moments of love, disappointment, yearning, and frustration with those
inevitable irritations we all run into occasionally.

"In Praise" is spectacular. I laughed out loud reading "AT&T," dedicated to all those couples in
long-distance relationships-- who among us hasnt had to deal with that on occasion? "Undertow"
was so riveting you could feel the impact from the language, and it has a unique verse structure to
boot. "He Na Tye Woman" practically needed musical accompaniment. But my fave has to be
Cookery. Any of you who love making up recipes and cooking up surprises for your lover will
absolutely relish this one-- a must-read! I started buying the ingredients for the "chunks of red
pepper," "herbal cream sauce," "coriander flecked carrots," etc. the moment after reading this
poem. I promise this collection will have leave quite an impression on you.

Incredibly Powerful, One of the best anthologies
I love poetry and this is one of the best anthologies I have ever read. The poems are moving, sensual beyond description, earthy, humorous, sexy, and very intense. It seems that women writing about other women convey a depth and beauty that I have not often found in heterosexual poetry. Highly recommended for anyone who loves great poetry.

Another wonderful addition to the series
Newman just kepts improving with age. How she manages to come up with all these new settings, people, and situations is beyond me. Each book can stand on it's own, but I'm happy to have read them all in order to allow me to see how each character in the story has changed and matured.
I hope this series never ends!

Dead of Knight
I couldn't wait for this latest installment of Sharan Newman's series featuring the clever and clumsy Catherine and her stalwart spouse Edgar, set in the 1140's, this time back in Paris. Just as with her previous novels, I was more than satisfied. I discovered Catherine and Edgar in "Cursed in the Blood" just after our return from Scotland and the north of England this summer, visiting castles of our ancestors dating from the 11th and 12th centuries, primarily. Newman has such a thorough grounding in the history of the time and yet she has the ability to bring her characters to life. I raced through all of her previous novels in the series, except for the next to last one--on order!--just prior to this one, "To Wear the White Cloak". In this latest story, Catherine and Edgar were shocked upon their return from what seems to have been a dangerous and difficult journey to Germany to find a very dead (and moldy!) Knight of the Temple locked inside her father's home. The well-educated twosome have to counter the suspicion that quickly falls on their family, as before, by solving the murder themselves. This is accomplished while they deal with the everyday issues of raising their family in health and safety, establishing themselves financially, and even struggling with moral issue of birth control. You will do yourself a favor if you begin reading Newman's books--go back and read the others--if you have an appreciation for this time period and for an excellent mystery. (Note to fans of Ellis Peters: finally, someone to (almost) fill her shoes)

To Wear The White Cloak
Paris in 1147 is pure mayhem. Men leaving for the holy land have converged on the city, bringing with them vagabonds and conmen smelling opportunities to gull and steal. There is also evidence that the doomsday cult, the eonisits, has arrived. Starvation seems to be rampant, and a group of ruffians is attacking the Jews. All in all not the homecoming that Catherine had hoped for!

Catherine, Edgar and family have finally made it home from Germany. However upon entering their house, they find the dead and festering body of a man garbed as one of the Templars. Catherine and Edgar naturally report this finding to the Marshall of the Knight Templars; and so it is with great outrage that they discover that they are somehow under suspicion for either knowing who committed the murder, or else witholding some vital clue of the crime. Catherine resolves to solve the mystery. However other matters keep getting in the way. She has to deal with the unsettling relationship that seems to be growing between her Jewish cousin Solomon, and Edgar's sister, Margaret; someone keeps trying to break into their house; and to cap it all, Jehan, that somewhat mad and vengeful knight from previous novels, has returned and is causing all kinds of problems by spreading rumours about Catherine and her family's involvement with witchcraft and lapsed Judaism. Too many things are getting in the way of solving the mystery of the dead Templar!

This series keeps getting better and better. The historical detail is wonderful, and the plot, while a seemingly simple one is padded with enough sub-plots to keep the reader's interest. A truly enjoyable read!

