Great Gift for People You Hope Will Get the Hint
My sister (mother of 2) let me read hers. I thought it was so good I gave to a friend who has given it to others as birth gifts, etc. This book is so well written and important for society. Parents want to be their children's' friends and forget that their children need far more - guidance and lines. The anecdotes are entertaining and extremely insightful.

The Blood and Thunder Adventure on Hurricane Peak
When I was a little kid, this was my very favourite book!! Margaret Mahy is a very talented writer, and this book was great for me to read over and over again. I also liked the pirates mixed up voyage, it was another of the books written in Margaret Mahy's collection - with a very unique writing style. I was about 8 when I actually sent Margaret Mahy a fan letter!! I got a long (two pages on a typewriter!) letter back from her, with hand drawn (and coloured in) cats all over the border of the letter! This book is adventurous, fun and has a very twisted plot with talking cats and distant cousins, and a school of Magic!!! I suggest it for any one looking for a good read - so long as they haven't let go of their "INNER CHILD"!!!

Our first "favorite book"
A gift from my sister to my twins... from 9 months old they listened to every word - soon they knew it by heart! They learned how to "guess" and how to "tease" from this book. It's still a favorite, and they are almost 3.

A great introduction to Whiteley
Any book which attempts to analyse the art and the life of an artist of Whiteley's magnitude has to fall short. However, this book is a good attempt and has been written by two experts on the great man's work: his former wife Wendy and Barry Pearce, curator of the Art Gallery of NSW. It contains fairly good plates of some of the artist's best work, although much is of course missing. I'd recommend this along with the aritst's own catalogues as the best place to start in any attempt to understand the artist and his work.

A teenage story we can relate to!
I really enjoyed reading this interesting novel! Teenagers, such as myself, can realte to the teenage life displayed in this book. Its a story of friendship and the good and bad times through it. I really reccomend this book to any reader. It's also a perfect gift for someone who hates reading. This book will change their minds!

The book was informative as to the students point of view.
"Bright....and Behind" is a wonderful book to read WITH your learning disabled child. This book lets the child know that he/she is not alone in their struggle with a learning disability, that there ARE other children out there just like them. Children know that there are loving parents and teachers, but they need to be reassured that other kids understand what they are going through. The personal point of view this book takes helps both the child and the adult realize that perserverance can get them through. "Bright....and Behind" is also informative for the parents of learning disabled children because it gives them the chance to understand that even a caring, patient, loving parent (even with degrees in recreation and guidance and counseling) it can be extremely hard to deal with. In conclusion, this book is a extremely useful tool in deciphering the troubles of a learning disability.

Fascinating read, not only for academics!
Think you have learned all there is to know about the eugenics movement?
This book challenges the common wisdom that the eugenics movement fell apart when it was discredited by the horrors of Nazi Germany. Kline uses her meticulous research of original documents to map the path of the insidious belief of white upper-class Americans that the reproductive behavior of women of all classes must be controlled.
Don't know anything about eugenics?
If you are interested in learning about the roots of current hot topics such as the definition of "family values," sterilization of prisoners or the mentally ill, welfare programs for poor mothers, and the availability of quality affordable day care, this is the book for you!
The author writes in a way that is grounded in real life and understandable to the general reader, without simplifying the complex issues she addresses. Her use of fascinating case studies makes this book extremely readable at the same time that she makes important connections between race, class, sexuality, and reproduction. Everyone should read this book!

Buzz, the Little Seaplane
This book is the exact way Buster Bird did things in the Old Forge area of the Adirondack Mountains. What and excellent book for children. The illustrations are great and even look similar to Buster. What a great book. Thanks.

California, Here I come
In planning a family vacation to California, we found the book by Julie Douglas to be very informative and loads of fun for our children. We all learned a lot and had such fun doing it. Hope to see more books like this. Very creative activities!
