The must have barnet newman book
i didnt know anything about barnet newman before i got this book, now he is one of my favorite artist. this isnt a picture book, in fact there are almost no pictures of actual art works. this book is a collection of barnet newmans life long obsession with writting. he wrote letters and essays to everybody and about everything. from newspaper editors to gallery owners barnet newman wasnt afaraid to let people know what he thought, and he does it in a very informative and entertaining way. he was a very good writer. so mu suggestion is, if you want to learn about barnet newman the man, the writer, the artist, then get this book.

Basic Pharmacology
"Basic Pharmacology" is a godsend to the the pharmacy technician student and classroom. I find this book to be exceptionally well written in an easy-to-understand format. This format unlike other text books allows the student to visualize medications (photograph) which is not found in other text books of this type. The information provided is the best that I have ever read in a pharmacology book. I think that not only will individuals benefit, college programs will charish this text also.

Evokes a sense of North America's (recently) lost Serengeti
Kurten at al have described the wonderful variety of large mammals that lived in North America for millions of years, until as recently as 13,000 years ago. Saber- and scimitar-toothed cats, camels, sloths, mastodons, lions, cheetahs and other animals combined to make North America a teeming home to large game more diverse than Africa now has. Many fine illustrations accompany the text.
The book is well-written, easily accessible to the interested lay person and does not require college level understanding of morphological bone analysis. Having been to southern Africa in 1997, I now cannot drive or hike through rural North America without imaging mammoths, tapirs, bear-sized beavers, one-ton running bears, and glyptodonts coming to the watering holes and browsing and grazing their way across the landscape.
For a comprehensive college-level treatment, see "Quaternary Extinctions," Paul Martin and Richard Klein, editors.

Positive Children's Book About Accepting Body Image
BELINDA'S BOUQUET by Leslea Newman is a story of how a young girl named Belinda is teased for having gained weight. She and Daniel, both about ten years old, discover with the help of one of Daniel's mothers and a garden cared for by his other mother that people, like flowers, are different. All people have special needs which make each one quite beautiful and unique. Belinda comes to realize that her body belongs to her and that it is okay to look and be different from others. Although the focus of this story is Belinda's growing understanding of the beauty of differences (some people are short, some of us are tall, some are dark, some are light, some are fat and some are thin), other messages are communicated as well. The author has addressed sex-role stereotypes when Daniel describes some of the things they both enjoy doing, such as playing dress-up, hide-and-seek, playing catch and riding their bikes. Other messages communicated are: Daniel lives with two mothers; the importance of nutrition and growth; one's body, even those of children, are private and that it is unjust for adults to tease children because of their differences.
BELINDA'S BOUQUET is one of a few books which doesn't use the parents' sexual orientation as the focus of the story. So, the fact that Daniel lives with his two mothers, that no father figure is part of the family, and most importantly, that his family structure doesn't seem to pose a problem for him, his friends, his school or the driver of the bus who tells Belinda she has gotten fatter, is a genuine plus. The beautiful house and garden which belong to Daniel and his mothers will resonate most personally to the child who either has or lives in what many children refer to as the "country house."
BELINDA'S BOUQUET features color illustrations, is appropriate for children age three and older, and can assist adults who wish to discuss the various issues Newman raises in this book.

IMPRESSIVE AND COMPLEX JUVENILE FICTION
"The Boy Who Could Fly" is a remarkable work of juvenile fiction about a boy who has the telepathic ability to read minds. Narrated in the second person point of view by the boy's older brother, the book is compassionate and moving and psychologically complex and made all the more vivid by haunting and innovative charcoal illustrations by Paul Sagsoorian. The older brother's attempts to shelter his gifted younger brother after the death of their parents is the thrust of the plot which evolves into a mysterious and profound character study. First published in 1967 and long out of print, the book deserves to be recognized as a classic in the field of juvenile fiction. Its psychological themes are a great introduction to young readers to a more complex fiction, yet it can be read as a thoroughly engaging story in itself. The 1986 movie of the same name seems to be very loosely based on the story.

Pre-Enron Integrity
I loved this book because it had soul, heart and wisdom. Sam Bronfman was an immigrant that took advatage of what NA and in this case Canada had to offer. From selling frozen fish and firewood he "made" one of the largest corporations in the world and had fun doing it. "It's not the money, he said, it's the making of the money". The game, the fun. "The best thing ever invented is compound interest. You make money while you sleep".
It is great reading. Americans might have some problems with the British and Canadian references but ignore them or look up the appedndices that are quite complete. A throwback to the likes of Mellon, Carnegie and Heinz. When a deal was made by men that cared about other people.