When Everybody Cares: Case Studies of ABA with People with Autism
Published in Paperback by Dove and Orca (01 August, 1999)

I love this book!
For anyone whose life is touched by autism: this is a wonderful book, especially if you are new to the world of Applied Behavior Analysis. The stories are about real people-- children and adults whose quality of life was improved through behavioral intervention. And while each chapter is used to clearly illustrate a principle of the science of human behavior or a particular type of procedure for changing behavior, what you will remember most are the stories-- touching, inspirational, and often very funny. I loan this book out more than any other ; )

If Autism is in your life, read this book!
"When Everybody Cares" should be read by anyone involved in teaching and treating children with Autism who are utilizing Applied Behavior Analysis, or even to help educate and advocate what ABA can do for the Autistic population. As a mother of a child with Autism, everything can be extremely challenging . Eating, self help skills, sleeping, speaking, social interactions, self stimulatory behaviors, perseveration, inappropriate behaviors, playing, learning--these are all skills and behaviors that will require at one time or another some sort of treatment plan. Treatment plans to increase or decrease a behavior can be very intimidating. Are you doing anything at all, is all this effort really working? are we wasting our time? Is he REALLY capable? When Everybody Cares puts that anxiety to rest by leading the reader through many real life examples of successfull intervention ultimately bettering the lives for all involved and most importantly the health, happiness, and dignity of the individuals who suffer from Autism. "When Everybody Cares" has inspired me tremendously!

Thank you for caring..
Bravo! An easy read, packed with behavioral information as well as delightful humor. Not too many people dare or can combine the two in such an eloquent way..
As a parent, who has a behavior analytic program in place as my child's intervention, I find Dr Newmans style in writing as a breath of fresh air. He NEVER lessens the severness of our children's disability ,nor strays away from the analytic principles of ABA, AND you STILL manage to crack a MUCH needed smile while turning these pages..I found this to be a welcomed addition to my "Autism Library".. It is full of "real life accounts" that shine through in their authenticity. As well as the genuine brilliance Dr Newman obviously has in the SCIENCE and in applying it with our children. Only one who can write and apply the science in such a "natural feeling way", must be one who this all comes second nature too.. I thank Dr Newman and those like him, who have dedicated their lives to this science and applying it effectively to our children. My child has made tremndous gains with this way of life, ABA as we call it..
He is more self sufficient, more communicative and more appropriate.. but most importantly He IS Happier.... He is finally able to commune with us in our daily everyday activites and though still has a ways to go to .. I am confident that he will continue to flourish and ultimatley be the VERY BEST he is capable of being. thanks to the families who allowed Dr NEwman to share your stories, and thank you Dr Newman for putting your passion in writing.
My regards Nicole Dibra...

Excellent, comprhensive, birth to grave guidebook for women
As a physician who takes care of many female patients, I have been delighted with the practical and accurate information provided in this book. I am routinely recommending it to all of my patients and have purchased copies of it for my own family members. This is a must read for any woman who is concerned about her health and well being. I give this one 5 stars without hesitation.

Top review from the Library Journal.
From Library Journal: Obstetricians/gynecologists in private practice, Newman and Stevens have collaborated with five other physician specialists to produce this book on women's health. Written in a clear and conversational style, it explains how women can maintain good physical and mental health through life. The first part, which focuses on gynecological health from adolescence to menopause, treats topics like dating, marriage, motherhood, weight control, sexually transmitted diseases (STD), cancer prevention, menopause, and incontinence, with a balanced emphasis on clinical and psychological issues. Part 2, on obstetrics, guides women from the pre-pregnancy test through the three trimesters to labor and delivery. Additional resources are listed after each chapter, with recommended books, organizations, and Internet sites all included. Aiming to better educate women and give them the confidence to manage changes and stresses, this guide is a useful supplement to such women's health classics as Our Bodies, Ourselves. For larger public libraries and hospital patient education collections.Lily Liu, Arkansas Children's Hosp. Lib., Little Rock

A really helpful resource!
This book provides a wealth of helpful information in a format that's really reader-friendly. Its topics are relevant to women in every stage of life. With so much mis-information out there, it's great to have a resource you can trust!

He's Even Better in Person
The only thing more exciting than reading Worldwalk is hearing Steve talk about it in person. He is so genuine and unpretentious that he makes you feel like he would love to have you along on his next adventure. One of the most striking things he tells you is that he took no special medications or had any additional immunizations before he left. In most cases he gratefully partook of the food and drink offered him. His conclusion, that he found the world to be an essentially loving place has stayed with me in the ten years since I first read the book. It is a spiritual journal of the best kind: he shows you his personal growth, he doesn't preach it. Steve is a true hero and should be more widely known and read. I'd love to know wht he's doing today.

Worldwalk is a must read for serious walkers
This delightful book is a diary of the author's journey around the world on foot. It details the countries he visited, the people he met along the way, and the dangers and problems he faced. This book is a must read for all serious walkers and world travelers.

Stephen M. Newman
Stephen M. Newman, a 6'2" 28 year old journalist decided to walk around the world with his giant backpack clinger, living only on hospitality, to see if the world is really still a good place. The fact that this is a real story, a real account makes the most impact on me. In the ancient days, people made pilgrimages, holy quests and this is what his story was of, a modern pilgrimage. He comes across as optimistic and faces the world with a sense of humor even though some of the things he sees and the people he encounters are truly horrible. His optimism seems a little forced sometimes, a little overzealous, but maybe that was how he really felt. Anyways, I guess nobody likes a whiner, and who would really want to listen to him whine? During his whole voyage, there were a number of times that he did get lucky, and from his account, a lot of the people he met were friendly and kind and hospitable, and that has a lot to say about the world. So you should read this story, he points out some interesting socialogical standpoints about how people in other countries see Americans, and it makes you feel like being an american is something truly lucky to be. He was very brave, to do what he did. It probably was a lot harder than he made it sound. You can find Steve in the 1988 Guinness book of world records as the first person to walk around the world alone.

Wonderful
This wonderful book is true to its name. I have taught my horse such highly advanced skills as rearing up on command and spitting. Getting creative, I tried this training method on the neighbor's girl that I baby sit. Highly effective. I am very pleased.

Great Book for a Basic Lessons in Operant Conditioning
If you have had no experience with 'clicker training' this book is an excellent source of basic information, giving both theory and many step by step instuctions for lessons. Covers basic lessons in manners such as saddling, trailer loading, giving confidence to nervous horses, picking up feet etc., as well as lessons in lunging, first riding, jumping and more. Relies heavily on target training (which is probably why their method is called "ON TARGET TRAINING")

Excellent ideas conveyed easily in this book.
I found this book to be very easy to read and informative. It reinforced my ideas. The book made a great deal of sense that anybody can agree with.

This was a great book.
I think that this book was a good introduction to children starting to read the Sherlock Holmes mysteries. It showed how he thought, and was a good children's book.

I love good books
I really love good books, especially mysteries. My favorite male characters are Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poiroit, Brother Cadfael, and, of course, Andrew Craigie/Tillet. Even an adult can read this book and enjoy it. I'd recommend it to anyone, since it's clean, well-written and interesting. Use the little gray-cells, read this book.

The Perfect Mystery!!!
I love this book! It's perfect for smart 10-11 yearolds-that's when I read it. It's a good beginner Sherlock Holmes, but not like a "My First Sherlock Holmes" book. THIS IS A GREAT BOOK! Andrew Craigie thinks somthing's up when he discovers that his gaurdian is kidnapped. Then someone attempts to kidnapp him! THe case then goes to the great Sherlock Holmes! Take my word for it, this is a great book.
